Thank you very much for this. It's very helpful. Do you have any advice for someone just starting to dabble in antiques (especially dinnerware etc)? The amount of knowledge needed is pretty overwhelming
Yes, absolutely, pick a pattern or maker you like and start to collect focus on on this while you expand your knowledge base. If you love the search element of collecting, if you don't make too hard a first choice, then pieces can still be found at garage and car boot sales, charity shops etc, buying from dealers or online is expensive as they have filtered all the damaged pieces and done all the leg work and research. I started collecting Furnival Quail over 30 years ago and still love it.
Have fun and good luck. Mike
Hello I have a blue willow platter with S.B&S it’s got a Phoenix bird on a crown - Do you know anything about that one? Apparently I read that Samuel barker & sons can also be confused with Sampson Bridgewater & sons
This is very true it’s easy to get the two confused as they were manufacturing similar items at around the same time . We do offer a china identification and valuation service if you need any help identifying it vintage-and-antiques.co.uk/products/china-valuation-service
P. S I’ve also made several videos guiding you through process of how to identify your china and value it you may find them helpful . More info here vintage-and-antiques.co.uk/pages/identify-my-china-pattern
And. vintage-and-antiques.co.uk/pages/how-do-i-value-my-china
Ps I think it’s more likely to be Samuel Barker and Son if there is a phoenix on it
As the title mentioned value.. It would have been nice to hear your informed perceived values....
