literally 0 videos ever cover setting up the business. surely he had to talk to the town / state to et up a business. taxes? how did he set up his bank? did he do self employment? llc? license to drive the truck? it's not just buy a truck and trash cans anymore. it's 100000 hoops you have to jump through. I want to start business / sell ideas to companies but it feels impossible to even think about doing it.
Sometimes Protecting your capital is much more important than making money. Basically because if you lose your capital, making money is much harder. ''Missing the train'' vs. ''losing your money''. There are a lot of trains, but if your money is gone, it's over.
Nobody knows anything, you need to create your own process, manage risk and stick to the plan, through thick or thin ,While also continuously learning from mistakes and improving
Many overlook that banks are return-driven businesses. I don't trust keeping a large sum in a bank. Instead, I invest with guidance, enjoy the benefits, and save for retirement.
After the '08 financial crisis, I've learned not to trust corporations. Since 2020, I've been investing with a financial advisor and have had no major losses, so I'm not going back to relying solely on banks.
@@williamDonaldson432 Market behaviour can be complex and unpredictable. Mind if I ask you to recommend this particular coach to whom you have used their services?
I think it required more than just that. He also had the ability to come up to speed fast on things. Plus, he already seemed to have a lot of knowledge on the business aspect. It's easier to learn how to drive that truck than it is to learn what truck is best to get, how to finance it, etc.
Yes, but its a bit premature for a 15 day old business. A lot can happen in any business over the months and certainly over the years....hence the reason the success rate of a business is less than 5% reaching 5 years.
@@woozy607 Like most businesses I think it comes down to competition. In my city he would have to compete against the city itself. That is hard to do when every time someone moves here they don't even need to do anything but check a box to get city pickup. I even specifically told the city I was going with a private contractor and the city still signed me up with city pickups. I had to go through a bunch of red tape to get the charges removed, etc. Btw, the contractor I went with has to deal with having only 1 to 2 pickups per block, if that. Yeah, that adds up to a lot of customers but they have to drive all over the place. The guy in the video has the opposite situation. Like we see in that one clip where the competition had that one sucky pickup where they had to then back out.
That's reassuring to know working with a licensed..like Anna Dorris Arthur ,it can provide added confidence and security, I’m sure this will help the public
Tried this strategy exactly the way he did it. Although it was about 50/50 for my neighborhood being interested, the trash collection is included in our monthly property tax so there is no way to opt out of the current company. The man in this video got lucky to live in a neighborhood that does private trash collection, many places do not do this.
He is located somewhere in the West in the middle of nowhere where some of them cities are pretty but very behind on everything like 10 years so he is able to get away with until HOA gets together with a big trash company and push him out
Planning ahead can really minimize taxes! I've made a smart reinvestments, especially with some great guidance from a pro for a half year now, and it's been a game changer. I was able to reinvest my RMD strategically, and I'm now pulling in about $25k a week, despite doing very little trading myself. It's a nice cushion against financial stress. Best of luck with your RMD decisions!
A person needs to buy the truck, you have to note, in some areas such as where I live, (non-HOA) but garbage bill is funneled into my local water bill. Then garbage trucks are notoriously needy for repairs and maintenance. Then you have to pay to dump in your local garbage fill. Then Gas isn’t cheap nor free, then tires at least 1x per year gotta be changed, this business is a perfect example of right place right time to start
Yep. Many counties have monopolized this and you can't pick up or dump without county approval. Not a business than can be started in majority of US counties.
Yeah, I think most starting out in this business would have a much harder time. He was smart though and didn't consider doing it until the only other garbage company in the area started messing over their customers with ridiculous fees. Instead of him begging people to sign up with him he had them begging him. That gave him that initial revenue that I suspect most new businesses struggle with.
And monthly storage fee for the trucks. They will need constant maintance for sure. Can certainly make it work but he has been in business for 15 days. Time will tell.
I feel investors should be focusing on under-the-radar stocks, and considering the current rollercoaster nature of the stock market, Because 35% of my $270k portfolio comprises of plummeting stocks which were once revered and i don't know where to go here out of devastation
Safest approach i feel to tackle it is to diversify investments. By spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, real estate, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown
No doubt, having the right plan is invaluable, my portfolio is well-matched for every season of the market and recently hit 100% rise from early last year. I and my CFP are working on a 7 figure ballpark goal, tho this could take till Q3 2024.
I just googled her and I'm really impressed with her credentials; I reached out to her since I need all the assistance I can get. I just scheduled a caII.
