Thank you Rex so much, you are true patriot.
nice selection of prodgys. I use the 87grain vmax in the 243 great little combo
That's quite a collection Rex. A friend of mine suggested that I check out the Federal Fusion ammo line. He told me that in flight, the bullet acted like a hollow point which has a flatter trajectory but when it hits the target it acts more like a FMJ bullet. That's what he's been using in his Ruger .308 and that I should check it out.
Does the manager at McDonald's ever get irritated at you for filming in the bathroom so much? :)
+dpeagles nah, he's english! He loves the pointiest of them, at the end..
I may have to look further on your channel page to see if there is an update on this video series. Yes the ones that made it here could and should still be on the list, but in the last 3 years there has been a surge of different bullet technologies coming to market like the ELDs/X, Sierra Game Changers, Accubond Long Range, Hornady A-Tip, etc... and also this one doesn't have the HOT caliber everyone has been riding in the 6.5s. I don't have one, but might try the 6.5 PRC in the future. I did just pick up the new Savage Model 110 Long Range Hunter with the Accufit stock in a .300 Winchester Short Mag, mostly as a longer range hunting rifle for western big game like elk, mule deer, black bear, if I ever drew a tag for a bull moose, etc... But also would be fun to shoot longer ranges at steel targets with it.
The A max 155g (308) is a great hunting round if hunting heavy cover, being frangible they break up inside the cavity and drop the deer fast compared to the standard soft point which can pass straight through and the deer running on.
Great vid!
Hey Rex I really enjoy your videos and have a lot of respect for your opinion. I have a solid 168g A -max load worked up for my 308 bolt gun and Indiana "where I live " has just legalized deer hunting with rifles for the first time this year. What do you think about the terminal performance of the a-max for large white tails.
I was shootin my 44mag rifle today at 500yds it setup like a battleship firing deep into Normandy, I smoked 2 cigs and finally the bullet hit something I just heard a cat bark, then the lights went out
195 grain Berger Elite Hunter for the 7mm magnum I watched a lot of videos and they seem to be very good on killing elk and stuff
Hi, for a 1/11 twist Sako trg-42 .300 wm, do you think the 200 gr AlcoBullet could be good ? I use Ramshot Magnum a really low combustion powder. Curently I use 190 gr SMK with the same powder.
Rex, Alco Bullets had sent me some to test a while back. I was amazed at the consistency and quality but never got them to group. Have you had any issues or know how they prefer to be loaded? Seating depth, cold or hot charges?
I am wondering about this. I can't seem to find much online about guys like you vetting these pricey bullets out.
Scheel's! Giveaway as a legit Prairie Pioneer. I remember when the Scheel's in Bismarck only took up one mall store spot....
we use use the same 195 berger I wish I knew about the 208 alco befor they are crazy we are in the same boat but the 183 gr sierra right cheaper and bc is 713 so not bad I shoot both but now I want to try them alco
The new Warner Tool Flatline solids look very promising.
I love the 300 Win Mag, but the question of barrel life is always looming in my mind.
Unless you burn a lot of powder, you won't wear it out in your life. If you can afford to burn it out, you can afford a new barrel.
Rex there is a whole mess of new 6mm in this year of our lord 2021. Do you have any faves or insight on which ones might stick around. I like the ARC but i'm not sure its much of an improvement over the grendel. I hear amazing things about the 6 GT.... ?????? Can you sling us a 6mm Rex update?
Do you use a custom seating stem when reloading those Alco bullets? Seems like that tip would be quite easily damaged otherwise.
Hi Rex, I'm working my way through your sniper 101 series (up to part 38). I like all your information that allows us to select based on our particular situation. I'm interested in setting up a 800 m riffle for ferrel pigs and have selected .308 win due to availability of components and a 165 gr Speer Soft Point Boat Tail (BC=0.52) (the 180 gr is significantly more expensive where I live for some reason). I note that you have Speer projectiles listed in your comments but you didn't show any Speer projectiles in the video. Is that because you are doing mainly target rather than hunting (External ballistics more important than terminal for you) or some other reason? Thanks!
I mean competitively speaking, they are everywhere, and doing really well ballistically, even medium game hunting I dare say, but I am wondering why you barely mention em? Is it cuz you have a 6mm to fit that bracket and haven't had the need to go for a 6.5 or any other reason? I'm just curious. Love the vids, specially mini series like these.. Top notch..
How would the heavier .30 Cal Alco Bullets in the 200gr, 210gr, 230gr compare to the standard .338 LM loadings by say Sierra or Nosler?
