Just wanted to throw this out there, I happened to stumble across this video late one night last year. It has taken me on a journey I never saw coming. I enrolled in a training program, purchased the equipment, and quite my full-time job in an industry I had been in for 28 years! I now own and operate my own coating business with my son. We are having an absolute blast and making good money! Thank you for posting this video and inspiring me to take that leap of faith, it was absolutely scary to step away from the security of a weekly paycheck, but it has been WELL worth it!
@@ryanreviews1741 I just would have thought it would be a hard sell at that price point? It's not a high priority in how people spend their money right? Most concrete cracks are non structural so a coating is usually for aesthetic reasons only was my understanding?
I think it probably does fall into aesthetics for sure, I did construction and we frequently did bathroom remodels. People would take their perfectly good functional bathroom and wanted to completely change the look or update it, much like how the concrete here serves its purpose and the cracks aren’t structural people may just want an updated look and to have it look nicer. In terms of selling it I think people can be talked into buying just about anything if they’re even mildly interested and if they have enough money to do so especially if you provide some type of benefit, so just telling people that your floor is going to last another 20-30 years just from having it coated then breaking it down to you’re only paying $5800 or roughly $200 per year for 30 years of worry free use of the floor I see no problem in understanding how someone could be sold on something like this.

Would you mind sharing who your business coach is? Or a good resource to find one that specializes in our industry? Do you think it's important that your coach lives in your market area? I can't find anyone around the Portland area that specializes in any kind of construction. I'm overwhelmed and need help making that plan!
wheres he finding guys for $18/hr? Ive been in the epoxy coatings business for 30 years. An $18/hr guy barely has a heartbeat or relies on a ride to work. Its tough work most guys wont work for less than $40 in the trades.
He didn’t have the equipment and got a 50% deposit!!! That’s a disaster waiting to happen and gives contractors a bad name. Do not do that! Enjoying your videos but that is a horrible example of business practices.
Min wage and cost of living is probably quite a bit higher here. $16hr min wage, which increases everything from food to products etc, along with a 10% sales tax on everything
At one point when he’s talking about the One Day Floor guy he did he’s training with. Does he say he was making $7k or $70k a month? He said the guy is operating with six trucks. I can’t imagine he said $7k but I can’t tell. Technically one crew (one truck) should be able to gross around $600k in installs per year. 6 crews (six trucks) would be insane.
Actually this business is a profitable business. Product cost is fairly inexpensive. The majority of cost is equipment which on financing is not that high monthly in comparison to monthly profit. Would not be surprised if he got bought out.
Why is it shady if you do exactly what you told the customer? We still take 50% deposits to this day to schedule a job. There is products and colored flake that has to be ordered before each job. If the customer backs out they can have their money back minus whatever was already purchased for their job
Just speaking for myself, if I put 50% down that should go towards materials for my job. If you're constantly using people's deposit for initial equipment purchases or buying inventory (for example), you run the risk of needing another project to complete the one you already agreed to. Seems akin to a pryamid scheme. That's just my perspective.
The customer isn’t a business partner of his. The customer is paying for a service which he is completing. The customer only concern is paying for the service that is needed. How is that a pyramid scheme they are not investors?
Been a flooring installer for 20 years if I ever made 36k a year Id quit...always over 100k. Dont think your figure is correct....I dont know any installer not.

