I know this is old, but it's the best incentive on UA-cam I've seen so far. I'm looking at an e5000 ultra or e6400 ultra, whichever one my buddy can get up and running first I guess. Thanks +justletmesigninokthx
@@justletmesigninokthx I just got a 6400 ultra, i come from a basic akai s3200 and do minimal techno, would pay for a introductory lessons, would you, thanks!
audio inputs, or load the samples from floppy disk, hard-drive or transfer over midi cable or SCSI. I have heard some artists liked to overdrive the inputs when sampling for a loud, crunchy distorted sound - not sure if thats true, but its food for thought/experiments. Dunno about fun to use thought tbh. they do sound very very nice though - thats the only reason iv got one :) Thanks for commenting.
Seems like a really deep synth. Heard some samples on another video, seems to have a great filter & handles analog-like patches pretty well. Might have to grab one along with another Kurzweil K2000/K2000 rack :-) Wish I could just hit this damn lotto, i'd just go all out & buy everything lol
one question, when you audition the samples do you hold down the key for the duration while you edit or is there a "hold mode" hidden somewhere. (It would be convenient if I could trigger the loop on with one button press and then off again on the next)
Wicked fella! Very informative, learnt a lot from this. It's a shame you can't automate atk2 ect. So, do you know how to work the Morph filters? I'm thinking maybe you need a sustained note to get the full effect? Also I read(somewhere) that you automate the FilRes rather than the FilFreq.. Listen, I don't suppose you sold an e5000 ultra recently? Thanks for the sample and for taking the time to educate us.
No need to sound so nervous haha really good little vid for anyone who's planning on using one of these :) I've got an ultra 5000 on the way so you've helped me alot here. Anyone got an akai s series?! My S2000 is a treat for running sounds through so you might want to look into one of those too :)
Great video..got question for u i cant get my emu to boot up keep getting checksum failed and havent got floppy to boot from any ideas of what to do next please.. ta
On Ultra samplers, if you have the RFX32 card and the Emu 6868 analog inputs card, yes you can process external audio, thru the sampler, thru the RFX32 system, and also thru the Emu filters.
hey mate! do you know how this guys have synced the emu with the pc? and how they make this sick sequences?? pleasee do a video it if you know it. Thanks for your time mate
Small world indeed! Shame you lost money, fella, but nice one for gaining a E6400. If it wasn't for these tut's I'd be scratching my arse with it lol. So did you learn by messing with it or did you have help? Big old thing to post lol but it was well packaged. I was over the moon when I opened it but gutted the HD was empty lol hopping to find Ed Rushes stash of samples lol.
thx. It's a long time ago so I'm not sure how I looped that sample, but probably looped it manually in the emu. A super easy way to loop samples that gives results like in this video is to use renoise or redux & use the autoloop button. These days I would prep the samples in renoise (& autoloop them if needed) & sample them into the hardware because fucking around with loop points in the old samplers is generally too tedious. That said, you can loop stuff in many of the sequencers / plugs nowdays.
Jack Baker I buy some (very few packs, say 5 or 6) & download from DOA or some forums. Over time it gets distilled down into the stuff that's most useful. sample anything re songs yeh !
Cheers, maybe you can automate atk2? havent tried. The morph filters I don't really know anything about...........just that (from trying it out) it seems you can add shedloads of bass to things with it (also got a break sounding huge with it while i was messing around). I'll have a look at the FilRes thing later. Yeh I did flog an E5kU on ebay a few months back - made a loss on it, but got a mint E6400U from somebody at really good price so its fine.....
this is overdriving the gains on a mackie/or w/e desk & resampling the distortion (from overdriving the gains) back into the emu. after that they are LFO>cutoff with various filters & probably distorting the gains on the desk once more & resampling again. thats what I would do anyways.
mmm, not that I can remember - I think a good way of doing it is to make a bass sequence & then fine tune the envelope settings in time with the track. I dont have an EMU anymore sorrry :/
I have the RFX32. But it comes in 3 parts, the actual RFX32 card, the extra outputs, and the inputs. I don't have the inputs, as I bought it on Ebay, so I can't process external sounds. At least that's what I thought. Is there a way do do this with just the RFX32 and the addition outputs card?
whats the difference in sound on the e64 and e6400? i just bought a e64 and read it sounds more harder than a 6400.the 6400 is more warm? not shure if this is true.
I think the e6400 had a dirtier/ low fi edge to the sound. I think the ultra series had a brighter top-end / cleaner sound - but I could be wrong - its just something I heard or read somewhere......I guess the e64 would sound similar to an e6400.
Thats the one !! haha. I did say in the listing '+lib' or something lol. small world :) its the E5K in alot of my early vids :) Its such a worry packing up those EMUs for posting though....jeeez...
Yeh, just learned an older EMU ESI 32, the ultras are actually easier to use..... not doing that much these days... You can soon fill that hard-drive up with bass noises !!! You can't audition the samples from hard-drive I dont think..... so it might have been a bit useless without a mirrored folder on the PC. I mainly just save project folders for individual tunes & sample in from FL or Ableton where its easy to get a tempo matched audition :)
was going to make a post asking if you knew how to get that ram trilogy bass sound, but looks like i got my answer, thats the sound of 'no reality' innit?
can you say assign the emu's filter cutoff to a midi controller and automate live, or would you need an rfx card for that? otherwise how would you get changing filter movement (aside from lfo), would you just keep on recording different passes with different settings into the daw?
Yeh just assign cutoff > midi controller, and also lfo rate > another midi controller. You can draw those into a DAW or use a keyboard or w/e and record the changes. Any decent phrases / passes could be resampled aswell.. I never had the RFX so I don't know about it.... I read it was quite good.
hey. what guys? you can sync an emu with anything just find the formula for frequency/tempo - thats how the old farts like me used to do it :) sometimes its better to get off the grid sometimes anyway if you want to add more character to your stuff.
Hi, I put up some beats & sketches over here, I use hardware sometimes (only got an AKAI S3000XL now); mostly im learning stuff in Renoise & recording it.. ua-cam.com/channels/vlM4qX0LsPZdVdhWZZFB5w.html
glad it helped. been meaning to get this done for ages :)
Nice one, thanks for sharing !
You're welcome. Cheers !
Thanks man, that's awesome

