    This information was mentioned in the SnowRunner Discord Channel by Knite regarding these principles. Since then I have been spending some spare time and stream time looking into this as well. This is great information to make low P2W trucks have better pulling potential so thank you Knite. KNITES YT: www.youtube.com/@KniteTime

    I will test this on gameplay; it is definitely very interesting, for sure. The concern is how the maps with hills in Showrunner are made. Basically, we don't have a "clean" hill like on this map test. There will always be rocks(with almost zero grip for any tire), deformations, corners that make us lose momentum, bumps, etc. If the hill has any mud or deep mud before, we can get stuck due to the mechanics of as much wheel spin, less grip we have and more the truck digs. But it's still very interesting.

    • @NProvince
      @NProvince  11 місяців тому +1

      This is a test strip yes, but the principle still remains and the problems with trucks locking up also remains an issue. Other testers have confirmed that this has made a lot of lower P2W trucks useful.

    • @Mineiran

      @nprovince Sure, and I think devs are adding these trucks with low power to weight because maps are getting easier, from my point of view. 0:33 From your top 15, 5 of them are quite recently added. If you include 16 of the trucks on your list, you will have pretty much all trucks considered kings of SnowRunner or OP by the community.

    • @NProvince

      True.A lot of those trucks up there are some of the stronger trucks indeed. Some though don’t have trouble as much with inclines

  • @LucYGaming_

    Yep i had notice this exact same thing, and did the same, downgrade the tires so they would spin just a tiny bit to avoid axel freeze.
    Makes sense really, if you ever have driven through sand or mud IRL, if you get just the correcto amount of spinning in the wheels, you are good, remove some power or go too hard, you sunk almost instantly.
    is really funny to find that balance when you are being swerved side to side xD

Afaik it works on every muddy surface if its not waterlogged, and you dont bottom out. Works best on UOD/UAD/UHD tires :)
      Another thing i noticed: if your truck lacks diff lock, a simple way fo overcome wheelspin, is to floor it, and simoultaneously switching up a gear. Works best when shifting from low-/low to low+ or auto :)

  • @ali_baba0613
    @ali_baba0613 11 місяців тому +4

    What would happen if you changed gears when the speed is similar? During the first test on the OHD I tires, the change from LOW+ to LOW gears occurred when the P12 was going 0.8m/s, while with the JAT it was 2.2m/s. If both were changed during a similar speed, what would be the result? The same thing happened with Kenworth. The gear change from LOW+ to LOW on the MHS tires occurred when it was going 1.3m/s, while with the 963 it was changed at 2.1m/s. Based on this, I believe this test is disqualified.

    • @NProvince
      @NProvince  11 місяців тому +3

      Ya I was a tad late on that switch on
      The OHDs, but no matter my provision they still froze on this hill. I’ve tested this off stream which is why i was confident in these findings on live stream.
      So you’re talking about a target speed, but that was just a speed I was planning to
      Switch. Also keep in mind, I was on stream monitoring chat while doing all this at the same time. The OHD test was running fine and abruptly dropped off, but the result in any test is the same. I’ve run this plenty of times. This was done on a live stream.
      Run the test yourself. This already has been confirmed by other testers.

    Contrary to popular believe, tyres don't have the most grip when they don't slip. They have the most grip when they slip at a certain threshold. Of course this varies greatly, but having your setup whether irl or games aimed at no slip won't give you the most grip. Talking about tarmac or other closed surfaces. But even on dirt you want slip, but explaining that takes too much words for a comment.

    Is it possible we are misunderstanding the concept of power to weight ratio ? Better PWR just mean better acceleration, not better ability to pull overall. Anyone correct me if im wrong.

    • @NProvince
      @NProvince  11 місяців тому

      I dont think so because better p2w would also produce better pulling power (by having more availble p2w overhead) and acceleration. You wouldnt just have one and not the other. I beleive you would see increases in both. At what increments? That probably depends on the gearing as well

    this is exactly what i've been experiecing with the P12 lately. I thought it just semeed ridiculous for a truck that should be... so powerful to struggle that much, even on much less steep hills than the one showed here.
    This video is 7 months old but could you give me your opinion on the Pacific trucks family and other similar trucks with such lower power to weight ratio? Should they be buffed to compensate or is downgrading tires the way to go? It just sounds a little unfair that this thing can get out performed by smaller trucks.
    Oh also... what's the name of this test map on the mod site?

