Hey Joey would you be able to go through the leveling process you use for the top of the aquarium stand? You mentioned plywood but I'd love to see your process to ensure your tank won't crack. Thanks

Your video has been very helpful for me as I go in search of a stand for a 75 gallon tank I’m getting quite soon! I’d looked at countless store bought ready made stands and didn’t really like any of them, especially after reading reviews. So I went in search of a heavy wooden table! Found a couple but didn’t know if they would be exactly suitable but based on this video the one I liked best IS quite suitable! It’s built much like that last one you showed with no center piece, except this has 4x4s for the legs! Very stout!

Have you considered having tanks in groups of 2 back to back?

    • @torvurd
      @torvurd 3 роки тому +1

That would be a cool concept if you made the two tanks with hardscapes that seem to flow from one tank into the next, but with fish that don't do well together so you can still have both.

Im 6'2" and currently i have a generic 30in metal stand sitting on 4 concrete blocks so its 16in taller. I dont completely trust this stand and would like it to be taller. Getting it level with me my biggest hurdle. Got a miter and pocket hole jig for cold plunge build. This is a great instructional!

Good video. Got a few good tips for my next build.
Although, I much prefer the "guides" to be the full height, then they directly support from the tank to the floor, with no shear loads and no connections, especially if you put a piece of ply on top to help distribute the weight more evenly.
Looking at the construction of available stands, I prefer the DIY stands not as much for the savings, but the commercially made ones are not build nearly as robustly. I think their safety factor is more like 1.1 than 4 times! I bought a used 120G with stand; looks very nice with pretty trim, but once I looked at the structure I was like never getting a commercial stand again!

Now, Nova Scotia and your new gallery is a sure goal when this happen.
But my friend! Plz do wear earprotection as well when using your powertools like the saw. I don't get it my so many Canadians and Americans UA-camrs NEVER use them building stuff. In Sweden it is a so natural thing do do.
Looking forward to see the progress...and this stand building guide was awesome!

Instead of plywood im doing 2x8 top put them together then stain and poly it all . Then add the bottom shelf. 50 long , 20 wide and 30 tall . My tank is 21 inch high by said and done my height should be around 52ish depending how thick the 2x8s are i just dont recall till i get em. This helped immensely with my thought process to tackle this way better. Awesome video. I would of liked to see more close ups. Top view its nice to see how its all tied in together than just looking a few feet back. I paused it and was able to pick out the design. Thanks so much!

    Couple questions:
    - If the stand is not level: can I simply put some shims under it to adjust?
    - Could I add legs under this? If so, anything to watch out for?
    - If I wanted to make a walnut wood casing for it, should I simply attach it to the frame directly? (screws, dominoes, glue)

Hey Joey! Love your videos and your builds; I used your build myself for my 55 gallon stand.
I have a question. I want to add a sump system to my aquarium, however, due to the center supports in your stand build I can't fit anything underneath. Would I be OK in removing those center pieces (the vertical supports) from the stand, and relying purely on the corner pieces? I figure the stand would still be supporting around 3000lbs, even with only 8 2x4s as opposed to 10. My aquarium is rimmed, so the weight is on the corners anyway.
Thanks again for the videos! It helped me get into the hobby.

Do I need to support the sides of an aquarium, would I get away with supporting front and back edge and moving side supports away from edge. I'm designing 3 tier racks for fish room, 6 inch gap, 4 inch timber. But if the supports front to back are not running along side edges of aquarium but instead pushed in 10 or so inches out would give you the full 10 inches instead of 6 at the sides of the tanks to add rocks larger than 6 inches.
