as a qualified AMG mechanic i can tell that you can replace the rpm sensor without changing the gearbox, however it can mess up the atmospheric pressure in your inner door card....
The conductor plate is what you need to replace, I think the technical term for that sensor is “turbine speed sensor” I don’t even think you can replace that sensor separately, it comes together with the conductor plate. I’ve replaced them before on the 5g tronic and 7g tronic Mercedes transmission, the 5g is easier because it does not need programming, the 7g (which is what this car has) needs to be programmed after being replaced. The part here in the states is about 250 US dollars plus fluids and filter. You’re gonna drop the trans pan, remove the valve body and behind that is the conductor plate. Not hard at all to do. You’ll need someone with Mercedes tools to program it though. It’s just an hour labor time to program it so you can have it programmed at the Mercedes dealer. Your transmission is a variant of the 7g-tronic transmission but it’s the DCT version instead of the torque converter style in the basic 7g. Still has the conductor plate like the basic one.
This doesn’t have the regular 7g it’s a completely different set up engine at front and gearbox at the back with the diff not as easy to do as the ones found in the normal cars
Hi Chris. Great vid... And thanks for the Mivia plug - excellent. Just one thing... Don't let Olivia sit with feet on the seat. If you stack it and airbag deploys, she'll be in traction for months.....
I've had a gearbox changed on a 2019 GT-R. What I can say to you is If you talk to Mercedes center, not only the dealer they will end up taking care (they will cover part of the cost) of you as this is a common problem. Also there is a second route that is rebuilding the gearbox. Mercedes don't sell any spare parts for the box but this getrag gearbox is installed in many supercars (7 gear modern dct Ferraris, Mclaren, Ford GT, etc...). Ferrari does indeed sell a partout of this gearbox so you can get spare parts trhough them or other manufacturers that use this same gearbox.
@@TheGalifrey I’ve done a few of them. I’ve done a couple on the 5g-tronic and on the 7g. The 5 speed is a lot easier, no programming needed, the 7 speed needs programming.
Hey Chris. I had a similar problem with my C class. I called Mercedes and complained that with it being a common problem they should subsidise in some way. They called me back and agreed that I pay for the module and they supplied the labour. Saved me over a grand. Thanks Mercedes.
Please tell your girl friend to be careful, having your knees up with your feet on the seat or dash will end badly in an accident if the airbag goes off… they go off with enough force to break bones 😮 just want you to stay safe.

Hi Chris. That's really unbelievable, because I live very close to where you parked your car at the beginning of the video, at Lake Traboch. On the road up to Präbichl, you could have stepped on the gas more ;-). Cool road trip from you and awesome content that you are producing. Keep up the good work.
This car has a transaxle and the gearbox has been used also in a Ferrari. The first generation has a recall for failing but if you don’t you can expect serious costs
Some trip that 👌🏽keep it up!! I’d recommend a camera man/woman or a steady hand or maybe some Camara holders while driving the constant shaking and turning made it an annoying watch, every time your missus got the camera and filmed you it seemed better
Love your content! Saw you're having trouble with the sensor on your car, I might have a solution - we've got one at our parts shop from a parts car. Authentic and in great condition
Im going to have to tell my brother the price of the gear box, fingers crossed his GT doesnt get the same issue. Sure you can fix it Chris, your a good mechanic.
Have you changed the size of the wheels from the ones that come with the car? If so , you may need to re program the control unit with the size that you have fitted or Road test with the correct size that came with the vehicle. try look at this first as it may be a calculation/calibration that’s confusing RPM signal, and possibly giving you an incorrect speed you are travelling. Also trying this and looking at this will be a lot of cheaper than just jumping in and putting a box in it or replacing the RPM sensor . Let me know how you get on cheers
