    To those who don't know, Sir has already done a full episode on News9 with Lt.Colonel Prasad Bansod the designer of ASMI.

    I actually had a thought when I was younger, what if we take the Bushmaster ACR, ACR already had 6.8 remington spc configuration. So we adopt something similar to it as an assault rifle. By definition,Assault rifle means a rifle capable of select fire, Indian army requires light rifle(shorter barrel length) 6.8 SPC has good lethality upto 3-400 metres with short barrel, Army requires low recoil, 6.8 SPC has lower recoil almost like a .556. The 7.62 NATO and US Army’s 6.8 fury round has absurd recoil patterns, not supposed to be full auto in an assault rifle, more suited for marksman rifle and LMG standards(needs weight to balance the recoil). A light weapon firing 7.62 NATO or fury having low recoil is impossible, even a roller delayed blowback action can’t solve that. But maybe the body armour’s are evolving so much that 6.8 fury is the future, still not a fan of specialised 3 part ammo, specialised barrel, massive wear and tear on barrels and bolts, logistics nightmare.

      we need to standardise on just two calibers- the 6.8 SPC and the 9 mm. there's an ARDE designed 6.8 x 43 mm round developed for the (now shelved) MCIWS- that's the way forward.

    • @m20superbazooka49
      @m20superbazooka49 2 місяці тому

      @@SandeepUnnithan I heard other countries are moving away from 9 mm smg because a carbine length AR, or something like tavor X95, AUG A3 outperforms an smg in every aspect along with body armour penetration, while keeping it an compact package. But I am pretty sure AUG A3 can be configured to accept 6.8 round without much recoil which can be used for special forces, a weapon like the Bushmaster ACR can fire 6.8 and with some changes made can also fire 7.62 NATO, I watched that weapon platform very closely when I was studying at class 8 I think. It was abandoned but had so much potential, you want more range? Take the ACR 7.62 NATO want an assault rifle? Take the ACR in 6.8 SPC or want an SMG? 6.8 can be fired from a carbine or bullpup in smg package having all the ballistic superiority over 9mm.

    The front grip should move a bit back or the barrel extended to prevent self inflicted unintended discharge injuries

    overmarketing and over hype is uncalled for. The real state of indian small arms quality is very well known to thr ground soldier. No amount of jugaad by infantry officers like bansod will make a difference until major industry is set up with foundational integrity to spawn innovation and foster innovative culture.
    The hindu mind is a conformist, non critical thinking, submissive, uninquiring and uncreative mind.
    Even asmi is a copy and reengineering of old uzi wrist to wrist loading smg, swiss B&T mp9 and austrian steyr tmp.
    Pls stop these gimmicks and focus on its mechanics including mettalurgical quality for longetivity and reliability in battle. Reliability as a factor singularly defines the value of a weapon.
    Sensationalizing own make in no way addresses the fundamental issues in our countrys failing policy making.
    The jingles of make in india are good to hear for the common citizen but are hard to bear for soldiers who have to face the music in battle.
    Asmi is yet to pass qualitative firing standards.
    For a battle rifle generally it is 3000 rds without stoppages.
    For a sub machine gun it may be around the same standard.
    Indigenous weapons quality control sucks in india!!!

    • @SandeepUnnithan
      @SandeepUnnithan  2 місяці тому +2

      Have faith in the Indian Army sir- there's a reason they've bought the Asmi, the first indigenous weapon buy since the INSAS, in over 25 years. Are you suggesting they didn't suitably trial the Asmi before ordering it for the Para-SF ? About quality control, give Lokesh Machines Ltd (LML) a chance. You won't be disappointed.

