Alright, two things: One, This video makes me want Avatar Callum even more so its just the ultimate “Humans can be all arcaney without ritualistic sacrifice” statement And Two, I bet that Primal Stones were made to be used to teach Humans primal sources, because it creates a familiarity with the energy, and allows for the basic teachings like sigils and draconic even without an arcanum in the students
I think you’re right about the primal stones, one of their functions would almost certainly be to give prospective human mages experience in manipulating and using the Arcanum they were attempting to connect with. Thank you for watching!
I think both Callum and Ezran are special, not because of what has gone before them, but because of what they can and will achieve! Thank you for watching!
Aaravos’ words in the first episode stated “1000 years ago, a *human mage* discovered the seventh source [of magic]... dark magic” So even from the prologue it seems that there were human mages but over the millennia the knowledge was lost and even some elves have forgotten about it.
Well the term *human mage* doesn't mean much since the term could also refer to a human using primal stones to perform magic. I think the article Theory Pop provided is more conclusive.
Callum: I'll use dark magic to save Rayla and the dragon. DM: ok roll the d20. Callum: 20. DM: you save Rayla and the dragon now becaues this is your first time useing dark magic make a con save. Callum: Ok *rolls the d20* Callum: 1. DM: you pase out.
DM: Roll for Wisdom Save against your evil clone Callum: Kay’ *rolls a d20* DM: *frantically flips through book. “Uhh, you resist the temptation and.... go on a fever dream. You awaken with a new spell slot?”
Callum Im gonna do something no humans ever done whilst still passed out. DM: now roll. Callum: 20. Dm: congratulations you just got an understanding to the sky arcainum. Callum:.... IMMA MAGE!!!!!!
I definitely agree with you. Humans aren't born with an arcanum, to be sure, but it is possible to forge these connections. It's just that they have forgotten they can over the centuries. Perhaps they were even made to forget. Considering how much humans despise elves and dragons these days, and with the prevalence of dark magic use, it might be that previous generations of Human Mages strove to remove any acknowledgement of primal magic and creatures as anything more than fuel for dark magic. Just a long shot theory. Also, I wonder if Aaravos taught primal magic to any human students. It's implied that it might just be the case.
I think that someone, or something, has tried to remove all knowledge of past human Primal mages from history, forcing any prospective human mages down the path of Dark magic. I don't know if it was the Humans that tried to remove this knowledge, the Elves (to stop any possible "pilgrimages" of humans seeking a mage to apprentice with), or maybe even Aaravos himself!
@@TheoryPop A cruel way to achieve is to use the primal mages as fuel. I mean, they have a connection to one of the primal sources, so why not thread them as magical creatures and hunt them down? This way, they would be wiped out fast because they couldn't practice openly or even tell someone without putting themself and/or their students at risk to be killed for dark magic purposes. Still doesn't answer who suggested to start this, but after 200 years nearly no one who had once known, was, knows or is a human primal mage will be alive.
I honestly can’t wait to see Callum’s mage staff. I can see it narratively. They use the shaft of his mother’s spear and then give something from each primal source. Like a moon Opal, a Sun stone, etc. then bam he is the most powerful mage of all time.
I was already aware humans used to do primal magic before the split. That's why I was confused why Lujanne said humans can't do primal magic, even if that already been show to not be completely true in Callum's personal life before that point. I wonder why she would say that. However we don't know how old Lujanne is and she could very well be younger then the split. I don't know how long elves live, but it seems they can live over a century based on what Rayla said while pretending to be human. I don't know if they are immortal and even if they are Lujanne could still be less then a millennium. Based on what she said she wasn't the first custodian of the moon nexus since they closed it off to humans. I understand Claudia saying humans can only learn dark magic. She has only learned what her father has taught her, and he seems to be pretty attached to dark magic. After a millennium humans likely could have forgotten about a time when they could use primal magic. They might have thought any mention in their history books, assuming they weren't purged, about humans using primal magic was done with a primal stone. Still I do worry why Lujanne didn't know about that possibility. The humans and elves seem to be demonizing each other and it's possible elves have spread propaganda that humans could never use primal magic and can only rely on dark magic to justify their exile. Elven wizards might be otherwise tempted to train humans again given enough time.
Lujanne is not the first Guardian of the Nexus: the MoonHenge was destroyed at the time Xadia was split, so that puts it (if we can fully trust the Aaravos' intro narration) 1000 years ago. If there have been several since then, I'd think there are at least 3, including Lujanne. If she's from a more recent Elven generation, it may be that the fact that humans once could and did learn Primal magic has been kept hidden since the split. Similar to how Viren was unable to read the texts that mentioned Aaravos, there may be a powerful spell in place that has removed all mention of human Primal mages from historical archives and texts. But that's entirely speculation on my part!
@@TheoryPop I already figured Lujanne wasn't given how she said the nexus always had a guardian since the split. She seemed to imply there have several. I don't know how long they are tasked with guarding the location. It seems like it would be a hard place for them to get to since they have to cross through human territory to do it. Maybe they fly under the full moon. For all I know they could be tasked with guarding the location for a century. I do wonder what the life span of elves are in this universe. Ralya implied it was more then a century, but no one has stated them to be immortal. In some settings elves can only live a few 100 years. Aaravos seems to have been around for a while, likely before the split, but for all I know startouched elves live longer then the other five, he is trapped in some place where time doesn't pass, or found some other way to live forever. Runaan said it was worst then death, but I don't know if he was talking about the world beyond the mirror or who was trapped inside of it. It's entirely possible they either couldn't kill Aaravos or wanted to insure he couldn't escape through death. It depends on how they view capital punishment and death. I have read a story where they use a monster called a soul eater for exclusions so they can't be reincarnated. I do wonder about the spell that burrs all the text related to Aaravos. At first I though his legend was passed down orally through certain lines to avoid that, but King Harrow was able to write down his name in the letter and it was read without issue. It being used prevent humans from reading about them learning primal magic is an interesting theory. There are a few issues with that. For one thing for that to be the case every mention of Aaravos would also have to also mentioned human primal mages or Viren might have found something he could actually read. That said I don't know how he searches for someone with just a name or how many tries it took before he just gave up and returned to question him. On the flip side I don't remember anything human primal magic in what of the passages could be read. With the pause button they can be read, they are just incomplete and not in English. I tried reading them myself shortly after watching that episode. I do wonder if they cast the spell on the pages. If they have printing presses they might have copies of those books in the East half, which they cast the spell on. Still that's just a wild guess.
You don't ask the correct question of was it Elven mages that taught humans or was it humans that taught other humans. A fish can't teach a human to swim like a fish but another human can. So, the human mages that used primal magic must have been exterminated somehow, you can't have 100% of a group choosing the same thing.
@@CMZneu Considering she is the guardian of a nexus, i'd say she has at least common to advanced knowledge. The only explanation has to be that elves simply chose to forgot what humans can do. Why? Well they condemned a species to exile because of what some did, i don't think elves are that wise in general.
Not long ago I realized that magic in this series is very binary. terrestrial=Earth, Sea, Sky Celestial=Sun, Moon, Stars I doubt I'm the first to have this realization, but I thought it was interesting none the less.
Tom Reis also a fun little note is that all of the elves we’ve seen so far have been connected to celestial primal magic where the “magic” humans aka callum and ezran have been connected to the terrestrial ones (sky and earth*ish*)
@@wolfstormwizard424 Calm down for some of us this is the first time realizing the connection. Even if it isn't there are a lot of conclusions we can draw, and they're much more abstract than your 2+2 example.
You could also argue that the sky is celestial because all the celestial sources are contained there. You could also argue that the moon is terrestrial because it is made out of stone making it arguably another source of earth magic (apologies for any headaches created)
What I enjoyed about callum's connection to the arcanum, is that he made it in less than a month! It shows that he has a huge potential as a mage, and has a long road ahead. I also want to get someone else's opinion on the idea of magic, didn't someone tell callum that to cast Aspiro he would need a storm, or at least a strong breeze; but because he had the primal stone he had a storm at his fingertips? If a strong breeze is required, how did callum cast Aspiro the second time? (Don't want to spoil the circumstances). I feel that Callum's connection is stonger than a normal arcanum, due to his understanding that the world around him is a primal stone in and of itself. Personally, I'd be interested in seeing an actual sky mage's capabilities, because callum seems to be able to perform without the "strong breeze" requirement.
