you have a VERY different definition of 'lo fi' than i do apparently! the E4 series is one of the clearest, most coherent and NON 'lo fi' samplers I've ever heard
Probably the wild surmise of someone who thinks current price and audio quality are directly related, as opposed to the opinion of someone who shelled out £600+ for theirs in the early '90s.
The filters and effects on the E4K series can turn the cleanest of samples into an array of noise however. That's why these boxes are popular among sound designers.
This Demo was awesome. I own an E-mu E5000 and I haven't gotten a chance to mess with Beat munging so thank you for that. On a side note these samplers are amongst the most cleanest sounding hardware samplers there are. I have gotten them to sound Lo-Fi by sampling my Mirage or my S550. I can get them sounding really gritty and dirty with ease.
@@saren6538 So after doing a bit of research, E4s and E6400 and E5000 are all based on the same engine. With an E64 Ultra you're getting an E4 plus faster processing. It could be that the E4's had diffeent AD/DA converters so sounds would be slightly more "lo fi" than with the e64. So this depends alot on what you're going to do with it. Myself, I'm super interested in the ESI after having forgotten entirely about this line of samplers.
This was a surprise feature for me. I have the contemporary Kurzweil and Yamaha A4k samplers, and neither has anything like this. You're capable of creating an entire track of drum loops with this. Some impressive variations.
I use Beat Munging with almost all my stereo loops it's an amazing tool. You can match any rhythm from the straightest beat to the heaviest swing pocket. It's one of my secret weapons and it's only on E-mu Ultra samplers.

Had the chance to make a side by side comparison between a E4X Turbo and my E6400 Ultra and differences are minimal. If there are any at 0 pitch. With heavy down tuning it starts to show a bit but not a night and day kind of thing like with a ESP16. Both sound great anyway but switched to the ultra OS4.7 with no regrets for processing time and realtime filters control.
Thats really a powerfull feature for a vintage sampler of the 90's it's like they use it as a blue print for the REX2 format on Reason Studio , i remember playing with time stretching on cubase VST on the mid 90's but it was not powerful as that or Recycle and Rex looper, such a shame that E-MU was shutdown they where realy advance .
Man, i would love to hear emu's pitch down drums or whatever pitch down stuff, i was initially thinking about getting one for experimenting with jungle rhythmns. thinking about time stretch, rather than that i imagine it gives you this weird sequencing flexibilities for that propose, which seem pretty cool just hearing what you are getting out of it, pretty interesting stuff, also nice sounding
I don't always sample. But when I do, it's always in the dark by the light of a luminous screen.

The ultras are nice, but the classic has a darker sound that I prefer, to be honest.

i have this sampler for few years, but never use this feature. It's awesome & creative!! (ofcourse for hardware freaks ;-) )
