I lost my mum in June this year and this is one of the things left we both enjoyed watching together. Reminded us both of mum buying them new for me. Also she thought Kevin is hilarious which he is. So thanks for those last memories Marty.

what kind of fuel was it using for its own engine? I have a suspicion it was running on Diesel, so that was the jerry can for (just to answer Marty's querry about that particular detail)

I have one of these trucks but in a much larger scale. The RAF blue/grey is BS381c-633 and car paint suppliers can make you a spray can up. I needed 30% satin gloss. My project was for a pair of British locos using this paint colour.

Love watching these makeovers, very addictive watching the process and seeing the final reveal, I'm similar vintage to you and grew up loving Matchbox cars and have since bought a few of my favourite pieces that I enjoyed as a kid, and your right, you don't realize the detail of the models. Love the humour!!

Nice video Marty. Beautiful model. You are correct about the pollution caused by manufacturing and then later disposing of electric car batteries. Once they have been produced by the millions, I hope an efficient methods are developed.

    Well... I have to say,
    NO restoration is "boring".... 😜
Each one is a challenge and the Tanker Truck is a beautiful model.
(8:01 - 8:10) That's what I like about the MBs.... That abundance of detail 🤩
I saw this three-axle truck "live" once. When I was a truckie, I once delivered a load to the RAF. There was a truck like this in the yard of this airfield. (Perfectly restored)
Somehow your model reminds me of that day 😉 (It's just as excellently restored).
    Marty,
I'm thrilled, clearly both thumbs up for this 👍🏼 👍🏼
Thank you so much for sharing 🙏🏼 (and the memories of my truckie days)
To you, Julie and all the team behind the scene have another bonza week and stay safe and sound. Keep up the good work, mate 😁
Greetings from the DCcoB at the lighthouse end of the Elbe River.

If you have an old fashioned bread knife with the rounded tip, they make a good tool for creasing card - as they thin, they are easy to run along the ruler's edge.

I have never played with the original matchbox cars but i did spend a good time playing with little cars similar to the tesla one BUT those had a weird metal body (idk which metal) and a weak plastic base. The wheels were made of plastic and axles from metal.
Those cars were significantly smaller than the tesla ones, but were darn smooth. One of the cars i had was a race car and i kid you not- it was LIGHTNING SPEED.
I always loved the "tin" cars, as you said they had that strudy feel to them.

The small 'Jerry can' (Which got its name from being a modification of a German design in WW2!) would be for diesel for the truck. The tank would carry aviation spirit ('Avgas') for planes. Diesels can't use it. Jet and Turbojet engines burn Kerosene, which the tanker may also carry. Incidentally, Avgas still contains lead additives. The original tanker was based on a Leyland Hippo 6x4 chassis.

You undersold this big time. It was in not terrible shape to start. The fact you didn't open it up tells me it didn't have 50+ years of detritus inside it. But this looked lovely from the get go and you left it in wonderful shape. Fascinating the view and opinion on a current Matchbox model. Doesn't surprise me it's disappointing. But I'm left wondering if someone 50 years from now will be restoring a 2023 Tesla Matchbox model and highlighting their 3d printing capability and decal production means.

I would have put one more drop of blue to bring it back a bit but, I can picture those side by side & see shade differences like any example. As far as boring,... not so. It is your work along with your narration backed by that wonderful music that is very nostalgic for earlier times & posts. I love the subject matter of RAF refueling truck. Love your yard & surroundings also. I got crows, ravens & blue jays around here. Restaurant Portion Cups are what you are putting paint in. What they are called here in Maine. I like the Poly Strip the best. No splotchy crap. You could just attach shelf brackets to that diorama & mount it on the wall. Very nice by the way. An odd surprise.

Hi Marty! Greetings from The Great White North.🍁🫡 The reason a refueling truck (lorry) would have jerry cans is that the truck engine uses different fuel from that in that in the refueller. The refueller would likely have a petrol or diesel engine whereas the aircraft would need avgas (high octane aviation gas) or jet fuel, which is basically kerosene. Cheers! Mike👍🍁

You did a great job in restoring this model back to looking new….
I have a theory about why this gas truck has Jerrycans on it….
The fuel it carries is aviation fuel and usually it is very high octane.
If the truck runs on gas it is likely to be regular gas for cars and trucks.

Once the caustic soda solution has cooled down to ca 40C, you can toss the wheels - and if applicable - other plastic parts in it. This works especially well, if there is paint on them. This will save you a lot of hassle with soapy water and brushes and you'll never need to mess about with brake fluid again.

Enjoyed your video. Looks like you do a lot of work with various paints and chemicals. You might want to consider using a barrier cream to prevent skin damage as you can leave yourself open to dermatitis. I'd avoid caustic soda as it can cause serious damage to your eyes and skin.