I think it's amazing how he managed to connect with the Arcanum without an experienced Sky mage to help him! I think it was Rayla, back in season 1, who was explaining the Primal sources of magic to Callum, and made the comment about "a strong breeze." It wasn't about Aspiro specifically, but about Sky magic in general. Now, I think that would apply to the more powerful spells, such as Fulminis, but Aspiro uses the very breath within your body: that is the 'Sky' source it needs to power the spell. I think if Callum attempted the lightning spell without a storm or strong breeze, the effect will be much weaker than when the group battled the giant Worm on the Caldera.
Theory Pop personally, i think the implication was that a human that knew the words and sigils, but didn't have a connection to the sky arcanum, could still cast those spells. They would just need a storm to do so, as they can't draw on any other connection.
i think its weird how rayla says that you cant do sky magic without a strong breeze. we know that even if you know the arcanum, sun magic can only be done during the day, and moon magic can only be done at night (unless you have some sort of artifact like a primal stone) because in the very first episode, runaan needed to use a moon opal to do the mystica arborea spell, even though hes a moonshadow elf, since it was day. i dont get how the same rule could apply to sky magic, since the sky is always there, and we see callum do sky magic in seasons 2+3 without it being weaker.
Callum is using a Primal Stone though, he said it after he first awakened. The whole world is a Primal Stone, and he takes in tbe energy of one whenever he breathes
A thought occurs, there's this idea that the humans lack of innate connection to a primal source means their capacity for magic is limited, but I disagree. It must be possible to connect to or harness power from more than one primal source, for a human this means going through the process of actively trying to understand another type of magic; but elves never had to learn how to connect their in-born magic. It's a bit like how gifted students tend to struggle at higher levels because because there's a level of effort that they hadn't needed to learn at an earlier age; Lujane for example would probably have way more trouble learning to connect to another arcanum than Callum (or even a less prodigious human mage,) because she hasn't had to go through that deep knowledge or introspection to understand her in-born magical connection.
This is an idea I've considered, and one that I think could be the reality in the world of The Dragon Prince. Humans are in a unique position, being the only intelligent race (that we've seen so far) that does not have this innate connection to a Primal source. They must start from scratch to understand the source, immerse themselves in it, before being able to use magic. And as you've pointed out, Elves already have that connection to a single source born into them, so they don't have to put in that same effort to connect with it. They must still learn to effectively harness that power, sure, but that initial connection doesn't require the same effort as a human must exert, and so the idea of "learning" to connect to a Primal source in the first place must seem an alien concept to them!
well it wouldn't really be like avatar... as it has already been done by the elves.. avvaros knows all arcanums and dark magic he mastered everything... however callum would most likely be the first HUMAN to do so as for a human even learning 1 arcanum is incredibly difficult.
I think that maybe he could learn the other Primal sources. He'll always have this affinity for Sky, since it's the magical source that introduced him to the world of being a mage, and his personality lines up well with the description for the Sky Arcanum on the Dragon Prince website, but he certainly might have the opportunity to connect in some way with the other sources.
0valeyes it seems to me that humans are the most likely to learn all magic. The magical races are born with connection to an arcanum so they never bother learning a new one, while humans have to learn it the hard way and am guessing the hard way tends to become easier over time. However I think calum is exceptionally talented as it takes humans a really long time to learn one arcanum so ofc they were mistreated by the elves and the rest of the magical folks
@@ghadaeldabah4490 While I do agree he's talented I think he learned the magic easier thanks to the cube which was created by Avvaros and is refereed to as a key. It could be that at one point Avvaros was good and created the cube to help humans more easily learn primal magic but then something happened causing him to turn evil and teaching humans dark magic.
Yeah but he's most likely a half-breed elf or some other species as Harrow seemed to have the same abilities as him. That's why people focus on Callum who earned his powers instead of naturally having them.
I hope he isn't the only one in the show. This is just my hope, but i hope Claudia figures out the star arcanum after learning from Ezran, what Callum managed to pull off. Combine that with Viren's descent to villiany, she may hit the brakes like that is waaay to far even for her, especially if it is revealed about Viren's attack on other humans, and TDP affinity for dark and serious storytelling i guess Claudia's mother is going to be killed by one of the shadows, being the final nail in the coffin. However i doubt that she would learn it from Aaravos.
I think Claudia is quite invested in Dark magic at this point, however I don't think she has the same ruthless attitude as her father when it comes to using magic that can inflict harm on other people (and she doesn't really consider Elves "other people" right now!). She may come to realise the dangers, harm, and price that Dark Magic extracts from the wielder and those around them, especially if Viren's Shadow Elves harm or kill someone in the other kingdoms.
@@TheoryPop Yeah, I think Claudia's path is with dark magic. It was made pretty clear that she had crossed a line when she healed Soren and her hair turned white.
@@wasi6798 She did it out of love for her brother. I think it'll bite her later, but for now she's not evil. She did nothing more than she already did. She killed many animals before to power her magic.
@@vukkulvar9769 in storytelling, a character often goes through a physical change when something big happens to them. Like in Spider-Man 3, Peter changed his wardrobe after he went emo. Same thing happened to Claudia. She's probably going to keep using her power, and she doesn't show any signs of veering away from that
Too bad season 3 pretty much directly debunks this theory. The first dark magic user explicitly states that before dark magic humans starved and died because they had no magic to begin with, and that dark magic was evening the playing field. On another point I really want the writers to actually explain why dark magic is so bad, no seriously. If you kill and eat a deer to feed you and your family, nobody in either country would bat an eye, but if you kill that same deer to permanently return your brother's ability to walk suddenly you have committed an atrocity. Like I could get it if dark magic had significant personality changes, but as it stands right now it is in the middle ground of being nebulously "super evil" but at the same time not that bad logically.
I had a theory that Claudia could become a Moon mage! I was rewatching the episode for the third time 😅 and Claudia had a magical swirl around her whenever he showed her he magical ruins. And she reminds me of Lujane
Oh WHAT!? Thanks for bringing up that interview bcuz this the first time I'm hearing about it. This definitely helped your theory to be waaayyyy stronger! Well FRICKIN DONE! WELL DONE!👏🏿👏🏿🌼
There's always some interesting show and lore-related stuff that comes up in the interviews, so I try my best to keep an eye out for them for any supporting evidence! Glad you enjoyed the theory, thanks for watching!
I didn’t realize the creators confirmed that humans can do primal magic! My own head canon was just that humans have always been able to do primal magic, just with great difficulty and a need to connect with a primal source, and their introduction to dark magic was a willful attempt at making sure humans forgot their ability to do primal magic entirely. Side note: I’ve watched a few of your videos lately and they’re spot on, just subbed :)
I'm not sure just how canon that interview is, but it certainly got me thinking about magic practitioners in Xadia's past! I'd agree that humans have the ability to do primal magic, it's something that needs a lot of work and dedication to achieve. And thank you so much for subscribing!
I reckon it has to do with that toy they found in season 1. At first it seemed like it would only sense the arcanums in the respective objects/beings however what if it was more than that. What if its a tool that was passed down through the years from mages of old that used it to train apprentices so that they would learn how to sense the elements. The reason it was dark magic on the box during his self reflecting was because human nature by default can be dark or at least have an evil side. Him having come to terms with all thats happened to him was what cleared the hurdle of him being human. By doing so, the box let him sense the other elements in the world. Im sure he has the potential to become the mesiah/avatar of the world due to his recent enlightenment however i doubt itll happen straight away during the next few seasons unless theres a time skip.
