In this video Rick Shiels PGA golf professional put the brand new TaylorMade Golf Milled Grind 2 wedge through its paces at The Marriott Worsley Park Golf & Country Club.
TaylorMade golf are not as well know for their wedges as brands like Titleist Vokey or Cleveland Golf but the new TaylorMade MG2 wedge has something different from most other wedges on the market.

What wedges do you play?
Some old old Vokeys. 56 and 60
I just bought a full iron/wedge set of Tommy Armour Atomics with a 60 degree tommy armour wedge

Rusty balls too I bet
Lolol
I've still got my old woods in the shed and they look like they've got a bit of dry rot. I'll give them a try.
Now rust is the latest technology? Awesome..
maybe some slick cracked grips and a mildewed bag will be next.
Finally I am ahead of the curve, I have all of that!
Jeff Dowell wouldn’t want to take a swing and accidentally penetrate your mate with your crusty shaft. Oh wait I mean rusty. 😂😂😂
Wait this isn’t a thing?
🤣🤣thats hella funny
My god ppl pay for anything if companies come out with some bullshit pr they are selling rust ffs as a premium product 😂. Perhaps it does help but I just think companies sell us on so much nonsense in all products we buy.
I bought these wedges two weeks ago after watching your review. I love them look great and preform fantastic best wedges i have ever bought. Thanks for the great reviews Rick.
I've never played golf a day in my life. Why am I watching this.
Same

Give it a try. You never know, you might fall in love with it.
You all need to be playing
Golfer or not this is a great channel. Good host
I went out and bought a wedge the following morning after watching this video. I played with it today and absolutely loved it! Talked to someone in the golf town who had seen this video also haha!
Glad to see so many videos from you lately! I'm looking at buying my first set of clubs and don't know anything about wedges yet. Going through all your old videos to see what you're using :)
So I left one of my wedges at the course and idk weather I want them to have found it or not because these wedges look amazing
Amazing video as always Sir!🙌🏼
Also this is such a great video-idea!💪🏽
Keep up the great and inspirational work!
Thanks so much!
Been waiting for this review from you forever!!!! Really nice job.
Thanks so much!
Got one of these on clearance about a month back and OMG what a wedge. Perfect amount of spin and control when paired with a decent ball. Find I don't need to carry a 60 deg now which frees up a club. Nice grip standard. I got the 56 low 8deg bounce model and find it very forgiving also as it don't dig into turf. Have already holed out twice for 🦅 from 40 and 60 yards hehe. I have officially been converted from prev only playing vokey. Can't wait to get some rust going on the face.
I had to check to make sure this wasn't an April fool's joke.....
😂
I might be buying these
man when I was younger I always played with the older wedges from the shop, the rusted ones just had a much more butter like feeling to them. they just seemed to feel right haha.
Just bought one and had hit this afternoon - amazing feel can't wait to rust it up and have a hit with it tomorrow
I have TaylorMade MG HI- Toe 58 & 62 degree wedges that are all rusted up & absolutely love them, very confident using them. I had Cleveland Wedges before that I really liked but these TaylorMade Wedges are the best ones yet!
Hey Rick! I started playing golf recently and I'd like to say you got me into golf and your vids have really helped me, thank you, keep up the great content!!!
That’s great to hear!