This guy same thing. They went out and got the clients and sold contracts and then they worried about material and tools. Lots of smart business owners ceos will do this and the deposits they collect cover the upfront costs. It’s almost like kickstarter but you do it yourself. This is how everyone should start . Get the job first then worry about how to get it done. The battle is getting clients . Business is getting clients nothing else. Exactly! I just had to comment, i had a brother n law startup a risky business like that. He’s divorced and in prison
we do 50 percent deposit as well. we are in idaho
This is true!! Definitely have to check your local laws!!
I own a hardwood business. I don’t put a customer in my schedule w/o a 50% deposit. People want our services. Never had an issue with deposits. My reviews and recommendations makes people giving deposits a non issue.
@@Bigmike55626 I own 2 very successful construction companies, I started at the bottom. Every person that works for me has healthcare, retirement plans, and i give lots of incentives to do good work, and make more money. My guys are very good and loyal. I still get my hands dirty to help my guys out, don’t need to, but I enjoy helping others. I have always performed work before payment, even if I’m building a new home, I’ll get in about 30k worth of work before I draw. I have earned very good clients, that are like family. I think my family has been so blessed, because we want to help other’s be successful, like the big genuinely helps us.
Who is your coach can you please tell me? And how can I find ones in my area?
Yeah had a brother n law try to start a business risky like that. He’s divorced and in prison.
Yikessssss, luckily im a person of integrity!!!
@@pnwprowash1 yeah he got busted because he misunderstood labor laws. Trying to call employees subs, all good till someone gets hurt.
None of it is easy!! The barriers to start any business are ridiculous!! Crazy to have to pay the government a tax just to have employees!! Taxed to death!!
The common denominator in success here is Cory, it’s not the type of business he went into.
Thank you so much for the kind words!! The cool thing is the knowledge I’ve learned, it’s transferable to any business!!
One of you guys best videos. I learned so much. It took me a few hours to get thru this video because I kept taking notes and annotating screenshots. Thank you so much. I have a lot of work to do with expanding my business now. ❤. I was always watching these vids and thinking of switching businesses but I just need to maximize my potential in my existing business because the market is there.
Does Corey have a personal email? I had 2 quick questions and wanted to thank him personally.
you guys could pass for brothers, you look alike.
His skill set of making it entertaining for customers, not compromising on safety costs and his focus and uniqueness in marketing and most importantly market without competition
Thank you so much!! Its hard work but I love the daily challenges!!
@@pnwprowash1 Can you share the business coach service you mention?
On average a epoxy floor company makes 36k? Hard to believe
I’m assuming they were talking about an installer.
To the excellent team, first of all I would like to express my appreciation for your channel and your amazing work, you learn from every video and see that the basis is similar in every business, your questions are precise and sharp, simply a pleasure to watch. I am from Israel and I have an insurance business, I would be happy if you would bring up business owners who provide services such as insurance agents, lawyers, accountants and the like. Thanks
Couldn't he use the profits from powerwash company to fuel other company
I did initially, I almost bankrupted them both with all the mistakes in the beginning. I didn't quit, I sorted out the mess, and got them both completely separated from money to employees and software, and they both run on their own, nice and healthy!! I don't recommend though starting with them operating together. They will pull each other down at the beginning and having and understanding cashflow in and out of the biz is key to having a healthy company.
Wow he’s charging close to $10 per sq ft. That’s pretty high. Good for him
Corey, you're killing it! I love the organization, automization, all the work you've done on your processes. I've been in the polishing/coatings buisness for 12yrs, we do around $1.4M now with 10 employees, mostly polishing. You've inspired me to grow our coatings division! Would you mind sharing who your business coach is? Or a good resource to find one that specializes in our industry? Do you think it's important that your coach lives in your market area? I can't find anyone around the Portland area that specializes in any kind of construction. I'm overwhelmed and need help making that plan!
He said his coach was Lee Baker from Daton Ohio
wheres he finding guys for $18/hr? Ive been in the epoxy coatings business for 30 years. An $18/hr guy barely has a heartbeat or relies on a ride to work. Its tough work most guys wont work for less than $40 in the trades.
No where in this video does it say we hire at $18hr
I love the marketing strategy. Cat videos with an Epoxy floor in the background.
A better roller frame would be a Wooster big ben and damn these guys work messy other than that wow amazing video
He didn’t have the equipment and got a 50% deposit!!! That’s a disaster waiting to happen and gives contractors a bad name. Do not do that! Enjoying your videos but that is a horrible example of business practices.
Definitely not a technique for a newbie with no plan or discipline
That’s more than twice the cost for comparable service here locally in Colorado.
I think I stuttered there a little bit. But yes you are correct! Lee runs 5-7 trucks daily
@@pnwprowash1 sorry to interrupt, he runs that many trucks and makes 60k a month?
I’m pretty sure this company went outta business.
Actually this business is a profitable business. Product cost is fairly inexpensive. The majority of cost is equipment which on financing is not that high monthly in comparison to monthly profit. Would not be surprised if he got bought out.
@@FredVanHook Nope, business closed down. Not sold
@@11co5955 Yup he didnt make it. He used to call me for advice and couldnt handle the basics. Shame. Should have interviewed me.
17% - 20% profit !? Not impressed !
Are they permanently closed? The website is also down.
Need an answer to this
Was wondering the same thing. If it was so successful why is it closed down a year later? Sometimes the truth is stretched a little
Rebranded to CAP Concrete Coatings (formerly Concrete Coatings Northwest)
Way to go Corey!

