While I was hoping for driver talent trees; Specialist is also another great feature This review WAS NOT implying that folks should only listen to content creators that dedicate mass amounts of time to the SpinTires series alone. As most videos made on this channel; it is to give you a different perspective and even if you disagree, I hope it at least made you think about the things presented. Love ya’ll!
I would be cautious wishing for things like driver talent/skill trees. We, the players, are the talent. Talent/skill trees often consist of contrived concepts like "burn x% less fuel" or "truck takes x% less damage". Saber would have to be extremely careful to avoid absolute nonsense like this and make skills meaningful (and unrelated to the driving). I think less is more when it comes to talent and skill trees for a game like this.
I got what you meant. At least I think so. When I'm trying to make a decision about, say, a new installment in a franchise that I love, I tend to seek out UA-camrs that have played that type of game before too. I know we're on the same wavelength from the beginning, then.
@@NProvince I had been thinking about this while playing some Snowrunner, and you might be able to have something like consuming less repair points from a trailer or something that's related to the driving. Something like being a better field mechanic would be very believable. Maybe even something like being able to salvage parts from old wrecks that you find. I agree with you, it would have to be tested and balanced well, but it is possible to implement in a way that wouldn't impact the driving.
@@NProvince and no more high gear multiplier nonsense. You should have to choose between lots of torque or lots of speed. We should get massive amounts of torque in low gear as in real life, not the exact same amount but just at a lower speed.
Love your honest review, your not over inflating the information one way or the other. I love both games but for seperate reasons because like you said they are separate identities. Love the interactive aspect of snowrunner where you can see some visual changes that you are makeing. You are also a hauler so you pick up something from one spot and take it to another, but you usually end up pigeoned into running the same routes back and forth, and if you get stuck your stuck. SnowRunner is fun because its a jump in a truck and go, you figure it out along the way and if you get into trouble you just head back to the garage or pull out a different truck. In Expedition you are a explorer, your choices of paths become just about unlimited as you play through the game more. All the extra cargo, fuel and roll bars are what i would do if i was planning big money to go put and investigate stuff in the middle of nowhere where you can't visit the store next door and pick up what you need. Expedition is a time wasted with each expedition taking a short amount of time then you have to head back to the Headquarters to start next one, yes you can do some tasks while out on the expedition but some are locked because you may not have the requirements to do them. Expedition is a driving puzzle game on hardmode as regular. You have to preplan your gear, and loadouts for the task at hand. The other thing i noticed is you are kinda encouraged to jump between zones as you progress, the desert area goes from easy immediately into hard and very hard, but if you go to the forested area you can find more easy expeditions to help gear you up more.
Great review man! I think i feel the same way about it and so unless they do something more to attract the MR/SR crowds like myself, im sticking to SR for now :)
I like Snowrunner but I found a lot of the gameplay loop tedious. I love the exploration and off roading, but having to make 5 trips of cargo to complete a delivery mission got tiring, as it felt like gameplay bloat (although I know that's the core gameplay loop). Expeditions is looking interesting to me since it seems like more exploration and less "make 5 separate trips of large logs across a few maps to a farm" missions.
Fair review, Nathan, and I say that as a fellow "Snowrunner". I did have to chuckle a bit, though, at the "repetitiveness" point because, to me personally, that's the one thing that turned me off in Snowrunner. Not the cargo hauls in themselves, I, too, loved the whole haul and rebuild mechanic (and DO miss it in Expeditions), but I didn't much appreciate it when, starting in Yukon IIRC, it turned from "try to figure out how to get this load from A to B" (love that bit!) into "try to figure out how to get this load from A to B and then do the exact same thing 472 more times." I'd rather have 7 different hauls than 7 repeats of the same one.
@@vodkawhisperer3923 That's true, and I tried. And found myself procrastinating, doing every other task on the map until the repeat hauls were all that were left. 😄 Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love SR, but those repeat runs... not my favorite. Still, I'm up to 1,000 hrs in SR and nowhere near done with it. 😀
Yea the repetition of cargo to and from The same location can feel that way, but the cargo, trucks, and mission sets are very diverse. In the year 3 maps the repetition seems to lesson up especially if the benchmark is Yukon
@@NProvince Agree 100%. Year 3 was a huge step forward, as far as I'm concerned. Just the right mix of "fun" and "I'm going to throw this controller right out of the window, this minute!" 😅 Of course, that'll always be subjective. I absolutely hated Amur (to name another one, but that was mainly due to the soul-crushing nature of it), but I don't think any other game made me feel that good about myself when I finally conquered it! 😁
Absolutely the comment i was looking for , i generally love medium to small cargo hauling ..but from yukon they started this massive 50-60 slots of cargo to same location..thats a big turn off for me.. I just started my semi hard playthrough ...i been to the gold mine like 5th time..and my patience, i was done....and i was forced to bring in OP. Mods nd trailers just so i can get those missions done nd focus on other cooler ones
Nah man I got into snow runner around 2 years ago, and every time I needed to look up a video regarding the game I’d always look for your channel. You have opinions that are very well grounded and base your videos off of facts you are able to provide proof too. I remember your Taiga King video and you went over everything about both vehicles, even some minute details such as appearance upgrades that might also change which vehicle the player uses. I didn’t know much about Expeditions and was thinking about getting back into the Spintires series. However, with the lack visual progress you make, such as fixing buildings or repairing broken bridges, there doesn’t seem to be much in terms of progression. Money and trucks with a few upgrades? Little unfortunate to see tire deflation and rock crawling never make it into Snowrunner, and even more unfortunate to not see a manual gear box option either game. When I’m ready to play Snowrunner again I’ll just pick up the year 3 pass on sale.
