Good for you and good job. Thanks for the video. I'm happy to see that there are still some people that fix parts instead of just replacing them.

Just found out that part is called a striker plate, the latch is actually on the door. Wouldn't it put leveraged force on the striker that it's definitely not designed for? It would definitely losen the top bolt over time after repeated use because over the uneven force being applied to the top and bottom of the latch. It wouldn't be noticeable at first but you would definitely lose torque on the top bolt. Probably not a big deal provided you keep an eye on it and tighten it when you need to. The website says it was rigirously tested, but was there a long term study on the effects of repeated use? Because having someone jump on it or a weight stress test isn't enough to give me confidence in its safety for a vehicle or operator. Hopefully whoever uses this maintains it before they cause damage or injury if I'm right.

Thank you so much. Trying to understand why my 87 s15 locks and unlocks from the inside but not the outside. This video helped me understand the locking mechanism big time

I had a little trouble following this video because you do the video from one angle and then quickly cut to a photo that’s in a different angle. 😂
That being said I don’t think my latch is identical. My latch is stuck to where the door won’t open from either side (which at one point you said your latch didn’t work but clearly you were able to get the door open).
Do you have tips on which piece of the latch to push or pull to get the door open? From video taken with my phone shoved in there it appears to be working OK but I’m not 100% sure. I have to reach through the pulled back panel and in the hole in the bottom of the door because the door is stuck closed.
Any and all tips are greatly appreciated. 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500

The latches are different, but looking at pictures of the newer latch I think it's similar. There should be an inside and outside latch release. There is a release on the bottom left facing the latch from the inside, closer to the interior. Looks like you need to pull the connecting rod/bracket towards the interior. There also looks like a release on the bottom right from the inside, towards the interior. The connecting rod is in a square piece of plastic that needs to be pulled down.
There are (4) connecting rods, (2) of them are to unlatch and (2) are for locking/unlocking.

Thanks so much for the response!!! I absolutely believe you that they should be similar... I just had trouble trying to see how mine compared to yours in the video...also it was late LOL. I sent you a message to your facebook acct b/c I didn't see a "contact" option within youtube...because a picture is worth a thousand words!!! I wish youtube allowed photo comments!!!@@WithWardWorks

Use plastic pry bars made for vehicles trims.

Most of the time the problems with these latches is that they are very dirty with grease over grease and dirt...They don't slide very good at all and jamb up. That door latch looks completely dirty and I'm surprised it even works at all. Also people used the wrong lube on these as well. GM recommends Super lube, a silicone grease that is made for latches...If you don't clean and lube them correctly, you will always have issues.

Same here...had to take door panel off with the door closed. Got door to open then watched this video to find out what the problem was. I figured it would be difficult to diagnose because sometimes it worked and sometimes it didnt.

@@MrDenDenK72 How do you get the door open once you got the panel pulled back? I have this problem and I was able to get the panel pulled back enough to get up in there, but I’m not sure what to try to pull or push to get the door to unlatch lol
Unfortunately my latch doesn’t quite look like this one so this video didn’t help tell me how to unlatch it

Boil it in a pot of water and laundry detergent for 3 min then dry and then use silicone spray on hole latch ... If rusty soak it in CLR full concentrate over night

      @WithWardWorks  3 роки тому

I soaked it in gasoline. You could soak it in Simple Green or other cleaners. After cleaning, use white lithium grease on all the moving parts.

    • @WithWardWorks

GM latches from that period operate the same, so the operation shown in the video will be similar. Are you able to access the latch to remove it and check operation?

The hook should be somewhat hard to move. Springs provide tension.
