I can attest to keeping fish calms you down, i used to smoke and drink to much, then i had a heart attack at 55 luckily my son did cpr on me for half an hour and saved my life untill 3 ambulances turned up, now i have a new look on life, thanks to my aquariums. 😊
From 5 AM till about 10:30 AM every day is my time for solitude and to collect my thoughts, and contemplate my place in the universe while watching my aquarium.
Sometimes I take life changing decisions looking at my fish, and I am not even thinking about those decisions, I'm just appreciating the fish and the plants, the whole ecosystem on the aquarium, the clarity it gives to your mind...
I look forward to your videos like Saturday cartoons when I was a kid! Every week there is another quality example of your creativity. Thank you for sharing your hobby with us and posting so early so those of us on the east coast can watch with our morning coffee!
I couldn’t imagine not having a fish tank in my home. After serving twenty plus years in the military, this is by far the most relaxing thing in the world.
One of the things that I like the most about keeping aquariums is that I get to share the hobby with my boyfriend. It brings us together to find solution when there’s issues in the tank and I love spending time watching the fishes with him or cleaning tanks or road trips to different aquarium stores. We spent a lot of time also naming our fish and that’s some thing I wouldn’t trade for the world.
LMAO, OK the pineapple and Bob found a home in a box in the closet, funny my gr daughter hasn't even noticed or at least said anything lol! I enjoy all of my tanks but now my most fav is the new 90gal, and I really don't know as to why. Since watching your videos and lighting the spark again of my love for aquariums especially with the crazy "Nut Jobs" there's never a dull moment in my life. My Maingano has turned into a pure Satan killing off 5 fish, tore into my Jack Dempsy, Salvini, and a mean butt Peacock, ManMan now lives his life in the abys of a 29gal alone to think of his evil ways. Thank so much I really enjoy all of your videos and advice, yes, I still learn a lot even after many years of being in this crazy hobby.
It's so hard to imagine a Satan maingano after having Astro. You must be so jealous of my peaceful big man. So the pineapple is still in the house though, so.... Still guilty lol
I'm setting up a 75g with some EBAs and Angels in it in my living room. I'm preparing for the fall and winter months when the cold and the grayness of the days brings me down. A good sized tank with colorful fish and plants is going to be my therapy. Great video topic BTW.
I love your aquariums. They are so cool, specially Alcatraz, your aquariums are the whole reason why I want a African cichlids tank later on (not ready yet I don't know enough yet). I own a 60 gallon and I love looking at those fish, maintaining their tank, giving them new water and cleaning their mess every week, for some reason that just gives me a lot of peace and satisfaction.
That's great that you aren't jumping right in before you're ready. Lots of people don't have the wisdom to do that. Thank you so much for the kind words! Glad you enjoy all the "boring" parts of fish keeping like I do. Makes it fun 😀
I find that I limit the light time on my tanks and finally light them up 3 out of 7 days a week I just get the whole new tank feeling. And I was/am willing to commit my life to them so it’s gotta be a trade off! And it’s actually my cichlid tanks that bring me the most joy and comfort out of watching, I mean my goldfish and loaches are huge and incredible but they don’t swim like my mbuna or peacocks and haps. Ps I found a great home for my sharks! They are now a amazing and complete joy to see but I was getting worried before, so I would just say healthy fish and tanks give back the most as to dirty tanks and sick fish/ dead fish /plants just is depressing for too many reasons. Your Oscar is looking great! Great video and good idea! Fish keeping keeps me on schedule and my mind moving. And I love what you said, I’m a great fish keeper that is constantly learning! I mean someone could get a fish after keeping fish for years that they’ve never kept before and suddenly it’s brand new and back to classroom, so to speaks. Confidence makes waves and carries the load shared! Stay happy and healthy my friend!!! 😊❤
I always love your comments. That's a cool idea about skipping the light on some days. Glad you found a new home for your sharks. I'm going to be moving my true parrot into San Quentin soon, and that alone will make the tank seem brand new again. Stay well my friend!
@@CichlidCharmeralways! I did a complete swap of 3 tanks the other day after I rehomed my sharks and now even if I had them before, like your true parrot, seeing the interaction and watching each fish is almost entrancing! 😳 lol… in the process I discovered about 45 labridochromis freibergi fry 😅… so that’s another neat stop in, like dropping the kids off at the playground.
