- The (now dismantled) #OrdnanceFactoryBoard was once a public sector behemoth making everything from boots to battle tanks for the Indian armed forces. Until recently they also had the sole monopoly over military caliber small arms. Post the restructuring of the OFB, the Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Ltd (AWEIL) is the successor to the OFB's small arms business, making a range of pistols, assault rifles, carbines and light machine guns for armed forces. Featured in this video are:

Most of these weapons have an aesthetics of the 60s-70s, with an added picatinny rail as an embellishment.

It's clear that OFB either lacks innovation or designers or both as majority of these Weapons are based on AK-design.
INSAS Rifle's non-reciprocating Charging handle means that is also No forward assist.
In AK-design, Charging handle also acts as the forward assist for the rifles.
I hope that OFB will at least considers to develop an Indigenous & modernized version of:-
(1) RPK
(2) RPG-7
(3) SLR (FN-FAL) for DMR Roles
(4) MP5
It's possible that the above weapons including 7.62 Ishapore Snipe Rifle & 7.62 LMG will find a huge market within Indian CAPFs & State Police Forces.
I hope that Indian Military will consider to replace their Browning Hi-Power Pistols with Glock-17 from CMT Pvt Ltd under Make-in-India program.
This will insure that rest of the Indian Security forces also adopt Glock-17 as the Std. Pistol.
AK designs means they will be cheap and easy to maintain. So what’s the issue?

@@subhro1019 The only weapon that is relavant in 2024 from above mentioned fireqrms is JVPC, but i think they should downsize it's overall body for a compact size cause western militaries have MP7 which serves similar purpose as of JVPC but is light and compact. And as for other OFB firearms they are not on par with modern firearms, for example except for JVPC none of the weapon even have ambidextrous fire controls, or last round bolt hold open. And those are the most basic requirement for a modern firearm. And i am not even talking about that cheap plastics used by the ofb. And you still think OFB is any good than why did all the firearms designed by ofb failed army's testing amd i am not talking about 7.62 belt fed LMG it is a copy of FN Mag 58, and Trich is just a basic AKM with Polymer furniture.
And SSS Defence is a better option compared to OFB's lineup by a longshot i would say that even if SSS Defence just copies their designs from forign countries they are still atleast 2 decads ahead of OFB in terms of inovation.

Only the guns designed in collaboration with drdo, arde looks ergonomic and modern. Rest all look from 80s era. OFB at its best, lol.

How many rifles , Indian or international have you field tested so far to be able to give an educated opinion ?
For starter, these rifles should be provided to our paramilitary forces in large numbers, their effectiveness can be measured in that way

I hope those all hold up better than that Insas orange and black rifle. With war looking more and more likely. Its looking grim for some of my old Indian army buddies I trained with. These guns look like they were bubba's kitchen table projects.

All these are shoddy copies of AK..
MCIWS was something out of blue but these all use old era long stroke piston which increase the weight & recoil of the gun..
while the world is moving toward intermediate 6.8 or 6.5 cartridge army choose to go with obsolete for war 7.62×39 round & at same time chooses 7.62 Nato for other troops & that too doesn't have high magnifying scope to use it effectively..
SSS rifle seems more modern & up to date.. & they could develop & manufacture pur 'XM7' kind of rifle.. but no our MoD Babus & age old General wants to live in their own era..