Will Organ thx ! Good luck w it !

damn, holy grail!
Nice one for that. I loaded up shedloads of samples onto my EMU hard disk & just used a mirrored folder on the PC lol. This will be handy :)

thanks for the info. I didn't know this.
You can audition samples direct from the HD and if you turn on soundsprint mode you can audition presets but they take a few secs to load each one.
Seems like a really deep synth. Heard some samples on another video, seems to have a great filter & handles analog-like patches pretty well. Might have to grab one along with another Kurzweil K2000/K2000 rack :-) Wish I could just hit this damn lotto, i'd just go all out & buy everything lol
it's not a synth it's a sampler
Stimpy Don I know that, but thank you for the reminder

@justletmesigninokthx Cool. What CAN you do, routing live audio?
Wicked fella! Very informative, learnt a lot from this. It's a shame you can't automate atk2 ect.

Walmart still doesn't carry 6868 or RFX32 . Still have a fresh 6400 Ultra on deck. Will report back in 7 more years.
hey mate! do you know how this guys have synced the emu with the pc? and how they make this sick sequences?? pleasee do a video it if you know it. Thanks for your time mate
Great tute.
I am taking it that you can't use the filters on something passed through the audio inputs? You need to sample the wave first huh?
Small world indeed! Shame you lost money, fella, but nice one for gaining a E6400. If it wasn't for these tut's I'd be scratching my arse with it lol. So did you learn by messing with it or did you have help?
Big old thing to post lol but it was well packaged. I was over the moon when I opened it but gutted the HD was empty lol hopping to find Ed Rushes stash of samples lol.
Really helpful video, Cheers. How did you get the 808 loop? did you use a drum machine in logic etc or an analogue 808 or find the sample online?
thx. It's a long time ago so I'm not sure how I looped that sample, but probably looped it manually in the emu. Thanks. Not that I know of....there are no options for filtering on the new sample page - so yeh just sample it.

migraine516 yes u can via sampling input as explained in the card manual
You need the RFX-32 expansion to process external sounds live.
Did you throw in a few sample cd's that wasn't included in the listing? I'm thinking I might have brought your bird! lol
whats the difference in sound on the e64 and e6400? i just bought a e64 and read it sounds more harder than a 6400.the 6400 is more warm? not shure if this is true.

How do i get to the filters again. I used this machine about a year ago and now i can't remember how to use it...haha
Nothing as far as I know (I could be wrong). These machines were of an earlier time !! What are you thinking of specifically?
the video is: Fracture & Neptune Part Two
Thats the one !! haha. I did say in the listing '+lib' or something lol. small world :) its the E5K in alot of my early vids :)

Yeh it sounds like they used a similar technique with lots of automation on the envelopes / lfos.
can you say assign the emu's filter cutoff to a midi controller and automate live, or would you need an rfx card for that? otherwise how would you get changing filter movement (aside from lfo), would you just keep on recording different passes with different settings into the daw?

I never had the RFX so I don't know about it.... I read it was quite good.
great news man thank you
loveisthemessage assigning the controllers is all done on the 'cords' page. GL.
No sorry, you would need the rfx inputs upgrade.

yeh man you've got the ear, great stuff
Thanks, yeh I was doing this shit from about 1992 onwards !
never got it nailed, but still trying when I'm in the mood !
thought so man, doesn't sound like an outsider looking in, respect
Is that a bandpass filter?
yes