I just finished my first mission in Expedition. I was shocked that the game told me to recover my truck then sent me back to the mission select screen. I was like " that's it?" The ability to overload our trucks to tackle different missions at the same time is what makes Snowrunner fun. You really need to plan ahead and use your 🧠. You feel you accomplish something when you spend 2 hours+ to haul materials to build that bridge because now you can access other parts of the map much easier and quicker because of the bridge you build.
Good review. Snowrunner is a hard core simulator of offroad trucks and transporting heavy loads on difficult terrains, Expeditions is an exploration game, similar to the scout missions in Snowrunner. If you like the simulation of heavy and offroad trucks - you play Snowrunner, if you like walking in the wilderness with checkpoints, taking pictures of mountains, controlling a drone, watching with binoculars - you play Expeditions. I am a fan of offroad truck simulations and heavy cargo transport.
@@mookateer I couldnt speak to that, but from what SD1ONE has told me and from what I've seen. I believe alot of older MR players liked it better than SR
Amazing Review, Agreed with each and every point you made. I think this game is a suitable testing ground for next main "runner" entry. Devs can try what works and what not in this game.
The confusing UI/map/mission mechanics are not Zen at all. This game is pure frustration in my experience. Until they fix issues with the framework I'm gonna stick with snowrunner.
The way I see it, as someone who put about 500 hours into mudrunner, well over a thousand into snowrunner, and who pre-ordered the supreme edition of this game, is as follows: the new vehicle and traversal mechanics are really cool and a step up from snowrunner, the core gameplay loop feels less satisfying and impactful than snowrunner (and not as fun, from the few hours I spent with the game off and on over the week-end, all while also playing snowrunner, which I kept getting the urge to play instead) , the controls make my head hurt. I also get the feeling that this game isn`t necessarily meant for people like us who enjoy the heavy haul aspect of the game, but rather those who specifically enjoyed the scouting and rock crawling moments when they`d show up. These games are apparently meant to co-exist as sister games (I guess this one would be considered a spin-off and not a successor). Also, I agree that in an attempt to make rugged looking visual customizations and chassis add-ons, they went too futuristic in the designs, which really clash with the anesthetics of the old Soviet and military iron in this game... I also think that things like the drone and Tyre inflation systems should`ve been upgrades that you can either find and equip to specific vehicles, or atleast unlocked a bit later in the game
@@mookateer I`d say snowrunner because of the more varied trucks and environments, the upgrade system, the fact there`s an economy, and most importantly, the fact there is more variation in what you`re doing and what the types of loads you`re carrying. Mudunner is much more simplistic, but the way the vehicle`s suspension and frame flexes is much more satisfying than the overall more rigid feeling trucks in snowrunner (some trucks in snowrunner do have vary satisfying flex, but some are vary stiff feeling, and the vehicle and terrain hitboxes are sometimes vary wierd, and make the lack of flex more apparant), but both games are just different feeling enough that they can both coexist and be enjoyed simultaniously (especially with so many map mods available for mudrunner)
You summed up my thoughts perfectly here. Man for me if they added the tire pressure, extend winch features and a TRUE manual gearbox to SnowRunner it would be my perfect game for that genre. That said, for those that enjoy the scouting aspect of snowrunner are going to likely really enjoy Expeditions but for me, I'm passing on it for now and will see how its progressed after SnowRunner's likely final season 4 of content. Thanks for the review Nate, God bless!
Still feels like a techdemo for a future Snowrunner patch, but with a full game pricetag. I'll grab it on a sale, and then, maybe there will be modded real life trucks and cars in it, like in Snowrunner (Defender, Hummer, Jeep, Hilux, vehicles that makes sense in a game scenario like this).
Very good review, I'm glad that you are into these tire spins games. You gave me a solid picture of this game and snowrunner, easiser for me to make choice. Thank you.
I LOVED Snowrunner, played Expeditions for over a day and lost my temper when the game didn't save my progress after almost a hour of grinding(cause everything is a terrible grind in this) in a single mission. So i un-installed it right then and there. I'm done playing games that don't respect my time, and with the repetitive missions that 90% of the time amount to: Go here scan this, go there, scan that. Rinse and repeat. I'm jst done with Expeditions. Will go back to Snowrunner when it's on special on Steam
@NProvince lol, hope I wasn't coming off as too hateful or jst hate-farming? But this whole game felt like it could jst be a single DLC for Snowrunner... It would only add: -A drone -Some tools -Tire mechanics -New Map and Vehicles. That's basically all I got from this game, hence my review/ comment. It jst felt like a scam...
I want to support saber because of the content they brought us - in not trying to cator to the call of duty crowd to make big money; instead they crafted a game they were passionate about, and just so happens to be doing well. Back when i was younger, playing games like red faction, i just got lost driving the truck around on mars trying to do hill climbs and stuff. Sometimes in snowrunner i just want to drive around not restricted to logistics. I'm pretty sure i'll be grabbing a copy of Expeditions. I wonder what future plans they have in mind for it.
Great review, especially seeing it coming from someone who understands the doctrine of a Snowrunner game. Knowing the minutia of conquering THAT puddle or THAT rock is what makes these games. Now I know that I will enjoy this game as well. Alongside Snowrunner, which is my favorite game ever. Double salute and a sub!
I'm like you, the main draw to SR is the hauling of different cargo. This game isn't that. It's mainly for those in SR that like trailing and rock crawling. Saber made a game for their needs. Just the same I bought it a few days ago. It's fun to an extent. Doesn't compare to SR though. I would like to see SR Devs devote a DLC in SR to the highway trucks and over the road hauling side of trucking. Not totally of course, but majority of highway roaming for hauling cargo or just make a game that is about that side of trucking/hauling. I'll support Saber in whatever direction they go. I really enjoy their games, especially SR. I have 3000 hrs into SR myself. Started on PS4, then started over on the PS5.
