- In this video, I show you my French wardrobe, which is a curated, capsule wardrobe. Most of my pieces can be worn with each other. I show you the items, the main colours and the few pops of brights, that I and typical French women wear in France (hint: no acid green and no ripped jeans in sight!).

Organization is important in pulling together an outfit and helps in knowing what I need to purchase. My storage is small,so organization is important. I have pullover sweaters, cardigans, blouses, skirts etc. I have my shoes by colors and boots and ankle boots together. I am glad you mentioned the full length mirror. I sometimes wonder if people ever look in a mirror. A full length mirror is essential. I check every angle before I leave the house.

I store sleveless together, then short sleeve, then shorts, then pants, then the warmer stuff at the end. But, sometimes i group them to make 3 outfits, for instance for church.

Hi Marie-Anne - My clothes are sorted by type: tops, bottoms, sweaters, jackets; then by colour. I like seeing the range of colour repeated type-by-type. It took me many years to get to where most items can mix-and-match with little planning. My accessory choices usually guide my outfit after considering the occasion and the weather.
I just reorganizatied my closet today,from spring/ summer to fall/winter. It feels great to stand back and see a orderly wardrobe,light to dark,and to donate what l know longer wear or doesn't fit to charity.
My shoes and boots are nexted and then bag's!

Very interesting. I have decided to re-vamp my wardrobe and get rid of stuff that doesn't work for me. I am retired and rarely need smart occasion clothes, but I feel I could get my clothes to work better for my lifestyle. Thanks for the tips. Very motivational.

Your video came at the perfect time! I am decluttering the entire house - all closets and drawers. I already organize by colour and type of garment but have severe space constraints so I am doing more weeding of those clothing and other items that it is time to say goodbye too. It feels great to look at the drawers and closets when they are well organized and makes life much easier! Your closet is beautiful! Beautiful way to see your wardrobe. Love it, always enjoy seeing it in the background of your videos. So neat, tidy and “room to breathe”. Not over stuffed. Easy to see and easy to put away again.
My own closet I keep my black & grey on one side and navy on the other so I don’t accidentally mix them on a dark morning.
In between are the whites, creams, beiges then colour accents.
I learn so much from you Marie-Anne. Your wardrobe is very stylish and well curated. Having a dressing room is a dream of mine. I have an extra bedroom I just have to wrap my mind around creating something like this.

One of the best closets on UA-cam because it’s the entire wardrobe it’s not just one part you dress from top to bottom and that’s really an art. Yes thank you for including your sewing box. I do organize my closet like this but I also put the fabrics together especially the wool Then in the spring I can take all the wool jackets out and put them in storage very easily

And one other necessity FOR ME, because my hair is layered but longer than yours, is a smaller mirror on the opposite side from my full length mirror - for checking the back of my hair! A must for me, as my hair has a mind of its own! Your closet is simply amazing! I am mentally preparing to dive in and “just do it”..... lol.

I recently arranged my closet on a color gradient and I really like it. I don't worry too much about getting it exactly right...if I am looking for a specific item, I know where it will be!
I really appreciate your low-key approach, kindness and of course, simple yet exquisite elegance (also I like that this is real knowledge for me as I am in my mid-50s too) I came across your channel quite by accident and am delighted! Though I am an Italian American (with an Italian spouse) I am watching your videos, and learning from them a lot, here in Italy. Being surrounded by Italian fashionistas as I am (I live outside Florence) I prefer a more stripped down approach to dressing. The bright colors are fun but I do agree the neutrals do look more elegant and smart on the hangers! I will have to reorganize my closet tomorrow! Right now I have all my “smart” clothes together and then sorted by style so the colors are all miss matched. I wish I had better closet utilization!

I store by category, and then colour from dark to light. It’s very helpful when getting ready!

My wardrobe is also colour coordinated from light to dark and also by colour. I love the ease of just picking something without pulling everything out. I remember one time my partner ( this was a few years before we married ) rang up and said he was on his way home and we were going for dinner so start getting ready. By the time he got home half an hour I was sitting outside waiting for him. He couldn't believe it. He said he'd never known a woman to be ready so quickly. It's only because my wardrobe is so organised. I love your videos Madame, they help reinforce my own ideas and give me extra tips.

