I have a couple Spheros 4000s and love them. Best in the price range for in my opinion. I especially like that the 4000 weighs less than most 3000s. They have been splashed with saltwater and even dunked in saltwater and they still perform like brand new. Great Channel.
Yeah, spheros is a steal at that price range. I have 14000k, 6k, and the best reels I have ever owned.

I got 2 spheros 4000 in 2019 in 2022 i hooked up on a 35 or 40lb cobia with one fought it for 25 minutes landed it had no problems. 2024 caught a couple more cobia with it , smaller ones but still reel works great i rinse them when im done fishing and sprayed lube on them twice in 5 years they still work great.highly recommend them

I just got a chance to play with these reels and here is what I have discovered..
I believe this may be the first time in USDM market that shimano has offered a 3000-4000 size hybrid - SP3000XGSW, which shares body with 4000 but it has a rotor, spool, and handle from smaller C3000. Because of this it is slightly heavier than SPC3000HGSW but lighter than SP4000XGSW. Because of larger body and smaller rotor it also has more clearance for your knuckles, so if you have a shimano 2500 or C3000 size shimano reel and the rotor (or bail) touches your knuckles as it spins then SP3000XGSW may fix that problem for you, in fact it has slightly more knuckle clearance than 4000 and C5000 size shimano reels.
SP4000XGHG is very similar in size to most shimano reels in that size, and if you need more line capacity then the spool from Nasci C5000 will 100% fit on SP4000XGHG and they use identical drag system.
The body on SPC3000HGSW is smaller (compact). If you compare SPC3000HGSW and SP3000XGSW you will see that they have same size rotor, spool, and handle, but the body on SP3000XGSW will be slightly bigger than SPC3000HGSW, it is because it does not have a compact body but has the same "body" as SP4000XGSW. SP4000XGSW looks bigger than SP3000XGSW because it has larger handle, larger rotor and spool, but "body" is the same. It is frustrating that even USA shimano website has wrong parts diagram listed for SP3000XGSW, they have SPC3000HGSW pdf file for SP3000XGSW reel.

Hey uncle joe I had a question and wanted to ask what reel and size would you recommend for (plugging) rod shimano speedmaster 12ft MH and 9ft salmon steelhead MH... I love whipping and now I would like to kick it up a notch by getting into lures and popping them... any feedback would appreciate it! Mahalos unkz

Much Mahalo uncle Joe for replying back, I appreciate it... I think I wont be using my 12ft pole on whipping plugs. Might use it for dunking. I too like to whip with smaller poles as I feel its easy to maneuver while whipping, you can feel the ocean with smaller poles haha... I will keep it simple! I didnt watch all your videos but I sure watch on a daily basis, I like your style of fishing... great learning station for me... Good video. 👊🏽 I’m curious how the newer Nasci FC 3000 and the Spheros SW 3000 compare to each other in saltwater use. I’m close to buying a Spheros, but am wondering if the Nasci FC would be just as good if not better. Has more bearings, is lighter, cheaper, and also has core protect. It’s interesting. Only plus I can spot on the Spheros are the double sided sealed bearings. Any thoughts? 🤔
I decided to get another SPHEROS SW Inshore and they are sold out , glad I bought my 1st one just after reading your review. I fish the same area as Elias and use this reel with a jig and gulp shrimp.
I have two of the 4000 size now and have caught everything from redfish/trout/flounder to mangrove snapper and cobia offshore. One thing to mention about these reels is they have a great sound when the drag is peeling off. I got turned onto the Spheros line when I bought the 14000 FB for jigging in the Gulf of Mexico and appreciate that they are bulletproof, but also have enough "slop" in them that sand/grit/dirt don't really phase the reel if you are getting splashed by waves. If the Stradic is the Lexus SUV of reels, these are the Ford F-150. The 3000 would cover most inshore work, but I bumped up to 4000 for light offshore work. The 4000 size also works great my 9' surf rod.
Do you feel like the 4000 is hard to turn under load, like just retrieving your lures? I feel like I have to exert alot of energy, way more so than all of my other reels.
@@ThomasDercole2230 I have not had that experience. I only use it with 1/4 oz to 1/2 oz lures and 1 to 1.25 oz plugs and nothing larger. I don't think it is designed to pull bigger plugs or 2 oz lures etc. and would probably bend if loaded really heavily with the drag mashed down. I use mine with around 3-3.5 lbs drag at full max.
@@RSdd11 yea i just struggle to reel in 1/2 oz chatterbaits and spinners, i lubed the bail roller with no luck, sucks because ive only had it a few months and cant return it.