It's now known to be The Key of Aaravos, and it "unlocks something of power in Xadia". My theory is that it unlocks Aaravos' mirror, but only time will tell....
If Callum has the ability to connect to all 6 arcanums, it could be that Aaravos would teach him how to do it at some point (After being freed from the mirror and doesn't turn out as a villain). In ATLA, Aang represents the balance between the elements. What if Callum is also meant to bring some kind of balance to the human species, since they lost their connection to nature. Also I think that Azran's ability to talk to animals is maybe a sign of magic.
I would like to see the following theories explored: 1. How Viren or Aaravos are going to get the key from Callum when he is on the safe side of the Breach(ironically)? 2. How will the elves and dragons react to Callum and what he is capable? 3. Will Aaravos try to sway Callum as he sees him as more worthy host than Viren? 4. Rayla's feelings towards Callum as we go foward 5. What Ezran will face when he returns and becomes the next king?
I think that the key of Aaravos did something to Callum that helped him understand his true self. In the dream sequence Callum sees himself but the other Callum talks with a deep and slow voice and wears a cape which kinda resembles Aaravos.
(This is a theory of mine) I think that the cube that Callum has IS part of the reason he was able to connect to a primal source, "The key of Aaravos" was shown a lot while Callum was having hallucinations on 5:46 you can see his evil self showing him the cube and as his step-father wrote in the letter the cube was called "the key of Aaravos" we can assume it was made by Aaravos. So this means he might have found a easer way for humans to connect to a primal source and enchanted the cube.
Could be! The cube may act as an aid to establishing that first connection. Those humans that can’t, or choose the easy way, are enticed by Dark Magic. But Callum rejected that, so maybe the cube helped him find what he was missing with the sky arcanum.
I think it’s a journey that will take more than one season to cover. I do believe he’ll become more proficient, and perhaps learn another spell of two, but to truly master the Sky Arcanum may take a bit longer. Thanks for watching!
@@dasher3464 more than likely nobody has tried.... even learning 1 arcanum is difficult for humans and normally take years... and most elves are happy sticking to their arcanum as it is comfortable for them... the only known elf to learn more than 1 arcanum is aravos.
That's a good question, and I don't really know. When Aaravos was casting spells through Viren, I think we saw that they all utilised a single source of magic per spell. Now, it's probably very difficult (if anyone has even attempted it!) to channel 2 Arcanums at once. Now, if you were to use 2 Primal stones with different sources.... well, you're not drawing the power from within yourself, so that may be a way to do it!
i have a bit of ia side theory that elves intentionally mislead human abou them not being able to learn mangic because they could potentially lear multiple forms of magic making them far more dangerous
I see it that way as well. Elves had always dealt with humans from a position of superiority, considering humans to be the "lesser" species. They have no reason to see this status quo changed.
Quick question, do you think light magic exists in Dragon Prince? If yes, how do you think it relates to the magic we've seen? My theory is that it might be unlocked by using all the other forms of primal magic.
Dark magic isn’t just corrupting because it’s a short cut, it’s also because it can do things that upset the natural balance. Claudia was able to heal her brother from an injury that had been diagnosed as incurable, and it cost the life of a deer as well as a cost to herself that manifested as a white stripe in her hair. Viren relies on dark magic because he feels he can defeat the odds and do the impossible, with no thoughts as to the price he’s paying. The more someone taps into dark magic the more they feel above the six arcanum instead of part of it. Callum’s reaction came not only from his first time using dark magic, but because he was on the verge of epiphany regarding the nature of the sky arcanum and his part in it. It strengthened the internal battle within him and when he rejected the darkness he came out with the ability to channel the sky arcanum without the aid of a primal stone. He was hosting two opposing concepts and had to choose one or the other through how he responded to what he fever dream was presenting to him.
Dark magic always comes at a cost. I think this is something Claudia will come to realise after healing Soren, but whether or not this will alter her perception of the practice is difficult to answer. Good insight into Callum's reaction to Dark magic, it's very much the opposite to his morals.
Theory Pop It also speaks to the fundamental natures of the characters and the decisions they make. The protagonists are willing to travel across Xadia to restore peace, and face the trials in doing so. Callum, Ezren and Rayla know what it is to give up something and have the strength to do what’s right. Rayla carries on knowing her inability to kill Ezren is costing her use of her hand. Callum releases the storm in his primal stone to save Zym. Ezren trusts Callum and Rayla to make the rest of the journey without him, knowing he needs to step up and take his place as king after learning about the death of his father. For Rayla and Callum the sacrifice paid off, and they gained something more valuable than what they had to let go of in the first place. Viren and Claudia are more about taking, allowing others to make sacrifices in their name without actually giving up something important to them. Viren uses trickery and deceit to meet his goals and this ultimately fails and he falls victim to Aravos and his unknown agenda. Claudia will be the one to watch for sure, as she’s not completely lost to the dark side like her father and still has a shot at redemption.
There are plenty of good examples of the elves' traditional magic coming at a cost as well, ex. the tightening bands forcing the hands of the assassins or the fact that the main power we are shown of the moonshadow elves is just that they can use moon magic and become more powerful (in a destructive, combative way) during a full moon.
This is such an intresting theory, and definitely enlightening. It's great that the theory if humans could do primal magic a long time ago has actually been confirmed. I really hope that in season 3, Callum can meet a Skywing elf mage in Xadia that can take him in as an apprentice. I'm not sure how that scenario would work out, but since Callum can do primal magic without a primal stone I assume that the elf would be impressed and might try to hide Callum from the other more skeptical elves. We got a human Rayla in the human kingdoms, perhaps we will get an elf Callum in Xadia? Well, only time will tell. Keep up the good work!
I hope we at least get to meet some of the other Elven races in Season 3, either Skywing or Earthblood. Callum would definitely benefit from learning more about the Sky Arcanum from a Sky mage! Thanks for watching.
What Callum represents fits perfectly with what Harrow said in his letter, that Callum and Ezren shouldn’t do what they do because it’s asked of them, but because it’s right regardless of their predetermined path. Together they made the choice to return the dragon egg and in doing so befriended someone from a race they were taught to fear and desire to be dead. Callum fought against the odds and his own insecurities to understand the sky arcanum, something no one expected him to do.
Ok I see a lot of people wanting Callum to master and understand all 6 of the arcanum and then fight Aavaros in a big battle. I disagree first of all we need to be realistic it took we are 3 seasons in and Callum only knows 3 sky spells and they are expecting 7 seasons (and that is unless the show starts to go downhill and get cancelled early) now assuming they are gonna keep 9 episodes thats only 36 episodes left with 20 minute maybe an extra 10 here and there is not enough time for this it will be rushed and not enjoyable i say Callum learns sky magic to completion fund a mentor someone to guide him and meet other mages there are many things they can do with this show if they fall down the avatar route it will be their downfall unless they can get atleast 15 or 16 episodes a season which means this show needs to get some serious acknowledgement like asap and get the money in even then its unlikely. This could be a great show it just needs to find its story dont go after avatar or any other show take inspiration of course but find your own means to this end have aavaros find an arc or give us history that shows hes not evil only a servant that kind of thing what happens in season 4 will probably set up the end of the series the creators need to be smart with what they can achieve in that time if they set something up they can't achieve it qill ruin this show.
I'd like to see Aaravos being stopped by an alliance of elf Primal mages, humans who Calumn has helped learn to connect with the Primal Arcanums, and the Arch Dragons, all led by Zym.
How could you! You've made me that much more hyped for season 3; I can't wait for my child (Callum) to learn more spells and master his arcanum. I'm sure that will lead to some wonderfyl story opportunities and I generally think it will develop into a really interesting arc for him, perhaps as a struggle to let go of Ezran ("letting go" is usually a caveat of wind abilities) blocks him from progressing. what are your thoughts?
I apologise for increasing the hype level for season 3! I think there’s definitely some great opportunities to see Callum grow into his role as a mage and really learn how to utilise, and respect, the power he can now wield.
