Did you know, I recently wrote the most comprehensive book ever written about keeping, feeding and breeding Cherry Shrimp. Check it out here neocaridina-shrimp-handbook.com
Hi Richard! I’m going through a breakup right now and I was with them for over a decade of my life and I’m not even 30 yet. Just wanted to say I appreciate the work you’re doing for us, I need some quality distractions right now and your videos are always bangers
Another great video, my 2 tanks a thriving from all your fabulous advice. Red cherry's are having babies left and right. Ive even got pregnant yellow shrimp in my other tank now too.
I have watched some great videos on Shrimp keeping but I really appreciate your style. Taking some (encouragement) refresher courses as I get back to the hobby and I so appreciate your enthusiasm and the fact that you get in, state your point, and you move forward. My best to you AND your wife.
Hi Richard. I have been keeping fish for 55 years. I have 1 tropical tank with blue jelly shrimp, amano shrimp and borus maculatus and I'm getting your book on ornamental shrimp for my 60 birthday in November. Love your videos. I too have goldfish, small fantails in a 110 litre aquarium. I keep them with Java fern, Anubis and another plant, can't remember the name on wood. Can you do a video on how you Got your goldfish and their care. They are really beautiful. Thanks 😊
0:27 🤣 Great mnemonic, very memorable. I was definitely expecting micro nutrients and such, not shrimpifying aquariums properly, but a great video nonetheless. I like how much you can move around now, you're very expressive and your enthusiasm gets contagious 😅 I noticed I had to crank my volume for this vid which rarely happens, but having your voice dominant over music is great. There were a couple moments that devilish countdown might be effective, but it'd be weird to only do it 2 or 3 out of 6 mnemonic points. Well done sir, looking forward to more excellent content from you! ❤ Esp mnemonics
Thank you for the feedback. New mics will take a few videos for me to get the levels right. I appreciate you taking the time to get in touch and for your ongoing support 🫶🏻
My first planted tank (9g long) is absolutely thriving. The water is crystal clear & is my pumpkin, cherry & black shrimp tank with a couple nerites, a mystery snail, 1 lone CPD survivor (I swear, you even look at those bastards & they die) & is a temp. holding space for 6 rummynose rasboras as well as being "horny jail" for 3 male guppies, at the moment. I take the wild type or weak-colored culls & add them to my planted guppy breeder tank as extra clean up crew. All of my tanks were started with water & detritus from the neighbor's pond & it's worked out very well. Now I'm planning a 75g nano tank with neos in that too!
I was following your system before you even gave it a name, and I can attest to its accuracy. Every morning, my wife wakes up to see more shrimp babies on the glass and yells at them to stop multiplying (actually, she uses different terminology, but we have to keep it PG for UA-cam)
I also enjoy shrimp "manicures" for bonding time. They act just like cleaner shrimp do. They're so friendly & adorable. (Don't judge - it's fun & slightly tickles. Sometimes the mystery snail comes around to rasp my fingers too.) =p
Bought your book not had time to read it yet… but just a quick one for you when doing a water change is it best to use tap water or bottle water? I’ve not tested my tap water just yet as not set the tank up, but it’s in the pipe line ready to be… I’ve had a 750 marine tank in past and found that easy ish as I worked at a aquatic shop so water was cheap and on tap 🤣🦐🦐🦐
Hi Richard! New shrimp keeper here, how long can I keep food inside the tank before taking them out? My stock is around 5 adolescent shrimp, tank is a 3 gallon tank, moderately planted and only use sponge filter. Thanks!
Hi Richard, I have Copper Beech hedges in my garden, would the leaves be suitable for using in my tanks? If yes should they be green or dropped leaves and do I need to prep them in any way? TIA xx
Richard - I live in a part of the world where there are no oak trees and no alder trees so oak leaves and alder cones are not an option unless I visit my LFS which is a 10 hour boat ride away. What I do have access to is an unlimited supply of vine leaves, fig leaves and citrus fruit leaves, orange, lemon, grapefruit etc. I'm giving serious thought to trying vine leaves, probably not the fig or citrus, just the grape vine leaves - do you have any views on this, I can't see how or why they would be a problem but I'm a bit hesitant to try it if it's going to be a problem.
@@andystokes8702 vine leaves may pretty well do the job, dry them first and to avoid stress, boil them or leave them a couple minutes in boiling water. Just add 1 and see. Cheers from France.
Great video.. I want to keep shrimp in my tank but my problem is that the temperature of my tank is 30°C(86°F) isnt it too warm for them? Do i need to buy the cooler fan for my tank so i can keep shrimp?
If you’re brand new to shrimp, I would start with some regular Red Cherry shrimp. You’ll soon find you end up with more tanks of different coloured shrimp 😂
what do i feed my shrimp other than rotting cattapa leaves and oase organix shrimp food they never seem to swarm it like other peoples shrimp do and i just want to give them something they look like they actually enjoy
Try them with a floret of boiled broccoli. My shrimp go for that more than any other food I have tried. For me it is the best food, high in calcium too. It seems to be better than anything else and the best part is that it costs virtually nothing and I can pick it up at any grocery store. Cucumber is also a big hit but broccoli wins the gold.
Question, I’ve heard some people have their fish die because of the botanicals. I was planning to get 3 cholla wood pieces and alder cones for a 8 gallon shrimp tank (that I’ve yet to set up) Maybe I was going to cover them in hot water for a couple days but i do want to keep the tannins, should I do it?
Hi, maybe some one can help me. I got some planaria, not that much. I read temperature at 30c + will kill them? Is this true and will my shrimp survive it? Getting to 31 and letting ut drop again

Hang in there, mate. ❤
🙏🏻💪🏻
Head up mate , make sure you learn, take accountability and remember that you are not perfect. You will be alright and turn to Jesus
it's going to be all right. Plenty of fish in the sea.
You’re still breathing! Stay bless and don’t let it down you 🫶🏽

Trying to teach myself absolutely everything before trying to start my first tank. Can't wait to sit and enjoy my shrimps :]
You will enjoy them. I used to watch them for hours and I am looking forward to doing that again.
If you could make that journal into an app, that would be amazing.
But for now, I'm buying that journal. 😊

I love "S"! I have a magnifying glass next to my shrimp tank so I can see the tiny babies.

Hi ~ Black Molly will eat red shrimp ? If i put them together in the 10 gallon tank. Thanks, THX
Probably yes, but if you provide enough cover and hiding places the shrimp will have a better chance. 👍🏻

Are digital ph meters / ppm meters good for testing water? I usually see people using test strips or kits.
How do u get rid of tiny snails 🤔
You could add some loaches, like the Yo-yo Loach or Botia sidthimunki (Dwarf Loach I think 🤔)

I cant keep cherry shrimps for more than 1 or 2 molt cycles. Funny enough, I've kept the same group of amano shrimps for years now.
