Patti Smith isn't a singer, she's a force of nature.
Yes!!
The original original artists
so is your moms mouth when shes sucking
Great Minds...think alike...
I agree with the first part, definitely
This is my neighbour's favourite song whether he likes it or not
Omg lol!
This song brings me back to the year i left school. I still have nightmares im still at school. Im 58.Love this song,so does my whole road, they don't know it yet.
Congratulations to him 😂
Lol
😂👍😘
Patti steals the stage with those vocals. So powerful.
Patti & Bruce killing it! And the nice little backup band is pretty good too!
just wish one of them would go further into the the background!
Patti Smith's performances fascinate me. She's so commanding as soon as she steps up to the microphone. Her voice, her demeanor, she's a force.
That prechorus always gets me!👌🏼
Some songs sound like they had always existed, like there was a need for them to be there. This is one of them.
When Patti Smith sings, I always get goose pimples on my arms, her voice is absolutely amazing
I absolutely adore her!
Bumps not pimples
The one time I got to see her. It was a spiritual experience.
I am an atheist.
@@lawsonransom8318did you even ask what they identify as?!? Geeze!
When patty smith sings I agree
U2+ Springsteen+Smith= LOVE
I’ve enjoyed every version of this song that I’ve heard. In April 2024, 14 years after it was new, I’m still trying to work out if this performance is my favorite.
Stunning. Bruce is always a generous performer. U2 don't miss a beat. The great Patti, astonishing.
yeah merica is generous!!!!!!!!!👍👍✌️✌️😎😎😎😎😤😤🥶🥵
It would be my greatest wish for the younger generation to love this song as much as I have for all these many years .. out ...
3 legends in rock performing a legendary song written by the boss..... Would have liked to see them live on stage together!!!!
I was there!
U2+ Springsteen+Smith= LOVE
when "queen patti" begins to sing i get goosebunps in 2 seconds----
That audience experienced something so very special
Still can't believe I was there that night. Sheer magic!
I envy you....Patti Smith....Wow.....
😀 I was there that night too. Unfortunately I fell asleep half way though...
sweet
Then you remember it took three takes to get it right!
So jealous
Ms. Smith's genuinely shy but incandescent smile makes this something for the angels....
Bruce Springsteen is a legend 👏
Yes
yeah merica!!!!!!!!!!!
now go back to sleep
so is Patti
Damn...that's Rock n Roll!!
You must be a delight to live beside
Patti, it always belongs to us.
What a perfect combination for this song! Patti, Bruce and Bono...just gets no better than this!!! Love it!
Yes...
A bit better, what Garbage and the Screaming Females do with this song in nothing short of epic.
@@theccpisaparasite8813 , ABSOLUTELY!!! I had never heard of Garbage and ... until I saw your post. I immediately did a search, found their cover of this song, and OMG, was I blown away!!! I'll place the link to their cover in a separate comment, so more people check it out and be thrilled too!
@@theccpisaparasite8813 ... and off topic, yet regarding your nickname, YES, the sickening CCP is surely a parasite, a truly evil one and it's been causing havoc worldwide for many decades! Enuf said! (at least in a public forum like this one).
Epic
These three LEGENDS together are simply brilliant. So amused....
Every time I hear this song I get the chills ☮️
The enjoyment they all share jamming out is priceless for sure. Simply beautiful
3:10
Man, what a joy, what an energy when they all sing together that line. I got chills.

You posted this a while ago and it's true. Now it's 2021 and Bruce will be turning 72.
YES! He still crushes it!
Dang dang dang!!!!!! 💜
Too many legendary people on one stage. Pure LOVE. Rock deities. #respect
How would you ever answer, "Which one is your favorite?"
And did you notice that "The Professor" Roy Bittan was on the piano too?
Doesn’t get any better than this
@@susandeason1356 I don’t know.. this might be better.

Un moment de grâce avec mes artistes préférés...
Patti is Wonderfull i love her.
Rock n Roll History as it happened......And the moment belonged to Patti Smith.....forever.....
I saw her live in a small venue back in 1979 and fought to the teeth for her bandana which she had tossed into the audience. She also smashed her guitar to bits on stage. Boy was she something and she's still got the voice. She hails from a small NJ town close to where I grew up. I wonder where she's living now and what occupies her time?
@@barbarabauer4426 did you get the bandana??
Jesus what a sound …what a performance. Chills
This song is a masterpiece
I'd love you if I wasn't already gone
Huh lol @@lawsonransom8318
This gives me chills.
THERE ARE NOT WORDS TO DESCRIBE HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS......
Chills when Bruce and Patti walk out and we see Bono, a musical giant himself, bow to Patti, a musical legend.
Definitely
There’s a cool backstory to this…
U2 has been around almost as long as a Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith. But they’re in different age groups. They were only teenagers when they started. When they were young Patti Smith was one of their favorite artists and major influences. Even in how she’s such a physical singer.. just like Bono.
So when Bono said “this is the song we wish we’d written“ and “we had to make something special happen tonight“ that wasn’t just hollow rhetoric. He meant it. The 4 guys in the band grew up absolutely adoring Patti Smith
I'm at a loss for words. Simply amazing.
