Any time one of my mom’s dishes chips or has damage she uses it as a saucer under a houseplant! That way you can still enjoy the pattern & put it to use, and your plants look so fancy.
This beautiful china couldn't have gone to a better home, that would appreciate it more. I love seeing it set for tea, for your young family. I have never forgotten the time we were invited to a older widow home after church for lunch. When we arrived, her dining room table was set with crystal and fine china. My four children were 10 and under, I was having a panic attack. This kind lady said: "I have found that children always rise to the occasion and if anything is broken it is not worrisome." I was amazed how special the children felt and well behaved at the table they were. It was a great lesson.
found this... "Quebec" semi-porcelain Made in late 1800s by Ridgways, England. Ridgways was one of the English potteries, later became part of the Royal Doulton group of companies.
Hillary, the 5 piece place setting pieces that you have are the dinner plate, salad plate, bread and butter plate, and cup and saucer. The rimmed soup is also used for salad, especially if the salad plate will be used later in the meal for dessert, as is sometimes the fruit bowl, which of course, could have other responsibilities on your table! The china is beautiful and you will embed so many wonderful memories in it! Happy to see your appreciation for such a beautiful set!
I have blue and white dishes, I believe they are blue flow, we had them authenticated they now must be close to 130 years old. We ate all our holiday meals on them as kids and with my own family we have as well. Love your dishes!
Oh how gorgeous and what a find!! The smaller plates, if they are smaller than the dessert plates, are probably bread and butter plates. I would use the cracked pieces to put under house plants. Tea parties are always the greatest!!
What a gorgeous set…the smaller bowls are actually fruit bowls..I have a full set that includes these bowls as once upon a time when these were used every day as part of the main meal…it also looks to be fine bone china which is a sign of quality in an older set such as yours…the name Quebec is the pattern of china so it makes it easier to research…absolutely great find…they certainly don’t make the sets like these nowadays…🥰🇦🇺
Hilary...you could take the broken plates and put it in a bag, hit it with a hammer and break it intopieces ...then add it to a plain white vase with ceramic glue...to make a mosaic style vase for your table. OR you could start "collection of chippy dishes, then do a cement top collage of pretty pieces of china to create an outdoors patio table top.
What an exciting find! The pattern is so beautiful. I wonder what it’s history is that no one even bothered to clean it first before trying to sell it. What a good eye you have to see beyond the grime. On a totally unrelated topic. I used frozen ginger last night when I was fixing dinner. I got that tip from you. It’s been a real game-changer as I always have ginger at the ready! Blessings to you, and your family.
What a find Hilary! Such a beautiful, beautiful set of china!! It looks like something you'd ' see in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Such lovely, elegant pieces. made with such artistry and craftsmanship. Enjoy them! 💙🤍💙
I love how joyful you get when you find something beautiful and makes your heart sing. Enjoy your new china and so glad you tested for lead. Take care Hilary.
The new dishes are stunning!! It's funny how you kept walking by them and finally decided you had to have them. I can certainly understand that. They would be hard to pass up, for sure. The blue and white is lovely and your table looked so beautiful set with all the new china. My mother had the other set of china you are planning to donate so it was a nice memory to see it as well.
What an incredible find!! That is a beautiful set. The small plates are bread n butter / desert plates. I used to have a china set that was 6 piece place setting of dinner plate, salad plate, desert/bread plate, soup/pasta bowl, cup and saucer. It had quite a few serving pieces too. Round platter, oval platter, covered casserole server, gravy boat w/ attached base, round and oval serving bowls and a divided serving bowl. I gifted the whole service for 12 to my daughter a few yrs ago. It was her inheritance.
I have an obsession with dishes! I just don't have anywhere to store them all! I have a white Mikasa everyday set I love, a Fiestaware set and a set from my grandmother. I see so many I would love to buy!
