Chorus:
They say that the road ain't no place to start a family
Right down the line it's been you and me
And lovin' a music man ain't always what it's supposed to be
Oh, girl, you stand by me
I'm forever yours, faithfully

Here we are in 2023...this song will NEVER go out of style. One of the greatest rock ballads of all TIME.
Thank you Journey for the music 🎶 🎵 👏🙌
Journey is great, they'll never die themselves
Awesome song 🎵 ♥️ 👌 ❤️ 👏 🙌 🎵 ♥️
Thank you 😊 💓
Thank you. ❤️
Such a beautiful, sweet ballad by an iconic band of the 80's. Grateful for the few years spent in Berkeley, near my Aunts. Eating organically and making macrame jewelry and absorbing the great vibes created by bands such as Journey🎶
Oh my goodness how this takes me back to to some of the best times of my life. It seems like it was yesterday, but then again, it seems like it was forever.
This guy has never once recorded a bad song.
Steve is Journey, an Asian quartet couldn't sound better singing his own songs.
Never. 💯

One of the best voices in popular music. And the whole band, their harmonies are exquisite.

This is my favorite song also and their other song wheels in the sky. Oh yeaaaa 😁😁♥️ I could never get tired of listening to journey sing. 😍

Watch when Steve hits those high notes. He is doing it so naturally- no tense body. Just so smooth. Damn Brother.
Frrrr ❤😂😂😂
Steve Perry is the Best,! He will always be for Me The Voice of Journey! Amazing Voice, Fan of Journey with Steve Perry always be a Favorite.................................
+Pamela KW Perry is nothing without Rollie. Perry turned Journey into a bad ballad band with crap like Faithfully, removing it's rock/blues roots but for Schoen's contribution. And Schoen outlasted Perry's huge ego.
+Darwinian Blunder ridiculous statement... Perry helped make this band great.. those ballads you are complaining about are what a majority of the public liked and followed them for...
Blunder, Perry was the reason Journey went to the top. The way I see it, Schon is the one who have super ego who always gave Perry very hard times, he was so jealous that Perry overshadowed him. Perry was really humble and did not even said anything bad about Journey bandmates who said so much bad about Steve and making fans believed that Steve is dead!
Lourdes, sorry but no one overshadowed Neil. I think at 16 he was playing with Santana. If you are good enough to play next to Carlos you are going to be OK.
@@darwinianblunder5307 you are trippin
Steve Perrys voice is one of a kind. Their will never be another one like him.
Being in Chicago, living along Lake Michigan, I like transplanting the song to when the lights go on in the city while watching the moon shine on the lake, in my city.
One of the GREATEST SONGS EVER WRITTEN, and sung by ONE of THE GREATEST SINGERS in THE WORLD! STEVE PERRY, and JOURNEY! NUFF SAID!🎶🎵🎼🎸🙏
That voice in absolutely incredible.
I have already added comment,but I will

