My original copy of FFVII had four discs. It was the Platinum Edition and the extra was a demo disc for FFVIII. Then later on I received FFVIII for a birthday disguised in a generic alarm clock box. I completely lost it once I discovered what it actually was. Fond childhood memories. The FF trilogy on Playstation will forever hold a special place in my heart.
I'm Italian and I bought the game during a tour in France because I thought:" damn, a 4cds game! I have to get it". The game was obviously in French and, even if I could understand 1 word out of 3, I managed to enjoy and finish the game 🤣🤣
The reason is the time it was released. At that time it was in the same time a milestone was met in video game history. Those born in 1977 to 1981 experienced the revolution of gaming. And I'm willing to bet most people who are even watching this were born during that time. In 1985 the release of Nintendo signified the start of elementary school. Super Nintendo in 91 was middle education, and 64/Playstation was higher education prior to college. That was peak "coming of age" for gamers and when life was about the advancement of games. It also peaked the next year's following to go to college for computer science statistically speaking. This game came out right at that golden time. And it created a new playing genre of open world exploration mixed with amazing visuals and cut scenes.
Fun fact about holy: while there is no holy materia, there is the alexander summon, which is holy elemental. Moreover, you can combine it with an elemental materia on your weapon to deal holy damage with every hit. Oddly enough, some enemies in the Northern Crater die instantly when hit with holy elemental attacks.

The music of the final fantasy series is amazing all of the musicians involved should infinitely take pride in their work this also goes for most if not all square games.
I also played FF7 for the first million times on pc only. Playing through it for the first time on PS1 was definitely an experience. As great as the Original soundtrack is...I do sometimes listen to those old midi soundtracks for the nostalgia.
I remember….. being 12 and walking around town….. walking around school….. always looking for loose change so I could save up to buy FF7. It took almost 4 months but I did it. Every penny, nickel, dime I found went directly into my pocket. How happy I was when I found a quarter…. Let alone if someone gave me 1$. The work was well worth it, I fell in love with the game 😍
Just a quick note about the battle framerate you mention around 11:00 The battles ran at 15fps on both platforms, but the major difference was that the menu's themselves updated at 60fps on PS1 and were locked to 15fps (same as the battle animations) on PC, leading to a much slower, clunkier experience.
@Dawn Razor Menu's updating at 60fps have much MUCH lower input lag than menu's updating at 15fps, imaging trying to navigate Windows but every time you try to scroll to something it takes almost a full second to get there
@Dawn Razor Count yourself lucky I suppose, the reason it was even brought up in this video is because it was a major factor in the PC port of the time being the lesser version.
Not so fun fact: I spent hundreds of hours, more than I care to admit, chasing down rumors of reviving General Leo in Final Fantasy 6. So much in fact that I never cared to pursue reviving Aerith, my friends swore it was possible. Fool me once... fool me twice. 😅

Minor note (and sorry for being a pronunciation freak), but "Hama-uzu" is read as it's written. "Hama", meaning "beach", is a fairly common element in Japanese surnames; I was gonna go and find a list of people who worked on FF7 and had names with "hama" in them, but I was lazy and just went to the English Wikipedia article, which only mentions one: Shirō Hamaguchi was apparently the arranger for the 2003 piano album.
To me, Hamauzu will always be the composer of SaGa Frontier games. Those were great. What he composed for Final Fantasy, on the other hand, I like way less.
I love (almost) all things FF! Were the clips in this video from the International version? I swear I played FFVII, but I don't remember that content.