I have 1200+ h in Snowrunner, completing it second time now on Hard mode, and I found Explorations so relaxing, I will use it as a breather between hard missions in Yukon / Amur / Maine. I hope both games will coexist, and influence each other positively.
I just started playing it because it's available on Gamepass. A little late to the party but still. I've put a considerable amount of hours into Snowrunner, Mudrunner, Spintires (Mostly Snowrunner) so this is coming from a person who's familiar with the franchise. My opinion is that it's fun in a different perspective. It took me a bit to get around the initial shock of how everything feels, controls are different, you need to let the old system go and refocus on this game's controls. Muscle memory is going to mess you up, a lot, so be aware of that. Roll with it and get used to it and things will flow better. I like the scouting aspect, realizing it's a different beast of a game I know that I also need to adjust my perspective of what's to be expected. I agree that it certainly feels like there's not much change rather than getting money, but I like to add in a bit of my own head cannon into it, whatever makes you feel as if you're making a difference, but that's not easy to do. I would actually like to see them make Expeditions into a Snowrunner Prequel. What do I mean by that? I'm glad you asked! Well, in Snowrunner we all see the missions laid out before us, see what we need to do. But who decided that? Who found all the stuff that needed fixing? Well, wouldn't it be interesting to have the Expeditions team have done all that? *shrug* Maybe it's just me. Overall I'm enjoying it for what it's worth, paying nothing certainly helps. Would I buy the DLC like I have for Snowrunner? Eh, maybe? Probably not, time will tell. Still, it's a find little side game to scratch the itch, albeit a slightly different itch.
This is not snow runner 2 and while I think I wish it way understand it's a different game. I like the driving here but I'm a bit disappointed that fuel is so limiting. It doesn't feel like I can rescue my cars or set up a trailer to refuel which limits my time I'm the map. Nothing feels permanent because everything but bridges get reset when it's time to go. Specialist have the same feel. One time use that only affects that trip. I want something more permanent. I want to put up signs to show a good tail or something.
Well, almost all of the new features (like tire deflation, winch push mode, etc.) could be added in SR as free updates. But in that case devs could not sell Expeditions well, because there wouldn't be any new mechanics. Honestly, i would prefer to wait another 2-3 years for the new game that focuses more on cargo hauling, with improved physics and graphics(maybe even on the new engine). But devs have chosen easy way
great review! i just finished north carolina in snow runner and so am waiting on year 4 to drop. saw expeditions and thought maybe, but i enjoy actually completing cargo contracts and rebuilding the env in snow runner versus scouting etc etc.... so i will pass on expeditions for now and just wait for year 4.
@nprovince I bought the game and played for about 30mins then wanted to wait till u posted something. I feel about how u feel. We'll see what happens in the future.
From looking at the trailer and how they talked about the game i got the feeling that we would be delivering cargo more along the way like we do in Snowrunner. Not entierly to the complexity of Snowrunner but still closer to Snowrunner then what we got.
Yea, the cargo delivery is really attached to your vehicle slots and then you just drop them off and the space under your tarp on the truck bed gets smaller
I think I'm probably going to pass on Expeditions. It feels more like a tech demo for whatever they want to do for the next major title, but this doesn't really feel like a complete game in its entirety. Plus I'm still having a lot of fun with Snowrunner and there's a lot of regions I haven't done yet so I'm not hurting for another game in this franchise right now. I do love that the CTIS has made a return to the series, which hopefully means we get some more rock crawling terrain or sand in future titles. The push feature on the winch has also been needed, and I do miss feeling the weight of the trucks since coming from Mudrunner to Snowrunner. These are all things I'd love to see in the next main title.
I do feel you can continue to have a lot of fun with SR , but if you’d like to scout sometimes, expeditions can be a side thing. I definitely think something good will come of this on the next game
Thanks for very good review. Your review strike straight in me.. 😁First when I heard Expeditions I thought that “wow, that is my next game”.. But, I am kind like you what comes in snowrunner, I have only max 150 hours in. But those massive trucks, huge horsepower with big cargos IS THE THINK what make me hooked in snowrunner and little bit also Mudrunner too. I am sure that Expedition is good game for menu people. I have watch lots of game play videos and many reviews and decide to wait and not jet buy the Expedition. Keep doing good videos, thanks again.
There’s a bug last expedition on carpathean overall picture mission where you have to scan a lake for fish but no fish showing up a lot of people are getting stuck on this one
Thanks for the review, I'm not sure if I will buy this game, I enjoyed snowrunner but it became kind of repetitive at the end (I played season 1, 2 and parts of 3). And while I did enjoy scouting in Snowrunner I didn't really enjoy rock climbing, the physics often caused the scouts and trucks to get stuck on terrain.
It's ok to be repetitive if its logging. That's why the first spin tires was so good. Same objectives but maps thay challenge you to complete the objective. Super excited for the newer game thats coming out
Fair enough, thanks. I do have a question about these games, as I'm just getting back into them. Do you think it's better to use a gamepad or a wheel? I already have a pretty fancy triple monitor sim racing setup. I wish SR supported triples.
Loving the videos!! You have to check out the door sticker called "I beat the game!" under customizations, make sure you scan it. It's an epic Easter egg!!!