    • @NProvince
      @NProvince  3 місяці тому

      I do think the Pacific trucks should be helped out some for sure, but not too much. As of now, downgrading tires is the way to go and it’s actually feels good in practice. Also the test map is private that a friend owns. On previous streams of season 13 you’ll see me use the P-12 with all terrain tires and have a lot of success. It may lose a tad mud performance but it helps with pulling quite a bit

    So I was messing with this the other day, in a situation where the P12 hauling two loads of medium logs got axle freeze. I edited the torque of the truck (gave it about %40 more) and tried again, the same thing happened. Next I doubled the torque and attempted the same test and it STILL happened. With double the torque the thing probably would have had a higher power to weight than anything else in the game so there is still something I am not understanding. Also do you know what the Angular Velocity delta is representing? I see in the game files a parameter with the engines called "MaxDeltaAngVel" but from what I have seen it is set to .01 for every engine and I am not sure what it does. The P12 specifically behaves like the clutch is let out too soon or something.

    • @NProvince
      @NProvince  11 місяців тому +1

      Hmm that is really crazy information there. So to my limited knowledge the angular velocity is essentially a wheel speed and with that speed is a torque value. Im sure you already know that so with low gears the aim is to try and stay at 100% or max speed in that gear to achieve the best torque from that setting. Seeing that 40% more power still stalled... Is kinda wild!

      3 metal beams and with a trailer? Keep in mind that this is not just a blind fix. It’s situational and also consider that this method was using an extended fuel tank with no trailer. If you were hauling with a trailer as well keep in mind that you’re also carrying much more weight with a trailer and that trailer creates a lot of drag as well.

Most success I've had was trying to daisy chain 2 trucks together so that the first one gets pushed over that one spot, and then the first one pulls the other one over.

    This is nice, but are you really going to risk this knowing you will probably be stuck just ahead in a puddle because you have less grip? Still, nice info.

    • @NProvince
      @NProvince  11 місяців тому +2

      Actually I doubt you’ll be stuck in a puddle. There isn’t much loss in mud. Also using the JAT ATHDs are wider so therefore you don’t sink as much. Also I’ve went though some really bad conditions with highway tires and difflock. I showed this technique on my randomizer playthrough with the fleetstar (on the yt channel).

    It's simple, bigger or better wheels and you need more torque to move it... This is what I don't like about Snowrunner. L should have more torque, not H. L- the most, L+ a little less, but still more than Auto or H. You could also check H, there is much more torque there.

    • @NProvince
      @NProvince  11 місяців тому +1

      I agree. So when I tried H and ran it up; it still gives way with these trucks on this one

    So, in real life, tyres don't spin perfectly with the surface. They slip, going around corners and in straight lines (accel and braking). There is an ideal ratio of slip where the tyres provide them most grip. I have no clue how well, if at all, that SR models this, but the theory checks out. You can literally have too much grip, where a vehicle, truck in this instance, is power limited.

  • @21babydew
    @21babydew 11 місяців тому +3

    If they would use a proper transmission this wouldn't happen as trucks like the Pacific's and big kenworth would have such massive gear reductions they would have more then enough power to spin the tires on that hill for a game from the spin tires series you sure can't spin the tires

    • @NProvince
      @NProvince  11 місяців тому +1

      Ya I would opt for the bonus torque to be in lower gears

    Always advocated for the 963's unique tires... As i advocate for a lot of the unique tires in game. A lot of this could be more intuitive if they just did things in a more normal fashion with other driving games (and how things actually work). My latest frustration has been the lack of properly working suspensions in the game, almost none of it works correctly. Lots of mod trucks from the "better" devs have properly working suspensions. Pure lazyness from sabre.
    Ready for another little tease? I keep dropping in here lol. Tire weight has zero effect on the ability of the truck to move under its own power unlike an external load or body. Should try some tires that weigh 50,000kg each... :P
    The devs use this to artificially handicap or buff trucks depending on tire set access. The above case is a bit extreme and doesnt work great on deep mud, but its funny on hard surfaces.

    • @NProvince
      @NProvince  11 місяців тому

      So from what I have been coming to understand about wheel weights is that they have an effect on increasing the effective power just by being heavier. I've noticed this with 3 trucks in particular. Im going to make a video on this actually

    Great video (but man, those sound effects are super annoying). Having too much grip doesn't really make any sense, but the results seem to speak for themselves 🙂. Even after seeing this, I wouldn't run the All Terrains because you'd seldom be in a position where conditions like this are a factor. In the "lab conditions" here, it is clearly worth putting those tires on, but when playing the actual maps I can't see the upside of running the All Terrains. I tend to always run Offroad tires whenever possible. Thanks for posting this!
