Agreed. Same thing with movies, with different date ranges. Certainly, the world of "franchised" movies is really lacking. Never be hesitant to be out of step with the masses, since the masses are not very happy and perhaps do not put their values in the best places.
AS YOU MAY KNOW, that album shattered records, of even the Beatles for sales of any album released. it blew the world away, and it took a while for them to get a record contract , failed at first. when have you ever heard of THIS? MANY TIMES!!
I was a kid in the 70s and a teenager in the 80s, man I'm telling you it was the best time to be that age. High school , girls, cars and rock concerts.and real friends.....we had it all. Even back then we felt the same about these songs as we all do now. Listening now, these songs bring back memories forgotten both good and bad, friends that are no longer here...but I wouldn't change it for the world. These songs shaped who we are today, and those of you in your 50s, you know exactly what I mean. If we could go back I know you would drop what your doing and get on that bus. Appreciate your memories and never stop listening to this stuff... its the soundtrack to our lives. Cheers everyone.
I am 63 and would go back in a second! I was 18 years old when the Boston Album came out, and to this day there is nothing like it. Such a great time to be alive! 😊

I'm 70 now, and when this song comes on while driving, I sing it out loud & proud and I don't care who is watching or whether they laugh or not. Grey hair or not, you're never too old to rock and roll. ✌🤘👌👍😎
I was 13 and played this album on my parents stereo system in the living room.... being a latchkey kid I would crank it up and play my "air guitar" I still have the album and also my "air guitar" .... LOL
Growing up in the New England area, I knew Brad and Tom (Brad lived just a few towns over from me). I still can't stop shedding a tear when I hear this album...A lot of folks don't know that Tom played every instrument on this album (except the drums). Extremely talented. Brad Delp has a range in his voice that very few guys have. Powerful, pure voice, I was devastated when I heard from a friend he was gone.
I have heard this song before, but have rediscovered it again. It's one of the greatest compositions and musical performances ever. The more I listen to it, the better it becomes.
I am 59 yrs. old, and a GREAT talent was lost with Brad Delp, he is not replaceable, in my opinion, feeling grateful for the time he shared his talent with the world!
Did he committe suicide by gun shot? I read he had depression really bad😥, he is irreplaceable, no one can come close to his vocal talent, I wish I could have seen them live!!! ❤️Boston, who else does?
I 100% agree. He had just an amazing vocal range and never got near enough credit for his singing ability. I can't imagine anyone else being the lead singer for BOSTON. He could go very soft and then blast out pure power in the next verse with ease. Just an incredible vocal talent ! May he R.I.P.
I just turned 60 last month and this is the music I grew up listening to in the 70's and I still do today in 2024 and on into 2025 as well Thank You for the greatest music from the 70's and 80's as well as the 60's too.🎶🎤🎸🎸🎹🥁🎶
I think I Have to agree with your Assesment I Played in bands for Years and never heard anyone Have the vocal Range And Rock Voice In History and I saw Boston 4TIMES Inside and outside He always sounded exactly the same. Best Rock voice ever In My opinion!!!!!! R.I.P. Brad
This song does exactly what a song is supposed to do and that’s to elicit a feeling, emotion or a memory and that’s why it’s a perfect song. It’s timeless !!!
Started listening in 1976 at the age of 17. 2024 and I am still listening to Boston. It defined our generation. Rest in Peace Brad and thank you for those vocals. Unreal is the word I used after hearing this song so long ago. Still react the same way. Best of the best. Thanks to all those musicians who put this together. And special thanks to Tom without his creative and tenacity this would never be heard by millions upon millions of people.
I wish i could go to a Boston concert. I grew up to my grandparents listening to them and it just amaze me the talent is amazing. Brad Delp was my fave. He’s got the most beautiful pristine tone without even trying.
im sorry for your loss, i hope you're having a nice day. your dad and you sure had good music tastes, and he may be gone, but he'll forever be on our hearts. (i hope you believe the same so..)
It is hard to communicate just how tremendously BOSTON rocked the world of music when they blew onto the scene. Just imagine the world's ears hearing Brad's voice and all the layered guitars playing in harmony. The songs were fresh. hell, they were explosively, sonically galactic! The air rang out with Boston. Radio stations played multiple cuts on rotation. Every car with a tape deck was blasting it. My whole block got Boston concerts that summer of release, cos my windows were open & my Marantz turntable was spinning Boston with the receiver maxed to the max!! BOSTON was everything!!
A few people that I've met and talked to about this song something about it takes you and you don't ever forget it and when you hear it again it takes you and it always does.
@@MA-lm1ql Agree absolutely - and each musician seems so utterly engaged and so very capable. It is a pleasure to watch again and again without tiring. It is a piece of magic.
This song gives me the chills, it’s put together so tight in tune with the chords of the guitar. Brads voice is extraordinary, the guitar licks kick ass!