I think it's a great idea by TaylorMade. Would be interesting to see how the spin decreases for non rusty wedges compared to rusty wedges over time.
Great video as always rick! I love the different tests you do and unique videos that make your channel one of the best. Keep it up!
Thanks so much Alex
No question here Rick, just wanted to thank you for your consistent content and giving me ball striking confidence on the course. Great videos for a mid handicap trying to cut down his strokes! Cheers.
Thanks so much Joe!
I always wondered why manufacturers dont offer more raw or gunmetal finishes. Always liked the look and reduced glare!
💯
Ive got a rusted 56 from Callaway, I love it and it looks really cool too
I have the exact same, thought it was really old until I gave it a swing
Excellent idea by TM Golf!! Suprised as simple as that really is that it took this long for anyone to come up with. Good stuff Rick!!!
Great video - I've always liked the look of rust, and thought about testing. But that was a really nice way to show the effects of it. I thought we'd see a little more backspin with the rust, but that makes sense. They spend so much time on R & D I'm not sure how we could beat their numbers. Nice video !
Question Ric. Once the rust has developed do you envisage going through 3 balls a round? I’m seeing the finish as being akin to sandpaper and am a little concerned about damaging the ball. Thoughts?
1 ball for 18 holes is fine. I usually loss 1 per 18
That black wedge with the rusted club face looks nice.
I’ve always been a fan of the old ATV wedges. They’ve been in my bag for years!! I’ve replaced them with newer ones every year. I’ve not been a fan of the milled grind wedges. Always thought that they were a gimmick. However, I bought a 50, 56 & had a 60 made into a 62. I’ve been using them for a few weeks now and can honestly say that they are the best wedges I’ve ever had. The spin and feel is sublime.
Those drone shots over the green are gorgeous!
Have you or will you ever play in Switzerland?
Just came from the instagram live!
Love your content, you got me back into playing golf after two years of injury. So, thank you.
I actually like the rusted look all over the club, I've actually had my 60 degree for over 8 years LOL!
Love your reviews I’m considering glide 3 or mg 2 so these reviews are really help you and pls more golf with finchy.
Hi Rick,
I have just came across yours and Peters channels in the last couple of
weeks. Very enjoyable. Binged watch an awful lot.
Love the content.
Thanks Alex.
Great Content Rick. I play a 52, 56 and 60 Callaway Mac Daddy Wedges
Thanks mate!!
I rather have whole wedge finish raw, takes off glare so much and i love the dual look it gives it vs chrome wedges
I have an original 61 degree cobra trusty rusty which I still use today. I always feel that the rusting helps when in semi-rough particularly if it's wet or damp. However, the TM looks fab!!!
Good review Rick. Just bought the TM MG2 56 degree wedge. Hit some practice shots and love the feel and look of it. Cheers mate.
Love your videos Rick keep up the good work
Thank you!
are there any damages on a ball when you strike the ball with a rusted wedge?
I find you'll get little orange scuffs nothing that a towel cant take care of, my mate puts so much spin sometimes it rips the cover a little
Great video, Rick! I’m curious, do you feel the rust does any more damage to the surface of the ball, like when you cleaned the grooves of your wedge previously?
Great video Rick I watch every video and ever different video is better than the last one and you are amazing, Rick
I really love your videos. I play with Cleveland wedges, 60 and 52 degree
Thanks Carl!
Dig the video and the wedge looks cool. But Rick, did the rust help you swing the club ~6 mph faster?
OK that drone footage was awesome!!!
Amazing video as always Rick 🤙🏻

Hey rick
Just wanted to say I love the vids especially the correct way to fix things or different clubs to use in different situations, like my slice is now gone after years of trying everything even went as far as aiming way left lol 😂
So thanks for the tips also would have never thought to use a hybrid as punch out or chip and run club.
Just from watching your vids and following your drills my game went from mid 90s to mid 70s so thanks for that and keep up the good work👍😁
Cheers Rick, great reviews 👌🏼👌🏼
rick, can you compare irons from 5-10 years ago to todays irons? All your vids are informative and fun!
There is no difference
My sm4 wedges look similar to them beauts
i’m not a huge golf guy but i’m now subbed because he’s cranking out these dope videos😂😂😂
Your video of the balls landing on the green from above was outstanding!
I've played Vokey wedges for 15 years. Have to replace them every 18 months, max. But when I saw this video, I literally went out that morning and bought two. Played that PM and these are excellent - better than Vokey plus I don't have to contend with the 1,000 combinations of loft, bounce AND grind. I'm a 6 hcp, BTW. Make it simple. WHAT's THE MAGIC FORMULA TO RUST THEM UP FAST?
old tech. I still have my cobra " Rusty" by Phil Rogers
Good ole trusty rusty

Started playing again after some years off, putting a set together right now and was looking for wedges. Read about this new wedge a week ago and was waiting for your review to decide the purchase!
Rick...your have the best golf you tube channel hands downs. ALL your videos are interesting and well done. The Taylor Made wedge looks spectacular. I look forward to trying out a demo. Keep up the great work and I look forward to your next video :-)
The music in the first few minutes is a like a Wal Mart brand "Mask Off" by Future

Hi Rick!!! Can you please review the now famous VICE golf balls?? apparently are better than pv1 and tp5??? Please you are the master so please review this balls. Thanks mate.
Looks fantastic, saw this in person the other day literally 2 days after I bought my new 60* Volkey wedge. I've hit the Titleist and loved the results so accurate but this looks great! PS: I would love to play a course like that omg that ground seems so soft.
I've got 2 windows opened with Rick Shiels youtube videos. I'll watch Rick on the window on the left and go shopping for wedges on the window on the right. But I started browsing and wound up with another Rick video on the right. Just thought it was funny. Hey thanks Rick for putting this up!
Looked really nice after it had rusted . Nice contrast..
An episode idea:
Why don't you test out how much clean and proper grooves *actually* makes a difference in spin numbers!
I have these wedges and they didn't go rusty as I would always be cleaning my grooves so essentially deburring them.
Love the overhead shots of the green! I play a Nike Slingshot PW currently. Need to get me a SW though lol. Great video as always!
Rick your videos have really helped my game. Thank you for all your videos 👍