I have just found your channel. I loved your balanced view and like you I have had literally spent hundreds of hours in Snowrunner. I also have the game on Ps5 / Xbox S and Switch. I genuinely love this game. But I’m not a huge fan of scouting, I prefer hauling cargo with large trucks. Well a mixture of trucks. I like the roads, that gas stations, the warehouses and log stores. It’s just brilliant. Doing it my way, and like you say fix up regions and feeling accomplished once I have 100% Even the contests are quite fun. I feel Expedition’s has missed the mark for me and I am going to give it a swerve. After 4 years I feel it’s a shame this is the game on sale. I am ready for the next Snowrunner.
Thank you. Indeed a lot of hours on SR for sure. I think the game is good, but it’s just very different and i felt people need to know before they spend hard earned money
I feel like the market for this one has to be primarily the people who aren't as interested in the hauling mission focus of SnowRunner. During Spintires and MudRunner there used to be a ton of people who wanted a more extreme off-roading game experience, and hopefully this one satisfies them. Also, hopefully it is easy for the community to develop new maps for this one. As for myself, I don't even have time to finish all the missions in SnowRunner, so I'm not sure if I want to load a parallel game.
Nice review brother I was looking for your opinion 🎉, I was excited when I 1st saw the game but if I will stick for snowrunner for now and hopefully the merge some of the addons of expedition in snowrunner there so much to do in snowrunner
@nprovince your welcome brother 🤗, I start my new game + like when we got BC I just managed to complete michigan >> bc and I just start season 12 , as i nearly have time to play with my job
This game fails to pass the basics of game architecture, what is the player reward after completing pointless missions, just to get some money to buy inferior trucks compared to Pay2Win DLCs
Yea but there are also modded vehicles, i prefer to use them cuz the trucks in this game are just so odd to me, i was constantly asking why aint there a square body those are like the most famous off-roaders i know of, low and behold, the 1977 square body chevy in the mods list
Nice to see a honest review of the game, i love Snowrunner for the same reasons you talk about in the VOD. I have been waiting for the arrival of Expeditions but decided this time to hang on to see what ppl were saying about it and i feel you are right about a lot of content creators not really having a foot in the door for this series. Thanks to your take on the game witth your time put into previous titles i think for now I'm going to hang onto my cash for a little bit longer and see if things change, i certainly don't like the idea of the pay to win in this game and any other game tbh or maybe like you wait to see if something better comes out from them at a later date.
I am big into off-road driving simulation, even was trying to get my own project off the ground a couple years back, and I have to say that from watching videos Expeditions seems to have taken a step back both in visuals and in physics/gameplay. Snowrunner is an amazing game and I think I will rather play it some more than be getting this. Oddly slippery rocks (even when dry) and center of mass weirdness that makes trucks tip over when they really should not are pretty much the only things keeping Snowrunner from being a perfect game.
have about 12 hours, did 1 restart because i was confused and not collecting something I should have but pacific drive is an excellent game in itself, Nothing like this, the car doesnt control like this, but being able to slowly build up this station wagon in this weird exclusion zone is so appealing, I'm refunding expeditions until co op comes out, for now I dont see me playing this game alone in the long run, but snow runner im fine with just playing by myself, not sure why that is@@NProvince
To comment on why trucks feel heavy its cause of added lines to engines called EngineResponsiveness also brake delay and less torque overall on all engines + suspension strength is lowered as well
@@NProvince they did changed center but weight is almost same i checked both games tatra force one more thing i forgot to mention its transmission gearing is changed also true tire coding is not the same i'm in process of copying what i can from expeditions to snowrunner to make game challenging
Great review! As a guy who wished for more scouting in snowrunner, this game felt nice to me... But I can see this becoming tedious after some time.. Other than that this has been worth my time
I usually disregard critique about controls in situations like this. I think some Snowrunner enthusiasts detect "different than what I'm used to and what I've trained with" and perceive it as "bad"... when in reality if you had put 1,000 hours into Expeditions first you might go to Snowrunner and call those controls "bad". The most valuable takeaway i got from this video and what other reviewers didn't touch on is the gameplay loop feeling like busywork. Beautiful map. Missions on map. But snowrunner made you feel like the world was changing. Does this game have bridges that are built? New supply depotd and garages that are unlocked, etc? It was so cool to unlock new paths for yourself in Snowrunner... is there anything like that here?
What disappointed me the most was the game doesent really have much in the offroading department, take mudrunner, EVERYWHERE you went there were going to be deep ass mudpits for you to struggle through, where as in this game i barely ever have to switch to four wheel drive lmfao, this game is more so a rock climber, and the rock climbing aint all tht satisfying to me, maybe im biased but i just dont enjoy it as much as i do mudrunner
one thing that worries me about this game is lack of progression... in snowrunner you build bridges, repair pipes, rescue/deliver vehicles basically everything you did had some world progress and goals in mind... in expeditions it feels like bunch of missions that I can find in BeamNG.
The control's change is 100% the reason I plan to wait a LONG WHILE before I decide to start playing. They will make a ton of improvements in the first year, and there's more great things to experience coming with Snowrunner still. So before I commit to getting comfortable with new controls, I am going to stay with Snowrunner alone until I burnout on it.
In my opinion, this could've been added to the Snowrunner we all know and love. From the videos I've watched, there just isn't enough difference between the two to justify a whole separate game. This would've saved a massive amount of time for the devs aswell. Not to mention, they could've fixed more bugs and glitches in Snowrunner aswell. I just don't think this game is going to do as well as they think. I could be wrong, but I don't think people enjoy scouting enough to enjoy something like this, even with the upgrades to the scout trucks.
Great review, Nate. I agree with most things you said. Enjoying the game myself, to my big surprise, but not as much as SnowRunner - the terrain is just too difficult.