    • @darshp800
      @darshp800 2 місяці тому

      Many successful small arms present today in any armed forces around the World have some design and parts copied from other guns. And mind you all top gun manufacturers of the World have done this.
      Atleast think before writing, don't comment like a mad dog A.Raja, it's OFB which has been the culprit since long, here the manufacturer is LMT and not erstwhile OFB.
      And where does the Hindu religion comes into the picture here?
      Is erstwhile OFB reserved 100% for Hindu's?
      So by your shit logic since L&T defence, Solar Group, Bharat Forge, Idea Forge, SSS defence, Sagar defence, Tonbo imagining, MKU etc are run by Hindu's, how come MKU, Solar, TI BF are considered best in their segment.

      Dear Vinith, Somebody has to start, somebody has to innovate, somebody has to build... Give ASMI a chance and the results will be available for us to judge which does not matter anyway because we are not the user. There is a story about Japanese design students using their costly not at par with steadier design pencils for their assignments so that they will build their industry no matter what. I do not know how true it is but the intent is so amazing. Let's pitch for our product and continue to innovate building amazing stuffs

    • @r-vinth7923
      @r-vinth7923 2 місяці тому +1

      @@ArunSreedharan there is no malice intended here to anyone. I am merely highlighting the quality control issues that we have in india.
      Insas was a great weapon as far as accuracy was concerned. But the metallurgical quality which is the most essential for reliability of a weapon was super f' all.
      Drdo failed to improve on the barrel durability and penetration capacity despite many iterations after more than 25 years of battlefield experiences.
      And the fact that insas was inducted itself goes to show how poor our selection process is.
      If it was any other army insas would not have been fielded and rejected at the trials.
      Weapon forging reflects its people's cultural values of integrity and creativity. Unfortunately only time will tell on asmis quality.
      I would love it if iam disproved in time and would want to think that we are great (having sent spacecrafts onto moon and developed supercomputers)but alas with respect to weapons, they are something that we still lag in as we just can't maintain quality control and streamline our institutions of research which need accountability at all levels.
      Even with respect to asmi it's a private company that's producing the metals.
      Profit motive drives these companies to maintain quality but private military industrial complex is a double edged sword as it has its own interests to promote leading to perpetual wars for maintaining profit.
      Industrial production in the security field should be govt run with methods to tweak and force the system to work. Service to the soldier should be the key incentive to innovation not profit alone. For this reason india had ordnance factories within the govt domain.
      Shifting to private industry removes all notions of motive except profit. And in pursuit of the same corporations gain great leverage in the power corridors leading to competition eventually also not getting better as the few who have access to power deter others by using the govt functionaries. We all know how corrupted our govt systems are.
      India doesn't have small scale industrial enterprises indulging in large scale manufacturing of weapons. Instead a few already established big conglomerates capture the market using crony capitalism by preventing the rest of the competitors from flourishing.
      The only solution is in drdo and ordnance factories getting a major tweak in their accountability and process of human resource induction as these are key to developing and innovating technologies. Single point focus is necessary.
      A lesson has to be borrowed from Israel on how well they managed and exploited their human capital.
      Look at china and how well they have streamlined their state operated enterprises(SOE) which are similar to our psu's. Norinco the major small arms manufacturer for china is a SOE.
      Indians in govt dont improve their systems and rely on private enterprises which is not the way.

U think India ain't got any decent mechanical engineers to produce a light firearm? buy stuff from abroad means movement of money. so the forced dependence. correct me if I am wrong 😊 or maybe not, ur channel won't last a day in YT I guess if u point to the real reason 😅

      There are lobbies and vested interests who don't want countries to start developing their own weapons. this is the cornerstone of the defence trade. Sometimes it is nations who enforce this, at other times it is lobbies within. Mostly, its a combination of the above. But when you launch top-down defence indigenisation programmes and issue negative lists banning imports, then mindsets begins to change. the same out of work mechanical engineers start producing stuff. Stuff starts to get bought. there is confidence in the product. And then, lo and behold, the same European countries who squeezed you on arms exports start loosening their export controls... Notice how this v significant step came just weeks after the ASMI got its first foot in the door- 550 guns for the Para-SF. www.news9live.com/india/germany-lifts-ban-on-sale-of-small-arms-to-india-2513883