I'm so happy I was born into this music..and my mom is still listening to this..I will never let go of my passion for this song and hundreds more like it..and for a man to hit that note..love it n always will..
I’m 67 and it doesn’t matter your age in my opinion, songs like this are like an exceptional wine. They are iconic, beautiful and get better with age. 👏😁🇦🇺
God I love this song ,I'm nearly 62 and I still love cranking this up in the car and home too . I spend my time listening to Greatest hits radio here in 🇬🇧 , the regs are playing today's dribble and it's not for me . Just wish music like this would come back!! Who ever reads this you have Amazing taste in music. Stay safe and well with what's happening in the world now.
From Canada I'm worried about the U.S. Loved this band and the album covers where classic, Don't look back, Long time. We have no new home to search for. PS I'm nearly 62 :)
Being a long haired dude in the early 80s who discovered the freedom of rock and roll, the power of guitars and the rush of riding a motorcycle....How I miss my youth
So sad it all had to end. Why did it end? It was like I woke up one morning and poof..gone. It was the favorite time of my life. I'm in what they call "the Golden Years" or in retirement now and it was supposed to be good(?). I'd go back to 70's in a nanosecond
@@deb4522I’m 58 this year and I’d go back too. No damned computers ruling our lives, stupid social media. Most people were decent, polite and sincere. Just a much simpler time. God I miss that world.
Music between the 60-80s will forever be timeless regardless of genre. Rock, Mod, Punk, Rap, ect. This era created timeless classics that will never be forgotten.
I honestly believe that nothing will EVER come close to a track like this. For sounding like it came from outer space, it blows my mind that it was recorded in a small basement in 1976. A timeless song that will truly remain as one of the greatest records of all time. 1976!...and forever Edit: It's important to listen to this song cranked on full volume through a not overly bass heavy/boomy speaker system (yeah, fuck the neighbours) - you really get a proper feel for the tune and hear all the brilliant nuances of Tom Scholz's playing and mastery production
@@FabDino Rush were still great amateurs when this was released. Tho they did eclipse Boston in the 80's because Boston fell off the map. Early Rush is epic tho.
I told my teenage son to listen to this song with a good pair of headphones. We heard it on the radio in the car, but I wanted him to REALLY listen. A few days later he said “Dad, I did what you said…. It gave me chills.” 😁
I came up with a theory that I feel could explain why music can seemingly teleport you back in time ; Songs that moved you strongly in a given time in your life become associated in your memory with virtually everything that was happening to you at that time whether you realize it or not. It is all stored there within your brain, in areas of your brain responsible for storing different types of sensory input as well as emotional input. Sound, smells, sights, emotional state, where you were in space at that time, sometimes even the politics of the time to name but a few of hundreds of things that are stored in different neural pathways and destinations within your brain. I believe that the sound of a song that once stirred you deeply somehow generates a neural pulse or removes a filter which normally separates all of those memory fragments; resulting in the immediate synthesis of all those old disparate snatches of memory gathered from different areas of your brain. This process brings all of experiences connected with the song directly into your consciousness giving the sensation of being in the past. Put another way, it is the involuntary simultaneous awareness of all of the sensory input and memories from different places in your brain that give you the feeling of actually being there, because in a sense you really ARE since you ARE your brain. And for a while your brain is aware of and experiencing nearly all of the things you were feeling when that song was popular. Speaking strictly for myself, when I begin to hear an oldie from decades gone by, I actually experience a sort of Gestalt burst that seems to convey the complete milieu of my being at that time. It is a fleeting feeling but it is very very strong and real. Music is Magic. Because it IS Magic.Throughout all of history every society has had music. In fact I'm certain music predates society because the rhythm of drums and chants a campfire began very very early at a tribal level
40 years later, still one of the most incredible rock songs ever made. Lead singers voice is truly haunting. No one will EVER be able to hit those notes in tune like him. Stunning.
I was working at a gas station, I was 17 in 1976, when this album came out. From the first second you heard it, you were completely hooked, the guitars sounded so ferocious for am radio, the thing was mixed so great, the tunes so perfectly crafted. They were truly instantly famous because the music was so strong.
That was when FM started coming on strong, though there were still quite a few AMs playing Top 40 (now called CHR). I was 13 in '76, so you and I are now practically the same age. This song (as did most) sounded much better on FM than AM.
@@gordonmodel94jr.39 I graduated in '81. In the summer of '78, I gravitated from pop to country. For the past few decades, for me, it's been oldies (both pop and country).
Outstanding singing. Out of this world guitar playing. Wonderful arrangement. Most of all living through the times when this music was around was a privilege 👌 x