I feel like they've purposely not added desert regions in SnowRunner just in order to have something different in Expeditions. I personally think Expeditions complements SnowRunner quite well, you have to be a bit more calculated in the routes you choose. You can't just whip out the ol' TwinSteer and blast your way through a load of missions 😂
It definitely is its own game for sure. I do like a lot of things about it and I will continue to play it casually. I also like how it challenges your balance and your routing
Most games reward players regularly - points, levels, new items, or a sound when you get something. This activates the reward system in the brain, releasing dopamine, the hormone of happiness. This cyclical loop ("I did something -> reward -> I want more") is incredibly addictive because it constantly motivates us to keep playing. In this game and in the whole series this mechanic also exists, but it is really slow. Too slow for typical game addict ;)
I played SpinTires for Years. Since the Original inception. I kind of lost interest about two months after snow runner came out. It felt like it was headed in a direction I didn't care for. I'm Definitely considering giving this one a shot. Did Snow Runner ever allow you to have more than two installed mod vehicles? Any idea if this one will allow mod vehicles?
I'm a pretty big fan of the mud runner games, own em all. I didn't even realize this existed let alone released weeks ago until today, opened the epic games store for the first time in forever and this popped up. great marketing lmao
I agree with you. I enjoy Snowrunner more than Expeditions, but I just enjoy the extra content very much (there are no other offroad games like these) and I want to support the developer for that reason.
I'm roughly 15 hours into the game and i wasnt the biggest fan of Snowrunner because the material handling aspect but I love this game so far. Whatever I'm driving always seems to steer toward trees even if I'm 30 feet from the nearest tree 😂
In my opinion this is a game that I would probably pick up on sale it's not a bad game but it just looks like they took the scouting portion of snowrunner and made its own game and then took some of the mods that had been released for snow runner and made them base game features and don't get me wrong there are other games that do that too that take mods and then make them into a base game feature later on so in my opinion I'm just going to stick with snowrunner and I hope that since they're working on this game alongside snow runner it doesn't dull down what they're doing to snowrunner and they continue with decent updates
As much as I wish for there to be basically an improved snowrunner I appreciate that this is targeted to a slightly different audience and hope that in this expansion of what the games are targeted to that there will be later games focused on heavy hauling, nice vehicle feel and a lot more terrain fixing than snowrunner in the future. I hope one day we get a game where I can fix all the roads so they are good as new over time and really feel like im fixing the infrastructure completely starting at nothing
I definitely agree with you, I love snowrunner, I just feel like there’s not enough here at the moment, I’d like to see more flex in the suspension and the rubber forming to the rocks and dirt, I don’t see it at the moment which sucks, I’ll probably wait for a sale, as a die hard Snowrunner fan 🖤🙏
I can understand that. The deflation does get the rubber forming somewhat to my understanding, but you definitely can wait to get it on sale and it would be a good purchase for sure
I think you should try pabcific drive for a change of pace 😅 i play the mudrunners series for tge ability to use giant machines that conquer the landscape. Not really into the smaller scout vehicles.
thanks for this review; i've had a nagging itch telling me i was not going to like the game, so it was great to hear your opener talk about listening to trusted streamers, and then hear my exact suspicions be addressed. Scouting is *okay*, but it's my least favorite part of SnowRunner.
My friend told me about this new game. The only thing he had to say that turned us both off is there’s no online/co-op. Also heard that apparently you just explore the maps and drive around, there’s no tasks or really much to do. If that’s the case it might as well just be a Trucker edition of Forza horizon 😂, except oh wait, did I mention it’s single player.
I agree. I felt that in snowrunner i was making a difference to the area which would make things easier for myself in future runs. Expeditions feels like a slog nearly everytime you go out
The entire point if this game is the journey, not the destination, its meant for exploring, not much else, yes the missions exist but you can outright ignore them and just explore the whole map if you want to lmfao
@@NProvince the mods arent downloading on the console side, it just keeps saying “1 mods is loading “ and it never is done with the download… Edit: not for Expeditions but for SnowRunner
@@NProvince It was unusual seeing how you elenceted the pros first this time around. But yeah you nailed it it's a game for the scout enjoyers at large.
Hi Nathan, have similar view on game. Game is very repetitive and I miss this small videos how your cargo makes changes on map. I would say who never play snowrunner may like this game more than person who finished 12 season. For a positive moment I would add on Marshal you can cross any forest and with proper gear climb up any uphill. You creativity is only your limit. Don't be shy get logistics and dron specialists, they help to short time in discovery, climb up high use binoculars, if you need look behind mountain use drone with 160m range and 50m hight. But here some bugs when use drone game crash for me, have upgrade which can't collect. Found hard to make few quests same time, after finishing main quest can't use a map to switch sub quests.
@@NProvince For now as starter I try finish quests who only give upgrades, I try skip money quests, sub quests can give specialists not sure about upgrades. To enjoy game more you need first of all forget about snowrunner, use scouts with auto winches or take item to put you back on wheels, experiment with routes. I wait a lot when map will be created like we have in snowrunner. Think need wait a bit to have more fun after hot fixes and interactive map will be ready. Sometimes take few trucks and leave one to short travel time if task will be near base or other camp, free first fast travel
I just bought this game on sale from Amazon lol, I've played the other two games, BUT just wanted a game more like this, just drive & explore... IDC for co-op or anything like that because I have no one to play with 🤷🏼♂️ anyways I can't wait to get my copy
I love how while you're talking about the gearboxes slowing down and how you enjoy the 'taking your time' aspect, you're bulldozing through rocks, boulders and just throwing both your trucks off literal cliffs to progress.. that's not what taking your time means. 😅
Good, solid review man. Personally, even if this game hit only a couple dollars, I'll stick with Snowrunner Lol Planning on getting Mudrunner ina couple years if Saber hasn't made an actual sequel to the MR/SR series. Expeditions just has no meat to nibble on, and i dont see it getting enough through DLCs to even get into. I wonder if they wanted to add these new physics into the next installment, but their investors urged them to release a new title, or something, cause this game doesn't feel like its meant to be its own game.
