2024 ... who else is still suprisingly alive...
My wife was there up on the balcony. She said they were one of the best bands to appear on The Tube
My friend Scott and I would jump around and sing like fools to Big Country. Lost Scott to cancer 6 years ago and still think of him when I hear this song. RIP Scottie. Love and miss you brother
I'm sorry about the loss of your friend. But you had your good times together, the love you had for each other like brothers, and the many shared memories (like this song) that will always remain, forever. ✌🏾😎
poignant
Memories never die mate, remember the good times!! 🙏
@@Spartacus45 Amen my friend
..what a great way to remember your beloved brother! ❤
I just love this. People on stage enjoying themselves. No dramas. No egos. Just better times. The 80s Big Country were superb
I do rather miss the times when you could go on to a stage or a sports field at the end of a match and nobody would chuck you off. I understand why that stopped, but it's great to see.
Aye , no who's sha##n who in the club, no bit*es in the limo.
I'm behind you 🏴👌
Totally agree.
The singer committed suicide.
Proud to say I live in the boy’s hometown of Dunfermline in Scotland and these guys are absolute legends in the town. Hello from Dunfermline Scotland.
Yank here, god bless the Scott’s
Hullo therr, from Bristol. I was working in Dunfermline in 2001 when Stuart died, what a singer and songwriter. It only later I discovered Into the Valley was written about High Valleyfield near Culross,
So sorely missed.

Hello from America 🇺🇸 I have always and will love this band ♥️
Who can not stop listening to this beautiful hymn 34 years later?
You must watch THE ONE I LOVE live on the tonight show from 1993-95 maybe his voice is amazing and he looks very handsome lol
This song stays alive!!!
This video version is the best one for me - bonus guitar sync dancing too ! Loved it since it came out, never stopped !
l didn't know he had passed away. l am so sorry for his family. l went to see them in Dublin .absolutely amazing. r.l.p. xxxx
......... I Can't,Even if I Tried.This WAS MUSIC,No Matter what TODAYS Critics Think!!!!!!!!!!!
My dad bought me my first car (a used 77 Toyota celica, a bit beat up) in 1984 and when I picked it up and drove it home, I turned on the radio. This song was playing. I felt like I was in heaven, I felt free. It was the 1980s and I was in high school with my whole life in front of me. I was driving a car. It was a Houston summer. The traffic was jumpin. I'll NEVER forget the ENERGY this song gave me that night!!!!!!!!!!
Great story!
I can relate!! Cool story keep the memories alive! Smile and laugh when you hear this song.
@@joannemarquez2085 amen thanks
So envious of that feeling! Something to have had 😊
Love those Houston summers!!
It’s 2022 and I’m still rockin out to this! Thanks Stuart, your talent lives on.
Same here .. great memories great times great band
I keep them in regular rotation on all of my mp3 players.
Still here 2022.
I was born in Dunfermline
I’m 57 n still love them
If Stuart knew One Tenth of the Joy that he brought, he would never have left,
God Bless you Stu.
You're right, this song is one of the best ever. Who could have written a line like "I never took the smile away from anybody's face". True elegance.
@@MichaelChristiaens Your right mate .
Your comment made me cry 😪

He hung himself in a closet in a hotel next to honolulu airport....never even made it to the beach.....i stayed at that hotel....very sad...i am thinking he went out there to get better or see the beach etc.... before he killed himself....but killed himself in a crappy hotel

RIP Stuart Adamson. This band deserved much more recognition - I feel alive when I listen to this,
I think people really do understand how great they were.
Amen