The Strad is nice, my bg4500 is silky smooth. But I had a second gen sphyeros 5k loved it, NEVER let me down. I have a twin power 4K XG an talk about smooth oh my goodness

Got to use the 4000 size for a few days of surf fishing in NC. The reel feels slightly tight at first but became butter smooth after about a half hour of casting. The line lay is excellent with 20lb j braid.
This MIGHT be my next spinning reel. And the hybrid silver/black is rad! Make that happen Shimano!

Another head scratcher , I was at icast in july. Not one shimano employee on the floor was pushing this reel. It was thrown in the corner like a dirty dishrag.
That's really unfortunate.
Possibly due to a last minute addition...the procyon lt was like that at the bassmaster classic...they didn't even know anything about it...I have on camera me stumping mark mills over and over again ...he asked I not put it out and I obliged....it was all in fun..but they literally unpacked the reel for th first time after they built the booth.

Marketers are weird. Bass pro has a level wind reel they call the " catmaxx" I think it Is? And lots of people overlook it because they think it's only good 4 catfish. Even though it's a fantastic trolling/salmon/pike reel.
I know exactly the reel you speak of. Been around awhile..lots of guys troll with em. I think they're the same as they were almost 20 years ago...
Honestly it’s a pretty shit catfish reel cause it’s only rated for 10lbs max drag. No problem for channel cats but anything over 35 pounds is going to spool you
@@Ruggedjellyfishing hard to argue that point. But you can install carbon fiber drag washers and up the drag rating I'd imagine?
@@Voxguitarsrock it already has carbon washers. Might make a difference with higher quality washers, but drag diameter affects max drag more than the material

The only good thing to come out of Shimano in recent yrs is the Stradic FL. They really screwed the spheros image but being a Saragosa user for over a decade, I really hope they dont fluff that up as well when a new one is released. Daiwa in the past decade have BLOWN Shimano out of the water. I was pro-Shimano before Daiwa have now left Shimano in the dust! I chose to buy a Saltiga Dogfight and a Catalina 5000 over Stella or Twinpower. I chose the Phantom Hyper LT 5000 over the Stradic FL , I chose a 2000 Exceler over a Sahara/Nasci, Sol III over a Sustain and don't even get me started on rods. The only two Shimano reels I now keep are the current Thunnus 12000 and Saragosa 20k reels.
we must not be alarmed!...SARAGOSA&SPHEROS SW are legends!!(missing 14k spool 69mm)....now the market is wider and there are good options from $130.
WIN CATALINA!(although it should bring the option of NO magsealded) and is that the TW contributes little more than a gosa at the double price

The drag in the Spheros SW is an improvement over the dicky finesse washer configurations of the FJ throughout other reels, i like that larger surface area washer style of previous drag designs!
P.s. have had / seen Daiwa Air bails pull away from the line roller housing part in the past, not a fan imho...

Great video! I have the 4000 and it is smooth as glass out of the box. I fished a 1/2 oz spoon in current and this reel felt really tight. With no resistance it’s still smooth. Very drastic difference over my BG’s and my buddy’s stradic fl 2500. Have you noticed this while fishing it? I ordered a bearing to replace the bushing on the main gear. Hope this helps. Keep up the videos! Love your no BS reviews.
ill have to keep my bg's, stupid how they did'nt include a bearing on the side i put the handle...and folding handle is just on more useless nook the grime can do wonders in the salt. also, no bigger than 4k (lt) sizing..anyways, my LT and BG will hold up great until either shimano, daiwa or penn get something out that really is a step-up in quality/features and killing in the price department.

The Shimano bearing to replace the bushing is $9,cheaper on line.
I won’t buy it at retail $120 but if I can get 20% off it will be my new kayak/wade reel.

