Still watching and loving it in 2025!❤
Me 2
Anyone else watching this in 2024 where did that 40yrs go what a song and what a band simply brilliant
I was in 11th grade when I bought the album/cassette. I fell in love with this song and have always gone back to it. this is great.
Cracking band and very sad I didn’t get to see them live .
Still listening!
Me too, hogmanay shows on early 80s , amazing. Stuart Adamson, a hero
@@rayrudge8471
They were amazing live, saw them many times in their prime
Big Country is such a criminally underrated band, Their music gives you a since of happiness and sadness at the same time
Nobody EVER underrated Big Country. 🙄
Best gig I ever went to ❤
This song in particular goes from sadness to a sense almost of triumphant defiance. Never fails to send a shiver down my spine before it lifts you back up with those power chords.
I used to listen to it when I was driving to this job I hated; the only plus to it was that the commute took me through the Lancashire countryside so I could put the stereo on full blast and sing along. This tune was the perfect soundtrack to that.
Without sounding like an old fart, compared to artists of today, the humility of these guys just shines through doesn't it. They were brilliant, and knew it, but without all the ridiculous posturing of today. So very glad I was a teen of the 80s ♥
So true. Nice comment 😁.Thats how i feel about BC
Exactly!
Was there with you. Miss those days.
They sure were the days Sarah. Great bands who wrote there own tunes and lyrics. Not like the cover crap today.
@@Mftw767 He had rather a sad demise didn't he if I remember correctly...
Every time I hear and/or see Stuart Adamson, I am at first joyful, then profoundly sad. Big Country had me as a lifelong fan from the moment the first few notes of In a Big Country blasted out my radio back in the '80s. Guitars sounding like bagpipes? From a Scottish band, pure genius. I had a brief, very positive, chat with Stu on the Big Country message board when I was researching to build a website to honour Skids, his previous band. I respected and admired his passion, and his compassion for his fellow humans that shone through on every song he wrote. Stu was an excellent guitarist, equally adept at planet-smashing power chords or quiet, sensitive passages. This video showcases how well he connected with his devoted fans. He also had the interwoven demons of depression and alcohol. Given that, it wasn't a complete shock when I heard he'd killed himself. I was devastated then, and still feel the echoes of that. Damn, Stu, I hope you made it to a happier place.
He was a generation who believed in Scotland thank god for the eighties
I slit my wrist listening to this struggling with family neglect and I had recently found out my dad had two families an estate away, a big bro ten yrs older, my da was Scottish I’m Geordie and my mum said I’m not taking u to hospital coz yer da will kill me, now clean that blood off yer wall. This song still resonates with me
I’m a geordie too samy. Good to be a geordie hope you are ok
@@MrKrobbo I’m ok. Still struggling with demons who were my parents but I now have a big bro to help make sense of everything. Thanks for reaching out, mores people run from damaged people. I appreciate your comment.
@@MrKrobbo I worked in Trillians for a few months before moving away , running from my past but it always seems to catch you unawares. This time with utube randomly putting this song into my feed. I have two sons and ran away from newcastle, I’m thinking about moving home but not sure I’m strong enough yet.
One of the best Scottish😢 groups ever❤2024❤
Over 30yrs later, its still a classic.
I like your words,
40 years almost
Still one of my VERY fav songs.
Mesmerizing & beautiful song. Big Country was grossly underrated.
Classics never die mate.
I met Stuart once at Alan Duffus's old motorcycle shop in Kirkcaldy,i was just standing there,a kid with my dad and i was just aware of this tall guy walking up behind me,it was Stuart in his bike leathers,he looked huge!!
Turned to my dad tugging his jacket,"look, look dad it's Stuart Adamson from Big Country!!",ofcourse my dad hadn't a clue who he was!!lol.
I ran into the shop to get paper and a pen to get his autograph and he signed it for me,feel so blessed to have met him, really down to earth nice guy!!Loved Chance!!
Scotland punches well above its weight on the musical scene, tremendous country, amazing people and great music.
Phil'O's Garage Agree...and I’m English, Lol .

