What it feels like to wear a Level IV bulletproof jacket

- in one sentence-- its like wearing a lead straightjacket! The Level IV bulletproof jacket is at the very top of the body armor specs prepared by the US National Institute of Justice (NIJ). The Indian Army and the Ministry of Home Affairs use the US NIJ certification while evaluating body armor. Its also called the NIJ Level IV BPJ and the ceramic panels are specifically designed to stop armor piercing rounds. The AP rounds from a 7.62x39 AK, INSAS 5.56X45 and 7.62x51mm sniper rifle rounds can shatter most commonly used NIJ Level III rifle plates. The Level IV affords multi-hit protection from most AP rounds and hence affords the highest level of protection but it imposes significant weight and mobility issues on the wearer and is hence an extremely rare bird. Ive been writing on security issues for a decade but this is the first Level IV I've seen.
I rather wear this, be uncomfortable than getting extra hole in my body in my vital areas.
Sonny Singh you’d be a walking corpse with this on, there should be a balance between weight and protection.
@@dotsanddash8083 I am not sure how much of experience you have of wearing vest. I dont see anything wrong with this vest.
@@sonnysingh4028 there's nothing wrong with it, it's a perfectly good BPJ, but it's too heavy and soldiers do not like to wear heavy BPJ as it adds on to their battle load.
The soldiers say that one of the benefits of retiring is...they no longer have to wear body armour.
Standard body armor used by US army is maximum 15 kg heavy. Indian army is one of the busiest army so government need to provide them best gear. soldiers in counter terrorism operations need these items direly, they face ap bullets whole year. Some time ago many defense websites reported that a professor in Kolkata design a light armor and defense ministry also noticed that but now there's no report about that .
thats the kind of youtube channel I was searching to see the indian army weapons....its great to see them in details
+100 Armour
-50 Speed
elder scrolls 🤣🤣
Great video...now one can understand how difficult it is protecting motherland..
But one thing which is surprising we are using ceramic plates...
If it is 20 kg heavy then it can't be used in infantry and counter terrorism & counter insurgencies teams in North East and j&k it will be hell of a mess for soldiers because they can't move fast and can't carry adequate ammunition.
Pushpendra Rai They do use LV4 body armor on COIN ops its given to SF guys only
Level 4 BP jackets is rated to stop 1 round of AP 7.62×63mm bullet ie a 30-06 round
awsumm vdo.. sir! try a 50 m sprint with this jacket. we really want to knw how heavy it actually is. lol!!
try sprinting with a crate of colas on your back...(24x12 300 ml glass bottles) that'll give you an idea :)
Is it designed by DRDO...
If not can you please tell the company name
i m engineer in this compny our compny level 4 jackets is light weith becauz it's made by silicon carbonate and boroncoabite plates we ensure the safty of our soldiers we r the no. 1 compny in India who's supply good product to our army and i feel proud to work in this...
Can a private person buy this jacket?
Silicon Carbide and Boron Carbide, you mean?
Another great video sir. I read somewhere that Ceramic BPJ is an old technology. Is it true? How good are the MKU BPJs which have been recently ordered for the army?
Abhijeet Dolai www.defenceglobe.com
recent advances in BPJ technology have rendered ceramic plates obsolete. uploaded this after watching the test of a radical new Hard Armor Panel by one of the government agencies recently-- weighs just 1.8 kgs and stops an AK burst at 10 m. (Level III). the MKU BPJs use ceramic panels. should think they are a stop gap technology pending the induction of new plates.
Thanks. Nope. the army's new body armor is Level III. this one is Level IV and 2-3 times the cost of a normal level.
A tcf bulletproof made by a scientist in crm university was passed recently, not sure if a finished product is out for comparison yet
A 1.8 Kgs BPJ stopping AK47 round at 10 meters! Are you sure? Can you tell which government agency was that?
Level 4 protection standard means it can stop a 7.62×63 M2 AP round.. not just the AK rounds and 308 winchester round
Awesome video
This thing is so much overkill. Considering that in modern battlefield, soldiers almost never get a direct hit from another rifleman, I don't think anyone would be interested in using this...
Also provide protection from explosive shrapnels and ricochets, etc.
Plz make a video on Excalibur rifle and why it was rejected and on patkha helmets used by army.
You happen to be a part of the India Today group yet we don't see these important developments being reported..?
above video is a rare encounter with a Level IV BPJ which has been around for some years. we do report on important tech advances in defence. do keep watching us.
Sandeep, thanks for the video and the chuckle. :)
Few questions from my end:.
Is this the new DRDO vest that just passed the Army trials?