I'm 67 yrs old, heard Boston for the 1st time walking down a dusty street in a place called Los Angeles in southern Chile in 1976 as a missionary for the LDS church and thought man, what great music. Been married for 45 yrs but every time I hear this song and particularly the line "and dream of a girl I used to know" takes me back almost 50 yrs and the memory of the cutest, nicest, sweetest girl I ever knew and wished I had danced with her when she asked me too, she was with another guy and he wasn't treating her very well but I didn't want to cause any trouble, all I can say is if a girl asks you to dance even if she is with someone else, do it or you'll be regretting it for a long, long time.
Rock’n’Roll Band was my 2nd favorite cut on that album. If you want to really test your audio equipment then use Hitch a Ride, it exercises the entire audio spectrum from 16 hertz to 22 khertz..
Look I lived in the Boston area and remember that genius Tom he transformed music soo far advance.we all were held in AWE BOSTON WAS AN AWESOME BAND WAY BACK WHEN . THANK YOU TOM FOR ALL THOSE GOOD TIMES GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ❤️
Brad Delp's voice in this song is just perfect. The way he climbs with his voice to the high notes. What makes it so special is no matter how high his voice gets the intensity stays the same. The power behind each note is just as much as the one before. This song is a piece of art. There just is no better way to describe this. It's musical art at its best! When you look at Brad's face as he sings you can see he is genuinely having a good time with it. He has mentioned in interviews that he always dredded having to sing it live because it was musically very difficult for him to do, hitting those high notes and then carry on with a full show. Or vice versa, be singing the whole night and then try to hit those notes near the latter part of a show, but when they hired the female in the band she picked up the high part for him. He said he would just point if he needed the boost and she would provide it. But he said he always sang it because he knew it was a fan favorite. Some days it was just better than others. I get that. No one has a studio voice 24/7/365. At least not anyone with Brad's voice. RIP - Brad, you were definitely something special.
@@patbaker2100 Boston was one of the few bands to do double tracking in their music which I would bet is what happened with Brad's voice blending in. I'm also pretty sure made it difficult to reproduce live.
I remember when they played Philly in 77. He was able to get the high notes first time around but even when he missed it, he just kept singing and smiling through the whole thing. Great memories for a 16 year old kid who drove 12 hours from Greenville SC to get there! I’m in a time machine every time I hear it.
As someone who’s in my twenties, I always find it interesting to go into the comments in one of these videos and see people far older than me. Boston’s still alive and well for some of us youngsters.
I’m very young compared to most, if not everyone in this comment section. I guess I just inherited my dad’s music taste and I honestly, I wouldn’t want anything else
Brad's voice in this song simply soars. It's like a rocket leaving the planet. Just when you think it's reached the limit, he cranks it into another octave and even the angels are going "Damn, that's beautiful."
I think its a technique musically known as a fugue. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fugue Listen to how Brad works with the voices of the rest of the band. These guys knew what they were doing. Bach was a genius at these able to compose 11 layers in his head.
Lorie, thank you for sharing.. i love this smooth song through the years, have the album and cassette..yes i'm that old :) but its good to see a memory shared. Sorry for the lost but you have the memory. Hang on to that. Hugs.
I am almost 70 years old, and the song still makes the hair on my arms and neck stand on edge, and my eyes tear up when Maryanne slips away! This song brought me out of a two year long sadness when my "Maryanne" slipped away!
I've heard this music on the radio but didn't know a thing about who sang it or what was it, I just knew it was amazing. I finally found it, and boy oh boy, it blew me away! What a talent! These guys are amazing!!!
To be 16, driving down the highway with all your friends in the car listening to this for the first time on your fm radio. Thank God I was a teenager in the 70's...best music ever!
And your kids say the same thing about the 90's. And your grand kids say the same thing about the 2010's. And your great-grand kids WILL say the same thing in the 2030's. So? Buy a life, child.
This song came out in 1976, when I was 12 years old. I used to listen to it on a small AM/FM radio. It's now March of 2023, 47 years later, and I haven't tired of listening to it. It is absolutely beautiful and flawless, in my opinion. Brad Delp was one of the greatest male vocalists in Rock history. I didn't learn until decades after I first heard them that Delp sang all the vocal parts on their first album. What an amazing talent, and that first album is perfect. Long live Boston.
AMEN 🙏🏼 I always think Tom & Brad were God saying “Well let’s sprinkle a little genius 🧮around…see that Scholz kid at MIT … let’s have him cross paths w the Delp boy “ 🎶
It doesn't matter how many times you've heard it or how much time passes between each time you hear it - this song gives you goosebumps and moves you, wherever you are and whatever you're doing. The absolute definition of timeless.