@@crg1819 Me too
Sweet, Lulu , Annie Lennox, Mige Ure, the list can go on
I'm 26 born in 1993 and this song is legendary I play it on repeat
Scotland and Ireland produced some really great bands - We feel bonded like Celtic brothers - This song is truly magnificent - it hits you right in the heart
How bloody awesome was the Tube!
It was sometimes pretty gash as i remember😂
“I’ve never felt so low”
A tragic line
God bless you Stuart
Yes there was your red flag right there in that line,18 years before he took his own life.
We miss him big time! We will see you again Stuart.
Had the good fortune to meet Stuart Adamson. They say you should never meet your heroes. He must be the exception to the rule. What an engaging humble down to earth guy he was.I hope he is finally at peace.
that guitar intro always gives me goosebumps, one of the finest songs of the 1980s or any decade sublime, only 120,000 views whilst shit songs get over a billion,ah well this will always be sublime
Great Musical Taste : it's a very elite club
@@a.c.4732 👍💯
Agree wholeheartedly. The bubble gum crap that is commercially produced today is simply non music.
Amen...
So missed ❤
Stuart Adamson was such a unique musician and songwriter. His sound will never be replicated. The Crossing remains one of my favourite albums of all time, and never gets boring or repetitive.
Stuart Adamson's distinctive guitar sound and personal lyrics, Tony Butler's groovy bass which jumps right out, and Mark Brzezicki's intricate and syncopated drum patterns.
This song itself reminds me of my dad and very fond memories of it. A desert island disk for me.
Jeez 35 years ago. I watched the Tube every week and when these boys appeared I was hooked big time, RIP to a creative legend Stuart Adamson
Deliberately wiggn' out
because my brother he was 4 years older my only sibling he was murderd and he's the only one that would of smiled like sneaky and say come here look turn bass on up volume etc we communicated through music as different versions usually unclear but the original no one could recall or know what band tried Google song had this verse usually but this didn't help me at all Google usually gets it but not (old country's band)
I felt stoked enlisted enlightened belatedly happy sand
proud that I seen the pic old school cover pic I went wait a minute..
OMG no way coolest lol THE inter kid in me at 53
I got no shame in the moment matters the timing is everything all split seconds add up in all my equations.
I literally was skipping around dancing to the Song was CHANCE played
I am REMEMBERING ALL THEIR SONGS. Plus LIVING IT then OMG now I feel content.

Big Country were an amazing band and Stuart was not only one of the best guitarists in rock, but also one of the best songwriters. With the brilliance of the entire band as musicians, that fact often gets overlooked. But, after all, they were playing HIS songs!
The only bands who’s songs spoke to me. Sorely miss this line up. Stuart you may be gone but you’ll never be forgotten.
Still upsets me that this wounderful guy took is own life. Sadly missed, but not forgotten. rest in peace xxx
Kudos on the recording/mix. Crazy to hear all instruments so clearly on a live recording
Fuck I’m so glad I was old enough to appreciate Big Country.. This sound was unique and refreshing…
I'm happy too for you
I used to listen to this when I wandered through our forest in fall, alone, longing for love and hoping for better Days in Life. I didn’t know, nearly 40yrs later, that these were the lucky ones.
I was shocked when I learned of Stuart's passing away. Rest in peace, I hope your voice is filling heaven. Your and your band mates wonderful music will endure long after I am gone.
Oh lord...where did the 80's go
Time happened
He came like a hero from the factory floor with the sun and the moon his gift. Lord ,I would die a happy man if I had written that line.
Yeah, just pure poetry and a unique sound.
How many Singers write lyrics like that these days?
👍🎸👏
@@empireman1077 Paul Heaton does, the most underrated of lyricists, mind you he was writing back when this was performed so I don't suppose you could rate him as current.
"But the only son you ever saw were the two he left you with" lyrical genius!
Throu all the pain and suffering , i dedicate this song to me ! Cancer can take ye ! And i never felt so low ! God bless stuart for this song
I hope you're still with us
I loved big country as a kid in the 80s, today in 2019 I love them even more.
I listen almost daily and still get goosebumps, their songs are timeless.
Stuart you are a God to me.
Same here put them on all the time even got my apprentice liking themed hes 19
well said,we will never see or hear the likes again,we were spoilt in the 80s and didnt realise it
Same
You know, one of the best things about being in my 50's now is that I lived my teenage years in the 80's..........Priceless and I wouldn't change them for the world!
Absolutely. A wonderful place to be.