Who is the manufacturer and what is it's cost?
Thanks in advance!
How true is the news about Dr Shantanu Bhowmick coming out with indigenous BPj's that are lighter & are waiting PMO approval for production?
siddhesh kolgaonkar lot of holes in the report
Firstly the recent lot of jackets we bought cost around 35,000 a piece not near the one and half lakh quoted
Also the weight reported is insanely light probably the weight of just one plate
Sir what's the status of the indigenous developed body armour that was reported recently
just wear a stunt proof suit it will eliminate the pain
Great video sir
♥️It is very safe bullet proof jacket ♥️
Give some information about the manufacturer
Is it legal in India to buy imported kevlar body armour plates and carrier?
I think dragon skin is the best body armor ever produced by pinnacle armor
Sir that jacket has good fabric quality and fit and finish some of the made in India jacket does not have that qualities....like bhabha kavach they work well on armour but don't focus on the fabric quality and fit and finish that things are matter lot it can improve soldier movement and speed...
Maybe good for Snipers, guard post soldiers etc as they don't have to move too much
Make a video on sporting arms. thanks
sir thanks for another great video. can you make a video on drdo multi calibur indigenous weapons system rifle
Now 9.3 kg nano fibre Bhabha BPA is developed by..Bhabha , ordinance and MIDHANI which can hold 7.63 bullet.....GOOD NEWS
sir can u make a seperate video on you firing the msmc , and also its specifications plzz
Man msmc was my one of the favorite gun in black ops 2
Please Make a Video on MCIWS Gun
From where will I get it
I want to purchase
I'd hate to be a soldier carrying that much weight. Kinda feel like it'd be good for home defense tho cuz ur not really running a while lot and probably use it for a short time.
It is used only for COIN operation or at max border patrols. Infantry can't wear it nor I seen any army units from US or NATO wearing it in war.
Sir how does one become a defence and national security correspondent
knowing a lot about the topic would be a good start :)
with this armor i will go challenge a tank. and die... of course.
Call me when you do that. I'll make a video. You won't be there anymore to watch it.... of course. LOL.
Sandeep sir: Why Indian Army or even the SF are mostly seen with tactical vests or military assault vests only or if BPV/BPJ's with very mini milastic gears.
Why they aren't seen like the Western or even Russian counterparts (Seals, Shayetet, Spetsnaz, Grom, S.A.S, K.S.K, etc,.) using BPV's or Plate Carrier's integrated with their versions of warrior assault systems, having various big to small multi-utility pouches, open top forward and side magazine pouches (eg: like HSGI Taco's, G Code Scorpion or ITW Fast Magazine pouces), Garmin foretrex 401 type navigators, Push to Talks which are routed for the Audio into the Peltors thats engraved to the high cut bulletproof helmets, (rather than taking out the radio everytime it preety solid), extra flashbangs or grenades pouches, dump pouches, general purpose pouches for keeping the NVG's, and other batteries for the gears that has been carried, D-ring type Chem sticks pouches, Ifaqs, buddy aid kits, Tourniquets, mobile phone or other similar touch screen holders.
Then Tactical belts equipped with open top magazines for both the primary and secondary weapon systems, buddy ifak kits, and other various utility pouches for other gears.
Not talking about the regular infantry but atleast spec ops should be equipped with such stuffs, they look deadly and ofcourse very cool.
They have got top notched guns but haven't seen them using such kits yet.
Why is that so?
1: Funding. It has to be remembered, even special forces units have a funding limit.
2: Needs. Look at difference between american special unit and russian special unit.
Russian use heavier armors, more emphasis on fast, violent operation where full auto sprays down the room and the fighter withstands the bullets or shrapnel of an explosion.
American use lighter armors to save the life of the soldier if they are hit, using fast, coordinated attack where the enemy is killed before they can respond properly.
Of course this does not cover all of them, some russian units use light american style equipment, but this is because they do not take the buildings over and instead are doing long range patrols or otherwise.
Looks heavy and long bed look
Mrp
Main India me rehta hoon
pakistan me nahi😂
Level IV jackets are usually wore by Bomb diffuse team, non Applicable for actual combat use... Well yeah sure... if your a 6.feet 10 inch guy who weigh 120 Kilo, well sure... LOL
I am 5'11" weighing 122 kg...can I use that?
20 Kgs is a ridiculous amount of weight to carry into combat!! Not including the rifle and the other gear.
To heavy plse improve it to 3kgs...
Hindi me b video bana liya kar mere bhai
Only one Complain from me Ur Videos are not High Defination!!!!
thanks for this suggestion. will remember to do so in future.