These Boston tunes still ring true today nearly 50 years on from their creation and release. The release of Boston's debut album 'Boston' in AUG 1976 coincided with my freshman year in college. As such a formative time in my life the entire 'Boston' album remains forever indelible in my heart & soul. RIP Brad Delp!
...same for me....lived in a big dorm complex...seems like this song could be heard 24/7...being cranked out at top volume from various dorm rooms. Note: windows were open as dorms were not air-conditioned in "olden times"
@@pappydc12 This song debuted in late '76. I was in 8th grade then. I'm sure what you said about it being heard 24/7 isn't hyperbole. Now it's hip-hop. I think if kids today listened to "our" music, they'd have a collective nervous breakdown.
I, too, started as a college freshman, late August of '76. Aimed my speakers out of my third floor dorm room window and cranked up Boston, Fleetwood Mac, or the Doobie Brothers. Great times out on the lawn below...!
As an album, as close to perfection as you can get. It is a shame however that todays FM radio has overplayed it so much that you never pull it out of the stack and listen to it in its entirety
Whoever was the audio engineer for them on this whole album is a straight BOSS. The audio quality is so tight ,clear , and crispy in all the right ways, especially for the TIME it was
The ENTIRE FIRST ALBUM was made in Tom Scholz basement in Boston, Mass (Watertown actually) and the entire 1st album took about 6 years for Tom to perfect and Brad Delp was brought in to sing lead vocals after Tom was finished. Several record companies said no before it was produced and Tom and the record company kept this "one man band" a secret and even Brad Delp didn't know the truth until the mid 1980's. The record company made Tom come up with other band members to help sell the band to concert venues and of course promote albums. When you buy the original 1st album/CD you are listening to a one man band (with Brad Delps vocals) Amazing but true. If you want to see the basement where album one was recorded watch this now! ua-cam.com/video/da7IyPKUOwg/v-deo.htmlsi=7FYHPg8iOBXlk-yE
Summer 1976. I was 18 years old when I, with my green WV Beetle and my friends heard this immortal song for the first time. It was a fantastic night. I drove on the highway most of the night, then we slept in sleeping bags next to the Beetle. The sunrise. Then the sea. I'm 65 now. It was a moment to go from being a teenager to finding myself... old. Every now and then I listen to this song together with the others that were the soundtrack to my youth and the memories become crowded, school, girls, cigarettes, liquor, parties. The future. Now remain a thread of nostalgia.

