27:58 Liz mentioning the magnet of hate that’s harnessed towards Lizzo, a body positive, unapologetic, black woman, is the ultimate example to counter with 🙌❤

I am a teacher and used his song 'can we auto-correct humanity' for several years, to start very meaningful conversations with my studens about the effect/impact of social media. Amazing, thank you sir! ❤ hugs from The Netherlands

"I am not this body. I am not these thoughts" to recognize this at such a young age... incredible. I always liked his strong heart and videos, it was great learning more about him. Thank you.

But what does that mean? It sounds profound but I'm not convinced. I absolutely agree that we shouldn't believe everything we think but I'm also wary of Gnostic-sounding concepts. We are not just body but we ARE holistic beings; including body as well as spirit and soul.

Liz, not sure if you can be passed this message, but I really felt for you with your question to Prince EA about reframing your inner voice. Prince EA is speaking about CBT and using a lot of principles from a therapy that we call 2nd generation CBT, called ACT. (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). One concept from ACT that I would love to point out to you, to answer your question, is about how our inner critics or our negative thoughts have a real purpose. Every emotion has a purpose, at least historically (going back to cave man days) and yes, the purpose is often so that other people like you. This was *really* important in the past, (ie in caveman days you would die if other people didn't like you and booted you out of the tribe) and arguably is still important for mental health today. So the idea (they way I understand it) is not to reframe everything so that we are happy and joyful all the time, but to notice, be less 'invested' in our thoughts, (what he calls not 'being' your thoughts, being spirit and observing the thoughts like clouds), so that we are free to choose to listen to them or not from a wise mind. Yes, we live in a society where people who feel threatened will say mean things on-line because it gives them a sense of power and doesn't cost them anything. But, we also still need people to like us, I think people-pleasing is great -- another word for it might be service. However, too much, to the point where we lose track of what is healthy for us, is obviously not great. Being less attached to your thoughts helps you make a wise choice. Also recognizing that these parts of ourselves that speak up to say "But... no one would like me." etc are just looking out for us and responding with compassion is helpful. As if you're saying to a child "Oh, that's so awesome that you are concerned for me, but don't worry, I got this, I'm going to do this instead, it'll be ok." or you can choose to say back "Aw, thank you for looking out for me. that's a valid point, I can going to be concerned about this." I hope this is helpful to you or someone else reading. You guys have done so much for me with your podcast (+++!!!) and I am grateful.

The ideals kids have these days worries me. I have two teens and for the most part, they're very much their own person, but on another level you worry about their unnecessary wants being humbled by a person or life... Them thinking they need to "have" for others to appreciate.