Do you know if they sell the training videos that he made? I would be interestedz

@@pnwprowash1 ya'll should just box & call it a day. I think it was the "were you raised in a barn" comment that started it 😂
Leveraging someone's 50% down payment on equipment, etc that you need to complete the job while getting started is shady. Is this normal?
Who built your pipeline funnels and sales targeting system?
I did!
@@pnwprowash1why did you shut down?😊

‼️‼️Talk more about finances! We need to learn more about how to finance equipment, trucks, trailers, loans, insurance,Money management, Payroll, Taxes, anyone can do the labor, My dog can grind floors and prep for epoxy. we need to learn how to actually run and grow a business‼️‼️ we are NOT workers anymore we are business owners or Atleast trying to be, totally different skill set
It’s a lottttt of learning to do!! Build your org chart, budget your labor and expenses, build the marketing system, and work your way out of that org chart!
The way you finance equipment, trucks, trailers etc is by selling!
Paul, another great video! Corey's team does the powerwashing for us on the bigger homes as a prep before we paint them. They are an awesome and intelligent bunch to work with.
It's so exciting to watch the two videos you made with his companies. This guy is a genius! So many systems in place and this is the result! Had no idea their concrete divison was so successful but I'm super happy to hear they're doing great.

Its extremely hard but gotta push through!! Don't give up
I'm having my garage floors done next week
I had three estimates and he's getting $7,000 for a floor I think that's extremely high because I had three estimates done and the highest was 2700 the lowest was 1800 and in the middle was 2100 I live in Central Florida
@@movingman07 what is the square footage of your garage? He said $7k for a 1,000 square foot job. $7/sqft. Florida has a lot more competition because you can do these floors nearly year round
@@movingman07 if I were u I wouldn’t let anyone touch my floors for $1800 or $2700 at 1000sf that is just way too cheap. What will it cost you down the road. I’ve seen the ugly and horrific jobs ppl do and get for being too cheap.
It is so hard getting jobs in Florida, everyone wants to be cheap, and everyone is charging cheap just to land a job that those who will really deliver quality work can’t get paid what they’re worth.
Great Work, Love the process from start to finish.
So glad you enjoyed Best Bros Painting. It's always interesting to see the different processes it takes to do different jobs. 😀What type of painting does your company specialize in?
14 yrs ago we charged 4200 for a 2 car garage
Wow 1,800 cost vs 60,000 in revenue. The Gross Profit is insane
$1800 - $2000 is just the cost to finance the truck trailer grinders and equipment per month. Technically that’s overhead. Gross profit is in the 40-50% range. Then with that money you pay the bills and overhead and admin staff and try to squeeze out some profit
Hey Paul! My questions are do you speak Russian and are you Christian?

Do u need a contractors license to start this?
Please consult with your local business lawyers so they can walk you through the processes and the requirements needed. It varies per state. Hope this helps! ☺️
Yes
No you do not you are a small business you're not doing anything that has local state or national codes for safety so no you do not need a contractor's license. The state will lie and say you have to because they want to make that money off of you and get that authority over you - but the answer is no!
The job needs to turn out nice yes but the only battle is customer acquisition that’s pretty much what business is.