Shooting a custom Savage 30-06 ( old school ) HVY 26" Barrel 1 in 10 twist 26" long ( on my website) 208 AMAXES used to perform great out to 1,000 yds .Now out comes ELD's...not so great , shoot high and irregular. Very dissatisfied...Have you tried the Nosler 210 grain accubond with a 0.730 BC ? Powder used IMR 4350 velocity 2670 avg.
Excellent video, I wish I could call you as I have several of the same or similar bullets and would love to talk shop. Maybe on one of your podcasts you could call some of your subscribers?
w
I'm just getting into reloading, currently using nosler 50 grain varmint bullets with 25 grains of CFE223. Any thoughts on a good but cheap target bullet for just target shooting out of a milspec 6920
Would you consider selling thumb drives containing all your sniper 101 videos, spread sheets and other pertinent documents?
I second this question. And if you are concerned about copyright infringement, you could title it something to do with conservation efforts and try to sell it on Google Play. I'd rather buy a thumb drive from you, though.
I will also buy one.
Hey Uncle Rex . what your word on brass jacketed or brass cnc projectiles. ? Do you think its bad for the barrel life ?
Hey REX.
I'm Buying a new rifle and i am in a crossroads between two
calibers, witch are the 6.5 creed and the 7mm rem mag, i have looked at
different calibers but most other calibers are not in factory rifles
for example the 7mm practical. i have a price range of $2500. i already have a good scope so just looking at the rifle. The rifle
i had in mind was a tikka t3x varmite stainless with a KRG X-Ray
Chassis. i will be mostly hunting but i would also like to be
competition shooting as well, but this rifle will be more focused at hunting than target
shooting. i will be shooting at maximum ranges of 500m to 1500m for
target shooting and for hunting i will be shooting at ranges of 300 to
800m. if you could give me your opinion on these options that would be a
massive help for me thanks.
Great series! Too bad Alco and Nosler don't offer anything for 300wm.
Rex, have you checked out Flat Line Bullets?
Just wondering Rex, How does a 8mm Mauser do at long ranges ?
I have been working with 30-06 for a mid to long range (around 700 yd.) and I recently swapped out the barrel to make it a 338-06. I am using 225 gr Accubond bullets for elk. The minimum velocity is 1800 fps, which is only about 500 yds. Any suggestions on extending my range? I am also disappointed that there are no Accubond Long Range in the 338 cal. Is there any other hunting bullets that have a good BC and low minimum velocity?
Wondering how the alco bullets function out of ar10 platform.
This guy can shoot
the Hornady SST 139grn max powder load is awesome in my rifle 1inch group at 300 yrds with 15 min to let the bitch cool down between shots lol damn pencil barrels .
Horandy SXT 110 grainers in 6.8 SPC II gives me 1/4" at 100 yards.
Rex, why no 6.5 in your line ups? I mean, competetive
Hahah give them a shot. I get it
I have a 7mm Mauser (7x57). Wanted your opinion of what is better for hunting, the Nosler Accubond in 140 grain or the Hornady SST in 140 grain? thanks
Psss which one groups better... which one can you get? In my 6mm rem, NO hornaday groups worth a darn, but 100 grain partitions 1 moa, but, hard to find.
Can I adopt you as my uncle?
Have you had a chance to play with the Hornady ELD line?
Hey Rex you may want to check my video where I found how a Sierra bullet had 389 fps more than a same size Speer bullet with the same powder charge
Weird stuff but to even get close to 50fps less than the same size Sierra bullets I have to load two more grains of powder for the Speer bullet to make that happen
Also found the Speer Grand Slams were measured at .2835 diameters and did not have that velocity problem like the other Speer bullets that measured .284
I would suppose if no one knew and never chronographed their loads then they are being set up for a failure with Speer bullets going 389 fps slower than Sierra bullets
WHAT TWIST RATE DO U HAVE FOR THE 195 GN 7MM
have you been able to confirm the B.C. of the alco bullets? Hard to believe such an improvement. and it wouldn't be the first time that someone exaggerated their own performance.
That's what she said.
It may be due to irregularities in g1 BC models. Intuition tells me they'd still be superior, but to what degree is up in the air i'd be afraid.
Rex, have you personally fired the Alco bullets? I am wondering if they actually hold up to their advertised B.C.
Anyone who is reading this I need help. I just switched out my vortex pst ffp out for a Burris xtr ii on my ruger precision rifle. I cannot get the center of the src mil reticle to focus. No matter how hard I try when I get into shooting position before I'm ready to break the shot it just disappears. No I'm not an idiot. Yes I've messed with the parallax, ocular, and eye relief. I've owned FFP scopes but I've never had this issue. It was so bad I could not even get the new scope zeroed properly at 100 yards
Rex can we use 7.62 NATO with our 308 win ?? Cuz I watched a video and guy was claiming 7.62 NATO has much more pressure so 7.62 nato damaged his bolt needle.
yes, yes you can. Factory 308 carts to OLD 7.62 chambers COULD be a cause for concern.