I have the theory that in the past humans could do primal magic like other creatures, but as some kind of punishment, perhaps for misusing this power, the magical creatures sealed or made humans forget the ability to do primal magic, as a consequence humans seek other methods to do magic. Pdst: sorry if my english is dumb, english is not my mother tongue and I still learning :). I haven't seen the video yet, so I don't know if you talk about this or not.
Could splitting Xadia in two be for keeping the humans down? In the human side magical creatures are rare, there are famines and until recently was best by war. The practice of magic would be nearly impossible, making almost impossible for humans to improve their lot in life. If humans discovered science would the elves be up in arms again?
the split was likely just to separate the humans from the elves and magical races, but it's possible that the western part of the continent was not as habitable as the eastern lands, so there were already fewer people living there before the split. If humans discovered science, the Elves would have cause to be worried!
Oh, and do not forget about one of the most difficult spells to master, I mean "Manus. Pluma. Volantis." Even Ibis said, just a few Skywing Elves are able to learn how to create Mage Wings. And Callum could perform this spell, whitout any training, just after he realised, he truly loves Rayla... I guess Ibis will be Callum's teacher in a Sky magic in the fourth season.
Possibly, but keep in mind there's been a thousand years or enmity between the Humans and the Elves and Dragons in Xadia! They'll have a lot of prejudice to move past to agree to teach a human, I imagine. I think this may be one of the plot-lines for season 3, Callum trying to find a willing teacher so he can learn more about the Arcanum.
I believe that Aaravos realized that humans could learn how to connect with a Primal Arcanums, began teaching them, and used the insights he gained to create the Key of Aaravos. When he learned what he wanted to know, he abandoned them and, without a mentor, they strayed into dark magic.
Personally I think Callum is the first to innovate the way humans understand magic. After all we don't know how far Human Primal Mages went into researching ways to make it easier to connect to an Arcanum. Especially if the short cut that is Dark Magic halted any further research into understanding the connection a Mage has with a Primal Source. If you pay attention to what Callum says when he woke up before casting a spell you can see where I am getting at. I hope that using this same realization Callum either gains a connection with the other Primal Sources, which would help validate his claims, or teach other humans how they could connect with an Arcanum.
Theory: while humans can learn arcanum, proximity to naturally magical creatures such as elves is somehow important, which is why human mages were unable to propagate their practices after they were banished from Xadia. Follow up theory: there are other wizards in the Five Kingdoms, they are merely reliant upon Primal Stones. Callum will study Sky magic under one of them. Third and final theory: a sufficiently experienced mage, even without an arcanum, may draw upon magic under certain circumstances, when the Source’s power is at its peak. A Sky Primal Stone is almost literally a storm in a bottle, except the power is made more accessible by the process that captures it. Extra surprise bonus theory: normally mages may have only one arcanum, which is why the idea of gaining an arcanum you’re not born with is never discussed. “Normally” in that Aaravaros found a loophole and now has all six sources. It’s not like he has a Primal Stone, but he did somehow channel that fire spell through Viren, and as a Star elf he logically shouldn’t have the Sun arcanum, so unless he’s either of mixed blood or a freak of nature(neither of which I’m ruling out) He must have gained it somehow.
So I've had this thought in my head for a while now and I want to talk about it, So the guy at the beginning of the series (when we learned about dark magic for the first time), his staff (or whatever it is) kinda looks like viren's staff (when its extended), so I want to know if it means something or if it's just a coincidence.
My theory is humans have primal energy within them, but like unlit fire kindling, all u need is a spark to ignite the fire. In the case of callum, dark magic was that spark that allowed the primal source too connect to him, and like you speculate in the video there are possibly other means to do the same if one is willing to put in the work. Mybe even using primal stones as a means for humans to get familure with there arcanum.
@@TheoryPop I know right. It would be a great sub plot in the possible time skip in the next season. Imagine adult callum trying to prevent humans from becoming dark mages, by showing them that it's possible to connect to the primal source through other means. Wouldn't be to surprised to see verin, Claudia, and averros mybe having a kinda clan or small nation of ever growing human, and dark mages who refuse to accept peace with the elves, and dragons, adding to there ever growing threat of war on any who disagree with them.
so the division/separation of elves and humans only encouraged the use of dark magic among humans and any knowledge of a time when humans and elves coexisted peacefully was lost. What was the Dragon King's plan when he divided the continent it seems both elves and humans lost a lot of knowledge and history since. It also seems very suspicious that elves are so long lived but have lost all knowledge of human primal mages.
I think there's a lot more the the splitting of the continent than we're being told. Sites important to the Elven races were lost (at least one that we know of, the Moon Nexus), and assuming that Elves and Humans were spread across the continent, and not just concentrated to the Eastern half, that means everyone basically packed up and moved. We're also being asked to assume that only the Eastern half of the continent was considered the "magical lands of Xadia," but we know there are magical creatures to the West as well, like the giant fish from season 1 that made the Key glow. There's plenty of questions over what the split was meant to really achieve, and how that impacted humans and Elves. We're also not sure on exactly how long Elves live: Aaravos is at least 1000, but we don't know if that's normal among all Elves, or just the Startouch Elves, or just Aaravos, or if it's because he'd in the mirror. Do regular Elves live to 150 years? 200? 300? I don't know if this has been officially revealed yet (or if it has, I've missed it!) but there's likely been a few generations of Elves, so again the knowldge could have been lost, but not as quickly as with the Humans.
@@TheoryPop Now I'm wondering if all the elves picked up and left. Not everyone would have been happy to leave their home. Are their still elf communities in the western half of the continent? Also its been implied that we will see half elves, how were they affected by the split given their mixed heritage? What did the Dragon King do with the half elves and those who didn't agree with the division of the continent? It seems like only one narrative of past events is being told and that is very suspicious
It’s one of the best parts of the show, in my opinion! There’s all this “knowledge” that’s built over the centuries, but a lot of it is based on prejudiced assumptions that are inaccurate. We’ve seen characters confront these “false facts” and change their understanding of races, history, and magic. It’s something I’d like to see explored further in future seasons.
My theory is this. While humans are not naturally attuned to any arcanum, they are not restricted to using only one arcanum. Even though moonshadow elves are born with the ability to use moon magic, they can ONLY use moon magic. Callum has single handedly achieved something that would take most humans a lifetime, and thats with a teacher and other aids. If Callum can learn to connect with and utilize every arcanum, he could be the only one who will be able to match Aravos (who looks like hes going to end up being the "big bad" of the series. And possibly the creator of dark magic)
This could be analogous to the "Nature vs Nurture" argument. The Elves have the Arcanum born within them, which influences their inherent nature, where humans don't have this, so they way they are raised and taught can enable them to connect with an appropriate Arcanum.
I’d love to see Zym be Callum’s teacher. He is a sky dragon after all and maybe sky magic just comes naturally to him that he doesn’t need to be taught spells and just does them like a boss, passing them on to Callum in the process.
I think Zym himself will need to learn about being a dragon. To an extent, there may be some instinctual knowledge, but whether that would be useful to Callum's development as a mage is yet to be seen. Perhaps just by observing how Zym behaves, and gradually learns to harness his Sky Arcanum, Callum may gain new insights into the nature of the Arcanum?
Just a point - 6:21 Or he could find a dragon with such a connection (just a guess) And I think the point is that they need to make a connection the elves and dragons are born with it but Callum proves humans can make such a connection. I know you said that but the implications are funny if you think of it. To connect to the Arcamium then you have to turn your back on dark magic (we saw that). So by kicking out the humans, the Elves and dragons set up a situation where Humans will get stronger and more capable of only one thing - dark magic. Dark magic uses magic creatures like elves by killing them. But if they had me embraced humans that took on elemental magic and even encouraged those links, they would reduce the number of humans out to use them as magic batteries 🔋 Also, this would reduce dark magic users by that same number. In short, they could have all but made the source of the conflict obsolete at it’s core. If the writers consider this as the way things in this world then the writers are left with a question - why did the elves and dragons not see the solution themselves to the problem and what did the writers come up with to make sure they didn’t . I don’t feel “ the arrogance of elves” works as it is a common it at this point weak trope to use here. Though Dragons being a bit reptile 🦎 brained and may go with the most direct solution; why would the elves. Unless the horns on the elves head link them to dragons and make them that reptile brain they have to realize the on going risk and simple solution.