HEAR HEAR RIP STUART 🙏
This is next level bass playing.
Agreed - awesome bass! 🌌
I'm a Level and Jazz Funk fan but love Big Country and Thin Lizzy- just realised how natural it is to love the latter 2 and how similar Big Tone and Big Phils grooves are. Imagine what Phil and Stu could be coming up with in heaven- its not like there's going to be a lack of talent re a 2nd 5 string and keyboard player or bongo banger to jam with.😂❤❤
Still sounds awesome nearly 40 years later!!
Yup!
Not sure whether to laugh, cry, smile or get up and dance. Probably all of the above. I miss my youth. RIP Stuart.
I know what mean bro. miss him.
Aye.
Your memory is your youth relived. You may miss who you were before time passed by, and your youth will always exist whenever you recall it. Age is just a state of mind...
Was it a more innocent era or were we more innocent? No one who jumped the stage did anything ugly or stupid.
I hear that.
lets go back to the 80's. I have the time machine..... who is with me?
Warren Bounds Sign me up in Texas !!
Me!! I have almost got my Time machine completed!! Love the 80´s!!
Count me in!
I am laddy!! Let's go back and just stay there forever!!
Me too... not the movement ,just me too....
This song will always remind me of all the hopes and dreams I had as a young man. Thank you, Stewart Adamson!!!
Look at the audience... just jamming to the music and living in the moment without anyone holding up a cell phone!
The 80s were truly a special time!
If they existed eveyone would have had one, stop kidding yourself…
@@laravelisbullschitt3281 But they didn't and we never sat around wishing they were. I was in my early 20s in the 80s. Lived down in N. Miami Bch. I would much rather be young then than now. This place now is a total 💩💩💩💩show
They need to get rid of "smartphones", they are making people dumb! You are right, very few don't put that blanket down and just enjoy the moment or life. Always have to record or take a picture; for what. You remember the event more by seeing it.
you are so right! god I wish there was a time machine.. I would be back in the eighties like a shot
@hayabusabart If you find one book me on the first 💺 seat👍
Not only did 80's bands have talent and skill, they inherently had charisma and stage presence. Brilliant performance.
Never knew their bassist was that freakin' good! He's all over those funky bass lines like it's a breeze. Glad i caught this version
Tony Butler great bass player great vocal harmonies too, mans a fucking dude.
Would've loved to boogie ❤️❤️
Tony is fantastic!
Absolutely, his bass is the foundation of those searing guitar guitar lines.
The bass line is really easy in terms of notes, it’s the funk he puts into it! Most of the breaks are just an open E as far as I can hear!
That bass player is absolutely killing it!!!!!!
Tony is an incredible bass player, those lines are the best, that sound is electrifying , and those background vocals ... wooow !!!
@@lokomusic1971 And bopping around the stage with it. I love this version over the vinyl, except for the awful cloying thing of asking the audience to sing, the bass really cuts through.
The UK/Eire had some fabulous bands featuring brilliant bassists in the 80s. Still a shocker that we lost Andy Rourke earlier this year. When they're younger than yourself it makes you think of your own mortality.
Agreed!
Tony Butler, awesome bassist!!
He and the drummer previously played on Pete Townshend's Empty Glass!
My Dad worked for a chauffeuring company and drove these guys around London for a week or so in the early 80's. He said what a great bunch they were, funny and friendly. I loved them.
Scotland can be proud of how many great groups they produced in the 1980’s,
never mind a Big Country, they are a small Country but brought us lots of brilliant music during the best decade ever!
The bass player’s riffs are insanely good.
Tony Butler.
Here here
Tony is a monster on bass.
This is how you do it 👏 fabulous
DG, seen him with Pete Townshend couple vids
The bass on this tune is sublime...epic tune from an epic decade..God bless Scotland - Signed, A Texan 🤠🇺🇸🏴

A fellow Texan agrees.
The bass player Tony Butler is English not Scottish.
@@SuperEdge67 ...thank you for the clarification but it still stands; God Bless Scotland.... carry on...

Everyone of us who were seniors that year absolutely knew that this was the best that life would ever be and it would never be this good again..and we were right.

Impossible to watch this without singing along. RIP Stuart 💙
Music like this makes the world a better place to live! ROCK ON!!!
No playback. no auto tune. Just talent.
The bass is fire!!!!!this is a classic!
Yeah - he's killing it!
Hell yes
Such a joy to see these guys so young and full of life. What times those were!
This was recorded 5 days before I was born. Still own the album on vinyl. Easily in my top 10 favorite songs.
That bassist has to be cracking the foundation of that venue with his Fender Precision sound. So amazing!
Of course, was he the first black bass player? Surely he was the first black something.
Stuart Adamson: Such a wonderful talent. A brilliant songwriter. An amazing guitarist with a style very much all of his own. So missed.
It makes me sad that Stuart had so much joy performing on stage but couldn't find that same joy in his personal life. This song always makes my heart ache, but in a good way.
Amen!❤
Like John Lennon. Sadly we can't bring him back. Not the same band without the original and especially "The Key man".
Every time i listen to this song it's just like the first time. Amazing voice and energy.
Tony must be one of the most underrated bass players ever. The noise he gets from the bass is unparalleled 👌
RIP Stuart, your legend lives on 🙏
The band that should have been every bit as huge as U2. We miss you still, Stuart.
should have been bigger. Just brilliant
They were far better U2 imo.
They were,to me!!!
The edge paid an awesome tribute to Stuart saying they’re wrote tunes that they (U2) were in admiration of and wanted to replicate
2 totally different!!
You know it's the 80's with that amount of sweat on bands performing.
That’s because they weren’t lip syncing
The energy! :-)
And the crowd dancing, too...
Not standing still like already dead 🤪
These guys were the real deal..x
leokimvideo - (sniff) What are you implying? (sniff, sniff)
What a great band - I've never heard this live version, and it just SHREDS
The energy they possess is incredible
I want to go back to the 80s’ so badly. It was the best time to be alive.
It's hard to believe that this was 34 years ago today! Such a great song by a brilliant band - may their legacy live on! (Rest In Peace Stuart)
killer song!
@@michaelhicks3975 AMAZING SONG GREAT BAND REST IN PEACE STUART
Wow I was 13 when this song came out. Sure doesn't seem like 34 has gone by. That was a very sobering moment.
I think they should of used the song in Still Game would of been brilliant with Bobby
Much agreed!!👍
The Edge said at Stuart's funeral 'He wrote the kind of songs that U2 wish we had written'.
Yes
When The Skids were in their pomp I asked Edge who was his favourite guitarist. He said Stuart Adamson & Tom Verlaine (Television). Made total sense to me.
The drummer plays some amazing fills throughout this song!😮
Truly one of the greatest songs of all time. RIP Stuart

