    Awesome thank you for sharing. I was going nuts trying to figure out why i couldn't find the filter.

    Capt Jack -- I started trying to cut the plastic out today -- What a PAIN! This is by far the worst job I ever tried to do! Nothing in my vast assortment of tools is a match to this thing! I am now looking at a Dremel Type Tool with a rotary shaft and some type of cut off blades! DANG! You have to be a contortionist to even be able to close to work under that thing!

    Your patience is impressive. Can’t believe GM requires you retrofit this

    Thanks for the video Captain Jack! Unfortunately my 2004 Chevy Silverado did not have that groove at all! I don't believe GM put that groove in until the 06 or 07 model trucks. That made it doubly hard to cut out the plastic at the bottom of the filter compartment. It took a good bit of time and a lot of patience along with a very sharp utility blade. Once I cut through the plastic in several places I also used a hacksaw blade to finish the cut. I suggest using a file afterwards to smooth out the rough edges and remove any burrs. I was then able to clean the coils using a toothbrush and my shopvac and I also used my air compressor blow gun accessory to really clean it out well. Put the filter in and then installed the retrofit panel to seal it up. My A/C flow is better now with very clean coils and the musty smell is gone!
    Just a word of caution to anyone else who plans on doing this retrofit project, be careful! If you have an older model truck like mine without that groove to cut along, you DO NOT want to cut the side of that filter compartment or you will have to repair that to make sure it's all sealed up. Also, be careful not to cut yourself with that very sharp utility knife. The entire process took me a bit over an hour so just make sure you have the time and patience for this project. In my opinion, it was well worth it though.

    Hello, my Silverado C 2500 2007 has the area where the filter would go solid shot, no groove to guide me for the cut, and it did not have the lid. so the space to receive the filter is there, unless I would have to cut the area so I could place the filter. Thanks.

    What month was this truck manufactured? Other posts online say GM did not use a cabin filter from 07-13. The truck I'm working on is 02/08 manufactured date and the air duct is different than in this video!!

    Just wondering, I have a 2008, or 2007 Sierra. (I can’t remember if it’s 07 or 08 but I don’t think it matters) does my truck have a factory filter in it? If so, why would I do this instead of just replacing that? The smoke from the wildfires is kicking my butt, so I would really like to get a fresh filter in here ASAP.

    • @luckyangelinusa1750
      @luckyangelinusa1750  3 роки тому

      As far as I know you do not have a factory filter. The housing is there and it just needs to be cut open and install a carbon filter.

    Patience? Really? A freaking tile knife? I had to use a freaking grinder with a ceramic tile blade to cut mine out and when I finally got it cut out, I stuck a screw driver in there and when I pulled it out it had slivers of aluminum on it because someone forgot to tell me that it didn't have a filter, so after I figured out what a air conditioner evaporator is, I installed the filter but I had to practically destroy it to get it n there because of no clearance between the hole and the floor. Then I tok a hammer and beat the shroud the rest of the way out and burned it. Put duct tape on the hole,. I had to repent and get babtized again for all the cussing and I used the tile knife to start cutting myself again.

    Did you remove the old factory one or leave it in place? My truck smells like ketchup when I first cut the ac on and I think I need to remove the old one. It looks to be placed to the left of the slot cut out so just wondering how you got it out or if you did.

    • @luckyangelinusa1750
      @luckyangelinusa1750  3 роки тому

      Yes it is to the left and can easily be pulled out with needle nose plyers . There should be a tab hanging out that you can pull also. If not ise plyers.

    • @luckyangelinusa1750
      @luckyangelinusa1750  3 роки тому

    CHEVROLET did a boneheaded maneuver on this CAF set up, especially in my 2014 Chevrolet Suburban LT 1500. Car maker should have designed a removable flap at the bottom of the CAF case.
    Just plain stupid!!

      The filter should have an arrow on it indicating air flow. It should be going towards or pointing towards the driver's side. The blower motor is to the left of cabin air filter compartment.
