As a keen Audi driver, who's been owning and buying Audis exclusively for the last 15 years now, the one advice i can give you guys is: don't buy a FWD Audi. If you are going for an Audi, get a quattro one, otherwise simply get a VW and you will be much more happy. Doesn't matter if you buy a 20yo or a brand new one. The quattro system is what makes the car worth it. Doesn't matter if it's A3, A4, A5, A6, A7 or A8 - for any given segment VW have a better and cheaper to run and maintain option when you throw away the AWD system. If this was a 1.8T Quattro A4, the results would've been totally different, even for the braking test.
@33:03 I had a BMW e46 318i...04 reg... Great interior...Great handling...Great engine in all its oily glory...Never let me down though...Back arches rusted badly though...
I'm selling an A4 like that, 2.0 petrol in black. She's been our family workhorse for over 12 years, never missed a beat, very very comfortable, good MPG if you know how to drive her properly. My only complaint would be the glovebox that will break on every single one of those, but I fixed it. Wipers: very common, spray some WD40 behind the nuts and it will come back to normal, Bosch blades don't squeak like that.
had to change my a3 wiper linkage (23 year old so same model as the a4 for many components). There is a design flaw that allows a little water ingress so the wiper linkage then seizes. Over engined motor so it can handle it slowing down until fully seized - wipers feel amazing now! and it is a v.easy fix.
@@silverlitewayyeah, i had to do my B5 twice, 5 years appart. but i take out the linkage and unseize it. last summer did my B7, because it also seized. hope i dont have to do B7s again, because its a pain to get the linkage out, without dismantling/removing alot of stuff around it. 😂 the B5 one is way easier to get out.

as a 318 owner myself... I must say the. tax / insurance / fuel. aka the yearly cost needs to be updated to include about 1k in cooling system repairs 1k in suspension components and 1k in random gaskets.
I got an 2003 318i myself and I didn't have any major problems at all, no cooling system repairs, no suspension problems. Only thing I changed is the timing chain and I had fixed some oil leaks.
@klouuddd4263 ye well not all of them but certainly many. I mean the steering wheel shaking at higher speed as he mentions in the video is already a giveaway for a bad wishbone which my car had also. Me and my friend who also has a 318 both experienced cooling system problems. with him having two explosive failures in this year alone. and me having constant coolant loss due to a leaking expansion chamber and my head gasket was fucked aswell as oil leaks from the oil filter housing gasket and oil pan gasket

Modern AKA junk, yes. Audi isn't even in the same conversation as BMWs and Mercs from this era. Build quality alone isn't in the same stratosphere. These days it's a different story because the latter 2 have gone down to the level of Audis.

Nobody buys a N/A A4 2.0 for a grand when you can get a 1.8t for the same cash lol.
I own the same Audi 2.0, and I previously smoked the 1.8t on a dual carriageway. Be careful about some 1.8t engines IE the TT mark 1, the tax on it is insane. I originally wanted (around 2012) to get a 1.8t Saab like your avatar, but Saab packing up made me worried about parta availability in the future.
@@Manu-Officialno you didn’t lol
@@Manu-OfficialI used to own a 2 na A4 and there’s no way it would smoke a 1.8T. Now got the tt mk2 Quattro and it will smoke all of them 👍
The 2.0 isn't very good, it will sludge up unless regularly serviced with decent oil.
@@Manu-Official you didnt smoke 1.8t with a 2 liter bruh
I have been a follower for many years now, and I hardly ever comment. Of course we all like M4competition, Lambos, Ferraris, GT3Rss etc… But this type of cars in the video I can relate to more. Loved the budget and the approach to this video, sincerely. Maybe you mates should do a series of lower budget attainable cars for us to enjoy and relate to. Thanks from Barcelona.
I feel like the Mercedes wasn't represented fairly because of the dodgy engine...
It wasnt, but thats carwow for you

I have an A4 2.0 B6 in arctic white with the black leather here in SA with 762000km/473484,848miles. Had it since new in 2005 and it hasn't skipped a beat. Still rides like a dream (because of a lot of maintenance) Now time to watch the video and perhaps be disappointed with the results of the test 😅
We have a 3.0 V6 non quattro at home. (462000km)
Rides well (tons of maintainance)
Pulls hard too but needs a 6th gear.
We have a b7 1.8T that's on 297856 km still drives like a dream but when i have money i wanna do some upgrades on it
540 000km 1.9 TDI Avant here in Durban. 6 speed manual. Also I have WhatsApp group for B6 owners in South Africa

To be fair if they had a 1.8t they would also have to get a 330.

I lost it when Sam gave that sigh of disappointment 12:55 😂😂😂😂
I'm selling an A4 like that, 2.0 petrol in black. She's been our family workhorse for over 12 years, never missed a beat, very very comfortable, good MPG if you know how to drive her properly. My only complaint would be the glovebox that will break on every single one of those, but I fixed it.
Wipers: very common, spray some WD40 behind the nuts and it will come back to normal, Bosch blades don't squeak like that.
How much?
Price?
had to change my a3 wiper linkage (23 year old so same model as the a4 for many components).

Hey college agree a design for over 20 year like which is most modern looking but A4 B6 show me knobs of the lights and climate please originally even in Audi museum they have to restore they get scharch you even dont know what is that knob for also roof often just like to get near your head, si visitors most of Vag interior just started to collapse otherwise 1.9 Tdi is a strong as a legend maybe best ever vw audi engine but built inside defently E46 ,W203 before facelift is a bit like Audi yeah German but the brand not the build quality

as a 318 owner myself... I must say the. tax / insurance / fuel. aka the yearly cost needs to be updated to include about 1k in cooling system repairs 1k in suspension components and 1k in random gaskets.
The VW lupo and Isuzu Piazza also.
@@Brik2246 May I ask how many miles you’ve got on it? I bought mine from germany 4 years ago from the first owner with 106k miles.

One of the most fun videos on carwow. Ashame you didn't get 1.8t audi or like 3.0l Quattro that would be awesome:D
Why does carwow literally pick the worst Mercedes they can find and I’m not saying that cause I like Mercedes.
Because they want it to do bad. Because carwow is more like carsh[t
Probably because they couldn't find anything else in the price range of 1K.
But im happy to say the same, and I'm really like them!
Oh yeah because they have a LOT of options from a 1k budget

Modern AKA junk, yes.
Audi isn't even in the same conversation as BMWs and Mercs from this era. Build quality alone isn't in the same stratosphere. These days it's a different story because the latter 2 have gone down to the level of Audis.
