- The TriCa or the Trichy Carbine is a well-disguised Compact Assault Rifle chambered for the 7.62x39 M43 round. This stubby short-barrelled assault rifle is very similar to several such weapons deployed by the former East Bloc countries like Bulgaria and Yugoslavia. The Soviets chambered their compact AK in the 5.45x39 round, the AKS-74U (mistakenly called the "Krinkov"). The TriCa is produced at the Ordnance Factory, Trichy. It was not named the TriCa when this video was shot -- hence names like "Baby Trichy Assault Rifle" or Baby TAR.

By good firearms, you mean copied versions of original good firearms? Trichy OFB, it seems, merely exists to give these people employment opportunities. Nothing original seems to come out of this. On the other hand, we have an up and coming manufacturer in Bengaluru, whose designs are atleast original.

@@bhayo8522China also made copied guns for their forces, some of their mainstays are still derived from Soviets. The point is not copying, any sane country will copy and make adjustments to users needs iteratively. Modern battle rifles in NATO countries are derived from AR platforms or something similar from other old platforms it doesn’t make them any less of a gun. Nobody cares if you win.
@@bhayo8522Aside from that, local made guns copied/original with good quality control is what is needed for the forces add optics and basic kits for standard load-out and you have an fairly modern army. OFB is crap and there’s no denying that but it can be salvaged by good technocrats and hard decisions.

You will still make a Gas Operated,short stroke or Long stroke, Closed or Rotating Bolt Assault Rifle which is Fairly Common in AK series and AR-10,15&18 and most of ARs around the globe runs on the above Mentioned systems so that's not copy Paste Industry? TRICA just looks Like AK-47 so that's why It's a Copy? But Do you know that their Working mechanism is Different? Oh I guess you didn't knew that cause it's based on ARSENAL SBR AR-M14SF

Bullets especially rife bullets need longer barrels to properly burn their powder and gain velocity. Out of short barrels like these it would have only slightly higher energy than a 9mm.

I think OFB should consider to consider to develop an Indigenous & modernized version of:-
(1) RPK
(2) RPG-7
(3) MP5
(4) SLR (FN-FAL) for DMR Role
(5) Drum Magazines.
The above 5 weapons can find a huge market within Indian CAPFs & State Police Forces.
We are kidding ourselves if we think we're going to produce an indigenous MP5. Our weapons industry is growing but it is nowhere there yet. When it comes to DMRs we already import the H&K PSG1, again it would be delusional to think that we will get a 1up on HK. Drum magazines are almost never used in modern military applications. I think we should indigenize something like the negev without disintegrating links, that would save us some money on the links.

@@psg9119 Nope, there was a statement that they would do so. I don't know of any official cancellations of arms deals yet. If they do act on that statement, there are still better options than russian weapons. AKs work fine but for LMG, GMG and DMRs screw the russian weapons.

Nice! How much of the rifle is made locally, vs sourced from Arsenal of Bulgaria? I looked at one in person a couple years ago, and it didn't appear to be just a remarked Bulgarian piece.
It's a completely reverse engineered (read completely unlicensed clone) version of arsenal ak, hence no bulgarian parts.

Excellent! Hoping to see this go through it's rounds of testing and then inducted in large numbers with various state police and commando forces. Would be a very powerful weapon to use in CQB missions.
Never understood OFB's obsession with Right-side folding Buttstocks especially with AK-style rifles.
OFB designers should consider to develop Left side folding buttstocks for Ghatak, Trichy & Trica-Carbine.
Easier to access for right handed users.
The right hand dominant users far outnumber dominant left hand users.

@@sk8899 A left hand one wont do anything as the charging and ejection is on the right side.
As for being on the right it is below the ejection and the charging handle as seen in the video so no obstruction.
@@thetankhunter100 Please check again, the charging handle won't be able to move once the buttstock is folded as well as modulating the Safety level for AKs won't be possible.

Can be handy for paratroopers because of its short length.
I dont think making and delivering a small arms in the tiniest amount of time is something to be proud of, we saw it with ugram and with trichy, this just means that they are putting together whatever they can to just push out a product so that there is something to show in their catalog. Do good RnD, understand the requirements and make something that is worth it come one. I was somewhat hopeful when the MCIWS program was under development but that failed too and was completely shut down. Just my opinion.
Also I do not understand the army's obsession with these plastic handguards, doesn't it just restrict the amount of attachments that can be added to the rifle, I mean there are so many better alternatives(mloc,quadrails,keylocs and many more).

The design looks dated, the furniture should be changed to have more picatinny and KeyMod.
Also the demo of firing in the vide, the recoil is good but the Assault rifle does not show a good recoil damping as the soldier seems pushed back a lot after firing the first round

Pardon the language but this is nothing but a bastardized edition of the AK74 compact assault rifle used by Russian Spetsnaz soldiers in the 80s and 90s. This rifle was also a favourite of Osama Bin Laden and can be seen in all his photos .Why is Sandeep Unnithan wasting his breath reviewing this rehashed version?
That is not a muzzle brake but a flash hider. Also this a copy of the krinkov that has been around since the 70's. Sound is awful in your video.

The Soviet Union issued it mainly to the tank crews and helicopter pilots as a PDW.
@MandarAkre the 7.62 * 39 is great for cqb, hits hard and penetrates barriers.

Completely wrong. 7.62 * 39 is actually well suited for short barrels because it only needs about 7 inches for the powder to burn completely. That's why the very similar .300 blackout has become so popular. Also, 7.62 * 39 is actually very good for urban combat because in that scenario its long range accuracy limitations don't apply and its barrier penetration capabilities are superior to 5.56 and 5.45

Seriously India would have gotten good assault rifle by now if it weren’t for these backward govt. please check the global market or try to participate in international gun show that has been happening, many countries are way advance in terms of thinking and their production where else India is still trying to brought up the old system that also with logistic issue and then they will rely on import at the end bc the army thinks that other country’s gun are better
