You posted this 5 years ago and it's still helping people today. I had a problem with the latch being jammed and the door not shutting. I found your video and it worked and luckily was an easy fix for me. Thanks a lot for the information!
8 years after uploading, but still saved my day. Lol a vehicle at my work had a stuck latch and I was told we were going to have to have the vehicle towed to a shop for repair. 5 mins of my time and a UA-cam search saved me from looking like an idiot at a repair shop. Thank you!
lol towed?? You can almost always rig up a big loop & macgyver it closed. I once snapped a handle in cold temps & couldn’t close while working, luckily was a plant lady & am used to horrible cold, so I had scissors & chopped up a shopping tote, secured the door using the window frame, and enjoyed the -20F breezes til after work.
Years later, still saving ppl, I was stuck in the rain with my car door stuck, thanks!
You saved my bacon! This stuck latch happened on my 1996 Leisure Travel Van; parked in a storage compound; suspect attempted break in as locking gas cap was pried off as well. At any rate, there was no autobody open Saturday when I discovered this messed up latch and thanks to YOU I did not have to leave my van with an open door until Monday when autobody opened! Am extremely grateful to you.

Finally I found this video after many useless wild goose chases. I closed the door with the seat belt in the way. The safety lock mechanism activated. I could not release it and so we had to go back home with the door not close or latched. My efforts to fix the problem in a parking lot failed because of one simple fix explained in this youtube video. I did not raise the exterior door handle while trying to open the safety latch. When following this video's procedure I can fix the problem in about one second or less with any nearby nail file, screwdriver, nail clipper, small finger, etc. pulling on the safety latch WHILE RAISING THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE! I thank you very much providing the answer for solving this dilemma for me.
Because of you...I don't have to take my car to the shop. I asked 3 different guys to help me fix this and none of them Wimps could. One guy worked at an auto sales place and gave me the name of a friend that had a shop. The idiot was using me to get his friend paid. Isn't that something. You are a lifesaver! Thank God for you.
Apparently Tauruses are known for this problem in cold weather, and I've been known to tie my door to the frame with yarn in the winter. This video finally showed me how to get it working again, without having to wait for Spring. Thank you so much!

I am an air force mechanic and I ran into this problem at 2 AM as it was begging to rain I looked up bad locking actuators bad cables panel removal and them I saw this video fixed my problem saved the interior of my car just wanted to say how simple this is it can be totally over looked and I really appreciate u making the video
Thank you!. There’s been something up with my drivers door not shutting off the lights and radio when open. I went to fiddle with it this morning and managed to get the latch stuck in the lock position. After not being able to pop it back I found your video.

this was extremely helpful thank you! my five year old stuck his finger in the door and clicked the top latch and I didn't notice until my driver side door on my suv wouldn't close. All of a sudden as a cold front moved in, I found 3/4 of my doors would not close. This worked like a charm and I had some lubricant on hand too. Very grateful!

so this morning I went to take my son to school and went to warm up the car while he was getting dressed. he was taking too long as so I decided to go check and see why he was taking forever because he was already late and when I went to close the door it bounced back. I had no idea how I was supposed to drive him to school so I literally drove him while holding the door closed the whole time. Long story short I tried for about half-an-hour freezing my butt off in 12 degree weather and killing my fingers. I couldn't fix it and figured I would go on UA-cam and see if there was a how to do video since there's always a how to do video about everything. I watched this video and fixed it in 30 seconds!!! it really pisses me off that I spent so much time trying to fix it when there was a 30-second fix the entire time. You saved my life thank you so much for the video good job!!!

you are a life saver dude. over at my 1st job trying to fix my door lock rod and all the sudden the door wouldnt shut. damn latch got stuck. lock rod still dont work. but at least i can close my door as i hit the freeway to get to my 2nd job.
