I just watched this video a second time by using the search feature on your website. Wonderful educational piece. Answered my question that I completely forgot. Thank you.
I LOVE your Aunt Dorothy's Blue Ridge plates! So colorful and joyful. I would give anything to see how you decorate your entire table with the set. It has to be glorious! With colorful flowers in the middle of the table... with different color candles, etc.. Your Aunt Dorothy must have had a joyful, outgoing personality. These plates just SHOUT happiness and fun. :0 No wonder you use them at the holidays.
thanks for remember my Aunt Dorothy's name! yes, I love her plates. I am happy she gave them to me. My Aunt Dorothy was a lot of fun, very hardworking, busy person. Love, loved, loved her HUGE garden--I think that's why she picked flower plates when she married in the 1940s. We didn't have others to use, that's why we used them during the holidays. These plates were our "GOOD CHINA". LOL

Thank you so much for sharing this information!!! I inherited lots of jewelry, glass and pottery from my grandparents & mother-and I am 64!! My kids don't want any of it so your videos are very helpful for when I sell! Will continue to share you videos ! Thanks!!💕🇨🇦🇺🇲😷
Happy to hear you enjoy the videos! Don't forget about the grand kids! I see and hear a lot of times that they are disappointed that they are not asked. And, the kids often want the stuff later in their life. Don't you wish you had some of your parents' stuff now?
Loved the info on plates. I am interested in old plates because I have several old pieces from my grandmother's family including some Tealeaf ironstone. Your plate in the video I believe is my Lenox Brookdale. Got it 50 yrs ago when I got married. A plate I bought years ago at a flea market is one that was repaired with what looks like staples. My understanding is that broken plates were repaired like that as they were too expensive to replace. It was so fascinating I just had to buy it.
I, too, had the Lenox Brookdale China, it had a platinum rim. . I had a complete service for 12. When we had to move i found out my kids did not want it so I sent it to auction. BooHoo! I got 22.00 for all 12 place settings. I did keep all the serving pieces and will try to sell them on ebay. So sad.
@@susankling5212 Sorry to hear that! First for everyone, don't break up sets. Second, don't take your kids first reply the one to react on. Kids want stuff when the get older just like you most likely did as you got older. Third, don';t forget to ask the grandkids. Fourth, you often will get much less selling at auction as it sells to the trade.
I LOVE watching Dr. Lori! She is a fountain of knowledge on so many fascinating things. I’m also a collector and lover of antiquities and oddities, however I’ve recently been bitten by the Lu-Ray bug and I’m smitten! Thank you Dr. Lori for your wonderful videos!
I love your channel and spirit. I found you while looking for Bordallo Pinherio on UA-cam and trying to research if it’s a fake that I picked up a few tiny serving plates and a cute bowls at the thrift store because I thought they were so beautiful. I was somewhat familiar with it because it’s easy to spot and I had a few modern pieces. I cleaned it and put it on my eBay auction section and there is now a bidding war starting. I paid 1.99 for both. Turned out it was early work. I’ve been playing your videos while I do inventory and list merch for my shops. Your so informative and fun to watch. I love your channel. ❤️
I've been watching you for awhile now, you're absolutely amazing! You have no idea how much you've taught me and not just for reselling, I LOVE the history of it all!!!
@@DrLoriV Oops, and something I forgot; the humor! I love when you pick on the husbands, especially :P I need to bring mine to see you, just so you can pick on him
Hi Dr. Lori... I happened to come accross this video after "inheriting" a box of plates... now, the look of it is not really my style nor have I got space to keep it safe, however, I would love to know if it is holding any value and also, I have no clue of where to start. This video definitely gave me that... a starting point.
Thanks Dr. Lori ! Watching from Black Oak, Indiana. This will be the year to dig out my treasures obtained from a pre-auction of the contents of a home in Savanna, Illinois. This stately home, one block from the Mississippi River, was lived in by generations of statesman and I still cringe at what slipped through my hands because of my lack of knowledge back then in the 1980's. I'm sure I will reach out for your expertise in valuing these items in the future. Thanks for sharing your hard earned knowledge. Every time I watch one of your videos, I want to drop everything and go hunting to rescue more treasures to share.
I've visited homes near the Black Oak area to do appraisals. Thanks for watching. Now might be a good time to start digging at home if you've had at home orders. I can help you sort trash from treasure from photos or during a video call :)
@@DrLoriV I have been running errands for the elderly during this shut-in. You know, the Catholic guilt from grade school, where you are considered selfish if you don't put everyone's needs before your own. Lol. Have been working on that for a while now and at 68 years old I am finally determined to banish that from my life. This virus panic though, I had to make an exception for the ones I truly care about. Just to clarify, my Black Oak, is the West side of Gary, IN. We were an unincorporated area akin to "Mayberry" . After the city of Gary annexed us in the 70's for the tax revenue, which was never re-invested our community, we are now home to polluting truck stops, dumps, and soon to be home to the new Hard Rock Casino Northwest Indiana. No residential quality of life is left, so time to downsize in preparation for a move. I understand there is a Black Oak in the southern part of the state also. Anyway, I have a couple semi trailers full to go through and will for sure be back in touch. Thanks!
@@kathyrhyne1772 Yes, I know about that guilt :) Nice of you to help out especially during this crisis. Your Black Oak is the Black Oak I was mentioning.
I know my mom had the Blue Ridge set, but not sure what happened to it??? I do have her Franscican ware Desert Rose set, Devenshire set and Memory ware set. I also have various other pieces from my mom, grandmother and aunt. I love having them on display...nice memories!
Excellent and informative video Dr. Lori! I have a plate and a nice size bowl that’s of a blue and white color that I purchased months ago at my local goodwill store. They look really old, but looks can be deceiving. The plate has several markings on it, but the bowl has no markings, and it has a thick bottom that’s worn and shows signs that it’s definitely been used. I use them for display only. This video has definitely educated me more. Thank you for your knowledge, and expertise! I can’t wait to see another new video.🙂

