The Russians also make a modern AK 308 which is basically an AK12 chambered in 308 or 7.62 NATO. Since we already got the AK 203, I don't know why we didn't get that as well instead of getting the direct impingement operated SIG instead...even when SIG offers plenty of piston operated options
What is the use of picatinny rails if there are no optics or scopes. The front handgaurd lacks mlocks. The reason to upgrade ak was to add attachments and gadgets to it. It's range will remain 300-400 m all improvements will improve its accuracy.
I hope that Indian-Govt & Military will consider to sign a deal with Russia under Make-in-India program for:- (1) AK-204 (2) RPK-203 or a 7.62x39 version of RPK-16 This will insure Logistical commonality of ammunition for Indian Security forces.

No one from you had served in the Army…very easy to Blame the Army and accuse the Army top brass of corruption… but ask a soldier who fights in battlefield and uses these weapons …his life depends on it ….and my friends,,, all rifles made by DRDO are of rubbish quality….instead of blaming the Army…just ask the scientists who are paid in millions that why haven’t they are successful in making any good rifle…….

It requires operator as well as manufacturer right from the drawing board…drdo never wanted Army’s indulgence in any design or manufacturing of weapons and ammunition…the constitutional guidelines strengthened their position too… some work is done in the recent times but a lot is pending to be done ….designing a weapon needs officers to be deputed alongwith drdo…the problem is that due to conflicts on our borders and counter insurgency ops …we have paucity of the officers in the army…drdo doesn’t re-employ retired officers (just consultants max to max) …you need veterans to be re-employed for further research and development…weapon can never be successfully made without the operators…
