Thanks, just replaced side mirror successfully, then had a minor freak-out when door wouldn't latch. Mental health restored thanks to this quick video.
You are a lifesaver!!!!!!!!!!!! I am driving on old beater that has to last until March and I didn't want to spend any more money than possible. I was told I would have to take it in and get the latch replaced....AARGH! I looked it up online, found this video and with a screwdriver and some wd-40 I was able to fix it. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FYI-I'm a 63-year old, non- mechanically-inclined old lady....so if I can do it...
So I am leaving GA to NC, stop for gas and ice and I cannot close my passengers door!!! I drive back to my friends house and tell her I need u tube!! I am so grateful for your post, I was back on the road in 10 minutes!!! Thank you so much for your clear and precise fix. You saved my day
Thanks SO much. Latch was acting hinky on a very cold morning. Didn't have the grease but WD 40 worked until I got the grease. Whew. What a big help. THANK YOU buddy. Seriously.
This is a common issue on ford's (like yours and mine) . They even issued a recall for this so it is good that you put a video to let people know what to do to Atleast to get to the dealer to replace the latch. That being said you should make a video on important tools to keep in your car. In case something like this (or anything else) happens while you aren't home or have access to tools.
Was just headed out on a snowboard trip, I'm driver this time. Fellas coming and I somehow hit the latch into lock position on 2020 Ranger rear passenger door. You saved me from complete panic and an after hours mechanic visit. Thanks!
Thank you so much!!! AAA doesn’t fix this stuff and several calls to my dealer was not helpful (telling me to tie a string to the door and drive it to the dealer tomorrow morning at 7am for service evaluation). Found your video and you saved my life and lots of headaches. Bless you and keep doing your videos because YOU matter and make a difference in people’s lives…so grateful!!
Hey I’m so far from being a mechanic I can say thank you thank you thank you I was able to put the lock mechanism back in alignment Thank you thank you and thank you 🙏 again Once you know it you will always know it Hats off to this you tube!! Hope
BRAVO ZULU I just watch a couple of long videos how to replace the door latch in Toyota Sequoia but then I run into your OUTSTANDING video and it only took me 10 seconds to fixed it. Lol
Thank you for this! Went camping this weekend and Both my doors at the same exact time had this issue and I had to strap my doors together to get home! 😂 Needless to say this came in clutch and my doors shut now. I appreciate the video✅
THANK YOU!!! Thought I screwed my back doors up bad when I was seeing if the safety locks were on. I'm trying to fix the problem of the back doors not opening from the inside. I have a 1997 Ford Explorer. I just fixed the window motors. No knowledge with this guy stuff. I'll check your videos for my problem. Thanks again for posting.
I thought I was going to have to take my car to the shop or get a new car. I’m a college student so i did not want to spend that big of money to fix my car. This video helped me a lot. Thank you!
Omgg thanks I drove all the way home last night holding the door thinking I gotta pay for a new door in Detroit Michigan 12 degrees cold winter weather thanks my Guy💪🏾💯💯💯
Omg my door swung open and got off level I know that feeling where you can't close it in below freezing wind, I had to keep slamming cause it is not level will fix it today
Funny thing. Out of all the things I know to look for buying a used car, door latches didn't make the list. I bought an '02 Sequia last week. Love the car. But no one ever maintained the latches. I do with my cars. So I've fixed the rear hatch with some corrosion remover and lube. But the previous owners beat the plastic off the Driver's door latch. Now it has to be manually opened before shutting the door, and I'm probably looking at 130-170$ for a new latch assembly, and up to 300-400$ in labor. Thanks for the video. I hope more people look for this when they buy, and maintain what they drive.
I was getting pissed after doing some electrical troubleshooting and putting my truck to sleep be manually locking the doors with them open and couldn’t get them unlocked after I was done. Just need to pull the door handles. Thanks my friend, you earned my like and subscribe.👍
Thank you for this video. It helped me fix my 2011 Lincoln Navigator. I just put more grease on the same part that I saw in your video. Thank you very much.
Thanks for asking. Yes, got it resolved with a new actuator. The lock works now but still all the doors rattle. I guess what can you expect from a 20 year old vehicle, right?. Now finding out another problem with intermittent off and on again “check engine light”. After replacing spark plugs and coils, Mechanic told me not to put any more money into it…it’s small leak into carb. Just to keep driving it until then, will get at least another good 40k miles to get out of her. At 171K miles now. Kinda disappointed as I hear all the time it’s a really good motor. Someone told me they got around 300K. But they are a mechanic!