Entirely possible he could find a dragon to teach him, and I think that would make for an interesting part of the story, I just think an Elven teacher is more likely at the moment. I think rejecting Dark magic helped Callum connect with the Arcanum, but the human mages that existed before the discovery of Dark magic wouldn’t have had that choice to make. If anything, that may have made it harder to connect with an Arcanum! Thanks for watching!
Theory Pop No sweat for the watch it was fun By the way all are pretty unlikely- Zim. His dragon 🐉 mom and elves 🧝♀️. Lots of choices. Not that any are likely Zim (hatchling), his mom (likely will want to kill the child of the guy they blame for killing the dragon king) and elves (well they all seem to be human haters with one exception). And the book in Dragon tongue would be hard for Callum to read since the only words he knows come from Rayla or Claudia. (Unlike Claudia’s book likely written in a tongue both share). But hey it will be good to see how they do it.
That's what I like about this lore Callum became the first human mage in probably centuries to wield any magic without a primal source and without a teacher. He's basically jumping start human evolution and it's potential at a faster rate with this revelation. I'm sure Aaravos would love to sway Callum to his side whenever we find out what his role is in the series maybe he might a Madara Uchiha type as Madara was not truly evil maybe Aaravos wants to unite the Elf and Human worlds but his methods are not best for everyone and will cause more harm than good.
Hm, I've been wondering and this might be a stupid question. Is by the chance Callum real father ( who is unknown at his moment) maybe an elf or something similar? (i personally doubt it) but I find it interesting that Callum mother was very understandable with magical creatures. But it does make me wonder how Ezran ( who can understand animals) and Callum (who is connected to primal magic got that from). I would say that it kinda puts their mother in an unknown position since Callum's real father isn't king Harrow but they might get something from their mom. It's really interesting and relaxing cartoon to watch. I really waited for something similar to the avatar for many years. Dark magic is indeed easy way out and probably the primal magic in human is as well a rare thing to have.
The idea that Callum is half-elf is one I've seen around a few times, but I don't personally believe it just yet. If Callum turned out to be a half-elf, it would damage the themes and message of the show. It goes from "humans and elves can put aside their difference for the common good, and even find friendship with each other" to "hey, this human is part elf, so he's not all bad". It kind of takes away the impact of a full-blooded human and a full-blooded elf being the ones to start the healing process. If more concrete evidence comes to light that Callum is half-elf, then I'll re-examine that, but right now I'm of the opinion Callum is fully human. Having said that, I'm interested to learn more about Callum's biological father!
@@TheoryPop i agree with you in honesty. I would just assume that maybe just maybe there is somthing with ther mom because both brothers can use their powers but it does make me wonder. If by any chance Callum actully is a half-elf in which i do agree that drops some quality of this show and him being " he can do it because he is special". I would find it interesting if they put some spice in it if they decide that he is "half-elf". Thanks for videos tho fam. They are really good
I love your theory my man, but I personally think that to have been able to connect to the arcanum, I think you needed to do some...... stuff with a mage.
I have a question ok so if calum can use primel magic without a primel stons is calum half elf or half dragon because title dragon prince could calums father be a dragon in the disguise of a human or could he be a half elf I would lean towards dragon but the elf makes more sense
I've seen a lot of people suggest Callum has some sort of Elven or Draconic ancestry, but I prefer to think he is 100% human. A core message of the show is how the act of a human returning the egg would be the path forward to peace, as well as how Elves and humans can get along fine. If he ends up being half elf, it detracts from that message.
Guys one of the producers/ creators said that callum is multiracial and we don't know who his father and if he was an elf or was the son of an elf. We do know that there is some elves in the human side do to the primal sources(if I called it the wrong name just know its the places that have strong magical ties). There is also the possibility that some elves might even enter the humans side to explore(curiosity, thrill seeking, etc.). they say humans cant do magic but elves can do so from birth. Callum being a part elf would explain why he can connect to the sky arcanum but did not have it at the beginning. Why Ezra was born with his power is anyone's guess. As for dark magic I think dark magic revolves around life force. I think this as Claudia used her magic with the deer despite it not being a magical creature or seeming to use any magic ingredients. After word it made some of her hair white. I think using dark magic without their being some magical ingredient in the mix results in some of the users life force being lost in exchange and in excessive use of that kind of magic could cause premature aging(I look to the dark magic user in the opening, he could either be as old as he looks or got hit by the premature aging) brought on by the lose of said life force. The means to acquire magical being is probable expensive as they either need to find them in the humans side which they are rare or risk going to xiadia to get the ingredients risking their lives either by the magical creatures or the elves. In that line of thinking not everyone is the right hand man of a king and has a lot of resources and contacts to get the ingredient. I can see there being some users of dark magic, do to there in inability to obtain ingredients, try to first solve their problem through other means such as science or medicine and reserve dark magic for a last resort. Maybe there lives are on the line or someone is dying of a disease and is beyond the saving of science and medicine(this is pretty much medieval times) and they resort to dark magic in desperation and willingly lose some of their life force in exchange. Do to this when magic ingredients are not available I see it as a magic that requires the person to take risks that could kill them early on, I look to Callum's near death experience, and make require them to sacrifice, not only with the creature or plant they are using but also in the form of there own life force. While the characters say Dark magic is easy they show its the opposite instead. For primal magic they show that you need to have an arcanum to use magic then you just need the knowledge and the power to do it, for instance a gust of wind. For dark magic if your not careful you could die and if you don't use a magic being as a sacrifice you use your own life force to make up the difference. I think those who are smart will try to lessen the cost on their life by using their knowledge of medicine and/or science to be more efficient in the usage of dark magic. Example if someone is sick they might use their knowledge to more directly target the problem or if they are unable to treat the problem they can treat the symptom, I am referring to problems such as diseases and if they delay it enough the body could create antibodies to fight off the disease. I think you can also imagine some other situations where this applies. I see this playing out in the future with Sorian and Claudia. The magic only seemed to by pass the wound that paralyzed him not heal him, I say this as he still was hurt from his wounds he got from the dragon. I think eventually the spell will begin unravel and he will slowly overtime lose feeling and motor functions. When she tries other methods or the same method she used to help Sorian she will again lose some life force and display the symptom of it in the form of the whitening hair. Sorian will begin to understand what is going on and try to get her to stop while coming to terms with the fact that he will slowly become paralyzed. I see this going two ways either eventually she will come to terms that it is inevitable and honor his wishes or he will leave her and try to get back home while losing his ability to walk. I don't think Humans ever had the ability to use dark magic as the texts that Verian tried to look when deciphered seemed to hint at the fact that they couldn't and Avaados gave them dark magic to help them, you can look this up. The lines at the opening told that humans discovered dark magic but the texts say That it was a gift from Avaados, I think he is an unreliable narrator. This is me speculating and giving my two sense, you are free to judge and give your opinion.
i also saw this theory where ezran was born with the connection to the earth arcana, and thats why he speaks with animals, so i think it has something to do with there mother either being part elf, or her raising them in a way that would make unlocking their arcana easily
its possible that Raila might teach Callum a few more words in draconic that relate to the sky, and the runes that coralate if Callum asks her. They are friends and thus would share knowledge more often than hide it, however Raila most likely doesn't know all the words that are spells for sky magic, as she is a moon elf, and yes i'm brushing all the clans under one over arking brush as each clan seems to specialize in one aspect of their race's primal arcanim. being a moon elf and the fact Callum connected to the sky arcanum she wouldn't be that much help but would still help a little bit. Like how Katara, though not a master herself, taught Aung in the Avatar the last Air bender water bending, even if its just the basics that would be common place among all water benders, but with this case its basic spells Raila would have seen sky elves use often enough to know that's a spell. Please forgive my spelling.