Fantastic review, I should have watched this video before buying Expeditions... I too enjoy moving massive amounts of cargo and rebuilding infrastructure/rescuing cars. Endless scouting (busy work) isn't fulfilling. Also, I play on Xbox Series X and the constant frame stutter due to the PROS profile interaction (according to googling that is potentially the cause) is really irritating. Will likely continue playing and supporting Sabre because I like them as a developer.
Indeed its not SnowRunner, but it runs on the exact same engine and adds to elements of well.. Scouting. The review was very clear on that i believe. If you enjoy scouting and exploration, then this is for you
Your opinion is more relevant than that of streamers or newcomers who do not have a critical point of view. 👍 I think Expeditions is targeting a younger audience, to attract them to the SnowRunner franchise.
While I was hoping for driver talent trees; Specialist is also another great feature
This review WAS NOT implying that folks should only listen to content creators that dedicate mass amounts of time to the SpinTires series alone.
I know what you mean. That’s a good point. I guess it would have to be tested. I do have some ideas, but that’s for another time
I got what you meant.
This game is perfect for those who like rockcrawling in snowrunner maybe some rockcrawler mods and maps instead of managing cargo or trailers
I reallly just want to see them add in manual gearboxes with realistic engine torque simulation, and better engine audio simulation.
That probably will happen in future installments.. hopefully
@@NProvince and no more high gear multiplier nonsense. You should have to choose between lots of torque or lots of speed. We should get massive amounts of torque in low gear as in real life, not the exact same amount but just at a lower speed.
Yea. It is annoying when in instant you drop from 4th to stall.
#5 4:35 seems like deal killer.
that will never happen. You can thank the console players for that.
It's looking more and more like a game I would get during a Steam sale.
Steam sale could be a good buy Rob
Yeah after watching videos, glad I didn't buy the early access. I'll wait for a sale
Wait for a sale for sure its super buggy and honestly the ground physics seem extremly dumbed down. I was quite disappointed.
It's on sale now 🫡
Got it free on game pass and I still feel robbed. Game stole my time. Not even worth the memory it wasted. -9/10.
I just want the desert maps, tire pressures, and other new tweaks and features of Expeditions in Snowrunner.
Those could happen. We will see though
Desert maps look nice, but with time you feel depressed in them. I prefer the snowy and green maps instead
the more games like this, the better
You know the game is called SNOWrunner right?
@@Nil2none LOL
Thank you! Very very detail great points as well!
Ill be sticking with snowrunner
I don’t blame ya
Me too.. snowrunner still getting updates an dlcs
Snow runner was the 1st installment try muddrunner
@@Justin-qt4ow been playing mudrunner for years and before that spintires when it first was released.
Great review man! I think i feel the same way about it and so unless they do something more to attract the MR/SR crowds like myself, im sticking to SR for now :)
Thank you!
Just dont do it all at once. I take long breaks and it doesnt feel repetitive
@@vodkawhisperer3923 That's true, and I tried. And found myself procrastinating, doing every other task on the map until the repeat hauls were all that were left. 😄
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love SR, but those repeat runs... not my favorite. Still, I'm up to 1,000 hrs in SR and nowhere near done with it. 😀
Yea the repetition of cargo to and from
The same location can feel that way, but the cargo, trucks, and mission sets are very diverse. In the year 3 maps the repetition seems to lesson up especially if the benchmark is Yukon
@@NProvince Agree 100%. Year 3 was a huge step forward, as far as I'm concerned. Just the right mix of "fun" and "I'm going to throw this controller right out of the window, this minute!" 😅
Of course, that'll always be subjective.
I just started my semi hard playthrough
...i been to the gold mine like 5th time..and my patience, i was done....and i was forced to bring in OP.
I appreciate those kind words, thank you!
Thanks for your honest opinion about the game , Nathan . I definitely feel the same way about the game
Menace! You didn’t have to do that man. Seriously, thank you for that donation. I really valued your opinion on the game as well brother
Thank you! Very well said. They are just 2 different game styles and they have their place :)
what about the older mudrunner compared to snowrunner?
@@mookateer I couldnt speak to that, but from what SD1ONE has told me and from what I've seen. I believe alot of older MR players liked it better than SR
Amazing Review, Agreed with each and every point you made. I think this game is a suitable testing ground for next main "runner" entry. Devs can try what works and what not in this game.
Thank you for those kind words. They mean a lot especially coming from a SpinTires veteran. Hopefully the next installment is great
I respect and appreciate that you called it the "Spintires" series. That is the games true name.
To sum up the video, Nathan is absolutely correct by saying: "Perhaps there is a better snowrunner in the works."
Thats what i hope also
That is the hope :)
This is not something I normally would play, but it seems so calming some how. I’m intrigued.
Its a good destresser for sure and probably the best to jump into rather than Snow Runner, Spin Tires and/or Mud Runner.
It definitely is a chill game
It's a Zen game for sure.
I also think that things like the drone and Tyre inflation systems should`ve been upgrades that you can either find and equip to specific vehicles, or atleast unlocked a bit later in the game
between just mudrunner and snowrunner, which do you prefer overall? :)
@@andreanastacio9548 thanks! i have mudrunner and have been considering getting snowrunner as well :)
Good points :)
Agree with your Brody, God bless you as well
I was never a fan of the hauling in snowrunner. I would assume expedition might be more my style?