Oh yes. Golden voice of the 80's
This song reminds me about home, family, good old friends and memories of childhood. I love this song.
The harmonies on this song are so pure and Neal Schon’s guitar is such a perfect compliment to Steve Perry’s vocals… not just the solo but the counter melody he plays… this song just gets better and better
Totally underrated, That fella can play.
I have just discovered Journey, and am really enjoying them.
Gregg and Steve's voices were so good together. its sad that Steve's goal was to be a solo act.
I lived in San Francisco during the late 70s and early 80s (was going to San Francisco State). Most amazing time of my life. After I graduated I moved away and whenever I heard this song and was drunk enough I'd bawl my eyes out missing the place so much.
Know what you mean, went there 1st time a few years ago, came back to L.A. and felt homesick for the next month. Found myself staring at the smoggy L.A. skyline wishing I was in San Francisco. Great city (except for those darn Giants). Go Dodgers!
To quote that great San Franciscan Dirty Harry - "Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one."
So Matthew, is it safe to say that you have never been to San Francisco? Because Journey and San Francisco go hand in hand. I really don't think that people cry too easily, I just think that they all know a good thing when they see it or hear it! You should watch some clips on UA-cam of Steve Perry singing along to his songs at the Giants games. Make sure to watch the crowd... because they all sing along and look like the happiest people, ever. Find some time to take a trip out there, it might just change your life.
Jeff Morse that's sad
I was from the city by the bay-eeeyaaay, ohhh ... ohhh ... oh-oh-woh. I understand exactly. Without having to be drunk, there is a longing to go back.
Fantastic power ballad from 1978 !!!!! Steve Perry's vocals are pure perfection !!!
In 78'...at 8 years old, this song stopped me in my tracks and pulled me in like a trance. I never stopped listening since. This band is legendary.
I was born in 98 so my parents are your age. The song still did that to me at that age in 2006 haha
I’m thankful for my cousin who introduced me to Journey when I preteen in 2010. Ever since, Lights and Faithfully have been my ultimate favorites from them.
Stone in love also❤
Steve Perry's voice = perfection!
oh Steve those pants! LOL! He was so blessed with such an incredible voice! And that open shirt "look"! I hope this style NEVER comes back, but this music is forever lasting!
Good grief Steve's lyrics are SO CRISP! SENSATIONAL!
April 27, 2024 here! Go Steve, we're aging gracefully with you
I wish we could go back to those years when rock n roll was good. Why do we have to get old?
We may be old but rock n roll will never die.

This is just one of the prettiest, most atmospheric rock songs ever, and that's Journey's special talent, I think. I've always loved this song, ever since I first heard it floating through the window from someone's transistor radio as a little kid.
This has got to be the song we'll all hear upon arrival in Heaven!🙏

Oh man that voice. That voice, tone, range and power. Unreal
This son played on my car radio as I was running errands this evening, reminding me of why it's one of my favorite songs ever. Steve's voice is absolute perfection, and the song has such a longing, yet laid-back, vibe that you can practically see the lights of the city.
La canción cuenta sobre la partida del vocalista a LA y extraña mucho a su ciudad, San Francisco

Until the day I die, Steve Perry's journey will always be # 1. Saw them in concert at age 10, I'm 48 now and I'm still so in love with his amazing voice.
"I saw them on their "Raised On Radio" tour! (My sister Tamara passed away from Cancer at 63,Her all time favorite band!)
First concert I took my girlfriend to in high school was Journey.
😘
It was 1982 when I saw them at Autzen Stadium in Eugene OR with Sammy Hagar and Brian Adams, 55 now and to this day still haven't heard a band that's comparable 😍
It's the only concert I went to that I actually remember. It was 1986 and it was a concert-in-the-round. A few of us were behind the stage passing a joint and Steve Perry turned around and saw us and waved! BUSTED!
Back when the music was pure, and the world didn't seem as stupid as it is today.
Omg, so right!
One of those perfect albums where every song is a masterpiece! No fillers...just magic.
Hello Joanne,

Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you!
It's nice meeting you here.
True that
Journey was a rock legend. This is the album that had us all listening. No other band will ever sound like them. Steve Perry was the voice of rock for a long time. I miss hearing him and the rest of the band. This was the sound of 1978
You would be shocked to see how many 80s Kids think this is a 80s SONG LOL . FROM 1978
God I wish I could go back in time and see journey when Steve perry sang for them
Me too!!
Me too!! I was into Country back then - can't stand it now.
I got to see them twice, in 1980 and 1985. I wish I could go back and see them again! Can"t get enough of Steve's voice, it's even better when you can watch him and see the emotion. And the musical arrangements are amazing, I love each part of it!!
I was into different genres of music in 1980. I wish that I could get a do-over and add this genre.
I was fortunate enough to see them in '82, 83, 86, and 2006.
Before Covid- my daughter and myself had the privilege of greeting Steve perry at a breakfast location which he eats always on Sunday. Steve asked -my daughter (age 16 at the time) what is your favorite song- she said" When you love a woman" -Steve took the time to tell us how he wrote part of the song and sang a couple words from the song to us-what a nice gift that was.
What a great experience
Amazing
I'm jealous. Lol
Thanks for sharing your experience with Steve.🐾🐾