From the current lore, it's very probable that there were human primal mages before the exile, but due to humans not having a natural connection to magic, it must've been very difficult for humans to become mages, and they had to spend years if not decades training to achieve a connection, which is what elves and dragons are naturally born with. With this handicap, it's highly likely that the number of human primal mages had always been very small, to the point that no one remembers them in the present day in the story.
I suspect you're right. Humans would have had to work much harder to connect with an Arcanum than the elves, so a shortcut would be incredibly tempting.
@@TheoryPop Sure, especially with elves and dragons treating humans as the "lesser" species, dark magic was effectively the only way for humans to change the status quo.
I wonder if the "value" of a creature in Xadia is based on either the strength of their magic, or their connection to an Arcanum. Dragons appear to be closely tied to their Primal source, and have powerful magic, so they're at the top, followed by elves, and then humans at the bottom as they don't have that natural connection. Maybe that's what Sol Regem meant by "lesser beings"?
@@TheoryPop That's how I viewed it: a creature or species' relevance in the magical world is based on their levels of magic. Otherwise, the way elves and dragons reacted to humans for using dark magic doesn't make sense. Dark magic is not inherently evil or corrupting, the way practitioners hunt magical creatures and harvest all their parts isn't that different from the way hunters hunt game animals and harvest the entire animal. So why would dragons and elves react by exiling the entire human species to live and die on some of the worst lands on the continent over it? It's because they saw the creatures that humans hunt to be closer to them than the human will ever be. An analogy would be there's a stray dog in your neighborhood; It's been there for years, but everyone tolerates it. But all of the sudden, it started to attack residents' pets and growl at the children. Now this stray has to go, willing or not.
I think humans are the blank template and instinctively can tap with all the other sources but have not yet been recognized because of yeah. Little to zero opportunity to try. Dark magic must have been just because of frustrated mage aspirants instead of being properly schooled got angry and found that darker alternative.
Humans certainly aren't being given the opportunity to try Primal magic. It's possible that, even before the split of the continent, only a very small number of humans were allowed to apprentice to an Elven mage. Dark magic was an alternative route humans could take that didn't rely on the restrictive practices of the Elven races.
@@TheoryPop my theory is that there were humans who discovered their primal affinity but we're killed by the elves to ensure they maintained an advantage
I feel like the end will be a battle between Callum being a master of sky magic and aaravos basically being the avatar, the reverse of what happened on avatar where aang had all the elements and Ozai had much stronger fire magic Callum may get to learn more than just sky magic but I feel it might seem rushed since there will likely be 6 seasons so I doubt he will learn 5 elements in 4, and unlike aang Callum didn't understand air magic from season one (anyone else notice this connection of the protags using air) and aang had already mastered the element of air, meanwhile Callum has nearly no training with just a single element at the end of the second season
Callum became connected to the sky arcanum, right? Well, what was he carrying throughout season 1? A primal stone for SKY magic. What if he starts using different primal stones for different types of magic, and thats how he gets new powers? I don't know, it just seems odd that the first type of magic he's able to use without a primal stone happens to be the same type of magic as the primal stone he carried in his back pocket.
I wonder if a better alternative to dark magic is possible? If dark magic is what happens when you forcefully take energy from another creature could it be possible to perform this but in a manner less ... selfish? Instead of ripping out of another creature maybe you can .. I don’t know benevolently ask in someway
That raises the question of whether Dark Magic is 'dark' because of the act of forcibly taking that energy, or is it inherent to that type of magic? So if a creature were to 'offer' up a portion of its energy, would it no longer be Dark Magic, but instead be more akin to using a weaker version of a Primal Stone?
Theory Pop well maybe not weaker... depending on what creature you are drawing on and how many at once. Not to mention the potential result one might achieve by mixing 2 different sources together.
He’s used Aspiro (breath/wind spell), Fulminis (lightning) and Manus Pluma Volantis (wings). He’s also used Historia Viventum spell, which is moon magic, but he used the moon opal for that.
As others have said I think it's Callum's destiny to master all of the arcana, not just one. I think while he's doing this that Viren is also going to learn the primal arcana, only he will be instructed by Aaravos and due to that mentoring and his head start in dark magic Viren will be the more powerful mage. It's going to come down to Callum and Viren somehow at the end in a struggle to determine the magical destiny for humanity and how it plays out in relation to the other races of Xadia.
I think it depends on the human. Not all humans will have the patience, determination, or open mind required to learn to use a Primal source. But there will be others out there, like Callum, who could.
I dunno, I kinda liked the idea that humans couldn't use primal magic on their own. I was hoping Callum could discover a third option other than Primal and Dark magic. I was thinking since Zym was a storm dragon he could've been Callum's familiar and draw forth the Primal power necessary to use magic.
While the idea of humans not being able to use Primal magic is interesting, I personally prefer the idea that a human who has the right characteristics has the potential to learn. Now, I don't think all humans have the capacity to learn Primal magic: Viren, for example, is too impatient and wields Dark magic partly because of its strength and potency, whereas I feel like Callum's aspiration to being a mage is more about finding his place within the world. My reservation around Zym being a 'familiar' that would allow Callum to draw forth power to cast magic sounds like it could border dangerously close to how Dark magic currently works. Although I will say that if Zym, being a Sky dragon, was able to create small storms or gusts of wind later on, that in itself would help Callum cast more powerful spells!
probably not since all it takes to cast magic of a particular source is a understanding of how the nature of a source affects the world (even if it's super abstract) it's still information that can be given by people who know it. It's just the persons understanding of the deeper meaning of things so others would likely trip over the understanding as well :/
I think there’s more to it than “just” understanding the Arcanum. It toon Callum standing out in a storm, and going into a dark magic coma, before he truly understood it. But I agree with your overall point, of a person can gain that insight into the elemental source, they should be capable of practicing magic. Thanks for watching!
@@TheoryPop I always took it to be the storm (and a few convo's with others) gave him the knowledge and the dream while in the coma let him understand that the sky is the breath of all things in the world and everyone is under the same sky letting him have the deep understanding but up to interpretation I guess.......MAGIC :D
The understanding of primal sources seems linked to understanding a certain philosophy of the world. So if any human has an understanding of this ideology or philosophy they could have an archanum just not know how to use the magic for that archanum
I think that Callum will seek help from mages once he gets to xiadia but I think they will accept him once he shows that he already possess a connection to a arcainm. Idk just a guess
I agree that Callum may seek out another mage to learn from. There'll be definite distrust and apprehension at first, but perhaps the act of returning Zym to his mother, as well as possessing the Sky Arcanum, will earn him the right to apprentice with a mage.
I disagree with the base premise... In the very intro and you touched on this as well, its made pretty clear that humans never gained such a connection, they believed themselves to be seen as infirior to the elves while in their lands (hence the preducice) you get to see the interaction between the 1st human user of dark magic and the original dragon king in their interaction on this front.. As such I think what the creators were getting at and what you touched on is that callum isn't special being the only human capable to learn how to access the Arcanum. He's special in that he's the 1st to ever succeed, otherwise all humans wouldn't have been cast out to begin with.
I prefer the idea that human is 100% human, it makes all the work he's done to connect with the Sky Primal more impactful. But IF he had a distant elven ancestor, it may have helped with that connection.
I'm still frustrated that his ability to use magic in this way isn't treated as the big deal it is. Like...I feel like all the characters he has met since he gained the ability to naturally connect to primal magic are just "Wow, cool" even though humans being "unable" to use primal magic was what let to the biggest conflict in their world. You'd think the revelation would be just as big as the dragon prince still being alive.
@@TheoryPop Yeah, indeed. By the way, if you're undecided on your next Video, i would like many more theory videos about Magic and about Callum's Future as a mage and all that. What element next, what would it mean for him, can elements be combined, and much more. Just saying.