Would you ever consider doing a comparison of the 3 stradic models? It's hard to decide which one to purchase. FL, FK, CI4+
Not planning on that now...but when I say the FL is the best spinner south of the certate..that's all inclusive....I have a video comparing the Sustain to the Ci4+ and the ultegra. And the FL to the FK....so that pretty much covers everything. I'd choose the FL over the sustain and in all honestly probably the twinpower.

DID u know Daiwa starting to make cold forge gears now? cnc gears are inferior compare to cold forge, they finally following shimano footsteps
the PROCYON LT has cold forge reel retail starting at $150, and theydidnt mention anything about mag seals ( think magseal is BS anyway, it doesnt do any good blocking water, as the centripetal force occurs while spinning the reel, particles will break off the magnet and flying everywhere as well as going to the bearing, then they assume when the reel stop spinning the particle get suck back into the center by magnet, but that after the water already get in the core)
Anyway enough of my rant, just hope u have a chance to review the procyon LT and see if it has any water resistant capability

The spheros which is for the US market is a better reel..$155..have landed 22 gts and lost 24 mostly with the spheros 6ksw 1 have field tested 42 reels and bg 3500..4000 n saltist did not go 25 hours before failing in hawaii ..waters..spheros 355 hrs.. saltx 6k 135 hrs..quantum cabo 112 hours..14 stradics less than 76 hrs..spheros 4ksw has topped the 14 atradics popping 2oz lures for Gts

Since the Scoob is "ignoring" you, I'd take the bait and say Fuego LT is your choice. I have BG, LT 3K and Spheros SW inshore 4k. Depends on your target species, the Fuego LT should be able to handle trout to bull reds without any issues. Granted it'll have some flex if the fish got over 10 lbs and you need to horse it in fast.

nice video! How is this better than my Sahara? My sahara has a bearing there. This has aluminum body but i catch carp with the saharas and they never flex, in any size. It has core protect on top which i don't think is needed for freshwater. I kind of want that bearing there, just so I can feel good : )

back then, $100 reels were looked at as egg beaters that did what they’re supposed to do. The people who bought them knew that the sole purpose was to reel in the fish, nothing more.
NOWADAYS, most companies try to mask that “egg beater” mentality with fancy words such as “x protect” or “zion air rotor”.
I think it’s just plain stupid to try to sell these cheap gimmicks, when in fact the #1 reel at any price point is the Zebco 33 Spincaster!

If you had to buy one, BG vs Spheros SW, which would you choose?
In this size range.....throw a dart....The SPheros SW 3k/4k is essentially a stradic FK. Very good reel. The BG is an excellent reel as well. The battle 3 dx and standard would be another option. And the easiest to maintain of the bunch.
I appreciate the time you take to make these videos and post them online. I'm putting together a travel spinning kit to take to salty locations, primarily from the beach. For example, I'm heading to Cabo soon, and plan to fish from the Pacific beach. I've picked up a Daiwa Ardito 5 piece 11' travel spin rod, and am looking for a spin reel to match with it. I wouldn't use this combo very often (for now), probably on my annual travel to sandy beach locations. There are so many "reel" options out there that all boast carbon fiber drags, X ball bearings, etc, and it's difficult soring through the chaff to find the wheat. I have a vintage Penn 8500 SS that is a super solid reel, but alas the reel foot won't fit into the rod reel seat, so the Penn will probably go up for sale and needs to be replaced. I have a Daiwa BG 4000 to match up to a 7' 3 piece travel spin rod.Any reel (brand, model, size) suggestions for the Daiwa Ardito surf rod? Penn Fierce II or III, Battle II or III, another BG...? Budget reels - Kastking, or?Thanks again for all of your work!
The bg is a great reel. Do you find that the 4000 is too small? You could go with the size up if you want. The spinfisher vi reels are also very nice then there's the spheros and Saragosa which I feel are the best surf reels under the salt x and van Staal
Oh yea my Stradic FL came with the smaller handle grip?? In the picture advertised it had a bigger paddle style and I like those more😒 It was a bummer to say the least

Great vid once again , i am a shimano fan and still fish the 2500fj which is very smooth. The phantom hyper lt looks interesting especially the 6000 which is 12.5 ounces. A reel this weight and its high capacity is what shimano lacks or maybe i am wrong. I read on a site that it is based on the blast lt with bg gears. Penny for your thoughts???? It would be great if you could break down one.
I thought it was an aluminum tatula with alu gear not zinc like the bg but I'm not sure

can you please do a video explaining spool sizes/diameters? daiwa lt sizes are supposed to be similar to shimano but this reel is TINY. The 4000 spheros holds 10/200 mono, that's about a fuego 2500!! but then again a bg 3000 is also listed as 10/200 . I am soooo confused. Also which size for casting small trout lures as far as posible would you recommend?