This is awesome. As someone who worked as a tech for Waste management you are going to go tires a lot especially if you drive the truck into the land fill instead of a tipping area. Also you need to find a mechanic who has waste experience or get really good at turning wrenches yourself. I hope you have a few down days that you can go over and work on the truck. Make sure you keep up on maintenance otherwise it will show its ugly head one way or another.
As a mechanic/business owner I agree with this 100%, learn to change your own tires, brakes, service & simple fixes will save you a ton. Also keep it clean & be careful around it, sounds dumb but I did a head gasket on a trash truck & had a really small cut & got MRSA from it.
I worked as a mechanic for a garbage company for over 10 years, exactly my thought. We had old equipement as well, downtime is a killer and very costly. Maintenace is key.
My father in law got mad at waste management once back in the 90s. He start his own trash company called EcoTex. Took the city of Granbury Tx account from them. Ot grew so fast that IESI came in and bought them out for like 3Million dollars. He started with half ton trucks and like trailers with cages, and quickly had to buy trash trucks.
We're not too far from Granbury. Waste Management raised our trash fees to $90/barrel and started telling everyone they'd only take bulk trash once every two months, plus all trash had to be bagged. New company started up using trailers. $45/barrel plus they don't have restrictions. They got a side loader a few months in. Haven't had any problems with them and they are probably making great money now. Almost everyone in my county uses them now.
I have mad respect for this man that started and owns a trash business! I love the way you laid everything out in an easily digestable manner for a future business owner such as myself (Handyman Business)! Thank you for this wonderfully thought-out video! Well done!
Faith's unique strength lies in her realistic approach which makes her different from other brokers who often set unattainable targets and fall short in delivery.
Thanks for this real vid, Codie! Spencer is so casual in his candor about his experiences that he makes it all seem feasible actually. A thought-provoking and inspiring video!
"Shrink-flation' is the least of our worries compared to rising rents and stagnant wages, but it is an undeniable indicator of how bad our inflation has gotten. I have $100k that i like to invest in a non-retirement account, any advice on that?
Safest approach i feel to tackle it is to diversify investments. By spreading investments across different asset classes, like bonds, real estate, and international stocks, they can reduce the impact of a market meltdown.
A lot of folks downplay the role of advlsors until being burnt by their own emotions. I remember couple summers back, after my lengthy divorce, I needed a good boost to help my business stay afloat, hence I researched for licensed advisors and came across someone of utmost qualifications. She's helped grow my reserve notwithstanding inflation, from $275k to $850K
This is definitely considerable! think you could suggest any professional/advisors i can get on the phone with? i'm in dire need of proper portfolio allocation
Certainly, there are a handful of experts in the field. I've experimented with a few over the past years, but I've stuck with ‘’Aileen Gertrude Tippy” for about five years now, and her performance has been consistently impressive. She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.
We've been doing junk removal in south east Florida since 2021. It's a great business to be in! Great thing about trash/junk is that everyone has it and will always need it to some degree.
@clutterreductionjunkremoval When you pick up junk, you have to take it somewhere. They probably charge a fee associated with it correct? How much is the fee or how do you bake that into your pricing?
@@Docsamadhi disposal at transfer stations/landfill charge by weight. Varies by state to state. Trash, debris, and vegetation are the different categories. Pricing includes a mix of disposal, operation expenses, labor up to a certain time limit, and profit.
Not me. I live in the country and burn all my trash, then take the metal to recycling center. I drove a truck for a garbage business once, until I found out the company was charging a separate fee for customers who recycled, yet that truck got dumped in the same landfill as the rest of garbage. It was a scam. And for those who think burning plastic is dangerous... the landfills burn off the gas every that the trash produces underground, while leaving the rest to penatrate our soil and water. Which do you think sounds more dangerous?
I used to own an HVAC company. I bought many U-Haul style box trucks from the USPS and converted them into installation trucks. I got a 24 ft box truck with like 30K miles for $2500 or maybe $4000 from a US Gov auction. I simply paid a local mechanic, I think it was $120 or $140 to go do a vehicle inspection and test drive of it. Then flew out to CA to drive it back to AZ. I often spent more on the installation of hydraulics lifts and the company logo wraps than I did the trucks.
@@riumudamc4686before… businesses can gross multiple millions a year and net less than 100k. Farming for example. The average person does not understand equipment costs and operating expenses.
The most critical thing I see with this is that you need a really strong system in place for maintaining and repairing that truck. What do you do when the truck fails and you need someone to fix it NOW? Where do you get parts, especially hydraulics? Who's going to work on it? Etc...