RIP Brad. You songs are timeless.
I was 16 when Boston started. I'm now 61. Can't take classic rock away.

Yea, we've done lived long enough to see todays hits turn to classic rock.

The vocal range that Brad Delp had is unbelievable. One of the best voices in rock. RIP

Timeless. Isn't it amazing how music can take you to anytime in your life?
Agree
It's what you call soul
Así es ,
I came up with a theory that I feel could explain why music can seemingly teleport you back in time ; Songs that moved you strongly in a given time in your life become associated in your memory with virtually everything that was happening to you at that time whether you realize it or not.
@@Smedley1947 yes

I was working at a gas station, I was 17 in 1976, when this album came out. From the first second you heard it, you were completely hooked, the guitars sounded so ferocious for am radio, the thing was mixed so great, the tunes so perfectly crafted. They were truly instantly famous because the music was so strong.

That was when FM started coming on strong, though there were still quite a few AMs playing Top 40 (now called CHR). I was 13 in '76, so you and I are now practically the same age. This song (as did most) sounded much better on FM than AM.

Probably better you didn't dance with her. Wouldn't regret a thing mate. You could have walked into a minefield.

I'm amazed at how his voice just blends together with the guitar on those high notes.
@@patbaker2100 Boston was one of the few bands to do double tracking in their music which I would bet is what happened with Brad's voice blending in. I'm also pretty sure made it difficult to reproduce live.

Not only is it criminal that this band is not in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame, what is equally criminal is how underrated Brad Delp is.
No way! That is criminal! 😮
That is why the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is meaningless.
Concordo plenamente!
What?
Well they have to make room for people who are not worthy, like Rappers. but hey Maybe one day they will wake up and put Boston in there!
This song is almost too perfect. Having a hard time believing humans could put this together. Was it really this good live?
These bands back in the day were unbelievable their sound their voices most sounded like their albums
Brad Delp and Freddie Mercury, for me, are two of the greatest voices to ever grace rock.
Same
I would also add Chris Cornell.
I’d add Steve Perry
Throw in Steve Marriott to boot.
Add don Henley and Lou Graham
Their entire 1st album is nothing short of a masterpiece.
As an album, as close to perfection as you can get.
It is a shame however that todays FM radio has overplayed it so much that you never pull it out of the stack and listen to it in its entirety
Drummer great timing and tempi change ❤ love this band and the songs 🥰👍
Whoever was the audio engineer for them on this whole album is a straight BOSS. The audio quality is so tight ,clear , and crispy in all the right ways, especially for the TIME it was
It was made in guitarists basement, and he helped record and mix basically all of it
The ENTIRE FIRST ALBUM was made in Tom Scholz basement in Boston, Mass (Watertown actually) and the entire 1st album took about 6 years for Tom to perfect and Brad Delp was brought in to sing lead vocals after Tom was finished.
Tom didn't play drums...Sib did@@salesdept8245
Tom Scholz was close to a one-man show on this album.
The guy is a musical savant.
@@salesdept8245 As I understand it, some of this record's material was written in *1965*. Tom Scholz is a genius.
One of the greatest lines and guitar riffs of all time....."I closed my eyes and I slipped away"
Wish you a long joyful ride ahead granpa
This makes me want to weep.
I think we've all had that first love/crush we could have been more open and honest to. But that opportunity has long since gone but the memory of how they were is crystal sharp and brings that rueful smile of lost opportunities yet good memories. A lovely bittersweet song that can't be beaten
