i just bought my first bike a week ago. Stator Cover was JB welded and Gasket maker all over it. Yeah i should've looked better but Thanks to this video i was able to tackle the repair/replacement with confidence. Great video, Thank you!
bike wasn't charging battery, aka dead battery every 10min running. tested via ohms, DMM, rotor was giving less than manual specs. Bought new one, ran same ohm test, new one passed easily. mounted new stator. your video was invaluable!! i followed your route with the gears and the smaller back plate. The washer on the end, mine seamed either magnetic OR a good hole into the lining, not sure which. I was paranoid about dropping washer in, since the amount of effort to get cover off again, no thx. Went fine, i put smaller cover on and it meshed 1st try with the mounting holes. Felt good. Haven't started her up, need to get more oil first. I love the feeling of dissolving mystery. (didn't know what that stator part was until i was trouble shooting) i didn't think "what's that do?" but after having studied mechanical ect, now i know all parts. BUT knowing parts vs experience of working on them are different. Knowing about an alternator or stator is one thing.. crimping your fingers between 2 magnetic parts.. you learn. (thankfully i didn't, BUT had a close OCRAP.. as it did snap back on and caught me surprised.)
Thanks a ton for the comment. I’m very glad that the video helped, as that was my intention in the first place (to guide people through this install). Things can seem quite intimidating at first, but hopefully people realize they can do it if I can too. I’m very glad to hear your experience went well and that you’re back at it! Great work on the troubleshooting too. Best wishes - TWT!
Great video! I had to replace my gasket. I was trying to figure out why the case was so hard to take off. That's one strong magnet. Nipped my finger putting it back on .....ouch!!! Thanks brotha be safe out there.
I believe according to the parts diagram the thing washer goes last on 15:43. Correct me if I’m wrong the diagram has 2 #5 washers that are thicker and the 1 #6. The 6 washer goes last on the diagram which is the thin one. Let me know I am doing mine today.
great vid homie!!! thank you. im waiting on my rectifier from Ricks motorsports now... so im just going to replace the stator also. This video makes it seem easy enough for me to do it myself. Thanks again... new sub. ps. I also see that you relocated your rectifier to the side of your frame. Hows that going for you? I am going to do that too.
Does yours have a clear case, like see through? I currently have a leak as well and thought it was the o ring but that didn’t do it, upon closer inspection it’s actually because of the clear window…now I gotta replace the whole cover :(
I’ve got the same problem now. I think it’s because of the gasket and I’m about to order a new original from Suzuki. Can I just open that up without draining the oil? Because I just changed it… Hope that putting a new gasket will stop the oil leak
@ace.m4 you can open it without draining oil, but still put a pan down below. There will be a good amount of oil that comes out. Nothing crazy like a quart or anything, but a decent amount stuck in the case and/or on the flywheel.
Well that way is the way the diagram shows. I did mine that way as well. I'm doing a few more jobs to my bike, so I didn't start her up today. In another video I saw, it was the thick one then the thin one too. How is your bikr running?
I mean, it will probably still run, but I like to stick to the manual to be honest. The hard metal one is supposed to be the closest to the engine. It sticks to the motor when you pull the assembly out. That other one might fall in the motor.
Hey I got a question for you..... when I took starter cover off the washer in that back that you said dont let it fall into engine....well it fell into engine. What is the easiest way to get it out ?
Hey man… So usually they’ll drop all the way to the oil pan. So you’ll most likely need to drop the exhaust, then remove the oil pan. It should be in there. When putting the pan back on, you can sometimes reuse the gasket that’s on there if it’s not broken or damaged, or sometimes I use yamabond
How do I calibrate the bolt that regulates overflow oil breather ? I keep getting oil on my shoes and I already replaced the cover 3 times with level oil and new gadgets every time .
Hey man I bought my 07 gsxr 750 rebuilt title and the Stator actually went and swapped it out but when I pulled the starter cover off and carefully removed the washer that goes in first I noticed I was missing the last hard washer before you put the cap on. I guess the entire time owning it it’s been like that and I cannot for the life of me find dimensions on that last hard washer that goes in. I can’t find it anywhere online was just looking to see if you had any ideas !? Thanks.
@Lui Sal nah man still running only 2 it still fires up it’s my daily it’s all I got for now in the thumbnail that’s it . Still can’t find that washer man
I did everything you showed in the video to replace my stator on my 08 gsxr 600 and my bike started up just fine and it runs smoothly but I have a slight concern. Is the the front end of my bike near where I just replaced the stator supposed to sound like a Yamaha R1M when it gets to the high rpm’s? It never did that before and it’s a little concerning
@@Phoenixx0420 if you ever hear noise from the stator area, shut it down right away and ensure the bolts are tightened to the cover. If they come loose, the flywheel that spins could be hitting the stator. Glad to hear it's good-to-go now and that you've done it again. Practice makes perfect!

@Zyzzfan1926 since you’re there, you may as well to be honest. I usually do the oil when I do my stator cover too, due to how much oil is in there, but it’s not needed. You can just fill it up to its good mark again.

You can check the part number on the inside of the cover. You'll usually also notice that the weight of an OEM cover is generally a little heavier than aftermarket ones. I would stick to the model number to ensure it's an actual OEM part though. As far as the gasket maker, I generally don't use that on these bikes. I order a gasket, throw it on and it tends to do really well. I've personally never used anything else besides the gasket itself on these bikes.
I have to replace my stator and rectifier. I had the same question about the gasket maker. Other videos show them using it. The stator cover on mine 750 has it too. Im going to try without it first. Thanks for the video. This is my first gsxr and im hype to change parts on it 🤣.
It's always best to drop the oil pan. IT IS NEVER good for any pieces to get in your engine. Generally with GSXR's, the metal will get pulled to the drain plug, but you'll probably want to drop that pan.
Which was what part? The hardest part in my opinion, is actually replacing the stator and cover. Unplugging it from under the tank isn't too complicated.

You don't put loctite on the 8mm's that hold the covers on do you? Just the ones holding the stators?
That is correct! Only on the three holding the actual stator down to the cover.
@@twowheelthings are they hard to get off when you need them to with the loctite