Loved it. Thank you for the tips and all the fun stories. I found some Christmas China at a thrift store last year. It was made my Mikasa. During my research I found out that pattern had only been in production for 2 years and was highly sought after. I was able to sell each place setting of 4 for $50.00 each and the 2 serving bowls for $50.00 each. The fastest $300.00 I ever made on EBay.
It is because of You and your videos that I am succeeding. You are the one who helped me to gain the knowlege and the courage to start Thrifting. I've always loved antiques and old things. When I go to a thrift shop, I often look for old collectable stuff, I just wanna own a really old item and I recently found an old looking plate, hand painted and on the back it is marked Kirklands Etruria Embassy ware England B. It's in good condition with no chips or cracks, I am not sure if it's worth much but I bought it for $5 anyway.
I just found in a box in my basement a set of teacups and dishes that belonged to my grandparents decades ago that say 'Delphine Bone China. Made in England' stamped on the bottom. Probably from the early 1980's. Wonder if they would be worth anything.

@@DrLoriV unfortunately it's done and gone. Ugh. I enjoy your knowledge.

Thanks for watching!
Thanks for watching!

Hi Dr. Lori... I happened to come accross this video after "inheriting" a box of plates... now, the look of it is not really my style nor have I got space to keep it safe, however, I would love to know if it is holding any value and also, I have no clue of where to start. This video definitely gave me that... a starting point.
Glad it was helpful! I can also look at your plates to value them.
@Dr. Lori yes please... how can I send you pictures?

Thanks Dr.
So informative! Loved it! Penn State? My alma mater!
I know my mom had the Blue Ridge set, but not sure what happened to it??? I do have her Franscican ware Desert Rose set, Devenshire set and Memory ware set. I also have various other pieces from my mom, grandmother and aunt. I love having them on display...nice memories!

Well, Dr. Lori, ya hit it outta the park again. I thank you for the info, and the fun.

Happy to hear it! You know that I can identify your bowl if you want. Don't forget to share the vid so others can enjoy :)

Thanks for the feedback on the video. Sounds like you are doing well. The finds are out there!

Happy to hear it! Don't forget to share so others can benefit too. I also look at pieces for those items you have problems identifying.
Great , you are a true researcher
I just found in a box in my basement a set of teacups and dishes that belonged to my grandparents decades ago that say 'Delphine Bone China. Made in England' stamped on the bottom. Probably from the early 1980's. Wonder if they would be worth anything.