As a man with a Junk removal company you are 1000 time correct. I now have several newer trucks but I started with one used truck. A box truck to be exact. Once that used truck goes down and it is inevitable in this industry what is the plan to service your customers? In this industry your truck can go down for weeks. I quickly purchased two other used trucks 8yrs ago to service more clients and to withstand rhe inevitable truck goes down. I love that he's super green and that's beautiful but there is a reality to this Industry. Lots of money lots of potential down time and lots of dump Fees, fuel, and I now have employees so there's that. Keep trashing my guy though I love to see this. ~Junk Starz~ Check me out.
This dude won in every risk along the way… every step. Great for him for sure! No one else will be as lucky and will have a ton more challenges. What a great business and story. He’s done so well.
To me he did not have as much risk. He had ppl sign up with a realistic number of participants. Then they paid into it before the service even started. He got his clientele and made it happen. Most ppl start a business and assume everyone will like what service or product without testing it first. He tested it and first made sure there was demand before he supplied, which is really what a good business should do.
I wouldn't call any of that luck and you only seen the problem and the outcome of each situation and nothing in between. That is why everything always looks easy or lucky from those who have never owned and ran a successful business. You only see "needs trash cash...obtains trash cans" - lucky. You didn't see that he called 138 different places and spent three days straight on the phone looking for trash cans to be delivered in time. Where most people would call 5 places get a "No" and say to themselves, "Whelp, we tried." I've owned three businesses and there is no such thing as luck in business.
I have as well owned multiple businesses and there is some luck involved. I’m not dismissing his hard work. Only saying as he was he had a lot of good luck along the way. Perfect storm every step from the start of the business because of the other one underperforming to lucking into the one man truck. He said himself he would have bought a two man because he didn’t know. He was lucky the one man came up first.
Until he gets a flat tire. Liability is huge in that business. As he said, his 2nd day on the job side swiping a parked car. He might break even on his first couple years in business. He said it himself, he'll only make millionaire money if someone offers to buy the business. Up until then, plan on bringing home a $50k salary with the headaches of running a business, debt, and huge liability risks.
My wife is a Property Manager on a 45 Units Apartment in Orange County, CA. They pay $18500 a month for 8 Dumpster with one pick up a week. This business is in my back pocket.
Please sir can you kindly tell your wife to connect me with a job in the USA 🇺🇸 ,am a very hardworking man from Zambia 🇿🇲 in Africa looking forward to come work in the USA...I can also do farm works like milk dair and also piggery work
As someone who has managed equipment in the past he's skipping over one massive issue that every business owner fears the most........ breakdowns! That truck specifically isn't common and most commercial equipment parts don't come from big box stores and aren't always easily sourced, found, and shipped so seeing downtimes push into 8 weeks is common. With one truck and it's out of service for 4 weeks what then? Increasing rates in these common service industries is also nearly impossible so when fuel doubles in cost you eat it, labor increases you eat it, taxes increase you eat it........and so on. My trash removal fees haven't increased in like 8 years and everyone knows how much more fuel and labor costs today! Grass isn't always greener unless the internet paints it for you:)
Dropped $15k for the truck probably. If truck breaks down that's another $15k for new truck.... Now he's $30k deep and pick up still needs to keep going. ... 😅
Pay attention to the comment from the guy who says he was a Waste management tech. Truck maintenance and repairs are the potential nightmares. That truck will be great until the day sometime breaks and you don't know how to fix it and can't find someone that can. You wind up pulling a trailer since just to keep your customers while you try and figure out how to get it fixed. But trying to be negative just saying plan for it and find someone that really knows the truck or figure out how to train yourself. I had a street sweeping business, as part of a parking lot sweeping company. Really expensive truck, really expensive repairs, hard finding someone to trust driving it. But i always said to myself if it was easy they wouldn't pay us as much as they do. Never had less than 100k cashflow after the first year. Very much liked the idea that we got a customer and they stayed for years some even stayed the whole time we owned the company.
Yup. Truck maintenance these days is crazy pricey, all the parts have 3x in price in last several years. Hourly shop labor rates way up. Few small repairs and easily wipe out all profit for the month of running the truck. Finding quality drivers helps, but also huge challenge.
@@wadevid most likely. Which isn’t an issue, as long as the service and customer service is top notch. People don’t mind paying same price, if it goes to a local, reliable family owned business.
He could probably could go ahead and get someone reputable to build him a back up Cat engine to have on standby. He just needs to work out a way to swap it in without down time, which might mean getting a back up truck from an auction or hauling a trailer.