7.62 NATO has about 2400 ft-lbs of energy, a walmart .308 win has about 2,700 ft-lbs of energy and match grade .308 go up to 3,000 ft-lbs of energy, now the opposite is true for 5.56 NATO has a higher case pressure then .223 rem
Have you looked at the new Warner flatlines?
csiguntrainer I should have read the comments before I asked, lol! I'm really interested in his opinion. I think I know his answer though since his main application is combat/hunting.
7mm08 or 6.5?
.308 Alco 175s out of a 16.5" barrel at 2425fps: Mach 1.000 at 1,168m (on JBM default settings). A "One-Klick Scout Rifle"?
+GM4ThePeople would that be feasable in a 20 inch, 1in10 twist barrel??? id love to try
8meals
Sure, the extra 4 inches of barrel will only give you more velocity. Guessing at say ~2545fps out of such a barrel, JBM (on default settings) calculates the .308 Alco 175gr is Mach 1.000 at 1247m.
Better make that a "Three-Quarter Mile Scout Rifle". ;) GL & let us know how it works out.
Finally.... some numbers for these bullets.
Have you confirmed the BC of the Alco? Seems to good to be true, why haven't other manufacturers used that style in the past?
AlexCell33 agreed. I have my own questions too- regarding using the 30 cal bullets for a 300blk. Especially the 155gr for both hunting or tactical purposes. Seems like the added range would be unbelievable. Not to mention the heavier rounds used with a can. What the hell am I missing here?!?!?
a blk would not be able to use such a long bullet. it would not fit in te magazine and if it did it would take up all the powder space...... plus the force applied to the tip when chambering them in a semi might screw up the tips....
Hi Rex, i have a 24 inches barrel 1 on 10 Twist 243 X-Bolt With a GRS Stock. What would be the best for looonnng range for me? I mean looonnng range. Bout 1000 Meters... Thx in advance. From France Phil.
You should watch Rex's video on Trom bullets, and a 2k meter shot with a .308. Crazy stuff! 1k meters for him is a beginners class.
Has anyone actually verified the G1BC of the Alcos? See mixed reviews on them.
I cannot find enough info on them. It's driving me mad. I've got two boxes of 5he .308 175 gr, and have yet to purchase the loading die sets for this set-up due to the investment cost. If they were proven, I'd be ok dropping a few grand on this project. I just can't find enough info to verify performance.
What do you think of all copper bullets?
ATF determined whether a bullet is armor piercing based solely on the materials and construction of the bullet, not the terminal ballistics or its armor piercing capability.
Love them. They punch hard.
What do you think about 6.5 creedmor?
Lance L get a .260 Rem or bigger, 6.5 needmore isnt worth it unless you are shooting steel
6.5 Creedmoor is great for hunting, and now that Lupa just release their brass for 6.5 Creedmoor it will be identical to .260.
@@JPEBeard hunting what ?
Cape Buffalo I Suppose.
@@H43339 Sorry but I don't hunt in Africa! So I can't comment on that. I would say anything not exotic in North America!
@@JPEBeard 6.5 cm
maybe good for Brown Bear, a proven long range stopper right ?
with 300 win mag how would the a-max hold up for long range
A-Max are similar to Sierra MK in same weight class... generally speaking.
they seem to be very good, some claim issues with tip deformation, but they fly excellent for me, the change is to the uld's now which are supposed to have the better tip. The berger 210 are also very good.
It's just the tip?
From what I've gathered. It's said as accelerated the plastic actually melts and can cause non uniform flight issues, but it's kind of straining at gnats....
TiborasaurusRex thank you. I'll still with Sierra then
Rex. Just curious if you've heard of Chinchaga Bullets?
What, no Juggernaut? Really? C'mon. Are any of these besides the Juggernaut transonic stable?
i cant get it to work
nevermind
why not make a solid aluminum bullet ?
because on 9\11 two aluminum plains going just 500 mph cut threw 6 inches of structural carbon steel like butter .even all way out to the wing tip .
if that's true a bullet of aluminum going 1700 ft a second should slice threw tank armor easily .
:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D
Brandon Blount they didn't cut threw, they crushed and deformed and that was with 120 tons behind it. And planes are made with GLARE which has different properties than a plain aluminum alloy
yuuuuuh 1sssssssttttttaaaaaaa
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUCKERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hahahahahah
Obviously .308, btw
It is too round on the top. It needs to be pointy. Round is not scary. Pointy is scary.