Love your closet layout ...I am on the hunt for a 'dummy' or mannequin to use LOL....you have such a comfortable and enjoyable space and your clothes get to breathe and enjoy light ....I find traditional small, dark, damp closets very unfriendly....I use free standing garment racks/rails and find that is better for my clothes and me...now to sort by color and length again..

Bonjour! What a great space, so envious! I have a really small wardrobe in the bedroom, and another equally small outside. So, I can't have much stuff..better. I have the items in categories, bottoms, shirts, sweaters, and then by colour. Shoes are elsewhere. Not ideal, but i find it fast to get dressed anyway. The important thing is to be ordered and get rid of stuff we never wear. Space is really irrelevant. I only wear the same things all the time anyway! By the way, I once stayed with friends when I was going to a wedding. When I was getting dressed for the big event, I couldn't find a single mirror in the whole house...and dark lighting. ..result..got to the wedding,left out belt hooks, coffee spot on blouse, and glaring make up! Felt awful all day..Ha ha!! Yes..a mirror is essential! Bonne journée

I keep my clothes in a similar manner, it is very helpful. I Ike to use Pinterest to upload photos of myself in outfits I like. I keep the file PRIVATE and find it helpful to look back on outfits I like. I love all your videos. I would love to see a video on how to pare down our closets. How not to keep so much. Thank you!
Ok, I’m giving it a go! My tiny hanging space is (apart from 3 coats on the left, in the corner) now colour blocked. In each section, I have skirts, trousers, tops, dresses and jackets from left to right. I used to have each type of garment hanging together, then colour coordinated. As I’m rebuilding my wardrobe, I’m putting into action lots of the tips I’m learning from you and other channels. Thank you!

Hello Marie-Anne, I love that insert of you walking down the street. Fabulous. I do organize my closet by color and length....my Grandmother was French Canadian....I think those good genes are coming through. I hope so.
I wish I had enough space for racks of clothes but I've had to downsize because I am no longer able to take care of a large house. I used to have a walk in closet as big as a bedroom. I really miss that
Such a helpful video! Questions: Where are your pants and skirts? Do you use suit hangers to hang a matching jacket and pant/skirt on the same hanger? Where are your coats and heavier jackets? My closet storage frustrations are as follows: I prefer to hang my pants lengthwise w/ a pant hanger that has sturdy metal clips because pants remain perfectly ironed and ready to wear. The problem is that my current closet is tiny which doesn't afford the space for the many I have. Here in California near the beach, I have a lot of denim and summer/yearround denim capri pants that I have opted to stack folded in half on a shelf above my closet hang rod to maximize my space. What are your thoughts about pant hangers and avoiding wrinkles and constant ironing in order to wear them? And sweaters: I have many cardigans that I role a la Marie Kondo. However, pullover sweaters get horribly wrinkled if I try to store them by rolling so I store them in extra long bins folded in half horizontally to avoid extra wrinkles. How do you store yours? And lastly for now, I have purposefully downsized my belongings but I still can't always see all articles of clothing which causes me to not use what I already have or go out to buy something I need that I end up finding later which creates duplication and wasted money. I am excited to try color coding as you suggest but since I have always organized my clothes by type (blouses, pants, skirts, dresses,) I'm nervous I won't know where to find an item I want to wear. I very much appreciate your opinions and suggestions. 🌻

Very interesting! I liked the red top and black top. I may need to go get a trench coat now! The brogues look too much like men's shoes, though.
My closet is organized by function - play clothes here, work clothes over there and clothes for messy jobs or for exercising are stored in drawers sweaters and jeans have their own shelves. Since I hang onto clothes for decades, I pretty much know precisely what I have.

A very inspiring video. I love colour, however I am trying to bring in more neutrals as I know that will make my wardrobe more versatile. My colouring is warm, so I have very little black apart from shoes and bags. What neutrals would a French chic woman with warm colouring wear? More brown, camel and cream maybe? Or what about olive?

Beautiful organization and display of your clothing. Today I've been downsizing my clothing and organizing my closet. I wear black, white, and gray, as my base colors especially for Fall and Winter. Do you have navy as your Spring and Summer base or is it still black with a few pieces of navy and various blues?
@@MarieAnneLecoeur Thanks for your reply. I found it interesting that red is reserved for Autumn. Sometimes I wear red, but it has a limited run in the Spring and Summer. Maybe an American "thing"?