Old. I’m 76 and loving it. And yea. You are right. Nice to see a great band without everything that is Today’s World
You're 100% I'm 60yrs old and my life feels like it's coming apart at the seams but the music just keeps bringing me back from ever giving up I'm soo lucky I've loved BC since heard way back in the 80’s and saw them live its great how much they're loved ❤
"Chance" always reduces me to tears. The Tube really brought so many fantastic performers into our homes and enabled them to reach a wide audience. Amazingly from 5.30 to 7pm, if I'm not not mistaken.
It’s a fantastic powerful song.
I’ve been so honoured to see so many bands spread over 40 plus years, BC were right up there to see live
"Oh lord, where did the feeling go, oh lord, I never felt so." - Oh dear, these words hit like a hammer, because they are so sad.
low not so I think, and that makes it even sadder
Maaan! Fuck off! I haven't heard this for 35 years. I am So blown away. Thanks so much to the lovely soul who uploaded this.
What a writer Stuart was...true genius. The way he put words together to paint the picture is unique. 32 years listening...it will never end until it's over
🙌🏴🎸
Stu was a genius on the guitar the only guy who could make them sound like the pipes. The planet is dark without you here Big Man. RIP.
Christ, Stuart, what a loss you are. Rest in peace.
So nice to see people watching musicians and enjoying music, not standing with their fu...ng smartphones !! The real good days !!
Amen brother
Concordo com você plenamente. Atualmente temos dado mais valor a celulares e deixado de lado as pessoas ao nosso redor como se um mero objeto fosse mais importante do que viver momentos reais ao lado de quem realmente amamos.
I totally agree with you. Nowadays we have given more value to cell phones and set aside the people around us as if a mere object were more important than living real moments with those we really love.
Totally acree with you, nothing worse than some bellend waiving a smart phone around in front of you
I'm 26 and this song is on repeat all the time, it was out 9 year befor I was born too.
Oh Stuart,
I just never grasped the reality of what you were going through here ,
You were the perfect example of that eras dilemmas, on the surface triumphant , all conquering masterpiece , in reality , like all of us , fatally flawed !
The world was in a better place when you were around , now it’s empty !
I used to play this on my crappy amp and Line6 pod. I’d switch from reverb to distortion and back again for the outro. One of those little eternal inspirations. I still play it. A real song.
This group were actually sublime and this particular track was just awesome , for real . 😊
Stuart has been gone for 20 years now.To see him young and happy is both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.He is so missed.
All of the commentary is glorious - YOU are my people! I thought I was the only one who loved this song. The feeling is still here, 2020.
The date on this is the day I became a teenager! What great music I was lucky to live my teen years through😊
One of the finest poets and Guitar Hero's!
Was about 15 years old when this was on TV,Brilliant band, fantastic songs, RIP Stuart.
What a band..still sounds as fresh today as it did in the 80,s..my favourite band
After 37 Years....it´s still magic...the Lyrics and the Voice of Stuart...my BC Fav!!!
The best. Passion in music is lost to these guys. Our family oft try to create timeline of our favourite music and Big Country always sneak up to the top.
Back around 1989/90 the girl who became my first wife got a video of BC's greatest hits. This was my introduction to them. I love this band and so many of their songs. We went on to see them live on a couple of occasions, and I'd say they were the best gigs I've been to. Their music really speaks to you, Stuart was a truly gifted lyricist, and all are truly gifted musicians. I'm so glad I got something so positive out of the relationship
A beautiful song... might be my favorite from this unique band.
Brilliant band. Love this song!
Great band. Lovely P bass tone from Tony Butler. The nearest I got to the band was working with his mum, June Butler, in the 80's. Lovely lady.
I saw Big Country in Belfast and they were brilliant. Stuart Adamson was terrific. For goodness sake someone should have given him a hug.
Still playing it today, 2023 ✊. Timeless ❤
Great band and wonderful musicians!
I remember, as a kid, trying play along/copy Mark's drumming...Especially the 12" singles produced by Steve Lillywhite, often with beautiful, long drum intros.
Marvelous, and Stuart is sadly missed.
Seen Big Country at Glasgow Green in 1990. Best band of the day. Still amazing to this day. Chance must have the saddest guitar instrumental when you think about Stuart Adamson. I remember sitting on a Friday watching The Tube and thought how brilliant these guys are. Bought their albums when I was a teen in the 80s and love them to this day. Well Big Man,you are sadly missed but not forgotten and your music will be me with until I see you in the Big Sky. Keep that cider chilling the now,and I'll see you soon, but not yet.
If I had wrote anything as good as this I think I'd retire straight away knowing I couldn't write anything better
He came like a hero from the factory floor

