Great video! Nice Jeep! Mine is 2.5 years old and at 33k miles with some pretty heavy off-roading among those miles. It is holding up very well, too! The welds should be fine. I just hit mine with Rustoleum Rust Reformer/Sealer. I also hit my frame and vulnerable areas with Fluid Film every fall. I especially hit the inside of the frame.
Hey Principal Skinr, Thanks for the feedback. It’s good to know that even with heavy off roading that it’s still holding up very well too. I was intending to start doing some off roading this summer but COVID has held me back in that regard but I hope to still get out this summer. Cheers.
Great video. I was in the market for a new JLU Rubicon but I’m seeing corrosion around the hinges on one year old JL’s and that’s not acceptable. If you just refinish the area it will return in short order. In order to fix the issue you need to correct the cause and until that happens I’m keeping my Newfoundland money in my pocket or until I buy a new Bronco. Time will tell. Keep well.
Hey Paul & Kathy, I agree with you about the corrosion issue possibly being a recurring issue until the root cause is addressed. As for the Bronco option, Ford may be having a similar issue, as per class action lawsuit mentioned in my Corrosion video. I did a separate video on the corrosion issue if you wanted to check it out. Hey Kimberly, That's great. As long as you know what to be aware of when it comes to some issues. They really made significant improvements in the JL compared to the JK. In my opinion, I find that some electronic glitches, the windshield defrost issue, and the corrosion issue are items any potential new Jeep owner should be aware of before considering purchasing one. Cheers.
Great video, thanks for posting. I've heard a lot of people complain that these things have vague steering on the highway. In other words, they drift back-and-forth. Have you noticed that?
Hey Jeff, There are many posts on forums where new owners are experiencing this. A steering dampener recall was issued initially, then a TSB for the steering box had been issued(which made for significant improvement in steering as mentioned by many in the forums). In my opinion, I find the steering on mine vague as well.
In general it is advised for all automatic transmissions to do a double flush with specialized equipment every 80,000 km. this way the transmission of the last for 500,000 km or more. The service interval can be extended to 100,000 km for if you drive mostly highway, no off-road, and non-city majority driving.
Hey bm, Thank you for the info. Do you know of any online source of service information pertaining to the 8 sp. auto in the JL? I know FCA says its good for "life?", but I'd love to read more from a reputable source about the double flush you mentioned. Thanks
@@CheaperJeeperTV I don’t have materials in English language. However I have R and D experience from a major automotive corporation. Manufacturers claim that the oil in automatic transmissions is for life and thus is not in the maintenance plan - cost reasons. Yet they calculate the lifespan to 10 years and 250K km. If you do a change of oil then, the transmission is beyond saving. If you drive in the city and off road the oil change should be more frequent than with highway driving. The city is taxing - short trips, constant changes of speed, high revs on cold parts etc... Best regime is: first change after 120K km, then each 60K km. You can change transmission oil in two ways. Let the old one drip out, change the filter, fill in new and go. Gravitational dripping only removes oil in the transmission. But it will not remove old oil from the pipes, hydrodynamic parts and from the cooler. Changing oil professionally with a specialized tool will flush the system under pressure. Flushing uses about 3 times the oil needed for one change to clean everything properly. You can repeat it twice - thus the double flush - if you havent changed oil like this before. You will need 2 filters too. Costs less than a new transmission. With this maintenance and reasonable driving, you can drive 400k-500k km without fear.

I mean no disrespect, but I have the same Jeep with much less mileage and I am getting rid of it for two reasons that you highlight in your analysis but oddly downplay. 1) I had terrible death wobble for the first 14 months of ownership. Until you experience death wobble with 3 other people in the car under your responsibility (my children) you cannot relate to how bad and dangerous it is. Jeep denied this - while denying it my dealer told me he had 35 Jeeps on a list for the same problem. Then, a recall came out. Just because you did not experience DW, doesn't mean it should not bother you. Death wobble, addressed with he recall for steering dampers, is a real thing that ruined many Jeeper's experience. 2) Galvanic corrosion - you show it on your Jeep. This is an outrage, a new Jeep corroding due to two dissimilar metals in contact causing a reaction. When Jeep "fixes" it, it only addresses the hinges / doors that are showing corrosion. They are not removing all hinges on doors, hood, and tailgate. Worse, it is still happening in 21's and new Gladiators. The are simply addressing symptoms but not addressing the problem. How can you recommend a vehicle with a steering problem that poses significant safety issues, electrical problems and corroding paint? You seem like a VERY nice man but with all due respect, this is not a meaningful analysis. Unfortunately, it looks like a Jeep Fanboy dowplaying significant flaws or chalking it up to a "Jeep thing".
