I used an angle grinder with a diamond blade. Worked awesome, buzzed thru the plastic like butter and melted a lot of the plastic into a kind of cotton candy type material (easy to clean up) then used a drill to do the accessible end and snapped the far end. used the drill and a razor knife to clean up the roughage afterwards. hope this helps someone. need some experience with a grinder tho don’t want to cut yourself or something important. i removed the wire harnesses next to the box in precaution beforehand.

Thank you for taking the time to do this video AND for doing it from start to finish!
I did this for a 2013 Tahoe LT. The process was exactly as you showed with your Silverado. As someone commented on your Part 3 video, I also used an oscillating tool with standard cutting blades; my blade set (Ridgid) includes a tiny one that I used for the end cuts. I didn't try it, but I think that a Dremel tool with cutting discs might also make things a bit easier. I cleaned up the cut edges with some sandpaper and vacuumed to be sure that it was all clean.
I got the "Dorman 259-200 Cabin Air Filter Retrofit Kit" from Amazon, which came with the plate and screw that are needed to complete the installation.

We could probably thank the bean counters at GM for deleting that filter and door option. “If we don’t throw in a filter and a door we’ll save $12 bucks on each p/u and suv that we produce !” Probably the person who came up with that idea got a promotion and saved the company literally millions !

I have a 2012 with the same set up except mine does not have the plug for the screw, and like you I can't understand why they did not include a filter hatch, but behind the glove box there's a small filter that I can't get to, so I used my air hose and blow air in and around but I wish I can get it out and replace it. It looks like there are riveted in place.

I followed the described process 5/17/2022. I was successful but cutting the plastic was very difficult. It is way too thick for a utility knife with a new blade. I tried an oscillating saw with two different blades. It cut the plastic but also melted the plastic. I also used a small hand saw with a metal cutting blade which helped in some places. I also add that a large person will likely find it difficult to get into the required position to remove the cover and saw out the rectangular plastic piece. I'm still sore from yesterday.

Reset the code and still would stay on. Disconnected the battery and still light still on. So took the filter out and left the retrofit cap on then it blew hot on drivers side and cold on passenger side. Turned the truck off and back on now everything is working great cold air and no check engine light. Haven't had an issue since

The problem is that Chevrolet/GMC is starting to slack.... There is no reason why I should cut in an access point with my MacGyver knife so I can put incabin air filter.......there should be an access door with a bolt to begin with.....it's poorly designed...
Then it's my responsibility to buy the kit so that there is a door so I could access it again next time...right
The reason I'm disappointed in Chevy is because there wasn't even an air filter inside....it was empty....🤔 Chevy is negligent and doesn't put cabin air filters in the vehicles or it may be an mistake from the factory. In any case it's 100 percent negligence
No wonder why my son gets sick...WTF....a buck of hacks...I'm tempted to by a Dodge or Ford next time.....what a joke...

It is user preference. GM gave us an option to add a CAF for who’s interested. I have installed tens of these for customers with no issues. It’s actually simple when you know what you’re doing. The plus side is that now, after opening the area, you can clean your a/c evaporator coils anytime extremely easy.
For the people that are wondering why GM haven’t done it from factory, to my knowledge it is because GM realized that a lot of people don’t know about a (cabin air filter) so they never change it. Now, the the same people file complaints about the a/c or blower working poorly. That was in the previous models of 2007 new body style. So GM decided to eliminate the caf on 2007+ trucks and SUV’s because it is considered a potential liability on them from the volume of cases.
“That’s my own interpretation”, I think it makes sense if that’s the case. Anyway, they put them back on the newer models.
I only wanted to clear things up because I see a lot of folks looking at it from a naive perspective. Knowledge is a blessing. Don’t rush with conclusions whether you’re biased or not.
      Best of luck to all!
      Your Saudi Mechanic