I need a 4000/5000 reel for sea bass fishing in Portugal. I fish from surf beaches from the shore, and from the rocks, where I can get splashes but in theory the reel should not get sumerged. I don't want a Penn coz I had a bad experience with a Penn clash, lot of wind knots... I can't spend more than 200$. I am between a Shimano spheros SW, stradic FL, and baiwa BG MQ. Also I saw a Ryobi AP Power Yellow. Could you recommend me one for the kind of fishing?

At the risk of receiving death threats or being named the "Turd on the Table" subscriber....if discovering "channel Lock" style pliers was exciting to you, please google pass thru socket sets and get your mind blown. Best of all they are still in production!!! Love the videos, and never thought that I would ever choose a reel based on actual design and function instead of the "kool" color. Now I go through tackle shop and say to myself...."that one is a POS, yea that one is also a POS...."
Lolol definitely got a kick out what you said lol. I didn't get excited over channel locks... But they're a smooth parallel Jawed pliers wrench... Very different... Significantly kewler.. Lol... I had a pass through socket set years ago I had put a super charger and a 240 amp alternator on an s10 20 years ago and didn't have room for deep sockets... I'm missing that along with an xtant amp two 1500.1 Rockford amps. A few k40 radar modules and piaa 959 lights..plus tools . I'll cry if I ever find that box lol

So would you recommend the Spheros over the Ultegra in 4000 size for freshwater spinfishing? Because I could get the Spheros for 80 bucks and the ultegra is 20 bucks more expensive.

Theses reels over in Japan (presso 2025 c )(presso 2025 H )(presso 2025) one we’d site said they have 10/1 and the other one said 12/1 how can you compare it to certate LT and the other hi end daiwa reels

When I put them back together for the thumbnail....I decided to swap parts...the FK was alread won in the last giveaway so she gets all the stradic bonuses....But had to swap some internals.....I went cross eyed a few times...lol Ifilmed a service of a tatula type r the other week. (my friend at shimano's brothers pair of type r's ....I'll see if it's good enough to put out if it helps ya.

Is the ci+14 a better reel than the Fl, or can you not compare the two because the Ci14 is sealed for saltwater and the Fl isn’t ?

the sw spheros is almost unbeatable!.
New version for what?...could improve something like going from 3 to 5 drag washers in 8k/10k. And present it with fast ratio(as gosa) and 14k spool and 25k (kill the BG and almost the twinpower....behind Catalina)
For me, new Spheros looks like upgraded 17 Nasci or upgraded Ultegra

SLAMMER something STRONGER and better sealed, but if you go to medium fish, It may not be worth it, or look the HS has more line.
bg5000 wins in the realm of low PRICES, but you must take care of salt water.
....another great option is a SARAGOSA8000 (if you have gosa&spheros 10k low ratio for jigging you can put that spool: more capacity and save 30-60$)

With hindsight you guys making reviews have promoted a poorly and inconsistently manufactured reel making anglers believe they would get a stradic or saragosa at the spheros price. I've had 4 pcs, 2 had bad gearing out the box, 1 corroded (I clean my gear after every outing) and a 10k locked out on a king fish. Components are 1 thing but if manufactured with different tolerances then still not good. For the money BG was still far superior in durability.

@@felixfelicis5574 8000 / 10000 / 14000 / 18000. poor materials quality, poor workmanship, happy I sold them all. re-invested my money in used saltiga 15 from japan, reel like butter, zero corrosion. Saragosa's are good reels for the money, spheros have been advertised as being just as good with few missing bearings replaced by bushes. That is a lie, there is a world between the 2 reels.

It's not stella or Stradic FL for that matter...but it's a good reel and nice to see at that price

The idlers that drive the worm should last very very long.. Often longer than the pinion and main gear
