I am 65 and I grew up listening to Springsteen and Smith do their versions of this. I’ll admit to never having heard of Garbage and Screaming Eagles until this appeared in my You Tube queue. If the number of views doubles in the next few weeks, that will be my doing. The torch has passed, and it burns brighter than ever thanks to the talents of Marissa and Shirley.

Mine too. So far 10 times since going to cat power, garbage and Alannis Morsette concert ! The ladies rocked it all night and so did the band with perfect instruments with the awesome vocals.

Am I terrible at finding stuff, is the youtube algorithm even worse, or is the people promoting Garbage inept? Something is not right.
A bit self-serving, but I have a version of Screaming Females cover of "Shake it off" on my channel. About two-thirds of the way through at the "You could be getting down to this sick beat" Marissa goes off for about two bars, then shuts it down with just enough shredding to make it distinctly theirs.

You know NPR, they tell you what's gonna be playing. Then 8 songs later, they tell you what's going to be NEXT. Any help out there?

Shirley Manson - greatly under-appreciated performer. Not just her singing and phrasing (so economical, never over-dramatic) but the way she moves as she sings - hard to describe, loose-limbed, effortless and perfectly in time with the players.

my then wife bought two tickets for them as a birthday present (she had her moments ;) and after a couple of classics shirley to the forefront of the stage holding hands with marissa (whom i hadn't heard of at the time) and talke about the Screaming Females and how Marissa was like her little sister and we could tell she was totally sincere, and we watched this petite woman grab a guitar taller than her...and such a sound, such a shredding solo came out of the speakers it was difficult to believe it was cute little marissa who made it...SHE AND shirley are tw forces of nature, and long live Garbage for using their aura to help other bands...that is really something more older and better know bands should do....

The original is one of my favorite songs. Other covers always make me just want to hear the original, but this one is excellent and totally stands up on its own. This girl Marissa is amazing on guitar. I saw this performed live in Montclair, NJ a few weeks ago, and it was so amazing.

Springsteen wrote the original melody but tossed it. Couldn't figure out how to complete it. That is why he never recorded it on any of his studio albums. It was just a thought. Patti Smith wrote almost all of the lyrics and made it into an Anthem. By any stretch of the imagination it is a Patti Smith song. Without her this song would have never seen the light. A spark from Bruce ignited a bonfire by Patti.

The soloing is far from impressive
It's very rare for an artist to cover a song and do it 10x better than the original, kudos to both bands on an amazing collab.
I still think Patti's is the best, she just has the vocal ability to do it up right . . . but this is the best cover by far. Kudos to the Screaming Females and Garbage for making this.

I have no clue who any of these performers are. Have heard of Garbage but thought they were old news...90s grunge. Regardless..when the little dark haired gal started signing I got goose bumps. I have known this song since it's late 70s debut. 10,000 Maniacs did a decent cover but these 2 gals vocals were incredible. Thanks for making an old metal head smile

I'm one of those that didn't know who SF were. Garbage performed at Art Park in Lewiston NY 2017 and when I heard that I started to watch Garbage videos on youtube discovering SF. I've been a Garbage fan since '95 and now a SF fan. SF plays in Buffalo at Mohawk Place in March. Can't wait.
