The Aventador still beats in in terms of sheer theatrics and heart stopping looks, but that AMG is a nervously close second. It's so unlike anything else Mercedes makes and yet it has their DNA through and through. I love whatever mad genius concocted the concept and I love the brand even more for letting the lunatic actually build it.
The GTR Pro was the track focused and limited edition. The regular GTR was just the most powerful in the general line-up, as is this with less powerful versions available. Great video, as always, but wanted to give a shout-out to whoever your sound guy is... the background music during the drives was very will done! Thx Throttle House!
The older I get, the more I appreciate front-engine design and usability. My DD for the last three years has been a C7 Z06 Corvette. While it is extremely usable due to massive trunk space, it is still very inconvenient. Having to take certain routes or avoid locations that cause me to scrape my nose is exhausting. After DDing this car for years, I finally just added a Mazda CX-70 to my garage, and it's making me dislike my Z06 more and more every time I drive it. Performance-wise, absolutely no question. The Z06 is a freaking monster. I even went for the Turbo S model of the CX-70 to keep some of that sporty feel. But it doesn't compare to the raw, on-the-bull-for-8-seconds feeling of flooring the Z06. But that level of inconvenience surely cannot overcome the inconvenience of higher performance, mid-engine supercars. More and more, I'm learning that cars like Lambos, Ferraris, etc. are horrible daily drivers. I'd honestly rather have a ~$80K luxury-performance sedan or SUV over a LaFerrari. My dream garage ATM would have to be a C6 ZR1, an SLS AMG (love the AMG GT, but SLS is timeless), a Bentley Bentayga, and a Ford Raptor. Hypercars are cool to see and ridiculous to experience in a track setting. But real world? Not usable.
Really liked the camera angle you used in the lap time segment. Being able to see the track, you, and the way the car is moving around is perfect. Please make that the default view.

So a 911 apparently isn't a sports car, now. I'm all sorts of confused. My 911 is the best sports car I've driven.
@@thomprd nah, he didn't mean it that way. It was just another argument because for him the new version feels too heavy and the handling isn't as good, so it's less of a sports car than the old one.
@@thomprd you're missing the point. The body of 911 is more spacious than of Mercedes due to its ridiculously long bonnet. Therefore, there is not much space to fit the rear seat row. 1st gen was strictly a 2-seater because of that and the 2nd gen should've been a strict 2-seater as well.
@@Danteska90the handling is definitely better
I admire how you can shit on cars without shitting on them. The critic is well disguised yet plainly obvious if you want to look for it.
I was able to drive the old AMG GT-C in 2023 and the new AMG GT Coupé 63 two weeks ago, both during 3 day trips in the Alps. Wasn’t expecting the new one to feel that agile compared to the old one. Both are really fun cars, new one is way to expensive, but more usable as a daily with kids on the backseats.
I'd much rather the old GT. I've driven some of them and they are so good to drive. Not to mention they look so much cooler
Drove the AMG GTR through the mountain roads of Colorado and it was glorious. Blows away Ferraris, Lambos, Aston, all of them in handling with the rear wheel steering. It's truly just that or a 911 in terms of handling
The best car review channel by far 💙
Together with carwow
@@kamilsomczewski209I don't like carwow. The presenter is most times really "populist". He sometimes makes his presentations unnecessarily political. And not even good so.
He sometimes tries to be funny but is in my eyes cringe.
But I understand if you like him, mostly he's okay. I will stick to this channel

@@teleguy5699yes they are engineered to the max expect the suv models.
I remember when the 1st gen AMG GT came out I said that was the only Mercedes I'd craved, and it's cool that that still holds true today.
These are gorgeous. Either of these with a tune, exhaust, and turbos would be an absolute dream to own.
23:43 EQewww broooo give an edior bonus for that xD

