I gotta say, I appreciate you explaining things at such a base level. I'm sure the vast majority of your audience knows how a turbo works, what a clutch is, etc etc, but as someone who's car knowledge barely scratches the surface (even though I love cars), it makes a huge difference getting the 101 Class throughout haha. Erik is a genius! I'd love to learn a fraction of what he knows when it comes to engine tuning and electronics. Never seen someone rev a car like that remotely. Truly a one of a kind mind.
im not gonna s*** on what he did since the idea is very very awesome , but theoretically it shouldnt be all that difficult from a technical pov. i dont know what kind of signal the throttle needs, my monkey brain would guess something like a PWM, so u trim the ton/toff timing of the PWM with the trigger and just transmitt it via radio waves to the engine ICU the way you do on actual RC cars. you will need to fit a reciever to the icu tho.
@@M4xXxIkInG You nailed it. Thats basically what I did in a nut shell. The RC receiver outputs a PWM signal that corresponds with the trigger position. I sent that output of the receiver to the ECU and had it translate duty cycle into a throttle position request and start request. And there you go, RC controlled P1
Everything about this episode culminated with the first start, the heart attack 5,000 rpm start, then the RC start that actually scared me because my FELONY 6S BLX shot off across the garage into a packing blanket. Seriously though, I bet 100's of thousands of people will be cheering for you at that moment they see this episode. Thank Tavarish. Haha I feel you. It also scared me because I once had a runaway with one of my rcs. It went into a bike rack before I turned the radio off which stopped the car. Fortunately it happened with my slash 4x4 and not with my much heavier 1/8 kraton exb which would have caused a lot more damage.

The first thing I was excited to see were the custom turbos. So stoked you did this with the original designers for the P1 turbos. That’s the way to do it. This build has been so much fun to follow. I hope you continue to do extremely demanding builds like this in the future (I’m sure builds like this take their toll on your mental health and wallet though). You just don’t see builds like this on UA-cam. EVERYONE has done the same builds on UA-cam, at least, it feels like they have. This particular build is in a complete echelon of its’ own. Derek just casually setting up his camera for the CRX revival. lol. that was really awesome hooking him up with that car and setting him up with the lift to work. he always has to do his work in the dirt and weather to get a vehicle ready to drive home. glad to see the P1 getting some love on camera. you have some good friends around you.

Those welds on that oil tank are beautiful. Welding on something that was compromised especially unlevel thickness is extremely difficult to tig weld without blowing through. Guy definitely knows what he is doing. If it was cut out and replaced one would expect the welds ground clean but if he did you probably wouldn't have had much of a seal.
That official piece of McLaren test equipment was probably the coolest bit of kit I have ever seen. And seeing Freddy's face was worth watching this journey of insanity.

It’s a highly modified screamer now with a Partee Racing engine. I remember starting my fully rebuilt car for the first time a year ago with long tube headers and straight pipes on it. What an exciting moment that was. I can only imagine what it would’ve been like to do that with a P1. I hope to meet you one day, shake your hand, and talk some shop. I wish I had thought to put all of the automotive rabbit holes I went down on UA-cam 20 years ago…. I was taking them apart and putting them back together one photo at a time on the forums. I binge watched this entire season today, it's 3:22 am est, and I can't believe I was cheering and yelling by myself to my computer screen when the P1 finally started. This journey has been incredible, Freddy's been in the perfect position to undertake this monumental challenge, I believe there couldn't have been a more enthusiastic, deserving person to take on this project, and everybody that's given a hand has been absolutely brilliant. I can't wait to see this monster in person one day.

Switching from Inconel to titanium for the exhaust is actually a step down. Inconel is the go-to material for F1 and WEC exhausts for a reason-it handles extreme heat far better than titanium. Plus, just like titanium, Inconel is widely used in aerospace as well.

Switching from Inconel to titanium for the exhaust is actually a step down. Inconel is the go-to material for F1 and WEC exhausts for a reason-it handles extreme heat far better than titanium. Plus, just like titanium, Inconel is widely used in aerospace as well.
