I have had two 8,000 and one 18,000 since the release and put them through absolute hell. I upgraded my 8000s to the new Shimano saragosas and honestly they are just as good as their more expensive cousins the seragos's are a tad bit smoother but I pulled in many of a 40-plus catfish on the 8000 Spiros more than just a few 50 lb catfish have been on the receiving end and they handle it oh so well the only thing I like over the spheros that the Saragosa has is that the Saragosa drag sound is more my game but the Spiros still sounds really really good when drag is getting ripped if anybody is wondering which one to get out of the two I definitely recommend the Spiros unless you just have money to drop
Great review, I’m going to get the combo for an upcoming Florida trip. I’ve been watching you shows for a while , I have even booked fishing trips with Bo Johnson and Richard Black after watching BB. Keep it coming🎣
Hi there! Thank you for the video. I am planning to get Shimano Spheros SW 14KXG for saltwater and I am just wondering if it is a good idea to get 14KXG rather than 10KPG and 8KHG. Thank you.
The difference is line capacity and gear ratio. If you are wanting to move baits quicker, go with the XG model. If you are looking for more power and torque go with the PG and if you want a jack of all trades model that can do a bit of both, go with the HG. If line capacity is the biggest issue, the 14000 will hold the most but the bodies are all pretty much the same.
Hi, do you think the shimano ultegra 14000 xse is a good choice for surf fishing? I really like the looks of it and the extra spool that comes in the box and the slow isolation. Thank you
Hi, i have just bought the Assassin Amia Zero Edition 11 foot Extra heavy 2 piece, Wanted to know which size of the Spheros would fit best with the rod? thx
One if my combos for inshore has been a Chronarch G paired with a last-gen Teramar SE (6'6", medium power). Was thinking about upgrading to the Teramar PX, but the specific rod in the lure range I want (1/4 to 3/4 oz) is a ML power, and I'm trying to stay at a medium rod for the Chronarch. Any suggestions?
The Teramar PX 6'8"ML is a nice rod if you are throwing a lot of the lighter weight lures but jumping up to the 7' Medium will do equally well, even down to a 1/4.oz and will give you more lateral range.
looking pretty closely at these for cats and sturgeon. I'll most likely run 30-50 pound mono and 8 foot medium heavy or 7 foot medium heavy heavy. I was considering the 8-10 thousands?
I would just jump to the 14000 if you are using 50lb mono because of the line capacity. The frame is the same size as the 8000 and 10000 just a deeper cut spool.
I got 13’3” and 15’ rods for surf fishing, but really wondering which reel to get. I run anywhere from 30-50lb braid with similar fluoro leader. Would the 8000 be sufficient?
I have the 14k 2021 spheros, other than the handle are there any other upgrades I can do to the reel? The reel is fantastic but just wondering if I can make it better.
No really other than cosmetic upgrades.... adding another bearing will only add a bit of weight and minimal performance upgrade, the drag is already Cross Carbon and that would be the simplest conversion to make if it was equipped with felt drag washers
I have never fished one so it would be a tough thing to compare. I have been using Shimano my whole career and have never seen a reason to look elsewhere.
It’s always nice to wish… I have lists like that as well but for the price point, we have been very fortunate as everytime Shimano drops a redesigned reel you basically get trickle down technology upgrades for the same price point.

If higher speed retrieve and line capacity is what you need than the 14000 would be the right call. If you need more torque for bottom dwelling fish, the 10000PG model may be better suited with its lower gear ratio. The 8000 obviously is the smallest with the mid gear ratio so it just depends what you are looking for.

Awesome and much appreciated! Two of my favourite guides for sure!
Would the 18k be good for 100lb tuna? Thank you!

I bought 2 6000s. Going to put them to the test next week.

Which is better between the Spheros vs Stradic, greetings, thank you!!
for saltwater sizes above 5000 I would go with Spheros. Stradic SW is not available in North America. For 1000 to 5000 I would pick Stradic FM

Are the Penn prevail 2 rods better than the combo on these videos?

Look at the Speedmaster XTD 14000. Great value and designed for long casting in the surf.

@@hunterblood313 oh believe me I did lol.
New big water rod. Pls review it
Hey awesome video would you be able to do a review on the pen slammer 4?
I have never fished one so it would be a tough thing to compare. I have been using Shimano my whole career and have never seen a reason to look elsewhere.
I hope Shimano produces a 2025 Spheros with some improvements but with the same low price. And in 6000 or lower, size.

Then that would be a new saragosa. Can't expect Shimano to put all their features into a budget reel. The spheros is a great reel alreasy
