I like that you get it fixed right 😀 I would have done two things before replacing the switch and if it mostly fixed it, may have left it at that.. leading to a bad computer I guess lol First would have been cleaning the throttle body. Second would have been cleaning the contacts of the sensor and disassemble it if able for further cleaning and inspection. Then while in there I'd probably clean the maf or map, anything I might have taken apart to get the TB off for a full cleaning. Lol
Great tip with the screwdriver mimicing the bumps and vibrations of the road and engine. For the adjusting of the TPS, how does that work? Is there just an allowable tolerance spec you put it in and mount it?? 🤔
I have 1989 Ford F250 with a 351ci 5.8L V8 and because my scan tool doesn't work on OBD and OBD 1 systems. I pulled the code with the blinking check engine light. and got a 53 code and came up with TPS circuit above maximum 4.5 volts. but I'm not sure what the parameters are supposed to be for that particular TPS. or if it's something in the circuit that is out of range.
4.5 volts is about Max which means your throttle blade is fully open in other words you're pedal is to the metal. Add idol your truck likes to be at about . 98 volts. When you test your throttle position. Just be sure to use the black wire as your ground source and not another point on the frame or battery to get your negative on your voltmeter.
Interesting i was just watching videos about power and ground side switches. Cool to see how to use logic when not having a diagram and scope in hand. Thank you sir.
I had a 91 Camaro 3.1 L engine that puked the TPS sensor at 93K miles and it had all the symptoms with erratic idle and was easily validated. Also, given the amount of miles on the odometer, it is very common that a good many vehicles for the mileage of 90K miles or better for the TPS to fail. Also, knowing that my Mom had the ECU replaced by the dealer already for another problem all together previously. Upon replacing the TPS sensor, I also took the liberty of cleaning the IAC Valve pintle and also inside the IAC port housing for good measure! I also did cleaning of the internal throttle valve body and the mass airflow sensor as a scheduled service!
You are a God because you know what you didn't even know I had this problem at the moment of trying to identify without that diagnostic tool that you were talking about but yes thank you so much I do have a multimeter
Great video! What would cause a 1988 F150 300 six manual shift to jerk and surge when letting off the gas peddle. New TPS , ICV , wires, cap and rotor. Runs and idles great. Thanks Larry
Hello i have Toyota rush 2006 , i ve cleand throttle body and know the engine is working 2rmp. I suppose there is a problem with tps sensor. Could you please help me hot to solve this problem? Thanks so much 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Finally a video with 4 pins 📌 Would the idle switch create surging/ bucking engine light on not flashing all simultaneously.. thus happens about 10 miles into driving. If I turn car off five minutes or even 5 hours it seems to start the time of miles again before it repeats. Other than this runs excellent and great gas mileage 😮😊
On a Honda Accord EX 2.4 l I have a good ground 5 volts and TPS adjusted to .5 ohm resistance level. Gives .5V to 4.5V signal on the PWM. It works great get restarted once still good 20 minutes it slowly goes bad again? I don't really have a $170 for a wiring expert to go digging until maybe they find it. Redid pig tail crimp rewired the ground to the chassis. P0122 Low Voltage code pops up again. Every time I checked it with the car on without running it gets exactly 5 v
Ty for this 4 wire vid, i think the 12v wire on my hiace is faulty. its not changing when i open the throttle, just stays on 12v. might throw a new tps at it :)
i do have on channel 60 in VCDS 2 values from potenciometed...i tought they should be oposite to each other (3% - 97%), but they show the same value...is that correct or is one of them dead? its fabia 1.4 from year 2000 electronic throttle. i do have too much presure in intake manifold on idle like 800mbar, my main suspect is faulty throttle.
I see u check d tps jack ground wire with your meter with d ignition switch on an meter on continuety. D first check meter béep second check no beep is it right 2 check voltage with meter on cotinuety scale
Hello bro, please is there any way you can check for power and ground side of ECU without a wiring diagram? please let me know and I will appreciate it.thank you
Help! Hi, I have problem of my throttle body, It is open 100% all the time. And i am getting 11.8 V, 3.2 V, 12.2V and 0 volts on the wiring harness. What is the correct voltage of the wiring harness? I checked also at the pcm and gott the same voltage. The car is VW golf plus 1.9 tdi automatic gear, 2007 model.
I'd be interested in seeing a teardown showing the failure mode of the sensor. I'm gonna guess that it's corrosion caused by water ingress, but I've been surprised before. Could just be a mechanical failure I suppose. That said, it worked out for you this time, but back-probing will bite you in the ass one day. One day you're gonna waste a bunch of time over a poor back-probed connection. I'd go straight to Pomona piercing probes.
Only paid $55,000 for the vehicle - been running good for the past 6 years - why would I want to spend $65 for a new TPS just because the check engine light illuminates - I mean HEY, it only does it periodically 😐😏😳
I know you're a very busy man, but I look forward for every new upload of your wisdom.
Watching a professional mechanic troubleshoot live was actually really helpful 👍
Class is in session, I'm taking notes for the test. I always enjoy stopping by the shop!
Everything is a lesson! Allways picking up tidbits
Excellent troubleshooting. I liked how you went through what also worked and moved on to checking the TPS switch.
Thank you for this video! Very interesting! If the "store" had this in stock, it must be a common failure on these cars.
Good to see you are back.
The last time I wacked my sensor it was sore for two or three days. Eventually everything started working well again. Seriously though great info man!
Is your sensor a "pull up design or a pull down" design? :)
@@wyattoneable does both. 😁