Because to nignt vaya temazo la voz de Patty Smith junto Bruce Sprinter y U2.
La perfección absoluta es como quedarse en éxtasis.
Un Saludo.
Insanely brilliant 👏
its just iconic when all three sing together, i just instant get a Gänsepelle (german Word for goose pelle)
Just what I needed to restore my faith in music, and in humanity
Patti really inspires me to be myself no matter what anyone thinks
Simply and Outrageously F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C
Brilliant
Two legends.
I wish I was there 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Bests from the bests
Bruce is so humble when sharing the stage with others. He always hangs back as if he’s almost uncomfortable being there but allowing his peers to shine. Seriously still one of my favorite live performances of any song. The whole 25th annual shows were incredible.
You should see him in Roy Orbison's Black and White Night.
Technically U2 is sharing the stage however Geniuses in any field known that collaboration makes them better. Think of singers now they wouldn’t share a stage with anyone because of their egos...
Bruce wrote the chorus... Patti wrote the rest of the lyrics.,.... greatest song!!!
EXACTLY
He really is remarkably humble. It just jumps off the screen. Paul McCartney is the same way. I’m amazed at how humble PM is considering who he is.
Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen togheter are amazing
I have seen U2, Bruce, and Patti since they are at the top of my favorites. I love this. This is what heaven will be like for me.
All three of them have very different stage presences. So amazing to see!
WOW..
WOW ( all the legends
BRRUUUUUCE playing his song together with Patty. WOW. BRUUUUUCCE
I was singing this full volume today in my car❤️😇
Good god what a performance by all
What an absolutely fantastic version of this song!! Amazing musicians all!!
Love, love, love Bruce Springsteen! Everything he does is 100-plus-%! I'm such a huge fan of Bruce AND Patti. Love you guys!!
All three are poets.
Patti, the only woman on stage. Classic rock is very much a male dominated art form. She is legend.
the illusion is powerful , to those with eyes to see and ears to hear
This is what Rock Is all about - a fusion of great talents a superb version
waaauw i get tears in my ey,s from this song....its amezing.....
Bruce Springsteen is a legend 👏
this song has incredible strength even after so many years!
Always love this by Patti back in the day!
The Boss brings it everytime
Bruce Springsteen top i love you; love'smorroco
Absolutely.. epic
Gosh what a treat ❤ patty bruce u2
I love Patti so much! O, and Springsteen and U2 too.
Patti has more stage presence than both Bono and Bruce, for this song. She’s so confident. Love it!
Always liked her !
Me too .....and what a song it will always be...thank you...❤😊
Good morning to all....
nope
Absolutely
Wow wow wow omg 🔥🔥🔥👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤩❤️🎶 three greats of true music, admirable 🤩
I love the long cuffs
Bruce Springsteen really enjoyed himself there! And it is interesting to see him playing with such energy while the Edge is playing so laid back and both achieving the same greatness.
3 legends on stage !!!! 😁
They are sensational! True musicians together on one stage - it's priceless!
Patti Smith is amazing love this song
Love them all💕💕💕. But Bruce, no words
BELLISSIMA PERFORMANCE for the BEST song of LOVERS
Bruce fighting with his guitar again! 😆
Happy 69 birthday Patti! love you, love U2 and love Bruce..xoxo
+Maria Pratiwi Wow Patti is older than Bruce? I would not have guessed that.
This live Rock & Roll Hall of Fame music collaboration of U2 Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith for Because the Night is a music wizardry sensation, I wish that I would have known about this version multiple years ago when it was first released, at least I know about this collaboration now.
Not sure this sounds good to me but it is definitely a force - so much power and energy and soul. I’m obviously missing something but this isn’t something I’d listen to without being able to see them. 😆
Just finished reading my late husband's copy of 'Just Kids'.
Listening to this powerhouse version seemed a good epilogue.
Patti, Bruce & U2-amazing 🌌 💙
If you listen to these 3, you know how good music sounds like
oh my gosh just discovered this and I have goosebumps!!!
When people talking about performing music with "feel", THIS is what they're talking about, Thank You Patti Smith. Wow!
3:10 Love to see Larry singing too!
they sound so good together :)
this must have been EXCESSIVELY epic to experience in person
NO DOUBT
Amazing!!! Utter RESPECT!
Exellent 🥃☘️
All I can say is wow, wow wow, wow, so much talent on one stage amazing
They're simply fantastic!
Because of the night❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Como siempre Bruce el mejor de todos❤❤
I love them both, 💞 Bruce and Patti! 🤗♥️🇵🇹
Just another throwaway outtake from the "Darkness On The Edge Of Town" album." I give Patti all the credit it in the world. She transformed it into a love song that Bruce admitted he did not have the courage to pen at the time, but the heart & soul of the song exists on Bruce's original studio bootleg version of the tune. Patti's lyrics elevated it.
Bruce wrote it PATTI COMMANDS IT
Pattis' cover in 1978, is by far the pick of them. She was at her peak then.
Pattis' cover in 1978, when she was at her peak was the best.
I always loved this song and I still love it.
Years ago that was U2 that introduced me to Patti Smith - through their great b-side rendition of Dancing Barefoot. It's so wholesome to see such artists respect each other, and their joy on stage