I did that and there's two parts to that latch there's a top part that goes over it that keeps it locked and there's a the other part that you mentioned and I pulled the door handle and got that to move down but the other part that is like a hook is over top of it and that will not move. But I did not think about pulling the door handle while I was moving those things thank you very much I got the door to shut in less than a minute! You rock. And I even open the door and shut it again. I think what happened was I stopped at the top of the hill to fix something and I may have inadvertently hit the side of that thing with my body or a stick or something.
this is not my case, my case is the door won't latch only when slammed. It is not stuck in the locked position. the latch isn't connecting to the ring unless it is slammed hard
Thank you this video was a lifesaver I was just stuck at the shopping center because my door would not close with This raggedy 2013 Kia optima that I need to get rid of.
Great Video.I have got the same problem but i cant flip it back to normal position, It is super tight, and feel jammed i tried with a thin screwdriver and somehow i was manage to shut the door but problem remain same. Any solutions?
Thanks for your video. My problem is with driver passenger rear door. It shuts (but seems like not with a solid shut) and the kids lock latch doesn’t budge. Can’t lock or unlock the top latch either. And the door rattles like crazy on not so smooth roads (not sure if the two problems related). Any suggestions?
Your a goat, literally i just sprayed it with DW-40 on the latch and slammed it a few times but not like a crazy slam. THEN Puff back to the way its suppose to be. Thanks alot!!
Awesome my latch on my 2000 Town and Country rear hatch back got stuck thanks to u its fixed save me a trip body shop to get it fixed the P wagon is back on the road !!
Will this cause a car battery to drain over time? My back driverside door has this problem with the door latch sticking and the other end of the of latch that catches the striker is loose and wobbly. I've been tightening it up with an allen wrench but the screws are about stripped. Anyhoo, the battery has died on me about 4 times since this latch became a problem. Diagnostics said there was a faulty door switch and they replaced it. Door still jacked up and brand new battery died again the other day. Just curious if this liquid wrench is all I need, or if I need a body shop to replace the latch and stripped screws. Please help!
If the door isn't closing and latching like it should, the interior light may be staying on causing a drain on the battery. You may want to spray some white grease on the latch that is sticking to help free it up a little. Here is a link to it in our Amazon store amzn.to/34XeDuY
Does it work the same on a 1999 blazer? I pushed it back towards the window, then it shuts but i have to pull real hard to open it?? I did put some oil in it.
I wish I had seen your helpful video before making the mistake of forcing the front passenger door of my 2004 Toyota RAV4 to close. It is now partially close but it won't open from either the outside or inside. It was operating properly before my stupid mistake. Do you have any suggestion on how I can get the door to open? Thank you in advance for any advice.
@@HomeownerRepair I replaced a bad actuator (which is now working) and thought of checking the door's function before putting back the interior side panel. When it wouldn't latch (like in your video) that's when I (stupidly) side-bumped it. It went in halfway (not fully closed). Pulling the exterior door handle or the interior lever does not do anything. A locksmith wouldn't touch it so I left it at my mechanic who's also stumped. Please help!
I had this happen in a remote area about 70 miles from home, and since I hadn't seen how to fix it, I ended up lashing the door to the headrest with a tow rope. I was afraid to drive more than about 50 the entire way home. The lesson I learned is that you should have at least a couple of tools in your car all the time, because I tried prying that latch with a pen and the metal end of a bungee cord. So annoying. I'm gonna go out in the driveway and try to fix it, and I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being easy.
Do you have a fix for that without having to buy one. My drivers door does it everytime. Already took it out and lube it but still doing it. Is there a fix for it by taking it apart?
You may want to remove the door panel to se if something has broke inside of the door going to the latch. I have a video that shows you how to remove the door panel.
Hi ! I was trying to replace the exterior handle but am unable to lock or unlock it and now the won't close. the side catch as you showed here in the video is stuck and can't prize it open or get the new handle out🤦♀ andy help would be so appreciated!

If the door isn't closing and latching like it should, the interior light may be staying on causing a drain on the battery. You may want to spray some white grease on the latch that is sticking to help free it up a little. Here is a link to it in our Amazon store amzn.to/34XeDuY
At what point would you need to replace the latch? My latch is consistently stuck. I will try the lubricant and hope it's a quick fix.
If it's problematic you may want to replace it

You may want to remove the door panel to se if something has broke inside of the door going to the latch. I have a video that shows you how to remove the door panel.
