I've watched Jeff for years, he's a master. It's great of you to show off his skills and help get him work and views. It's so nice when us youtubers work together and help each other out
Jeff is GREAT! I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and I ship my stuff to him. He replaced the bulbs in my digital climate control and they turned out great. Speed -0- Tach in Concord, now out of business, wanted to rape me on the price. Glad I found Jeff and he is very reasonable and competitive in price.
OMG.! Thank you, Jimmy, I am glad that I found you. This's what I have been waiting> Someone talking about the Cluster. This part is not cheap. I have been replaced 3 times of the used parts from 3 different repair shop. For total 3 times replacement, I paid over $2000 but still the same problem. I am going to contact if he can fix or rebuild them.
I've seen his videos too. It's how I replaced my fuel gauge. Turns out it's the sender in the tank causing the issue. I'll be making a video on that soon.
My PRND2L and odometer have gone dim have gone dim. I thought it was my eyes. What a pain it was driving across country towing a heavy trailer, trying to check what gear I was in. Looks like I've got work to do. This was a good one Jimmy, well done.
I'm always impressed by circuitry repairs like this (laptop motherboards, etc). Wish I knew where to start with learning about the circuitry craft. Electronics are the more challenging part of auto repair IMO. I know where to go if my clusters ever go nuts, but I drive Lexus/Toyota. I think their electronics might be a little more reliable than GM's electronics, based on what I've heard about GMs.
Just re soldered my 2004 Sierra instrument cluster last weekend. 30 minute job. Never done it before. Or anything like it. Had 5 resistors about to fall off. I reflowed every component.
You know what I like to do when I am removing my instrument panel is put some blue painter's tape over the top of the steering column near the instruments. That way it will protect it from getting scraped by the plastic edge of the instrument panel as you work the panel out.
Nice video Jimmy, very informative and this Jeff guy really looks to know his stuff.. I know your a GM guy but GM has a running tab of electronic problems and issues. That’s why Jeff will never run out of work.. Hopefully GM has improved over the years but don’t hold your breath.. It’s nice to know that there is a guy out there like Jeff to help out the GM owners and I’m sure the other manufactures have some issues also.
my 03 yukon denali gauge cluster failed 2 times, first time we brought to your dealer to replace gauge stepper motors. second time the gear indicator screen went out and i was able to take it apart and redo the resistor sauter and fix it. hardest part is getting the needles to realign properly.
I was able to find a instrument cluster for my silverado from the pull-a-part for $40. It works but I kept the original so I can get it repaired for a backup.
I don't know if they are just always grabbed before I get there or if the wrench a part pulls them and all the other yards want like 80% of retail of new ok it's probably not that high but I remember a friend got a transfer case for like $750
I was able to fix my PRNDL display error myself by resoldering the board a couple years back...I was gonna spend the time fixing the 1 stepper motor and the couple leds that were out...but I figured I would just spend that time and energy on a digital dash....
That's way cool!! Helluva talent too. 👌 I had a '97 Dodge Grand Caravan that started having issues with the gauge cluster too. I replaced it with a junkyard unit since I wasn't planning on staying with that vehicle for long anyway. I'd definitely give him a shout if I had to. Great video Jimmy!! 👌
Man I had the mileage indicator go out & rear view mirror go out...I found a guy where I live & he did what your guy did for me...I can use souder iron, but this requires someone with years of experience to do these clusters.
I had a 2003 Buick Century a few years ago and the gear shift indicator in the cluster was out. I went to a G M dealer to have it fixed. They told me I had to take the car to an electronics shop it have it done . It was going to cost me $495.00 plus tax. I went home and checked on you tube and I found out what the problem was.. I needed 3 little I think they're called resisters. I went to an electronics store and bought a package of 4 for just over $2.00 with the tax. On you tube they showed how to do everything. 3/4 hour and just over $2.00 all was working good. I replace 4 stepper motors on my Pontiac Montana in less than 2 hours. I bought 6 stepper motors, soldering iron, solder for less than $45.00. At the dealers they wanted $42.00 plus tax for each stepper motor.
Another temporary fix is if you have a OBD2 reader you can download apps that can display gauges on your phone or tablet through Bluetooth. works great
Loved the video Jimmy, Jeff is a true craftsman at his trade, his cats are pretty cool also. Speaking of cats, Shawn Woods is the master of mice and several other rodents on UA-cam
Funny because im trying to fix mine. It acted up after replacing the bulbs, now with oem my speedo doesn't work. Im going to check my aftermarket radio first.
No knock on Jeff, but you can really do this stuff yourself. I did my Silverado cluster about 6 years ago. The parts are available on Ebay. Before that my temporary fix was to start then stop the car, it would move the MPH back down about 5 MPH per start until it was back down to zero, but of course a few days later, it would say I'm going 56 when I'm standing still. New motors fixed it.
I wonder if Jeff can take a look at my car's instrument cluster. 1998 Honda Accord the lcd display for the odometer is not readable. I'll have to contact him.
Well, if he's the original owner, that's surprising ( unless it's only got 20 or 30k on the Odo). But if not the original owner, then I'm sure it's been rebuilt or replaced sometime in the past. Those of us familiar with these IPC's know it's not a matter of if, but when they are going to fail. Jeff is certainly up to the task for repairing virtually any of these GM (& some others) Instrument clusters.

Fixed my own in my 2003 Tahoe and even added the trans temp.
Works great 5 years later. Very easy fix.
I was hooked when he repaired a burnt cluster

Jeff really made that look easy....
Jeff is certainly the man for the job. I've seen him fix many gauge clusters that other gauge "repair shops" deemed unfixable.

It comes down to the individuals ability. Some people can jump in and do great while others just cause further damage.

Those resistors also have power flowing through them that controls all the power in the cluster. If enough of them fail the entire display will die

How is your rough country lift kit on the suburban holding up? Regrets?
36k and the technology fails, It's a damn shame.
Most so a time issue rather than a usage issue. The hot cold cycle beats these to death.
Gotta replace a couple of bulbs on my cluster.
my 2004 Tahoe, can barely see the PRND321 because its dim, will your band-aid reset brighten the readout?
What was the cost if you don't mind me asking. And about how long did it take for the whe process ?
Very professional rebuild - but the speedometer needle is still off.
Are you supposed to use Dielectric grease on the plugs?
Great video. I agree with you send it out let a professional rebuild it.
And usually whats an estimated cost of his repairs-rebuilts?
The bulbs need to be soldiered?

his PRNDL was dead too... all worked when done. I think the PRNDL was a dirty contact and a light. I don't remember...

My 97 GMC Sierra cluster wasn't that complicated. Just don't put LEDs in it.

How much did Jimmy charge?
Dirk???is that you bro?
I sent my cluster to Dr. speedometer. It's the only thing he does for a living.