The Primal Stone kind of felt like a crutch to me. You can be a powerful Mage with it but you are nothing without it. This kind of makes me wonder if Callum’s magic is more powerful now that he has the Sky Arcanum. It felt like the case during is test aspero but that might just be the cinematics of the moment.
The Primal Stone, I think, was a useful entry point for Callum into the world of magic, but becoming too dependant upon it would have been dangerous in the long run. I think Callum's newfound connection to the Sky Arcanum will certainly give him the potential to cast more powerful spells: rather than using a single, localised storm, he could potentially harness the power of a typhoon or hurricane!
Alright, two things:
One, This video makes me want Avatar Callum even more so its just the ultimate “Humans can be all arcaney without ritualistic sacrifice” statement
And Two, I bet that Primal Stones were made to be used to teach Humans primal sources, because it creates a familiarity with the energy, and allows for the basic teachings like sigils and draconic even without an arcanum in the students
I think you’re right about the primal stones, one of their functions would almost certainly be to give prospective human mages experience in manipulating and using the Arcanum they were attempting to connect with. Thank you for watching!
To point one I have to add the fact that it took Callum less than 2 weeks to connect to one arcanum... Just saying only 5 to go...
I agree
@@DevMarco- on one said it would be esay

I think both Callum and Ezran are special, not because of what has gone before them, but because of what they can and will achieve! Thank you for watching!

Aaravos’ words in the first episode stated “1000 years ago, a *human mage* discovered the seventh source [of magic]... dark magic” So even from the prologue it seems that there were human mages but over the millennia the knowledge was lost and even some elves have forgotten about it.
Absolutely right. He was already a mage when he ‘discovered’ dark magic, so there is precedent for it!
Well the term *human mage* doesn't mean much since the term could also refer to a human using primal stones to perform magic. I think the article Theory Pop provided is more conclusive.
I wasn’t trying to disagree. I just brought up a point and I never said it was definite especially concerning that they were Aaravos’ words.
Anyone knows when Season 3 comes out and more importantly, how many seasons will come out? I hope it will continue for many years!
Unless the only human mages 1000 years ago were those with primal stones, who then discovered the seventh source
Lightning? I'll show you lightning! - KACHOW!
That would be cool if calem learned all of the primal magic and then him and aaravos would battle
I’d love to see Callum learn so much more about primal magic!
aaravos would definitely win that fight but it would be cool to see callum learn more arcanums

Necrotic damage can be a b**ch
Lujanne is by no means a reliable source, her personality in the show seems like she is the ditzy blond of the elf race.
@@CMZneu
Considering she is the guardian of a nexus, i'd say she has at least common to advanced knowledge. The only explanation has to be that elves simply chose to forgot what humans can do. Why? Well they condemned a species to exile because of what some did, i don't think elves are that wise in general.
Not long ago I realized that magic in this series is very binary.
terrestrial=Earth, Sea, Sky
Celestial=Sun, Moon, Stars
I doubt I'm the first to have this realization, but I thought it was interesting none the less.
Tom Reis also a fun little note is that all of the elves we’ve seen so far have been connected to celestial primal magic where the “magic” humans aka callum and ezran have been connected to the terrestrial ones (sky and earth*ish*)
we all knew to dumb dumb its like saying 2 plus 2 is 4 and you just knew it but everybody knew it was four
@@nionashborn7626 Plus Sun is giant piece of fire so it's elemental magic in fact, just like air, water and earth.
They would just need a storm to do so, as they can't draw on any other connection.
ikr555 I really want Aaravos to take an interest in him. I’ve been saying it for months: dark master subplot
i think its weird how rayla says that you cant do sky magic without a strong breeze. we know that even if you know the arcanum, sun magic can only be done during the day, and moon magic can only be done at night (unless you have some sort of artifact like a primal stone) because in the very first episode, runaan needed to use a moon opal to do the mystica arborea spell, even though hes a moonshadow elf, since it was day. i dont get how the same rule could apply to sky magic, since the sky is always there, and we see callum do sky magic in seasons 2+3 without it being weaker.
It may seem possible but my question is will Callum learn to master the other primal elements to become his world equivalent to an avatar?
well it wouldn't really be like avatar... as it has already been done by the elves.. avvaros knows all arcanums and dark magic he mastered everything...
however callum would most likely be the first HUMAN to do so as for a human even learning 1 arcanum is incredibly difficult.
This video made me realize how
incredibly proud I am
of Callum... can’t wait for season three and beyond. Great video, friend!
He’s done something amazing, and hopefully we’ll see more of his growth and development in season 3! Thanks for watching!
They all seem to forget that ezran was the only human around that has magic cuz he could talk to animals
Combine that with Viren's descent to villiany, she may hit the brakes like that is waaay to far even for her,
especially if it is revealed about Viren's attack on other humans, and TDP affinity for dark and serious storytelling
i guess Claudia's mother is going to be killed by one of the shadows, being the final nail in the coffin.

@@vukkulvar9769
She is a good person, that's what I feel...I think it's just how she was raised...
:o sounds cool!
I think the Key of Aaravos helped him get the arcanum and I think Callum will be using all 6 elements after lots of hard work and studying
More please, I love these Dragon Prince theory videos! Also you have a really good voice 😁
Thank you, there's more to come in future! And I'm sure, once we have season 3, there'll be plenty more!
Theory Pop noice, can’t wait!
I would like to see the following theories explored:
1. How Viren or Aaravos are going to get the key from Callum when he is on the safe side of the Breach(ironically)?
2. How will the elves and dragons react to Callum and what he is capable?
3. Will Aaravos try to sway Callum as he sees him as more worthy host than Viren?
4. Rayla's feelings towards Callum as we go foward
5. What Ezran will face when he returns and becomes the next king?
Just found your page and I really appreciate you man! Keep it up and all the best with the channel.
Thanks for commenting and watching, I appreciate it!
Just a question to you and everyone. Does anyone else see the parallels between this and versions of King Arthur?
I think there's comparisons that can be drawn between the stories, definitely.
Do you think Callum will master the sky arcanum in the next season ? great video by the way.
I think it’s a journey that will take more than one season to cover. I do believe he’ll become more proficient, and perhaps learn another spell of two, but to truly master the Sky Arcanum may take a bit longer. Thanks for watching!
Another question I have is are there spells that require two or more different arcanum since we have only seen Aravos use them one by one.
I come from da future, and yes... Callum can now turn into an overgrown pigeon.
i have a bit of ia side theory that elves intentionally mislead human abou them not being able to learn mangic because they could potentially lear multiple forms of magic making them far more dangerous
This makes a lot of sense!
I thought so 2
I see it that way as well. Elves had always dealt with humans from a position of superiority, considering humans to be the "lesser" species. They have no reason to see this status quo changed.
I hope in a future season callum learns Aspiro Frigis (witch is the ice aspiro) that would be so *cool*
Ha get it
That's some fine pun work right there.
Theory Pop heh thanks
I think it will be easy for him. He already has seen Viren causing this spell, so he knows the Rune and incantation.
Quick question, do you think light magic exists in Dragon Prince? If yes, how do you think it relates to the magic we've seen? My theory is that it might be unlocked by using all the other forms of primal magic.
That's a good question I had the same thought about that. There can't be a dark magic without a light right? Man I'm getting Jax and Daxter vibes.
There's sun and stars as magic source, so...
If Dark magic is "taking" the essence from magical creatures, then light magic would be "giving" creatures a magical essence...
@@TheoryPop Wait, does that mean Aaravos was performing light magic when he helped Viren battle?
Short answer: no
long answer: yes but no
Really long answer: Yes but no. In an interview with Animation Magazine, Aaron Ehasz and Justin Richmond.... (add entire video here).
Theory Pop lol
This gets better and better
1:18 you're a standart human again
*Callun:* depressive and ansious screaming**

Nailed it on the Elf Callum!
Thank you you saved my day can’t wait for season 3
Glad I could help! Hopefully we’ll get season 3 this year!
