First line, "Welcome to Your Life, There's No Turning Back" is so true. Ya gotta go through it to get out. This song is beautiful both musically and lyrically.
Let me sum up the 80’s music this way, I’m a black guy who grew up in that era and I can’t cap, there was some great 80s rock and soft pop songs that I used to rock all the time. Tears for Fears was one of my favorite as well as Journey. I can remember cruising down Crenshaw Blvd in my 240z blasting their songs on the radio. That’s how much I loved 80’s music. Howard Jones, Madonna, Expose, etc…I could go on and on. But i can’t help waxing nostalgic when listening to these classics. I mean just the best cruising music ever. That’s what made driving so fun back then. It didn’t matter where you were going. Just pop in your favorite cassette and enjoy the ride. I’m glad I got to experience it firsthand.
I can't relate to the California part of your life, because I've never been there, but as a black man born in 1980 I grew up with this. I was exposed to this sound thanks to my mother's tastes in music, so this feel good music was felt in North Carolina. This group, and many others from the 60s, 70s, 80s and early 90s get plenty of rotation in the car to this day.
I’m a 49 year old brother in Houston who did the same exact thing. MTV had straight hood dudes knowing every lyric to rock n pop songs lololl and what I didn’t find on MTV I’d discover at AstroWorld… Golden times man
"nothing ever lasts forever" that line alone gives me so much peace. On my hardest days of life I listen to this song and love it desperately and I was born in 2000
I was 17 when this song came out, and wished I would have lived in 50s. You will not know how much people wanted to live in your time, until you get my age . And you can tell them how great it was 😊
The guitar riffs at the end are out of this world. Amazing how much life and character it introduces to the song as it ends. The eighties was such a gifted era...
I'm driving a rundown late 70's tan colored Dodge Dart back to college after working the weekend as a bartender. It's late March 1985 and unseasonably warm in New England. The sun is setting, I'm traveling West and the windows are wide open and this song comes on. It is instantly tattooed on my brain. I buy the cassette (yes pre-CD, DVD, Spotify) during next week and literally wear it out over the next several years, repeatedly driving to and from school, playing this song and the whole cassette over and over. I purchase another copy of the cassette. Music is time travel and my time was the 80's...every time I hear this song, it brings me back to that exact moment....sublime.

Without a doubt! I'm 51 and this song was huge when I was a teenager. I don't give a damn whose around when I hear this song, gonna blast the volume. The emotions that I feel when I hear this song are all so powerful.
I feel the same - but still can’t put my finger on why exactly that is the case. As someone being born in 89 I still think it was a truely unique episode of time with such a huge impact on so many people.
Right, that's why I have alot of songs from b4 I was born in my main playlist, mostly from the 1980s, I'm tired of all these phone music and random ugly sounding rapping, I love electro music and electro swing but the ones they made this year sounds so bad, also, I'm glad there are some artists I can count on to make good music, like Laufey and Mitski AND BEABADOOBEE
+Earth Linger I respect your opinion. Nevertheless, I don't give a shit what their (or anybody else's) lyrics are about; I just love great melodies: that's what music is all about.
Ever feeling hopeless?.. I do sometimes. This song just reminds me of staying present, enjoying my day to day life, monotony, work, bills, all other gnarly stuff that I sometimes gotta force myself to do. But just look at these young lads singing their hearts out back in the 80’s, time is precious and ruthless, they are both over 60 now. Don’t forget to nourish yourself, don’t forget to take care of your loved ones, show up for yourself and everyone around you daily. If you are not happy with current situation and want to push blame to someone, I encourage you to take action and do it yourself what you expect from others - because at the end of the day it feels good. Stay blessed people and value time in present. Afternoon of 29/02/2024.

From where I am from in the 80s people had to listen to propaganda in the morning day and Night. Probably one of the best singers of that time was Anne Veski.
Agreed!! Makes you think about when things where so much more simple and the world was a better place. Also I think about dennis miller live lol! Since he used this song for is shows intro.
The only song I’ve ever listened to that makes me feel something different every time I listen to it. Sometimes I want to break out dancing, sometimes I laugh, sometimes I cry.... in my opinion this is the greatest song ever written.
Same.... I remember my mother playing this in her Nissan Sentra after she graduated college. It was the 90's but still gave me this nostalgic feeling as a child that always brings me to a feeling of teas from this song. I guess their name is fitting 🙌

Brings back a lot of memories, some sad, mostly good. I was 23. Wondering if I’d ever find love. Then 4 years later, on October 18th, someone tapped me on the shoulder while I was at Tiffany’s. I turned around and looked into the eyes of my future. He introduced himself, we talked a bit, he asked if he could buy me a drink. We sat across from each other for hours getting to know each other. 30 years later, were still together. We got married, bought a house, and he’s given me 4 dogs and 5 station wagons. A few years ago, he walked into a hospital room, his eyes were so sad. He had to tell me I had cancer. It broke his heart. He’s been by my side as I still try to recover. I never thought I could love anyone as much as him. The music back then was the best, it still brings a smile to my face.
My recovery hasn’t been as we hoped it would be, but as long as we have each other, I’m happy. I don’t know what I’d do without him. I always gave my mom credit for us being together. The first time Matt called to ask me out, I was at my folks house. It was family dinner night. I turned him down, asked for a rain check. My mom told me to call him back right away, you never turn down dinner, especially if he said I could pick wherever I wanted to go. So, if it hadn’t been for my mom, we might not be together.

I feel the same - but still can’t put my finger on why exactly that is the case. As someone being born in 89 I still think it was a truely unique episode of time with such a huge impact on so many people.
They just don't make masterpieces like this anymore.
Right, that's why I have alot of songs from b4 I was born in my main playlist, mostly from the 1980s, I'm tired of all these phone music and random ugly sounding rapping, I love electro music and electro swing but the ones they made this year sounds so bad, also, I'm glad there are some artists I can count on to make good music, like Laufey and Mitski AND BEABADOOBEE

yea .its so cool how they made it
Do ylu have Ellie on avatar?
+Earth Linger why haven't they sang about squirtle then?
+Earth Linger I respect your opinion. Nevertheless, I don't give a shit what their (or anybody else's) lyrics are about; I just love great melodies: that's what music is all about.
cesaresusa No, I fully agree, nothing beats a good sounding song. But when it comes to meaningful lyricism, these guys are on top.
Thank you Tears For Fears for offering us good songs that transcend all generations.

Facts
I know the feeling. I do have memories in this particular case though.
Same here.

Same man!
Wow! What a great 80’s love story! I’ll be praying you get well so you can have many more happy years together!!☺️
Pray for you're recovery. P.s how are you doing?
My recovery hasn’t been as we hoped it would be, but as long as we have each other, I’m happy. I don’t know what I’d do without him. I always gave my mom credit for us being together. The first time Matt called to ask me out, I was at my folks house. It was family dinner night. I turned him down, asked for a rain check. My mom told me to call him back right away, you never turn down dinner, especially if he said I could pick wherever I wanted to go. So, if it hadn’t been for my mom, we might not be together.