This might stop some girls doing only Fans lol, It's sad how difficult things have become in this recessive economy. I was wondering how to utilise some money I had. I used some of it for e-commerce business, but that sank. I'm thinking of how to protect my $250K-worth stock portfolio from decline, but haven't figured which way to go.
Very difficult indeed, but when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. You have to learn and handle finances properly. you should hire a CFP to help you diversify your assets to include ETFs/index funds/mutual funds and stocks of companies with consistent cash flows. Don't go for penny stocks.
Opting for a brokerage Adviser is currently the optimal approach for navigating the market, particularly for those nearing retirement. I've been consulting with a coach for a while, and my portfolio has surged by 300% since 2022

My child has been obsessed with garbage trucks for 11 years now. I always thought engineering, but I could so see him and his buddies doing this! Sticking it to the man lol
Good morning Codie, Andrew Sanchez here . Today, I've now watched 2 of your shows, and I absolutely love the information and people's stories. But the most interesting thing is your ability to communicate with people. For this, yes, you are officially the first time EVER that I have subscribed knowingly to anyone on UA-cam. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Codie! This feels so doable! I’m with you that his wife must be a saint. I love the video and what you interview. You are so talented with getting and sharing information. I would pay a subscription monthly or per video for more of this. That may sound silly because I just watched it for free but I appreciate how much money and work and time must go into you producing such high quality media. Seriously here is some $$$$. This is worth more than any class (other than yours) or entertainment I currently pay for.
@@HaggisMuncher-69-420 how is that luck? everyone needs to get rid of trash, he saw the other company dropping the ball and did something about it. Wasn't luck lol.
Luv this interview. Always admired entrepreneurs. At 38 years old i did a career change. Now manage and fly corporate airplanes. It's never a job when you love what you do.
He basically picked up work and revenue these big company deemed too much trouble and wasted time. This is an excellent example of a great business, I am jealous. Perfect showcase for Codie's channel.
Interesting that he said his kids are not allowed to say "can't". I told my kids "can't" is not a word and repeated it as necessary. My grandfather who was a Marine Colenel in WWII in the Pacific told me and taught me there is no such word as "can't" and I believe him to this day.
What a FANTASTIC video. I guess it is true, there is "Money-in-Garbage". The pre-selling or pre-renting of bins and contracts is a major plus. Another plus is the fact that Garbage, in one form or another, will more than likely be around for a long time into the future. One downside might be the COST of dumping and if you have to dump at the competition's lot, then that entire business model could depend on the relationship you have with that company. Interesting ... many life lessons here folks. Codie and Spencer are such Natural and interesting people. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Ontario, Canada.
The content seemed interesting so i clicked. Loved it. Learned a thing or two. Really like this guys attitude, he is gonna reach places...vision & leadership, not afraid to get his hands dirty. Its that hard working spirit that is gonna help a lot. When workers see their boss doing it, its motivation. I hate it though when ppl say "i don't want my kids to work as hard as i did." That mentality is what crashed the Vanderbilt family (check out their story). Cornelius Vanderbilt was a stern hard working man with a strong work ethic. His sons worked hard as well because of him....they in turn, were easy on their children, not wanting them to be exposed to such "hard work". Such foolish ideologies led to spoilt generations who lacked discipline and strong work ethic...it was the beginning of the end. Its such a blessing when ppl recognise the efforts of parents & previous generations....and build on it. "The wise shall live off the foolish"
Love these videos. Telling stories of real people and their experiences! Question…what happens if the truck breaks. He has a week to get it repaired and back on the road. If not he loses his customers. I had to wait a month for a part to repair my Ford pick up truck. No one wants trash piling up in their yard. I wish him all the best! Thanks Codie! Keep ‘em coming.
This guy is solid. I give it to him. To be honest, I don't think I’d have the physical strength for this. I put in 20k into various assets last year and flipped into six figures within a few months and still going. I’ve always been an advocate of investing because it has been rather rewarding. I hope to attain financial freedom soon. One more thing, I always look forward to your content Codie, keep up the good work.
My colleagues had a good laugh at me when I told them I started my journey with $20k capital and how I accumulated over 6 figures within a span of 7 months. They never believed me until I pulled out my P&L. I know that learning the ins and outs of the stock market isn't for everyone, that's why personally, Jonas Herman, a certified fiduciary oversees my investments.
