  • Mark Crossfield and Dan from Torquay golf club test the new Cleveland RTX4 wedges and talk about how they feel what you can do with them and if you should be playing such a wedge. Cleveland wedges have always been popular with many golfers and their shape and design have always appealed to all standards. Are the RTX4 wedges better than what has come before and will they help you lower your scores and improve your short game.

    Was so excited when RTX4 released - I was able to get a new set of RTX3 at an insane price.

    So many people say Cleveland make great wedges... I must correct them, Cleveland make great golf clubs.....!!! I've played a full bag of Cleveland clubs for years and they're great clubs! So underrated and 'not cool' like Titleist, TM, Ping etc... Value for money is second to none... 👌🏻

    I really enjoy you two doing club reviews together. Great contrast of personalities and delivery of messages! I am playing Titleist wedges now but hope to try out Cleveland among others when I renew them. Cheers bruh! #GetUpDan

    I love watching you guys play golf together. I live in the States but I'm adding it to my bucket list to get across the water and play golf with you guys before I "kick the bucket"! :-)

    I've got a 52 degree Cleveland wedge and I love the milled finish. I think being a mid/high handicapper the milling gives me that bit more confidence to go for a full shot. Clearly it's visual thing!!! Defiantly on my list a 60 degree with little biunce to fill a gap in my bag. Great review boys 👍

    I enjoy your unbiased reviews Mark, thanks for your efforts ... question though-how do these compare to the Vokeys on full shots-in terms of distance and feel?

    Very nice looking clubs. For me buying wedges is simple - the one that feels best and allows me a consistency of distance is perfect. Mizuno s18s are fantastic for me,

    I am playing the 60 degree RTX 4.0, came from the original RTX. Love them and the shape. The sharp looking grooves inspire confidence for me.

    Love to try these however, as a left handed player they give very few options versus Titleist Vokeys which make EVERY going in LH. Too bad....

    Looks like another solid wedge by Cleveland. Like having Dan on camera and his commentary is well balanced in any review he's done so far. Wish I could qualify for the most exclusive/hilarious Muppets tour...it's a tour like no other

    What I took from this video: It doesn't matter what brand the clubs are or how many shots you take so long as you beat your mates!

    Quick question; I’m right handed, but just interested to know, why so few options in left handed? I can understand them not mass producing them because presumably it’s a smaller market, but do left handers not even have the option to have it custom made?

  • @davidabrial5328
    @davidabrial5328 5 років тому +1

    UnspinMyWedges. Nice clubs. For a begginer with a begginers set, getting one of those wedges to fill a gap is a great idea as you can start playing around swing ideas very early in your golf journey. Gives you insights into feel, better contact, shot shaping, distance control, landing zone... and it also helps full for shots.

    That toe down shot is my goto on many chips shot. I saw this technique 30 years ago from Greg Norman. For anyone struggling out there, I would highly recommend trying this toe down, choking up on the shaft, getting closer to the ball almost putting type swing chipping technique. It will really help you get some confidence back if you are searching for it as it is very difficult to not hit the ball cleanly and you can really use it from 30 yards and in for a variety of shots. I still use my 20 year old Cleveland CG12 RTG DSG Rusties as I haven't found anything better. I also want to add, that given the lack of any cavity back nature of these blade type wedges, doing this toe town technique has not much mass behind the ball so it allows you to be more aggressive and not feel that the ball is going to run away from you. If you play cavity backed type irons, the same technique, except with a PW or 9 iron, then will deliver 50% more mass behind the ball when you want one to run more - again, this is another technique that I found works very well without having to go with a 7 iron type running shot. I've taught this technique to a few players that I saw struggling with chipping and they all find almost instant improvement - especially in their confidence.

      Your very welcome - it saved me and rebuilt my confidence and I always return to it until I'm warmed up and my confidence returns. True story is I think I saved a marriage on the course 6 weeks ago when I played with this young couple and she was losing it and he was about to get a club over the head. I walked with her & showed her how to do it and a few holes later even her duffs were going half way to the hole. It is very easy to do and for most beginner to average golfers it is by far the easiest way to chip.

    It would have been good to guage the feel and outcome of how you thought these wedges compare on 50-100% shots. The shots played there are more skills challenges which are useful, but more down to you boys on the day rather than the clubs.

    Are Cleveland wedges popular on the tours? Seems like aren't as popular in golf shops or maybe not marketed in the same way as competitors

    • @Harryjones05
      @Harryjones05 5 років тому

      Very popular, probably 80% of uncontracted tour players will have a Cleveland wedge of some kind, and I'd say a lot of contracted players would use them if they could! The 588 Tour action in the 90's was the start of it, Tiger definitely used them through college and possibly at the 97 masters... 👍🏻