@@honza2755 what's that, brother?
Perfect way to start a work day
Absolutely.
It would've been interesting to see it go against the old GTR instead of the GTS. Same horsepower, less weight, and even more of a stunner
That's not the predecessor of this new car tho. That's a way more expensive limited edition
But I guess not that much of a difference in price(?)
Makes no sense the GTR was a track oriented special version. This here exactly compares to the GTS
The GTR Pro was the track focused and limited edition. The regular GTR was just the most powerful in the general line-up, as is this with less powerful versions available. But sure, in terms of price, they're likely way closer to each other. It still would've been interesting to see how they compare sharing the power output, but with a very different philosophy.
@@dustinmerten9449The AMG GTR was most definitely track focused.
When Thomas was explaining how GT S drives, It felt like I am really driving it. Amazing narration Thomas!✌🏼
Honestly one of, if not THE best, car show on the internet. You always seem to top your previous video. Awesome job!!
The best AMG GT review. This new AMG GT is worse than before. For this price, I prefer the new Vantage and 911. Or I’d take an old first-gen AMG GT.
Or just get a M4 competition. Less than half the price, less 1000lbs, and horsepower is essentially the same so your acceleration and handling will be better.
the reason behind all of this is weight and bulkiness that this is basically a coupe version of the new sl
The old one really is just sooo much more special
Previous gen AMG GT is my fav car I'm so happy it finally made it in a TH vid!
2016 amg gts was one of my favorite cars I've had
Why u get rid of it?
No better feeling than farting away a stomachache
the new GT looks like a FType
Lol where?
🤔
@@DK70707honestly, I can kinda see it. Just the front end though. It’s like a mix of the first f type headlights and the facelifted grill
It does a bit
They both softened the lines and made them less aggressive looking in their most recent iterations, so I agree
Favorite types of videos from you guys!
As always this was a great video and overall car review, kept me glued to my screen the whole time. Can’t help but notice improvements in things like cinematography and the way some of the shots are filmed, feels like a high production tv show or movie at times.
I have had 3 cx5s for my wife. An 18 a 21 and a 24 All perfect. No issues ever. None ever driven past 80k, though. We recently added a cx30, and it had the same kind of rough drive in the first few gears as you describe in the 70. The shifting was kind of rough compared to the cx5. And that is weird because the 30 and the cx5 have the same eng and Trans. But after 1500k miles, the cx30 is shifting normal now.
I agree with everything, but actually the amg gt3 racecar doesn’t have the 4,0 v8 but the old 6,2 one
The new Vantage refresh seems like the better car for the money now.
Much less usable though.
The 1st Gen AMG GT has been a dream car for me ❤️
I don't need two more seats.. my kids are grown. That carbon fiber bar could have been use to complete the half carbon bumper. The end of this video was hilarious!!! SO True!
everytime I see a new iteration of an amg flagship sports car, i always think what a gem of a unit the SLS was.
SLS IS WAS AND FOREVER WILL BE GOATED
I thought i recognized the old one. THANKS NEAL!!
I'd take the 70-ish fewer hp, 550 lbs less mass, 70% cheaper GT. Every single time. It looks good, but the 63's curb weight is insane.
Let’s be honest, weight honestly doesn’t make much of a difference with that awd system
@@fifteen8850yes it does

The attention to detail, to record Thomas away from the mic so it fits david beckham standing by the door while saying "be honest". I love you guys❤
Old body is such a classic look... love it.
Wow the GT3 RS casually snacking a race car on slicks 😂
GT3 RS is a 300k race car with an interior and semislicks, honestly not really surprising

Epic opening!…..to a great comparison review! 👍👍
GTC and GTR have not depreciated. I bought my 2019 new at a big discount, and I can sell it now, 4-5 years later, for the same price!
Guys, the production is on another level: picture, sound, script. It’s a pleasure to watch and listen. Great work❤
This video helped me with a purchase decision of a 2018 GT-C. Couldn't be happier.
"the all new amg gt.....just buy a 911"😂
Honestly though. This car has an identity crisis, it's filling the gap of something like Continental GT; a fast luxury car, rather than pure bred racecar adapted for the road of OG GT.
Sweet mother of god, that rear at 20:25 😳
It looks like the Ferrari Roma to some extent. The taillights are different, obviously, but I see the resemblance otherwise.
You need a 997.2 4s that has an even better rear.
So beautiful ❤
"James, be honest-" LMAO
@7:44 I am having such trouble with the fact that the editor placed the "L" in "4.0L" one space too far over compared to the way its spelled for the 2016 and that theres no "-" for the "twin"turbo" on the 2016 compared to the coupe.
Congrats on about to hit 3 million subscribers. Well deserved fellas. 🎉
5:53 can easily mistake it for an Aston Martin
Another Banger From Throttle House!

And the old one looks so much better too
Strongly disagree.
Really enjoying these comparisons between new and old!
17:45 Judging from that list, you guys didn’t time the GT4RS??
Not usable.
Pointless comment from me, but the Bentley bentayga is the ugliest car I've ever seen, genuinely amazed anyone likes them
I haven't laughed that hard over a simple fart joke since I was in Middle School!
Really liked the camera angle you used in the lap time segment. Being able to see the track, you, and the way the car is moving around is perfect. Please make that the default view.
That shot at 7:20 is fucking epic, kudos to whoever shot that
The stare at 31:14 actually made me laugh out loud
The new one has nothing to do with being an AMG GT. I hate this strategy Mercedes is doing. It's actually the successor to the SL and the GT and therefor combining them.
Mercedes-Benz still makes the SL with a V8, so I don't understand how this replaces the SL and GT?
@@damilolaakanni
Allow me to clarify his comment
The new GT is basically a hard top version of the AMG SL
@@damilolaakanni Yeah I fucked up. It's on the same platform is what I meant. It kind of literally is one with a roof. But in short. The new one is not worthy of being the successor to the GT.

Tfw just one ECU tune on the old AMG GT and it would destroy the new one in a roll save 140k for the old one plus tune and bang

I will never understand the C43 version of this,that used to mean it's a 4.3V8 not a 4cylinder

10:56 - the gap between the rear of the front wheel arch and the leading edge of the door shouts "weight distribution!". Oh and fake vents tells you the car evolution is going the WRONG way (just ask the old C63s......)