This is the umpteenth time I've come across appraisals of his works and I’m convinced Herman is the right guy. I just shot him a mail. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
The one thing i didnt understand (and possibly missed) he said that the neighbourhood was unhappy with previous trash company because they wanted a lot more money to hand pick up trash (which i understand as 'they had an autloader system and they declined/wanted extra money for picking the extra bags or trash that was outside of the bins') At no point did i see or hear him say how he was doing that part differently. He said he charged the same 33$/mo as the previous company, but did not say anything about the extra 30$ per picking for hand picking or him declining that or including it in the price...
That is awesome but in many places you have to deal with corrupt politicians that are working for/with your competitors to keep you from becoming successful
The next truck you get, get a right hand drive one. The automated arm is so much easier to use when you are seated over by the curb and not all the way across the truck.
Classical entrepreneurship. Identified a common problem. Solved it. I'm just surprised that the govt didn't come up with a way to threaten him with jail for being entrepreneurial.
I read years ago about a woman who started her own insurance company. She considered making it non-profit but it had to be for profit, otherwise it would have failed.
This business will truly give you freedom. Glad he was honest about his numbers and not try to inflate his numbers. Then again it would be smart to downplay it due to competition reasons
Dump fees, vehicle maintenance, vehicle depreciation, billing/bookkeeping .... those are ongoing expenses which were not talked about. This is also (at least in areas with open competition for trash pickup) a very low barrier to entry business. This can be a viable niche business in very specific circumstances, but obviously isn't for everyone. In most places trash pickup is a monopoly either run by the local government or under and exclusive agreement with a private business. An advantage of the big trucks is that the bigger the truck, the fewer unloading trips to the dump. Trash service isn't just about the pick up, but it also about the dump offload. How far is it from your service area to a legal dump site? What is the transit time, wait time and cost for each unloading?
Cant do it here in Colorado unfortunately. Waste management pretty much monopolizes all trash business 😂😂😂. Edit: Great point on talking about selling the company later on down the line. Genius
This guy is impressive, but even more so are her questions. Shows she’s worthy of me watching more of her content. Many blessings and continued growth & success to you both! ✨💖✨
Great video! I really do have a quick question. For someone with less than $10,000 to invest, How would you recommend we enter the market? I am looking study some traders and copy their strategy rather than investing myself and losing money emotionally. Whats your take on this approach?
Focus on long term investments in property, stocks, and bonds. Avoid copying, daytrading and 'chart astrology'. Diversify across different geographies, industries, and value chain stages - to reduce your risk. You can do this with ETFs, or by selecting different stocks yourself. This is the best way to invest for more than 90% of people
I successfully trade in my own portfolio, and also follow others because I'm interested in their strategies. I realized I've got better at managing the trader's strategies too. There's nothing wrong at all with having someone far more dedicated manage some of your portfolio.
Even with the right technique and assets some investors would still make more than others, as an investor, you should’ve known that by now, nothing beats experience and that’s final, personally I had to reach out to a market analyst for guidance which is how I was able to grow my account close to a million, withdraw my profit right before the correction and now I’m buying again.
How can I participate in this? I sincerely aspire to establish a secure financial future and am eager to participate. Who is the driving force behind your success?.
My first reaction was... Why would a guy leave the IT industry where he could make $300k+ per year to start a trash collection business? My second reaction was... that's so awesome!
@@angelamilliken2992 Yes... but it's easier to achieve both of those goals from within the IT industry. Apparently, he wanted to pursue a different industry and a different challenge... and I have incredible respect for that.
@@eddiemalvin As a 10 year badged IT guy, I can tell you that while I'm pulling 6 figures, hitting 300k is not at all easy. Also, you're more likely to only find such salaries in higher cost of living states and with big companies like Netflix, Google, Amazon, etc. And even then, only the cream of the crop are even getting interviews there, let alone getting hired. Even more, it depends on what branch of IT you're in. Generally, you're only going to getting over 200k if you are a senior architect or security guru.
Spencer! more revenue for you with current customers! Since you have a few days off during the week, offer your customers a small additional fee to have a once a month heavy trash pick up. My local service offers this in my town. Also they will pick up our yard waste and clippings on a weekly basis during the summer months where I live. People will pay for a good service!! Great job and a great video too! well done!
We are outside of the city, so we have always had private pick up companies. I have lived in this neighborhood since 1996. The man that picked up when I first moved here was great. he retired and sold out to Barnes. They were even better. Barnes sold out to Cards and they are horrible! There was a need for someone like Spencer to make things great again!
I don't think people understand how hard it is to expand a business rapidly. He has a good thing going and he should set a goal of adding a truck or two a year. Most cities have established companies that do refuse pickup, so breaking into that market quickly could kill his business. Also, how much research has he done on insurance. Once he has a driver he's looking at work comp insurance along with payroll taxes. Work Comp is going to run him about 2K annually per full time employee.