@@Shotguner Yes it might be more your style!
Steam sale or any sale would be a good purchase I think
Thank you, Nathan. This one is the best and most honest review I've seen so far.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very good review, I'm glad that you are into these tire spins games. You gave me a solid picture of this game and snowrunner, easiser for me to make choice. Thank you.
Thank you! Glad you found it useful
This is understandable
@NProvince lol, hope I wasn't coming off as too hateful or jst hate-farming?
But this whole game felt like it could jst be a single DLC for Snowrunner...
It would only add:
-A drone
-Some tools
-Tire mechanics
-New Map and Vehicles.
I respect that!
Ever use a wheel?
I definitely understand what you mean
Agree.
I felt that scouting was a thing i just had to do to get further in the game.
Driving big trucks with heavy loads is the real game
Really appreciate your objective review as an experienced Snowrunner player. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! Glad you appreciated the video
i will wait till it comes on sale or games pass. thanks for the honest review
Good review Nathan…I was waiting on your review. Take care brotha!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Your intro is why I'm here. I haven't really watched anything on this game, just yours. I will check out Tribe of cars or whatever it is too.
I think honestly checking out SD1ONE above anyone is the best move . He actually is a fan and devoted to the SpinTires series since it began.
@@NProvince I'll look into that, thank you for the info.
Did they fix the issue with the steering wheels not working? There were only a few supported steering wheels in Snowrunner.
I do not know if they did or not. I haven’t played Expeditions in quite some time. It should be in there patch notes
I have been playing cod and diablo and let me say this game is so relaxing and calming love playing it at night and just chillin out. Great review
Glad you enjoy it!
So I actually just use a controller and it’s perfect for me
Loving the videos!! You have to check out the door sticker called "I beat the game!" under customizations, make sure you scan it. It's an epic Easter egg!!!
I will check that one out for sure
I have just found your channel.
I loved your balanced view and like you I have had literally spent hundreds of hours in Snowrunner.
I also have the game on Ps5 / Xbox S and Switch.
I genuinely love this game.
But I’m not a huge fan of scouting, I prefer hauling cargo with large trucks.
Well a mixture of trucks.
I like the roads, that gas stations, the warehouses and log stores.
It’s just brilliant.
Doing it my way, and like you say fix up regions and feeling accomplished once I have 100%
Even the contests are quite fun.
Perhaps yea, it could be a very big appeal to folks who like off-roading and adventure with 4x4s and such
They went the opposite direction I wanted personally…. I liked the hauling

Nice review brother I was looking for your opinion 🎉, I was excited when I 1st saw the game but if I will stick for snowrunner for now and hopefully the merge some of the addons of expedition in snowrunner there so much to do in snowrunner
Thanks Bryan! There definitely is a lot to do in SR still for me as well
@nprovince your welcome brother 🤗, I start my new game + like when we got BC I just managed to complete michigan >> bc and I just start season 12 , as i nearly have time to play with my job
Thank you! It is a good looking game, but it’s not something I will throw hundreds of a hours at. I probably will just play it here and there
I am big into off-road driving simulation, even was trying to get my own project off the ground a couple years back, and I have to say that from watching videos Expeditions seems to have taken a step back both in visuals and in physics/gameplay. Snowrunner is an amazing game and I think I will rather play it some more than be getting this. Oddly slippery rocks (even when dry) and center of mass weirdness that makes trucks tip over when they really should not are pretty much the only things keeping Snowrunner from being a perfect game.
Wonder if you heard about Pacific Drive?
I have, I’m gonna look into it
have about 12 hours, did 1 restart because i was confused and not collecting something I should have but pacific drive is an excellent game in itself, Nothing like this, the car doesnt control like this, but being able to slowly build up this station wagon in this weird exclusion zone is so appealing, I'm refunding expeditions until co op comes out, for now I dont see me playing this game alone in the long run, but snow runner im fine with just playing by myself, not sure why that is@@NProvince
To comment on why trucks feel heavy its cause of added lines to engines called EngineResponsiveness also brake delay and less torque overall on all engines + suspension strength is lowered as well
That’s cool! I believe they did lower center of gravity’s and added weight as well
@@NProvince they did changed center but weight is almost same i checked both games tatra force one more thing i forgot to mention its transmission gearing is changed also true tire coding is not the same i'm in process of copying what i can from expeditions to snowrunner to make game challenging
Great review! As a guy who wished for more scouting in snowrunner, this game felt nice to me... But I can see this becoming tedious after some time.. Other than that this has been worth my time
Thank you!
I feel that. MudRunner really was a gem. I actually might play that again
Thank you very much for your input, i was looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this game.
My pleasure!
CLARKSON!!!!!!
one thing that worries me about this game is lack of progression... in snowrunner you build bridges, repair pipes, rescue/deliver vehicles basically everything you did had some world progress and goals in mind... in expeditions it feels like bunch of missions that I can find in BeamNG.
I can’t lie not hauling the cargo in the big trucks is such a win for me I hate that shit
That's what these games is about 🤔.
That's the idea of these games
Nathan, do you still think there is any chance the good things about Expeditions like better driving physics will be ported over to Snowrunner?
I think some things like the push/pull winch might make an appearance, but driving pretty much is set. After 4 years I doubt they would overhaul it
@@NProvince OK, thank you. I had hollow expectations then. Do you think year 4 expansion is the last one for Snowrunner?
The control's change is 100% the reason I plan to wait a LONG WHILE before I decide to start playing. They will make a ton of improvements in the first year, and there's more great things to experience coming with Snowrunner still. So before I commit to getting comfortable with new controls, I am going to stay with Snowrunner alone until I burnout on it.
