    This is not the first time UA-cam has come to my rescue. I just fixed the fast idle on my '98 Dakota. Now it runs better than it has in YEARS! Cost me $44.00, and took about 30 minutes. Saved me a grip in garage costs. High five to youtube!

    These were EXCELLENT instructions and made this job super simple!!! Unfortunately it didn't solve my particular problem so I just replaced the Idle Air Control Valve with the help of another youtuber, it was absolutely nasty! It started right up and seems to be running smoother. I don't regret changing both parts, I've read that it's a good idea to change them both at the same time anyway. Thanks again, you saved me a lot of time and grief!

    Anyone with a Chrysler/Dodge/Ram/Jeep etc from 1996 1997 1998 1999 etc with the jtec style computer (the same ones in the '98 Dodge Dakota), there is a simple solution to the random rough idle and stalling issues. Remove the left torx screw on the PCM computer, add two washers and then replace the screw. Can do the same with the other side, but do them one at a time. The screw seems to be just long enough to eventually ground out a component inside the computer and cause the engine to stall out. Didn't believe it myself, but when I pressed on the screw there in the front the engine died and backing the screw out fixed the issue. On warm days or once the engine was warmed up, the thermal expansion must have been just enough to momentarily ground the component.

    I had an erratic idle on a 2002 Durango (4.7L) and the TPS was the culprit. Easy, 10 minute repair. And it was only about $30 for an aftermarket part.

    i have a 2001 dakota v8 5 speed. what are the odds it is the throttle postition sensor. when i push the clutch in as im coming to a stop the idle drops really low and acts like it wants to stall. but never does. also when i have the ac button on it seems to help with this and tones it down but still idles crazy just not as much

    Eric, to be honest I can't remember much about the final diagnosis on that particular vehicle. The family member that owned it sold it not long after I shot those videos, so I never had it back at my shop again.

    ive got a 93 bronco with a high surging idle and somtimes its a low surging idle. The TPS and IAC sensors both look new. I was told if the TPS was put on backwards it could cause this problem, is that correct? Thanks!

    what do you think of replacing the v6 throttle body with a v8, is it worth it. TB from the salvage yard are $25.

    I have the same truck and I just changed my throttle position sensor out and I still have the same problem. I changed the sparkplugs, the sparkplug wires, distributor cap and valve and the ignition coil. But I still have the same rough idle and my truck will sometimes randomly stall. I don't know what to do anymore. I'm thinking about selling my truck because I'm sick of trying to figure out what's wrong. 😔

    does it matter which way you twist the tps? I put mine in yesterday, how do you know if you put it on wrong? my 2000 dodge Durango isn't idling high no more just want to make sure.

    I have 92 Dodge Dakota 3.9L V6 Auto it spits sputters and backfires every cold start for about 10 to 15 min and after a busy day it will not shift into 3rd gear unless i am holding my food down on the gas pedalbut the second i let off the gas pedal and bairly put it back on it down shifts to second i dont know if all this is connected but i am not getting a check engine light and cant figgure it out and honestly dont have a lot of money to put into it but i have to fix it. do you have any knowlege in this area? i took it to a shop and they said it was the o2 senser and i changed it and its still having the issue and i have replaced the throttle position senser still no chage. so if you have anything thoughts that can help that would be awesome thanks for your time.

    I have a 99 Dodge Dakota V6 Magnum, and at times I can be driving down the road and it just stops. I try to restart it and it will not start. If I wait for about 20 minutes and try to start again it will then start. Could this have anything to do with the throttle position sensor? If not do you have any ideas?

      Wayne Case any information for this? I have a 1998 Dakota doing the same that Harry mentioned. However it usually starts right back up. Replaced ignition coil, dist. cap, plugs, wires, coolant temp sensor, pre cat 02 sensor, sprayed throttle plate, fixed some wires, and still dies randomly and misfires often times but totally randomly.

      Cam or crank sensor

    • @jslm97
      @jslm97 6 років тому +2

      It can also be the PCM connection. I just tested and any time the connectors are wiggled around the truck dies every time. On the road it is random, and may be an internal issue rather than wiring on the outside

    some models do not require the gasket to be used, i know because i have pretty much the same truck mine is a 97 with a 5.2 i replaced the TPS and the OEM one i removed didnt have one and instructions that came with new one stated "place gasket (if needed) if you go to parts store you would most likely get a generic sensor for many applications if you go to dealer to get OEM you will pay for it just some info (lol i laughed when i read your reply though)

    got a 98 v6.my code tells me its a Throttle/Pedal Sensor High Imput.im assuming either the sensor on the throttle body or the accelerator pedal is either sending/receiving too much voltage,or the TPS has gone awry and the control module cannot pair the two sensors together as having a matching position message.i have noticed a complete, although momentary, loss of power when closing in on 2k rpms and shifting gears.anyone help me narrow this down?

      Can't with this truck. It's IN the gas tank. Of course, you could pull the whole tank off, but that's a pain!