Saw to many small bussiness owners like this until the day they get big and it all changes. Owner of twin briges in new york was the owner of county waste and he bought these kind of owners out sold county waste off and then did it with twin bridges to casella. Twin bridges gave one full year trash removal to undercut the big companies, but then he came sold it for a bigger profit.
Great business. There will always be garbage every single day. I love the fact the guy calculated the risk and decided if he was comfortable with it, and once decided, he went in.
It isn't possible in many counties in the US. Most counties will monopolize utilities like trash pickup for the obvious reason that a low quality company might create major problems in the county.
THIS is cool, REAL work. Yes, this isn't some print on demand, drop shipping thing, or whatever. The risk is HIGH, I don't care. used bins, trash truck, shipping the bins - the wheels could come off literally at any second and dude was like "YOLO"
I am a married retired firefighter with 3 teenage kids. I’ve always worked two to three jobs and made a plan to retire when my kids hit their teenage years to be able to spend more time with my family. With this being said I also planned to stay working 1 job as a flight medic and I work 2-24 hour shifts a week. I have plans to start a business and have been thinking about a gym or thrash collection service. The problem I see is paying for health insurance since my retirement doesn’t have that benefit. How do you self employed people do it ? I do many other side hustles but it’s hard to explain everything on here. Thanks in advance for any advice.
@panama-canada margins are calculated after his payroll. The 20% is after he pays himself. Payroll is a cost and eats into profit. He is saying here after he pays himself he has 20% profit or $30k
He’s paying himself $50k in salary. Then profit -$150 (worst case scenario and $500K best case scenario ). 1 day a week, obviously more work than that.
Fantastic story! There seems to be a lot of room for disruption in trash by providing composting, recycling and other solutions as well rather than just throwing it into the dump. Of course it has to make a profit to have potential but other countries are doing it.
Problem with this is, alot of city mayors are trying to force single hauler programs for their cities and are forcing out independent companies like these :( Happening here in Jackson Michigan right now.
I remember reading a book when I was in grad school. It was written by Tom Fatjo. He had a similar problem in his neighborhood in Houston. He did local trash pickup. One thing led to another, and he ended up starting BFI, one of the largest waste management companies in the United States.
My friend started a trash business ... bought a truck, was doing well, until the truck broke down... then all hell broke loose, couldn't afford the bill to fix the truck, then lost customers ... he went bankrupt inside a year.
Thanks for continuing updates I'd rather trade the stock market as it's more profitable. I make an average of $34,500 per week even though I barely trade myself.
I’m retired firefighter with cdl who lives in a rural area but our county forced us to pay for a large trash company to pick up our trash and constantly going up in price because 50% of the customers will not pay the monthly bill!so it’s passed on to the paying customers.and yes they removed our local landfill so you can’t take your trash so you would have to use there services.but something is eventually going to have to give!when it does maybe this will be my new business venture..
Spencer rapid success in the trash business highlights the power of identifying and swiftly capitalizing on community needs. 👏 It's a brilliant example of how agile thinking and community engagement can transform a simple idea into a profitable business with significant freedom and low overhead.
So does the city pick up trash too and this is in addition to what the city already offers? How do you know what the city laws is so you don't have problems?
hmmm, most towns have a contract that picks up garbage and recycling and you pay taxes on it...they are not going to let some other person pick up trash..you still have to pay the town...

How to Start a Garbage Truck Company!.... or Why a Trash truck Company will never Fail! Use Key words
i can not stand feminist
I want to hear videos I told you that it would be very lucrative of being a collection in garbage collection or clean up.
literally 0 videos ever cover setting up the business. surely he had to talk to the town / state to et up a business. taxes? how did he set up his bank? did he do self employment? llc? license to drive the truck? it's not just buy a truck and trash cans anymore. it's 100000 hoops you have to jump through. I want to start business / sell ideas to companies but it feels impossible to even think about doing it.

This guy is the definition of not having the knowledge but having the will and taking a chance. He took the chance and came out on top. Good for him.
A lot can happen in any business over the months and certainly over the years....hence the reason the success rate of a business is less than 5% reaching 5 years.
the way he speaks and converses about the numbers with Ms. Codie tells me he has a lot of knowledge.
I just never thought there was that much money in garbage

The trash pickup is in our property taxes here, even harder to get around.
The dump isn't going to let you drop off for free. So depending on how many trips you got to go to the dump, that would cut into your profit as well.
