I think you did a great job, brother. Awesome getting your old man involved. You definitely can save a lot of money when homemade is done right. It is always more reliable than a PetSmart plywood contraption. Great video
This may be a dumb question, but why couldn't you use 4 x 4s for the corners and the middle? I'm going to build a stand for a 125 gallon tank, wanted to use 4 x 4s with a 2 x 4 around the bottom outside as decoration then more 2x4 on inside attached to 4 x 4s for the bottom shelf to sit on, and again for the top to sit on. Will this work, or do I need to use 2 x 6s. I am also enclosing the sides with 3/4 inch plywood that has a water treatment on one side. I will use this for the doors too with the back staying pretty much open except for the middle 4 x 4s. I am then planning on using decorative tile for the front of the doors just to give it some flair. Do you think this plan will work or should I reassess?

Hi, whats your thoughts on building these stands a little bigger length and width wise so to leave say a 5mm or 10mm gap around the perimeter of the tanks resting on top of the ply wood for a little room to manoeuvre?
Hi, I am planning to have a 400l aquarium, it will be in my hallway in a cabinet. the cabinet is going to build with MDF. will that hold or should I build it with something else.
@@denisk2414 That is solid advice. I was only thinking the structural qualities of MDF, but it would absorb water like a sponge, you're totally right. Thank you!
Is having the tank rest on the frame less safe than having it rest on a full sheet of plywood on the top? I recently purchased a secondhand, very large tank that someone put two plug holes in the bottom so that it does not sit level on a flat surface. I’m trying to decide if I should somehow remove those plugs or adjust the stand accordingly. Thank you!
It’s a lot bigger than my wife was expecting 😂 still figuring out the stocking, but I do have some of it already here and some I’m about to order. But for now it’s 🤫. I think you’ll like my choices, Jeremy, but not sure

What kind of additional framework would I need for a stand that is 8’-6” long, 3’-6” tall, 2’-6” deep that will have 2 75-gallon tanks on top, however the bottom front cannot have any vertical bracing as it will have a removable PVP python enclosure. Edit: the finished top surface is going to be a butcher block slab.
I’m considering sistered 6” LVL bearing on the two front posts (6x6) complete with joist hangers for the blocking that runs front to back. There will be a center post in the rear, I just can’t have one in the front.
At least your dad helps! My father said im an idiot lmaoo. I cant wait to see what you're going to stock! Central American? Large South American??? The suspense is killing me!!
You know I don’t think that’s so much an issue if you’re running your tank perpendicular to the joists and there is enough support but it wouldn’t hurt. However, my joists are running horizontally to the length of the tank. There are so many extra joists that the space can hold 6500 lbs. However, you got me thinking and in my situation I think it’s a very good idea to have more contact points with the floor. So because of your question, I have moved the bottom cross bracing so that it touches the floor. Thanks!

One thing I’ve noticed on your tanks. Heavy ! Should you really have all those large tanks on your first level of home ? I’ve been told anything over 75 gallons needs to be in a basement or you can warp your floorboards
Where else should you put them? His tanks sit on load bearing walls and sit perpendicular to the joints so the weight is spread out. His floors have no issues. Depending where this one is going, he may have to reinforce the floor. I've had to do it to my floors in the crawl space because I don't have a basement and I have 10 tanks! A lot of old old homes were built with 2*8 floor joist that can't take the weight where as most newer homes are built with 2*10's or thicker.

However, beyond those two places, I’ll have to add extra support myself. Thanks for asking, StumpDaddy and for your help, Dennis. I appreciate you both!

If it has trim around the edges and that's where it rests, then you don't need the plywood.
