Learn how to fix a car door that will not close. This is a common problem to happen on automobiles.
Usually what happens is you will try to close the door on your vehicle and it will not close, it just hits the striker on the door jamb and will not close.
This can be a really annoying this to have happen, especially if you are out trying to enjoy your day.

You are a lifesaver!!!!!!!!!!!! I am driving on old beater that has to last until March and I didn't want to spend any more money than possible. This is a common issue on ford's (like yours and mine) . They even issued a recall for this so it is good that you put a video to let people know what to do to Atleast to get to the dealer to replace the latch. That being said you should make a video on important tools to keep in your car. In case something like this (or anything else) happens while you aren't home or have access to tools.

Omg my door swung open and got off level I know that feeling where you can't close it in below freezing wind, I had to keep slamming cause it is not level will fix it today
this is not my case, my case is the door won't latch only when slammed. It is not stuck in the locked position. the latch isn't connecting to the ring unless it is slammed hard
You may have to pry the latch open again.
Was just headed out on a snowboard trip, I'm driver this time. Fellas coming and I somehow hit the latch into lock position on 2020 Ranger rear passenger door. You saved me from complete panic and an after hours mechanic visit. Thanks!

Good sir, there's a more involved reasoning behind these things failing to close in sub zero temps. The second you open the door using the outside handle, the cable connecting the handle to the latch stays in the open position due to iced over moisture in the cable jacket. Thereafter, you can move the latch to the right position all you want (as seen in this video), but the stuck cable will still prevent the door from locking. The only known fix is to disassemble the handle assembly and greasing the heck out of the actuating cable attached to the handle. Pre heating the car for 15 to 30 minutes will also make the cable jacket return to normal operation. Longer pre heating is required if the temps drop below -40f.

Thanks SO much. Latch was acting hinky on a very cold morning. Didn't have the grease but WD 40 worked until I got the grease. Whew. What a big help. THANK YOU buddy. Seriously.

Funny thing. Out of all the things I know to look for buying a used car, door latches didn't make the list. I bought an '02 Sequia last week. Love the car. But no one ever maintained the latches. I do with my cars. So I've fixed the rear hatch with some corrosion remover and lube. But the previous owners beat the plastic off the Driver's door latch. Now it has to be manually opened before shutting the door, and I'm probably looking at 130-170$ for a new latch assembly, and up to 300-400$ in labor. Thanks for the video. I hope more people look for this when they buy, and maintain what they drive.

I did that and there's two parts to that latch there's a top part that goes over it that keeps it locked and there's a the other part that you mentioned and I pulled the door handle and got that to move down but the other part that is like a hook is over top of it and that will not move. But I did not think about pulling the door handle while I was moving those things thank you very much I got the door to shut in less than a minute! You rock. And I even open the door and shut it again. I think what happened was I stopped at the top of the hill to fix something and I may have inadvertently hit the side of that thing with my body or a stick or something.

Thanks for asking. Yes, got it resolved with a new actuator. The lock works now but still all the doors rattle. I guess what can you expect from a 20 year old vehicle, right?. Now finding out another problem with intermittent off and on again “check engine light”. After replacing spark plugs and coils, Mechanic told me not to put any more money into it…it’s small leak into carb. Just to keep driving it until then, will get at least another good 40k miles to get out of her. At 171K miles now. Kinda disappointed as I hear all the time it’s a really good motor. Someone told me they got around 300K. But they are a mechanic!

I was getting pissed after doing some electrical troubleshooting and putting my truck to sleep be manually locking the doors with them open and couldn’t get them unlocked after I was done. Just need to pull the door handles. Thanks my friend, you earned my like and subscribe.👍

Your a goat, literally i just sprayed it with DW-40 on the latch and slammed it a few times but not like a crazy slam. THEN Puff back to the way its suppose to be. Thanks alot!!

I had this happen in a remote area about 70 miles from home, and since I hadn't seen how to fix it, I ended up lashing the door to the headrest with a tow rope. I was afraid to drive more than about 50 the entire way home. The lesson I learned is that you should have at least a couple of tools in your car all the time, because I tried prying that latch with a pen and the metal end of a bungee cord. So annoying. I'm gonna go out in the driveway and try to fix it, and I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being easy.

Thanks for your video. My problem is with driver passenger rear door. It shuts (but seems like not with a solid shut) and the kids lock latch doesn’t budge. Can’t lock or unlock the top latch either. And the door rattles like crazy on not so smooth roads (not sure if the two problems related). Any suggestions?

My door handle is jammed and wont pull out as you pull handle to open door. My door will not latch shut. Any ideas?
You may want to remove the door panel to se if something has broke inside of the door going to the latch. I have a video that shows you how to remove the door panel.

What happens when my latch is open already but it won't catch the pin
There may be a rod or a cable inside the door that connects to the latch that might be broke. It might also be the latch itself. Hope this helps you out.