Hi David thank you for sharing. Great video like always. So cool to hear that you like photography. I used to love taking photos as well. Photo micro morphology. Thank you for sharing your beautiful aquariums with us.
Thanks, Danny. Photography was my main interest for ages, and I still love it, but I love these fish and making videos even more. Cool that you were into it as well.
Starting to think that maybe we are the nut jobs that suffer MTS, and our addiction to over feed them and stair at them for hours, talk to them maybe just maybe we’re the crazy ones. A beautiful aquarium has that feeling of accomplishment. 👍💯
I’ve been keeping fish since 1993, however the last 48h as a fish keeper needing to fix a sump plumbing issue has been the antithesis of relaxing or soothing. I do have MTS syndrome and it rules my life. I wish my kids would like it as much as me
Well thank you! I'm working on my Australian accent, because of I can master that, my subscriber count will go through the ROOF, lol. Love your country 🥰🥰
David, I loved the video and the aquariums. I had 5 aquariums of different sizes i recently condensed them down to 3. I feel 3 is the max and easy for me to maintain. I have a 100 gal CA/SA Tank and a 55 gal Community planted tank with a AC Hecklai and a Geo Steindachi growing up in there. The geos will probably stay in that tank since all i have are Rainbow fish and Congo tetras in there and a EBA oh and a Festivum Cichlid i also have. Have you heard of them they look kind of similar to an angel fish but have a more longer body. He is cool to watch swim around. The Salvini of yours is on fire she looks pretty with the yellows. I really want an Oscar fish but My tank isn't big enough at least where i feel comfortable putting one in there. I would want a 125 gal before I would consider an oscar. I know some people put oscars in 75 gals or even 90 gals. I want him to have room to swim. That would be my dream fish if I could comfortably hold one. I also have a 20 gal long planted nano fish tank. those are my three tanks. I love watching the rainbow fish swim around in the 55 gal they are pretty colors. You should get some for the angel tank. :)
Hi Jeremy! Your tanks are nice. So you like the festivum -- I have considered it, but wasn't sure. Maybe I'll dig a little deeper and see if I'd like to add one. I like those longer tanks. I also have a 20 gallon long for my quarantine tanks. Love em. I wanted an Oscar for the 180, but I still thought I wanted more room for him. Rainbows are pretty, but I don't like their disproportionately sized heads. Looks like someone Frankensteined them lol
First thing I do in the morning is sit down in front of my 180 and 75 gallon with coffee and zone out, totally relaxing. Hey, does that magnetic cleaner work on the thick glass or is it too weak?
I agree with everything when i clean my tank its the best feeling in the world i have a 125 with a 10in F1 male Midas and a 8in Female Red Terror. My only issue is i cant decorate it as i like and its pretty bare because the fish will ruin every thing 15 minutes after i clean it and rearrange everything. Right now your fish are small but when they start pushing the 10-12in range i think you will feel different about decorating
having aquarium it's awesome i started it back in 2 0 11 / I went from 10 / 36 Bow fount to 60gal now 75gal lol question do you have Any issues with females mixed in ur aquarium with the males
@CichlidCharmer oh okay well the reason I'm asking I have a 75gal show tank it's all males a african cichlids tank an I just found out I had 2 females an I didn't know it an I didn't had no issues now I'm debating I should them back cuz I'm having hard time getting rid of them they in 10gal now for 2 half months what u think I should put back ?
1. Prevents me from saving too much for retirement 😂 2. I get extra love letters from electrical companies asking why I'm using so much electricity 😂 3. I meet random strangers on the Internet and invite them over to my house to see my basement and for some reason no one seems nervous at all. They leave with a bag of fish and I get some cash! 4. My wife gets to watch shows I don't want to want and it doesn't matter because I'll just stare at the fish the whole time. 5. My septic system constantly gets flushed with large quantities of water and nitrifying bacteria. I think I'll stop there 😂.
I keep considering getting a 3rd aquarium but I fear it's gonna be too much: i have two and i clean them every saturday and sunday if only i could not doing weekly water changes 🤣

Is Crimson Tide Cichlids ok to mix with Lake Malawi Cichlids? Thanks
If I remember right, that is a Lake Victorian, which generally are okay with Malawi peas and haps, but as with all cichlids, gotta watch them.