This is without question their best song and they've had a whole lot of good ones........
Truly a masterpiece of a song. Can't get any better.
Its so sad that this generation doesnt know this mans voice ....and the great work the whole band did......there will never be another voice like his again
My Dad grew up next door to some of the band members and used to drive them to band practice in the 70’s. So I grew up listening to Journey. My grandma still lives next door to some of the guys parents. Anyways my Dad passed away four years ago. My three year old son never met him, however he eat, sleeps and breathes Journey. Funny thing is that I don’t listen to Journey, because it would just make me miss my Dad and make me cry. So he picked that up on his own. He dances around the living room putting on his own little Journey concerts. So there’s hope :) for the younger ones.
Don’t worry I’ll spread the music and make sure the younger generation is blessed by this beautiful music!! I’m 30 and keeping Journey alive!!
My kids are in there early twenties and know all the words.
I'm 15 and sharing journey with some of my friends!! They will live on forever don't worry❤

I love it. This song will always be special to me because it was the first one featuring Steve as Journey's lead singer. Amazing performance by him and the whole band, and I love how all their voices harmonize so beautifully together in the song. They're so incredibly talented.. Steve Perry is The Voice and he's the master of his craft. Thank you Journey and Steve for all the incredible music you have created together that has been the soundtrack of so many people's lives. ♥
I'm 61 and this is still my favorite song.
Anyone from a city, no matter which one, can relate to this song, amiright? I'm from Pittsburgh, not SF, but when I hear this song, I think of the sun shining on the river and the bridges and buildings, etc.
Indeed I'm from Philly and look at the Delaware River in same way-never been farther west than Fla- but thru videos-movies-tv can imagine SF bay in my mind when I hear this-- BEAUTIFUL
"In my city ..."
Vegas and Phoenix. Love San Francisco, grateful for visiting once
I love SF I live an hour away and go there twice every couple months. It’s like a second home city to me
Agreed! I think of Santa Cruz, CA the beach town closest to me and I lived there in 1978 when this song came out. And yes, SF is the root of the song, for sure.
i just wanna thank my uncle for raising me to journey when i was around him from 2000-now. i love you uncle marty.

Everyone knows Steve Perry had one of the greatest singing voices in rock history. But Neal Schon's guitar playing is criminally underrated.
Replacing Steve Perry (because he feared hip surgery to get back on tour) is also underrated for criminality. He killed Journey.
@@gemrouf And THAT is why Neal Schon will always remain the underrated ass that he is.
As a band, they are entirely underrated. I only really heard of them because of my Dad.
Neal is a beast. He can play blues, jazz rock and roll you name it. Steve and Neal together was a great pairing of voice and guitar
Totally agree!
the 70s and 80s were the best generation for all of the great singers that came from that era in time .alot has changed since then some good some not so good but if not for the 70s and 80s we wouldnt have grown.
Remember... 🎶🎵

@@archstanton9073 could be, but Perry has better voice control than Mercury had

Underrated classic.
What a blessing to have grown up with Steve’s beautiful voice on my radio!
His voice will never be matched never
I ave always loved Journey, especially Steve Perry, no one can sing those songs like him. That incredible one of a kind voice.
Not even Freddie Mercury?
wormyish Two different animals...but equally powerful...
Amen sister!!!!!!!!!!!!
wormyish Freddie Mercury was more of a frontman than a singer. Yes, Freddie can sing, but somehow I don't imagine Freddie singing a song as challenging as Mother, Father. I can imagine Steve Perry singing the Queen songs well. Freddie's gift was how he was able to motivate the audience. And Freddie did all the wrong things when it came to voice care: he smoked which messes up your lungs and he drank alcohol which reduces the fluid in the circulatory system which supplies the vocal folds.
B Martin No way....Steve's voice is too squeaky for Queen. He doesn't even sing in the same range as Freddy. If you believe that Freddy couldn't sing "better" then you are very mistaken. Freddy way a whole lot better than you give him credit for, and Steve could never write music as "complicated" as Queen's.
Journey is one of the greatest bands!! This song reminds me of my childhood and AM radios, playing outside ❤️
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hands down the best ever Journey song.
Everytime i hear this song i always think aboit a friend who passed and she sang this when we were just finishing school and starting life miss you calli ❤