Absolutely gorgeous dishes, Hilary! You could save the broken ones to make a mosaic “tile” top on an old table. There are also online sites that offer individual pieces of vintage and antique china patterns. Of course, I have no idea if this pattern is available anywhere, but wanted to mention it in case you wanted to look for other pieces - maybe even a replacement lid for that one dish. Blessings!❤️
Beautiful set! Maybe you will need an additional China cabinet! I donate my broken pieces to a local mosaic person. She also does classes and will prep your own pieces for you if you want to use them yourself.
Gorgous china. I love it. I had collections of dishes. 6 8,12,20 place settings. When my husband and I downsized I donated several entire sets. But for the sentimental sets. I kept 2, 4 place settings. But now that we are in our small house I see I have room for a new to me vintage dish set. On the look out. Wow what a treasure.
Beautiful dishes! As a young bride my mother learned the hard way never to put similar dishes or glasses in the dish washer. Over a few months, the gold rim detail around her similar dishes and the edging on crystal was washed off. It's much better to hand wash those dishes, and you could even place them in the empty dishwasher to drain and dry. She was married for more than 50 years and was always sad about her hard-learned lesson.
Wow! What a great find, the blue and white dishes are stunning. I love that you don't just display them, you use them. Your table setting looked so pretty.
Congratulations on a great find. Good for you I wasn't around or I probably would have bought it first. Beautiful and so many good pieces. There are china restorers who can repair things like the lid to your (vegetable?)tureen. Not everything is fixable of course. Enjoy it, love it, find more of it! But once this has happened to you, don't be surprised if you go looking for something else. It never ends.....
Oh Hilary! I’m so excited for you. What a spectacular set! I’ve collected vintage dishes for decades and this one is absolutely beautiful. The fact that it includes even the gravy boat and saucer is a plus. Those smaller dessert plates are also nice as bread/roll and butter plates at the upper right of the dinner plate, or for crudities servings. Many of my vintage plates sadly tested for lead, but not all. Enjoy your sweet set! 💙🤍💙
What an awesome find on the dishes!!! You should use the broken dishes as garden "art" in your beautiful gardens you have. There are many beautiful ways for you and your girls to "decorate you area! Thanks so much for sharing and have a blessed day!
I recently gave away a set of dishes that look just like the set you had in the basement. It was a lovely set and we used them for our everyday dishes. I love the new set you bought!!!!
Beautiful! I have a lid that I dropped and broke…I’m going to glue it and then attempt to cover the glued crack line with gold…paint or rub and buff…not sure yet. But want it to look like the Wabi-Sabi (I might have that wrong) theory of nothing goes to waste. I think your plate would be beautiful with that and then hang it as decor. If you do try that…please do a video so I can see how you did it. I’m not as clever as you and I bet you’d come up with the best plan. 😊
Any time one of my mom’s dishes chips or has damage she uses it as a saucer under a houseplant! That way you can still enjoy the pattern & put it to use, and your plants look so fancy.
I do the same. It's so much prettier than the plastic trays.
This beautiful china couldn't have gone to a better home, that would appreciate it more. I love seeing it set for tea, for your young family.

Amen!! They absolutely rise to the occasion and feel so special when we use our nice things 💙

My wedding China is royal doulton old country roses. Been using it for 35 years and it’s as beautiful as the day I got it!
I love vintage china. What a find! The serving pieces are just georgous! The blue and white floral is just a classic - it will never go out of style.
Just an idea: I love using old plates as garden edging in my flower bed. A fun way way to enjoy the cracked ones💕
Nice idea!!! I have a post war house and that would be authentic & fun & functional
Have you seen Nicole Northgarden's flower wash tub? Another way to use plates you can't eat on.

You used the correct word, stunning!

When you store them make sure you put coffee filters between each plate. It’s a cost effective protective tip.

So nice to see you use dishes. So many times we save pieces and never end up enjoying them ourselves.
They are beautiful. Enjoy in good health.