I feel investors should be focusing on under-the-radar stocks, and considering the current rollercoaster nature of the stock market, Because 35% of my $270k portfolio comprises of plummeting stocks which were once revered and i don't know where to go here out of devastation

This is the smartest comment of all the comments ever commented... Trucks will make or break you.
Love you guys sharing these insights with each other.
As a mechanic/business owner I agree with this 100%, learn to change your own tires, brakes, service & simple fixes will save you a ton. Also keep it clean & be careful around it, sounds dumb but I did a head gasket on a trash truck & had a really small cut & got MRSA from it.
Workman’s comp is a business killer that’s why they want no drivers leaving cab

We've been doing junk removal in south east Florida since 2021. It's a great business to be in! Great thing about trash/junk is that everyone has it and will always need it to some degree.
Real question...what do fees associated with your disposal look like?
@@Docsamadhi Can you clarify what you are asking?
These are the episodes that I love, the owner is down to earth, explains everything in detail his fears, his why it was a great episode
Certified Freightliners are the best and easiest to maintain. We had 33 trucks. This is awesome! Congrats!

The most critical thing I see with this is that you need a really strong system in place for maintaining and repairing that truck. What do you do when the truck fails and you need someone to fix it NOW? Where do you get parts, especially hydraulics? Who's going to work on it? Etc...
I had a neighbor who worked for a trash company and his entire job was to fix the trucks. Seemed like they always had something that needed fixing.
Yeah and who is going to pickup the trash while its being worked on. Almost need an extra truck.
He's smart enough to buy a back up truck when time comes. If I was him I'd buy the 2nd truck the 1st yr

@@randomuser88844 probably why the other companies he replaced were charging so much more. He might have to as well at some point.

Very difficult indeed, but when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. You have to learn and handle finances properly. you should hire a CFP to help you diversify your assets to include ETFs/index funds/mutual funds and stocks of companies with consistent cash flows. Don't go for penny stocks.

Glad he's doing well.
Good luck trying this in NJ or NY.
Or Chicago. It's as if we're all aware of major centers for RICO violations yet nobody does anything about it. That needs to change.

Which “assets”???
The one thing i didnt understand (and possibly missed)
he said that the neighbourhood was unhappy with previous trash company because they wanted a lot more money to hand pick up trash (which i understand as 'they had an autloader system and they declined/wanted extra money for picking the extra bags or trash that was outside of the bins')
At no point did i see or hear him say how he was doing that part differently.

Dump fees, vehicle maintenance, vehicle depreciation, billing/bookkeeping .... those are ongoing expenses which were not talked about. This is also (at least in areas with open competition for trash pickup) a very low barrier to entry business.
Tipping fees are a huge expense that isn’t talked about. This guy isn’t just dropping off a load at the landfill for free.
Cant do it here in Colorado unfortunately. Waste management pretty much monopolizes all trash business 😂😂😂.
Edit: Great point on talking about selling the company later on down the line. Genius
Waste Management monopolizes A LOT of markets. All thanks to your state, county, and city officials.
The same thing taught about this years ago In colorado
There's nothing wrong at all with having someone far more dedicated manage some of your portfolio.
it's all about finding the right moment to take advantage of and generate colossal profit, which is why you need to do your research
I have never driven a truck to this capacity but I would totally do this for my neighborhood. Love this content.
My first reaction was... Why would a guy leave the IT industry where he could make $300k+ per year to start a trash collection business?
My second reaction was... that's so awesome!
To be an entrepreneur and become a millionaire. 😊
@@angelamilliken2992 Yes... but it's easier to achieve both of those goals from within the IT industry.
Apparently, he wanted to pursue a different industry and a different challenge... and I have incredible respect for that.
You could lose your job, but every household has trash... Job security
He said he works one day a week. Who is to say he isn't doing both?
He has a wonderfully understanding and trusting wife. I love seeing someone who takes their capital, puts it to work, and builds something successful.
Thanks for the continuous update! I am super excited about how my stock investment is going so far, making over $41k weekly is an amazing gain.
Do you invest with a professional broker? I would appreciate it if you could show me how to go about it.
Thanks to Mrs. Bruce Christelle time in my life, which had a profound impact on me.
@@PrinceWilliam-s2kWow! Kind of in shock you mentioned expert, Bruce Christelle What a coincidence!!
Life is easier when the cash keeps popping in, thanks to Bruce Christelle services. Glad she's getting the recognition she deserves
I also work 3 jobs and I'm trying to pay off my student loan for a while now,l needed an opportunity like this. Can I start with as low as $1,000?.