Steve Perry had a gift ( singing ) sadly it's gone, but the memories are priceless.
You can't compare singers. You can only have your favorite. Just like flowers.
The Voice. Nothing more needs to be said.
Fact!
This song takes me right back to freshman year in college...so nostalgic. I remember the first time I heard Lights and was blown away. I hadn't listened to the album Infinity in many years. Played it thru the other day and remembered every word. I think of my friends from that time...some gone, most no longer in touch ...all in our 60's now, but I can picture it like it was yesterday. Time DOES fly by....this song is still as perfect now as it was then.
Steve Perry is amazing ... He was Journey's "heart".. Such a great Band together !
Haha, this song gives me memories of being a three-year-old and whenever I would hear Journey or Steve Perry, I would crawl/walk/waddle over to the radio. The funny thing is, my mom loved Steve Perry and I was born on his birthday.

Take me back to the late 70 and80s. Journey all the time!!!
one of the best songs with one of the best guitar solos ever
Actually I'd love to hear Warren Haynes do the leads in this tune lol
Warren would undoubtedly sing it well, just not s well as Steve Perry, that's all...
"one of the best guitar solos ever"
Some of the best rhythm playing, too. Just great guitar playing all around. Neal Schon is the man.
this solo is a pentatonic masterclass
Neal is one of the TASTIEST and most melodic guitar players of all time !! My Homie from the Bay Area lol :)
what an amazing song this song is..it has heart..and meaning...and it stands for the good times, when life was real and songs were something to remember not just something sang....love the good old days...when the music was a way of life...
Yes those times are gone forever the music was at it's best , it had deep feeling to each song and an amazing time I feel they held time in their hands during those years but yet they left us some awesome music there has been.
Me and my buddy used to drive our Glastrons GT 150’s down the river with this song blasting.
Steve Perry has got to have one of the best voices in history right I mean it’s definitely legendary status. Tell me how many people actually can sing like that live! It’s just incredible to have that kind of vocal range. Journey is something else man I swear. I love all their music. My dad and I heard this today and we just enjoyed it.
This is one of very few songs that never ceases to get me lost in its sound. So crisp so full so vast. Rock on Journey, thanks for always taking me on one.
MTV: This is when you were huge, played the best of music videos, man what a time this was, I was in Junior high school, 1981, this album was charting, Van Halen, Scorpions, the whole new wave thing (which I loved the british sound) was flowing in the states, Rap was in its prime and still innocent and breakdancing was on every block. For those who were born later, let me just say, you would've loved it. Where did all the good stuff go? Lots of experimental music came out then along with scr-scr-scr-scratchin!. We used cassette tapes for Sony Walkman's, Quarter Arcades for video games, Vinyl records we bought at the music stores, and waited for our song to come on MTV with Martha Quin (what a cute little face she had) :) Next to the late 60's the 80's was the most experimental.
I saw Martha Quin on tv last year. Still a cutie! I'm with you on the rest. Class of '81!
they do play some good stuff on VH1 classic.. late, or should i say early morning they have metal mania blocks.. good stuff for insomniacs,
Max, amazing music and exploration through sound is still out there, it's just a bit harder to find now. MTV is a dead horse.
I find it everywhere, my comment was for MTV that when they played this stuff, then it was music television, not this cribs and pimp crap they show.
Still can't beat the 70"s what a great time in music and life !
Awesome Then Now and Forever🌹