Certain things in life, you only get one chance.
On occasions when I was mumbling away,my dad would interrupt with,
"Coulda,woulda,shoulda.."
It sunk in,eventually.
Good on you,boys.
Got up there. Did the jig. Had a laugh.
Rest in eternal peace Mr Adamson , thank you for music and memories . A 52 Yr old Englishman
I was so in-awe of Stuart Adamson. I didn't know his name at the time, nor that he died in 2001. I'm grateful for the many great artists in my lifetime.
Some of the greatest music in Britain came out of Scotland. I loved Big Country in my youth. Great times and fantastic songs from a fabulous band. R.I.P Stuart. Oh man your missed.
Stuart Adamson will live forever in his brilliant songs! He was a true innovator and such a sweet person. The whole band is just rockin it up there! What a show!
3 main takeaways:
- this song is a special kind of beautiful that tears me up
- headphone technology has come so far (1:01)
- when they start rocking together at 1:08 gives me chills every time and the thrusting in unison is immortal
Aye!
Wow. 80s and 90s was peak humanity. What a bloody good song.
I just love Tony Butler's crunchy bass on that song........ takes me right back. RIP Stuart
That bass line is just tasty
Those fellas was genuine,the other guys,,from,,Dublin,,got to commercial,,dumb,fat ,,happy,,,,BIG COUNTRY,,FOREVER!!!!
That bass tone kills!
He was solid (and vital) for sure. Another player whose band would be absolutely empty without his bass-parts is Brian Ritchie of Violent Femmes. Never underestimate the bass-player (I say this as a guitar/keyboard/frontman). 👍
I love how a couple of guys get on the stage to dance, then another fan actually kisses Stuart and nobody cares. A great band, they really really were. Wonderful song. Also, the bass player is incredible, and they make guitars sound like bagpipes
Now snowflakes would have whined that she sexually assaulted him
I agree, just harmless fun and everyone getting along. If that happened now security would have hauled the fans off.
@@goldenblue8991If this happened now, it'd probably be because the fans are trying "Lennon" the band... It's happened enough times to be cautious. Blame the idiots for ruining everything...
Not everything is about the culture war, man.

Still as awesome as the day it was released, my second year at senior/high school!! Great bass player too, Tony Butler if I remember rightly?
God bless you Stuart, I hope your troubles have now passed, rest in peace, you are sadly missed!! 🙏
His voice is amazing
I love UA-cam! If it wasn't for youtube I'd never get to see the greatest performances ever by awesome bands like Big Country

One of the killer top songs of the 80s, I loved that decade and I feel sorry for the ones that didn’t have that opportunity to experience that era
You're gone, Stu, but I and your many other fans cannot forget you (not that we'd ever want to). Stuart Adamson is on a very special list of musicians who not only pleased my ears but touched my heart, too. Thanks to UA-cam and other avenues, we can time-travel and see you alive, well and playing the songs (BC and Skids) that we remain in love with.
Every 6 months or so I come back to listen to this song. It’s one of my favorite non-metal songs. The performance is fantastic and difficult not to watch more than once.
Absolutely correct!!!!
I was 14 when this song came out. I was/am a big metal-head, but I really loved this song. Such a great performance. I love how some of the crowd came up on stage and the band didn't bat an eyelash. If that happens today, those kids would've been laid out. Loved the 80's
I remember listening to a recording from a radio station (one of the BBC's radio stations, IINM) that came out after Stuart's death. The band broke a lot of taboos in a time when it was not common for bands to mingle with their supporters during performances. In one instance they were looking for Stuart during a break and they found him down in the crowd chatting with some fans, eating a Flake ! :D
A B saw them a few times they were great
After what happened to Dimebag Darrell, fans jumping on stage isn’t tolerated anymore.
Same here buddy
Ditto
That Bass sound's badass
Yeah man, killer tone!
These guys could play, and great vocals also
Tony Butler really drives this song with that bass playing , what a sound as well
Agree. This dude is just laying it down.
@@rbjax2001 . Yup awesome bassist.

The rhythm section is so tight on this tune! That little skip-gallop they do at the end of each bar turns this Scottish folk tune into HEAVY METAL!!! 🤘
This is so rock, but so clearly Scottish. Perfect
Love the energy and stage presence! RIP Stuart. May God Bless you and all of Scotland.
These two guys could really harmonize their vocals. They sound fantastic!
I wish I was there!!!!!!!!!
Hands down one of greatest songs of the 80’s! Pure musicianship!
This always makes me feel so melancholy, the melody and seeing Stuart playing, I was a teenager and the sound always inspired my ,that huge guitar that sounds like bagpipes through the mountains. Playing music now I try to get that huge atmosphere in the sounds , Stuart you are missed