I like your Dragon Prince OC.It’s like Runaan
What Callum represents fits perfectly with what Harrow said in his letter, that Callum and Ezren shouldn’t do what they do because it’s asked of them, but because it’s right regardless of their predetermined path. Together they made the choice to return the dragon egg and in doing so befriended someone from a race they were taught to fear and desire to be dead. Callum fought against the odds and his own insecurities to understand the sky arcanum, something no one expected him to do.
In that case, it seems, Captain Villads has connected to sea primary source.
Could be. He certainly got a great sense for seamanship, considering his lack of sight.
I like the theory that every human is capable, but Callum will discover the method.
I think we could see other humans start on the path to primal magic in future seasons!
I haven't seen the video yet, so I don't know if you talk about this or not.
that is very close to what i think happened. also you write English very well, don't worry.
But Callum is the first in thousands of years, right?
Correct! It’s certainly been long enough that everyone forgot humans could use primal magic!
@@TheoryPop Did humans once wield all six arcanums but it was taken away?
Could splitting Xadia in two be for keeping the humans down? In the human side magical creatures are rare, there are famines and until recently was best by war. The practice of magic would be nearly impossible, making almost impossible for humans to improve their lot in life. If humans discovered science would the elves be up in arms again?
the split was likely just to separate the humans from the elves and magical races, but it's possible that the western part of the continent was not as habitable as the eastern lands, so there were already fewer people living there before the split. If humans discovered science, the Elves would have cause to be worried!
Season 3 he uses a new spell I forgot what it’s called but it lets him, Rayla and Ezrin breath when they can’t
Ventus Spiralis, the breathing spell! Yeah, that was a cool spell, I like that one!
Wouldn't Callum ability to connect with the sky arcanum by himself praiseworthy enough that someone willingly teach him ?
Possibly, but keep in mind there's been a thousand years or enmity between the Humans and the Elves and Dragons in Xadia! They'll have a lot of prejudice to move past to agree to teach a human, I imagine. I think this may be one of the plot-lines for season 3, Callum trying to find a willing teacher so he can learn more about the Arcanum.
It seems too, that elves, are happy and content with the arcanum they are born with and have never really tried to branch out into the others.
It’s not like he has a Primal Stone, but he did somehow channel that fire spell through Viren, and as a Star elf he logically shouldn’t have the Sun arcanum, so unless he’s either of mixed blood or a freak of nature(neither of which I’m ruling out)
He must have gained it somehow.
So I've had this thought in my head for a while now and I want to talk about it,
So the guy at the beginning of the series (when we learned about dark magic for the first time), his staff (or whatever it is) kinda looks like viren's staff (when its extended), so I want to know if it means something or if it's just a coincidence.
I’m of the opinion that it is the same staff that Viren wields, or at least has been incorporated into it
Theory Pop that makes sense
My theory is humans have primal energy within them, but like unlit fire kindling, all u need is a spark to ignite the fire. In the case of callum, dark magic was that spark that allowed the primal source too connect to him, and like you speculate in the video there are possibly other means to do the same if one is willing to put in the work. Mybe even using primal stones as a means for humans to get familure with there arcanum.
That's an interesting theory! Having a "dormant" form of the primal within them that needs some kind of trigger to activate, I quite like that!
Thats what I find fascinating in TDP theres many assumptions/prejudices, skewed historical interpretations that will have to be torn down
It’s one of the best parts of the show, in my opinion!
Hope so! Mine was more wishful thinking than an actual theory 😀. Either way I can’t wait to watch those two be sky magic buddies to whatever extent!
Just a point - 6:21
Or he could find a dragon with such a connection (just a guess)
And I think the point is that they need to make a connection the elves and dragons are born with it but Callum proves humans can make such a connection.
Theory Pop No sweat for the watch it was fun
By the way all are pretty unlikely- Zim.
You need to make a video about calling and rayla 😉
Callvatar: The Last Magebender
I think it's more to do with the way the princes were raised, but I'm hoping we'll get more revealed in season 3!
@@TheoryPop
i think her story will be furthered when they introduce erzans earth arcana
It’s nice to have read the graphic novel and watched the tv show. Means no spoilers till season 4 comes out.
its possible that Raila might teach Callum a few more words in draconic that relate to the sky, and the runes that coralate if Callum asks her.
I think Rayla could teach Callum a few Draconic words, but she likely doesn’t know any specific Sky based spells.
So do you think that Callum will find a willing teacher and work hard?
@@Panther-Strife4724 i hope so. an apprentice arc would be an interesting story element.
@@TheoryPop my theory is that there were humans who discovered their primal affinity but we're killed by the elves to ensure they maintained an advantage
Callum doing primal magic showed both sides how wrong they were
I think Callum will get a skywing elf to teach him after proving himself to the elf
Entirely possible!
i really, really hope so!
Welp you were kinda spot on.
There is already one, I mean Ibis
@@KarolWolosiewicz That's who I was talking about we didn't know his name
I feel like the end will be a battle between Callum being a master of sky magic and aaravos basically being the avatar, the reverse of what happened on avatar where aang had all the elements and Ozai had much stronger fire magic
Callum may get to learn more than just sky magic but I feel it might seem rushed since there will likely be 6 seasons so I doubt he will learn 5 elements in 4, and unlike aang Callum didn't understand air magic from season one (anyone else notice this connection of the protags using air) and aang had already mastered the element of air, meanwhile Callum has nearly no training with just a single element at the end of the second season
I'm guessing Callum's secret father was able to do this too, or maybe there's even a tiny bit of magic in their bloodline.
I don't see how any of this precludes mages just being a reference to humans using primal stones or similar devices.
Callum used 2 spelles without the primal stone the wing thing correct me if im wrong
I think Callum will forge his own path and write his own destiny. If he decides to try mastering each Arcanum, then that will be his choice to do so.
I still see humans as empty vessels with the potential to learn
That is the wonderful thing about magic, it doesn’t always have solid rules to it!
I relate to Callum if I got the ability to do magic then lost it I would be sad
Can Callum use two arcanum being human?
He was able to learn to connect with Sky, so he may be able to learn a second arcanum.
I think his dad was an elf because the king was his step dad
Most likely hes half elf
Can you do a theory on the Kirlian Frequency ? (Please)
It's on my list of shows to watch, if I have any good theories after seeing it then I'll probably make one!
@@TheoryPop it's a cool show it's like gravity falls but more messed up (it takes place in Argentina)
Not only has cal connected with it like former people like, but how long has it taken. Not a long time almost as if he is extremely talented
Mom and dad also helped teach him indirectly, that's good parenting right there
Something tell's me that Callum is going to be one powerful mage.
I think you’re right, he seems to have the talent for it
The understanding of primal sources seems linked to understanding a certain philosophy of the world. So if any human has an understanding of this ideology or philosophy they could have an archanum just not know how to use the magic for that archanum
That does seem to be the case.
I think callum has a tiny drop of sky elf blood in him and thats why he understands the sky arcainum.
It’s a big event, but it kind of fell by the wayside with the imminent war, I suppose. It’s something I want to see addressed in season 4.
Callum will need to master all the arcana so that he can open the cube and unlock the secret to defeating Aaravos.
He probably isn't but I do think that he is one of the first to lear Caelum magic thats for sure.
DAYUM SON!
(caelum is latin for sky/atmosphere)

The Primal Stone kind of felt like a crutch to me. You can be a powerful Mage with it but you are nothing without it. This kind of makes me wonder if Callum’s magic is more powerful now that he has the Sky Arcanum. It felt like the case during is test aspero but that might just be the cinematics of the moment.
The Primal Stone, I think, was a useful entry point for Callum into the world of magic, but becoming too dependant upon it would have been dangerous in the long run. I think Callum's newfound connection to the Sky Arcanum will certainly give him the potential to cast more powerful spells: rather than using a single, localised storm, he could potentially harness the power of a typhoon or hurricane!
his spell looked stronger to me once he gained the sky arcanum
I really want more characters to understand primal magic like I dunno...Claudia?
I think Callum's understanding of Primal magic will lead to other humans being able to do the same.