Thats how you do it and that how great people share their knowledge. Stay blessed Sir
I love learning new stuff like this! Keep it up.

This was awesome. Excellent explanation. Would love to see this for other sensors, esp. 02 sensor or nox sensor for diesel.

Love that u did this live. We learned together 😃
Excellent diagnostic tutorial! Thank you!
very good explanation , thanks and good timing for me because I am trying to diagnose a problem with my 2000 mazda .

Great stuff !

Hi . Great as usual
Can you please explain how to test the 7 pin MAF that came in kia sephia 94 1.6 L AT please ?
Thank you
Finally a video with 4 pins 📌

I hope this is information relative to my problem. 1983 is likely not the same as a 2012, eh?

Wait a minute. let me get this straight. You want us, all of us, to whack our sensors?
Good show
Nice work
Thanks for sharing
Thanks
🙏
I have a '98, so filing all these potential problems away just in case. 25 yrs. and so far, so good.
i thought TPS range was ~ 0.5 to (4,5...) and not zero at idle, no peddle. True?
Really helped
So to fix your problem don't let that guy bang on the switch with a screwdriver anymore 🤣
Thank you!!!
yeah 90's lexus and toyota ecus have leaking capacitors problems
what happens if i accidentally check the others for continuity to ground?😢
Perfect vudeo!
Super helpful
My idle switch is always at 11v, stuck there. I put a new tps and its still like that. any ideas?
My 05 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP is fly by wire and has 17 pins. Not a big fan of fly by wire.
Okay now I'm commenting while I'm watching I have way more wires to my throttle position sensor

It's not water, the issue is heat so the plastic inside get damaged. Lexus gs300 mk2 98-05, has absolutely the same tps drama...
what causes of i've got ground over 100
Damn u good bro wel done
That is weird. I don't understand how an off and on switch can give intermediate voltages.
Because its broke
It’s not a switch, a potentiometer
👍👍
Lexus cars break?
😀😃
LS 4 hunnid
I had a throttle position sensor go bad on me the car took off 200 miles an hour I had to shut the car off put it in neutral very scary situation
What kind of car will go 200 mph ?

Good video ! Thank you ! God Bless !!! John 14:9 KJV Bible !!! Jeremiah 17:7-8 KJV !!!

In the end it's a bad car
Now, how do you properly calibrate it's position to the throttle plate? IAC, RPM, Voltages, Variations?
How's the Cali weather these days?