I think a control change would be something they implement
Where is the scout 800 and krs bandit though? I couldve sworn it was in the promo materials
krs bandit is in game, just need to do mission to get it. no tippy scout 800 in game though.
KRS is in there I believe
@@NProvince You're right the KRS is there.
Thanks Vlad. Glad you enjoyed it!
SR allows multiple mods I believe . I don’t play with them but I do believe folks have multiple
So how's the multiplayer in this currently? That's probably my biggest question.
no multiplayer as of now.
Yeah there isn’t one. It says “coming soon” beside the menu option
Ya the extra content and exploration is pretty neat
I'm roughly 15 hours into the game and i wasnt the biggest fan of Snowrunner because the material handling aspect but I love this game so far. Whatever I'm driving always seems to steer toward trees even if I'm 30 feet from the nearest tree 😂
That can be frustrating lol
Make sure you set steering to a game wheel. Your tires will re-center making driving much more pleasant.
On sale would be a good purchase
I'm liking the game. I'm kinda tired of hauling cargo around the same road. Figuring out routes in this game is fun.
Indeed it is directed at a different audience that enjoys the exploration aspect
I definitely agree with you, I love snowrunner, I just feel like there’s not enough here at the moment, I’d like to see more flex in the suspension and the rubber forming to the rocks and dirt, I don’t see it at the moment which sucks,
I’ll probably wait for a sale, as a die hard Snowrunner fan 🖤🙏
I can understand that. The deflation does get the rubber forming somewhat to my understanding, but you definitely can wait to get it on sale and it would be a good purchase for sure
"The gameplay feels much more slowed down than Snowrunner". In that case, just go play The Longing. Both have a similar pace progression-wise.
im holding out for a deep discount. im 85 hours into Snowrunner and haven't even finished Michigan yet. still have lots of value left in SR
I think you should try pabcific drive for a change of pace 😅 i play the mudrunners series for tge ability to use giant machines that conquer the landscape. Not really into the smaller scout vehicles.
Good review i have 500 hours in snowrunner in 3 months of playing the game i may only put 100 hours in this as a side game to snowrunner
Thank you! I think I definitely will play it some, but not like SR
thanks for this review; i've had a nagging itch telling me i was not going to like the game, so it was great to hear your opener talk about listening to trusted streamers, and then hear my exact suspicions be addressed.
Scouting is *okay*, but it's my least favorite part of SnowRunner.
You’re welcome. I still watch content on it and I will play it to allow ya’ll to see as much as needed so you may make an informed decision
Waiting if they will ever add support for mods, it was the only reason I played SR… We and my friend played the TnB maps for hours and hours
I do believe they have had mods almost hours after release. There definitely are mods for expeditions. I just don’t know the number of them
@@NProvince the mods arent downloading on the console side, it just keeps saying “1 mods is loading “ and it never is done with the download…
Edit: not for Expeditions but for SnowRunner
I bought the hype...should have just purchased all snowrunner dlc i learned a lesson
I think a lot of folks did with the expectation of something great. Sadly it was still good but not what a lot of folks expected
you're definitely not wrong about the cars looking a bit cartoony. I noticed it immediately too
Glad someone also agrees
Don't care about this game, but Nathan updated a video. You know it will be full of details and well articulated. 🤝🏻
I appreciate those kind words
@@NProvince It was unusual seeing how you elenceted the pros first this time around. But yeah you nailed it it's a game for the scout enjoyers at large.
I need opinions before i buy the game, Thx nathan & keep it up!
Thank you!
I'll play this for a bit, but then I'm going back to SR. I hope some of these features make it into the next "real" runner.
Great points here as well! I’ve also had the game crash with the drone multiple times as well! I do like the vantage point scouting aspect
Expeditions seems like a sequel to Mudrunner than Snowrunner. The time sink you mentioned was also an issue with mudrunners.
Ahh yes that wasn’t intended lol 😂
Good, solid review man.
Personally, even if this game hit only a couple dollars, I'll stick with Snowrunner Lol Planning on getting Mudrunner ina couple years if Saber hasn't made an actual sequel to the MR/SR series. Expeditions just has no meat to nibble on, and i dont see it getting enough through DLCs to even get into. I wonder if they wanted to add these new physics into the next installment, but their investors urged them to release a new title, or something, cause this game doesn't feel like its meant to be its own game.
Thank you sir!
I really like it but stopped playing in hopes of upcoming patches the missing/los res textures on consoles really break immersion almost constantly.
I believe there will be updates for sure
Fantastic review, I should have watched this video before buying Expeditions... I too enjoy moving massive amounts of cargo and rebuilding infrastructure/rescuing cars. Endless scouting (busy work) isn't fulfilling. Also, I play on Xbox Series X and the constant frame stutter due to the PROS profile interaction (according to googling that is potentially the cause) is really irritating. Will likely continue playing and supporting Sabre because I like them as a developer.
But it’s not Snowrunner
Indeed its not SnowRunner, but it runs on the exact same engine and adds to elements of well.. Scouting. The review was very clear on that i believe. If you enjoy scouting and exploration, then this is for you
Am I the only one who sees that the binoculars and drone are nothing more that screenshot cameras being used as game content?
I find them very useful for planning the route
They definitely are like watchtowers
@@NProvince Watchtowers are a cutscene and not a free camera.
@@vertstartail6592 In fact, it is much more convenient to use the drone rather than clicking on a watchtower every time to be able to look around
Your opinion is more relevant than that of streamers or newcomers who do not have a critical point of view. 👍
I think Expeditions is targeting a younger audience, to attract them to the SnowRunner franchise.
Oh mah lord, he started with the pros. I'm scared, guys.