Hi Rick, love the content, what was your first ever handicap score?
Great video cool clubs
I play the Wilson staff pmp raw 56° and 60° and the tour frosted 52°. I think you should give them another test in their tour grind options. they’re only $70 US and perform amazingly well for me. I spin them way back on full shots and I even almost holed out an eagle on a island green par 4 with the 60° yesterday!
I'm looking at replacing a couple of wedges, would you recommend the raw face or hi toe wedge? Awesome videos Rick 😍🔥
Rick can you do a video on these Lazrus wedges? Claim to be premium clubs at 75% less for the price
Tyson Swain I have Lazarus and they r pieces of shit don’t buy and made in china

Sweet vid! I still game a 52deg Nike VR Pro and its got some rust on the face (and all over) and its my go to for 100-115 or even for some pitch shots! It grabs so well still after all these years!
But what is in the secret krabby patty rusty formula?
😂
White vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, and table salt in a spray bottle.
Crabs
Use water with bleach. Bleach is an oxidizer.
Ground up plankton.
Any more collaborations in the pipe line like the one with dude perfect? GM Golf? Brodie Smith? Long drive players like joe Miller?

Some nice shots in this video
Had a wedge fitting today an I have gone for this wedge in 52, it just felt nicer for me to hit this than the vokes an Jaws. If you put these an the vokes side by side they almost look like they are the same club. Size, profile, shape and everything.
I play Cleveland RTX 4 ,60,56 and 52°
Same setup except I got the rtx 3. I really like them
I love you vids I play Mackdaddy pm grind wedges
I also have a extra mizuno t11 60 wedge that is rusty
Same here. The first time I picked it up I made fun of them saying it's the ugliest wedge I had ever seen. 10 minutes later I was sold. I've had 3 in my bag for a few years now.
I'm glad you're testing pre-rust finish vs rust finish. The other vids on youtube for this club seem to have forgotten. Best club tester on youtube.
Thanks Adam!
Rusty wedges look so goooood!
For only 200 rpm, I'll stick with my md4s. I don't like the rust look, so for only 200 rpm, it's not worth it for me
Wedge grooves wear down over time; it's possible the rusty face re-rusting will keep the friction higher and let your wedges last longer.
Honestly I used to think the same way. Then I tested a raw Vokey wedge against a chrome one in WET conditions. Day and night difference.
jaconbits go buy a wedge from 1970 on eBay then for 24$. There’s a lotta rusty ones...
@@jaconbits or get a groove sharpener and use it once a year

Love your channel Rick. I use the Mack daddy forged wedges after watching the review on your channel years ago! I even bought extra now that they've been discontinued, they feel so soft
Thanks for watching!!!
Doesn’t matter what your clubs look like or what they are, as long as you shoot a good score consistently with them and are comfortable, that’s all that really matters.
Rusty wedges don’t spin more, it makes wedges feel softer and reduces glare, rust decreases spin
Love content like this!
Thanks!
You already know I’m getting these wedges u sold me awesome vid
The trouble with rust is it rubs off and re rusts eventually no face
Does the same logic not apply to wearing grooves that dont rust? With the difference being that when grooves wear nothing replaces them so spin goes down and down till you have to replace anyways? So if the end result is replacing the club in both scenarios i would rather have the one that is keeping spin numbers up throughout its life.
@@tylerg8652 it's going to take waaayyyy longer for you to get normal grooves to be smooth over the entire face than this situation. You might never get to that point to be honest
How long do you keep your wedges for anyway? If you're playing every week and practicing once a week they won't last more than a year and be effective...
I hear this all the time and I completely disagree. I have had my Vokey SM4 wedges for around 400-500 rounds of golf and I still get ~9k rpm. Maybe I was getting 12-13k spin rate when I first got them, but at this point the spin I generate is almost perfect for amateurs. I have the ability to stop the ball on longer shots and play pitch shots that bite. I will concede that chips and very short pitch shots don't stop as much as they used to, but that isn't something that screams "I need new wedges". New wedges run around $500 for a new set of 3 after shipping, and a fitting will run you an additional $50-100 depending on location. In conclusion most amateurs shouldn't even be conceptualizing on short spinning approach shots because of the difficulty to execute said shots. In the long run it is much more efficient for someone to keep wedges for 2-3 years if not longer so long as their spin rate is where they want it. Invest the ~$500 into a few lessons or a few more rounds with friends rather than new wedges every year that, realistically, don't have a massive impact on your game.
@@breakinggates I'm not talking about wearing all the way down on the grooves till there's nothing left, as yes i agree you may never get there. I'm just talking about till either club gets to a replacement point, which for typical wedges for me is a drop in spin rate more than 3000 rpm ish. So if the rust can make that a longer time period by keeping my spin numbers up by essentially "consuming" the face and re-rusting then it could be a win.
it’s mad how quick it rusts if i seen that before i would never of used it😂
whats the formula to rust it fast? just ordered these and I'd love to start off with them rusty!
The drone angle is Amazing! Would love to see the view from above the apex.
They look like great wedges. If they were $75 I would try one.....$175 not
I wonder if your beard will grow on the spot if you spray the same stuff on it? Like if you want Rick to try this in his next video.