I’m not a huge BC fan, but I do like them. But this is one of the best songs ever written ! Thank you start 👍
This was always my favorite song. And my favorite band too.. I was the same age as Stuart. RIP Stuart!
Beautiful heartfelt song. These guys had talent.RIP Stuart-sadly missed.
Had the privilege of seeing them on this tour. It came through the Central Coast of California and my brother and I were first in line to see them at Cal Poly University in San Luis Obispo. We dutifully wore plaid even though the band were past that phase haha but the concert was magnfiicent. Each member of the band gave it their all and were really dialed into the audience. Thanks for posting this! One of my all-time favorite bands and rhythm sections. Res well, Stuart - your heart to connect with people with music really came through in every performance.
Brilliant buddy
Saw big country back in the day. Even got to meet Stewart Adamson and he gave me a kiss on the cheek. I was only about 12😊
What an incredible performance! Very moving actually.
Their drummer was so tasteful - one of my all-time favourites. And this song is timeless
Mark Brzezicki - he also played on the cults album 'love'. there still is a big country band with a different singer who does very well. outstanding musicians all of them

I was there amazing times
This song was always my favorite track from Big Country. I'm so proud to be a part of Gen X, the last feral generation..
Simply. 1984. They took me on my Crossing from 13 to 53. I've never forgotten. Sing it💖💖
Amazing song. Remember when it was first out. Emotion, sadness and passion, all there. RIP Stuart x
Best song they did absolutely outstanding ..loved it then love it now ..timeless
No way , Porroh Man , Lost Patrol, Harvest Home , The Storm , Close Action were all better IMO
Yeah it was a truly great tune. Still gives me goosebumps. Love it!
@@Aaron50001 deffo Porrohman. But close action is brilliant too. Fields of Fire live Hogmanay 1983 is feckin phenomenal!
not as good as Fields of Fire
Yep
After a big country gig at a Manchester university hall there was about 100 fans singing down Oxford road dancing with the police one of the best nights of my life
I am loving watching them play i wonder if anyone with me while i attempt to share great instruments and the unique sounds so unique.
1 would question the leads guitar abilities renaissance soundstage there's absolutely no one else that plays like big country lead no one else in 53 years played like him it's not nothing compared to them to this very day.
i hope my kids hear this see this version It was a real blast from the past I got it finally I've been searching for years rediscovered OMG thank you goodness gracious finally

Feels such a sad song … made to feel even more by Stuart’s rendition here
RIP mate. 😢
Gorgeous mournful melody, great song, and still sounds amazing after so many decades down the line!! R.I.P Stuart Adamson.
Nothing beats going to a concert where there's a handful of people and you can actually enjoy the music.
What a voice this great man had….just listen to this sound they all had as a band.
Four perfect session-musicians,

Saw them as a teenager alone at the Locarno in Glasgow. They saved my life as a child. I thank God for them.
Great song. Sounds so good live too. Basically a bunch of talented guys. RIP Stuart Adamson
I was there. Such a great set. Did more than was broadcast live. Stuart’s voice still gives me shivers.
Where did they record that set? Was the Tube show location in Downtown Newcastle? I have always wondered where the actual building was.
@@kenh3961 at the Tyne Tees studios just outside Newcastle near the quayside. There was a long tunnel entrance that was the “tube”. Nearest pub was The Egypt Cottage.
