  • How to modify a 2004 Chevy Silverado to accept a cabin air filter. My truck didn't come with an air filter but you can still cut out the slot under the dash in the heater core housing and slip one in...you will also have to install a cover plate which you can order online. Links below

This is the same as my 2004 Suburban. What a pain. This helps quite a bit. It could have saved me hours. I have to figure out how to cut the bottom out without a torch.

Just did this mod except I used cabin air filter CF8791A, which is a 2 piece air filter. 1) I didn't have to cut out the whole length of the air filter hole. 2) Fitting up the 2 small filters is a lot easier than trying to bend and cram in 1 large filter because of how close the floor is.

If you are watching this now, some advice.
If you try to use compressed air to blow out the area thinking it will work? Use caution.
You might damage the blend door flaps with high pressure Asian 120 psi. Reduce the pressure a whole bunch. Or just forget that idea altogether.

@Jay Who knows. One thing I did notice is that now water collects on my evaporator. However I was also pulling out leaves and pine straw that collected in it without the filter. I'm just glad I have a filter.
I had issues during a forest fire where I couldn't breath without a filter. Then corona came and I thought it was about time to install it.

@@allancivitello3771 evidently you were the one not paying attention. Try listening again. After 2002 until recently GM manufactured Silverado’s without cabin filters but left the void.. perhaps Frank cut the piece out some time prior to video and was replacing the filter but showing how and where,

it was because the hump that is right below blocks the installation of the filter, you have to bend the filter to get it in. GM redesigned the trucks with less hump after 2014, and they added the cabin filter at that time.

well...I pulled a dead mouse out of the compartment which is what lead me to clean the whole system out and integrate the cabin air filter MOD. Also...it was the only gloves I had on hand and I'm cheap.