Spencer! more revenue for you with current customers! Since you have a few days off during the week, offer your customers a small additional fee to have a once a month heavy trash pick up. My local service offers this in my town. Also they will pick up our yard waste and clippings on a weekly basis during the summer months where I live. People will pay for a good service!! Great job and a great video too! well done!
Call the truck Big Bill 😅👏🏼
Very Inspiring thank you 🙏🏼
23:22 That man is just maintaining the right attitude. you leave that man to alone.
Can these small independent trucks or companies even compete with city owned trash and landfill locations?
Not every city provides trash service. I've lived in multiple places that don't.
Editor team needs a raise, high praise!!!
The problem with the trash business is finding drivers. Our trash and recycle pickups are late almost every week.
Great business. There will always be garbage every single day. I love the fact the guy calculated the risk and decided if he was comfortable with it, and once decided, he went in.
How do you get contracts. The city hires the trash businesses around me I don’t even think you could get a contract with residential
He should name the truck “Grime Reaper”
20% margin off $150K a year brings your take home of $30K before taxes. That’s not enough to live off of.
@panama-canada margins are calculated after his payroll. The 20% is after he pays himself. Payroll is a cost and eats into profit. He is saying here after he pays himself he has 20% profit or $30k
5:55
He’s paying himself $50k in salary. Then profit -$150 (worst case scenario and $500K best case scenario ). 1 day a week, obviously more work than that.
You don’t listen well
He is also only working 1 day a week even if it was 30k, 1 day a week is amazing
Fantastic story! There seems to be a lot of room for disruption in trash by providing composting, recycling and other solutions as well rather than just throwing it into the dump. Of course it has to make a profit to have potential but other countries are doing it.
Starting a trash business is difficult without the help from the mob. 😂😂
Tony would like to send you an offer you can’t refuse. lol
😂😂😂😂 bro
Not in Texas. But in New York, and Boston, NJ... not possible. First hand info.
Or, any city government.
This is true in Michigan! Waste Management and Priority are ran by the mob! Lol
Problem with this is, alot of city mayors are trying to force single hauler programs for their cities and are forcing out independent companies like these :(
Happening here in Jackson Michigan right now.
That’s big Bertha
said the same thing 😂
I remember reading a book when I was in grad school. It was written by Tom Fatjo. He had a similar problem in his neighborhood in Houston. He did local trash pickup. One thing led to another, and he ended up starting BFI, one of the largest waste management companies in the United States.
the garbage industry used to be largely owned by mobsters
And it was better then too
Russian mob is buying out garbage businesses now
Italians
My friend started a trash business ... bought a truck, was doing well, until the truck broke down... then all hell broke loose, couldn't afford the bill to fix the truck, then lost customers ... he went bankrupt inside a year.
Thanks for continuing updates I'd rather trade the stock market as it's more profitable. I make an average of $34,500 per week even though I barely trade myself.
I'm favoured financially, Thank you Jesus $32,000 weekly profit regardless of how bad it gets on the economy.
I make 35,000 a day
@@MahdiKnicksI make 35,500 a day
I’m retired firefighter with cdl who lives in a rural area but our county forced us to pay for a large trash company to pick up our trash and constantly going up in price because 50% of the customers will not pay the monthly bill!so it’s passed on to the paying customers.and yes they removed our local landfill so you can’t take your trash so you would have to use there services.but something is eventually going to have to give!when it does maybe this will be my new business venture..
What an incredible story! It actually brought a tear to my eyes.
Dude’s pretty chill and straight forward
This is one of the main keys to being successful in any business endeavor. It's really simple.
Find a need and fill it.
hmmm, most towns have a contract that picks up garbage and recycling and you pay taxes on it...they are not going to let some other person pick up trash..you still have to pay the town...
What about mechanical failures with the arm? I had that happen in my neighborhood with the city truck. Hopefully Spencer got that covered.
Anyone who is looking at YT for business startup, FIRSt thing you need to check is at what level is the advice aimed at-how much of an all-in investment you need to even try this "business". YT is filled with videos telling you how to make a 5 million from 1 million. sounds great ... if you have 1 million.
The second piece of wood needs a screw on the left side sticking out as a handle if you make it tight with the one on the left. But it’s not needed to do it tight. Just leave a gap for your fingers to hold it.
Depending on where you live, organized crime can be a major problem in the trash industry.
I’ve been in the waste industry for 20+ years. It’s a great industry but is capital intensive. A new ASL (automated side load) line his would be around $350k+. He needs to have a backup truck as the Condor cab is not very well supported for parts.
